Do you remember the Oscars from March of 2020? Well it was right at the start of the pandemic that saw global quarantines and shutdowns. Cinematic Brotastic was affected like so many other things in 2020. WE LOST AN EPISODE!!! But hey, we found it! Hot off of a Golden Globe Win, The Brother's Brotastic felt that 1917 was a shoo-in for the Oscar win. Imagine our disappointment when it didn't. Hear why we thought this movie was sure to take home that golden statue, so many months ago.
Flash…AAAAaaaaa! It’s hard “not” to follow that word with the epic vocals of Queen every time it is uttered. This movie is far from obscure, unlike how the film’s main antagonist views our humble little planet. A rare opportunity presented itself before theaters shut down; the local arthouse theater was showing a cult classic, unseen on the big screen by the Brother’s Brotastic. For one, this was just another tally added to the countless viewings of a childhood favorite. For the other, an unseen gem who’s splendor was only known through others. How does this cult classic hold up to today’s standards? Don’t hold your breath, but listen in to our latest episode to find out.
The new year is looking Brotastic! Philip and Andrew are back from the break and start off Season 2 of Cinematic Brotastic with Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, a unique blend of animation styles that don’t clash, but rather creates a one of a kind viewing experience that has the added bonus of being family friendly as well. The Cast includes Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Valez, Zoё Kravitz, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Nicolas Cage, Kathryn Hahn, Live Schreiber, Chris Pine, Natalie Morales, Oscar Isaac, Greta Lee, and Stan Lee. Philip and Andrew welcome each other back from the break and talk about what they have seen in the meantime. Both saw Skyscraper, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but not together. Tey then discussed what TV show they were hooked on at the momen: Philip is watching “The Walking Dead’ and Andrew is hooked on “Manifest” on NBC. Now into the Spider-verse! At first Andrew was reluctant to take his children to see the film fearing it would be too violent or inappropriate. However, upon hearing that Philip was going to take his children, Andrew reevaluated his opinion. After looking at a parental guide to how appropriate films are for families, Andrew was comfortable taking his children. Philip and Andrew had few complaints, if you could call them that, about Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. Green Goblin was huge for some reason, making him more like a monster than a costumed villain. Then there was Prowler, a Batmanesque villain that neither brother was familiar with. Almost thought it was newly invented for the film. This film featured not one Spider-man, but 6 Spider-people. Miles Morales who is the subject of the film, hen there was Peter Parker, we all know him. Next up is Gwen Stacy, a love interest of Peter's, but this version has the spider powers instead. now on to the even lesser known heroes. Spider-man Noir, a Humphrey Bogart style Peter Parker hailing from a black and white dimension, and of all the doors he had to walk. into, he had to walk into ours. Peni Parker, a Japanese animé styled version from the future, sporting a spider-mech suit operated by a spider that was also her father? And last but not least, Spider-Ham, a pig named Peter Porker, who has spider powers. Touching back on the unfamiliarity of the Prowler, Miles Morales has the powers of Spider-man, and then some. On top of wall crawling, he has Venom Strike, a directed energy from his hands that causes paralysis. Then he has camouflage, an ability to match his surroundings that makes him virtually invisible. After looking these up, Philip and Andrew quickly realized they are cannon to the comics. The Brothers Brotastic equally rated this film Two Tickets. It's fun, its family friendly, its unique, and both would go back to the theater in a heartbeat. Until Next time, we'll see you at the movies. And don't forget to check your ticket stubs!

The Brothers Brotastic have been on a bit of a hiatus due to sickness and holidays, but they are back!! Right out the gate they tackle an issue with the British Film Institute saying no to scarred villains. Bad news for James Bond films. Also Daredevil's Cancellation, as well as the bevy of streaming services; are there too many? Philip and Andrew welcome each other back from Thanksgiving break and recall the holiday as both pleasant and not so pleasant. Some people got sick. Next up, some of the movies they have seen since the last show, Halloween, The Meg, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald. Philip enjoyed Halloween and The Meg. Andrew thought Fantastic Beasts was okay, but did not stand on its own. The BFI announced that it will no longer fund movies that depict the villains with scars. They feel that real life scar victims shouldn't live with the stigma of being evil just because they have a scar. Philip and Andrew both understand this issue, but Philip has an issue with BFI making that choice for the filmmaker. Both the brothers however do see that it might be off-putting to be a scar victim and any time you see a person who looks like you in film, its a villain. BFI also announced they are funding a movie starring a real life burn victim in a roll about scars. Netflix cancelled Daredevil, and both Andrew and Philip feel like that was the final nail in the coffin for Netflix's Marvel shows. Luke Cage and Iron Fist got the boot about a month ago, but they also were not as successful as Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Will they live on with their current actors? Or will they be recast and rebooted later? Finally, Streaming services!! So many!! Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, CBS All Access, DC Universe. But then, Warner Media is planning a service, Disney is planning a service. More are sure to be on the way. Is it really cutting the cable if you subscribe to 8 or more streaming services? They don't have 2 year contracts like cable and satellite services have, so there is that. Until next time, We'll see you at the movies. And don't forget to check you ticket stubs.
Philip and Andrew get a rare chance to see an original film print of 2001: A Space Odyssey as part of a 50th anniversary film screening at a local art house theater. They also got a chance to sit down with Jeff Huston who led the panel discussion to talk about the relevance of 2001 and its much debated ending. Why do films like 2001 deserve anniversary screenings? Philip and Andrew discuss how they had actually tried to record an episode about 2001 already and they not only had recording issues, but was not able to see the film for its 50th anniversary run in AMC theaters. Philip and Andrew sat down with Jeff Huston, VP of the OKFCC and writer for the Tulsa Voice, to discuss the film's relevance and its much debated ending. The experience of seeing the film "on film" in the theater is one of a kind. Having seen the film in high definition at home, the grainy analog presentation somehow faired much better. Experiencing an unexpected intermission and a missed reel change made for an experience that cannot be duplicated. Do unsubstantiated claims about movie characters and plot lines from people on the internet have any merit? More often than not, the filmmakers themselves don't pay any attention to them, so should we treat them the same way? Or is it just a fun idea to talk about film theories at the water cooler? Is Cinematic Brotastic part of the Star Trek Universe? That's.... that's just a theory.

Trailers that use footage from a work that has since been retooled and reshot, yet they still advertise the original film that ultimately will not see the light of day with the exception of special editions or deleted scenes. Is this practice false advertising? Or could the trailer be selling the general idea of the film, and therefore, still be okay? Listen in on what the Brothers Brotastic have to say.
Philip and Andrew discuss streaming services and their ethics, their worth as a service, and their future. It's finally happened. Shana has convinced Daniel to start podcasting Joss Whedon. They start with what is probably his most interesting series, Firefly, and will be doing all the episodes of the series plus the theatrical film over the next few months. In this episode then, they discuss the two-part pilot "Serenity," introduce all the major characters, and discuss the use of gender within the show. Daniel picks a few bones with worldbuilding, and sets out the general complaint that the series' Western setting (along with the military background of two of its main characters) implies a connection to the American Confederacy that the show never really deals with authentically. It's going to be a very controversial ride. Main Topic: Serenity. Hirsute and handsome. Shana versus Daniel. Whedonite. Introductions. Pandering. History with Buffy. History with Firefly. Hide the kiddies, brace yourself and, if you're easily offended, you may want to skip at least the second half of this week's show. Andrew Dice Clay is coming to Vegas in July for another set of shows on the Strip that may portend a headliner residency, so the controversial and foul-mouthed comic is our guest tonight. Is he, as he likes to say, the Elvis of comedy, or is he, as Steve put it in their conversation much to Dice's annoyance, an overgrown Fonzie? Judge for yourself this hour as they go at it about the 51-year-old's overactive sex life, about ejecting hecklers and about why he canceled some recent shows in Utah. Plus, hear his version of what happened when Saturday Night Live player Nora Dunn quit the show because he was hosting. In Banter: The Twin River racino, Michael Jackson's death, Patti LuPone's outburst, the Danny Gans 911 call, the tricky Brotastic ad, the survey about Vegas tourist walking habits and Lance Burton looks forward to six more years and (then?) the Monte Carlo's implosion.
