The Cleveland Browns make a week one statement by beating the Cincinnati Bengals convincingly at home 24-3. The offense wasn't perfect but was effective running for over two hundred yards on the ground and most importantly keeping Joe Burrow and his weapons off the field. Deshaun Watson left some throws on the field but used his legs and pieced together throws to make a difference. Nick Chubb was his reliable self going for over one hundred yards. Elijah Moore showed splashes with a 19 yard run and a 33 yard reception. The Browns defense was a menace all day, Joe Burrow was frazzled and had a hard time finding receivers due to outstanding coverage from the Cleveland secondary. Myles Garrett had a game clinching sack in the fourth quarter to cap off an incredible day for Jim Schwartz in his debut. The Browns are heading to Philadelphia this week for joint practices on Monday and Tuesday and a preseason game on Thursday. Before that, they played the Commanders on Friday night in preseason game No. 2. Mary Kay Cabot, Ashley Bastock and Dan Labbe recapped the Commanders game starting with Cade York and what the Browns should do about their second-year kicker missing preseason kicks. The Cleveland Browns lost to the Washington Commanders and yes they are negatives but a lot of positives can be taken away as well. The Deshaun Watson one drive was impressive as Watson was perfect on his passes and used his legs well. We saw Elijah Moore in this Percy Harvin type role the Browns have planned for him. Dorian Thompson-Robinson continues to shine and has been flawless to this point through two preseason games. On Defense rookie safety Ronnie Hickman had a solid night registering two interceptions. The linebackers were kept clean and played well as all of Phillips, Fields, Owusu_Koramoah, and Thomas each had three solo tackles. Sadly Jacob Phillips tore his pec and is out for the season, which could be the end of his time here for the Browns.
