Kathryn Hahn never set out to be an explicitly comedic actress. But starting with breakthrough roles in instant classics like ‘Anchorman' and ‘Step Brothers,' she has slowly but surely established herself as a comedy powerhouse who can go toe-to-toe with everyone from Will Ferrell to Amy Poehler. So it should come as no surprise that she spent 2025 stealing scenes from Seth Rogen on his Apple TV satire ‘The Studio.' In this episode, Hahn breaks down how she embraced her character Maya's signature style, reveals the famous guest star who impressed her most, and explains how the Season 1 cliffhanger predicted the Netflix-Warner Bros. deal that could reshape Hollywood forever. She also shares stories from the sets of her iconic comedy films, discusses the dream come true of entering the Marvel universe as Agatha Harkness, and teases what fans can expect from the upcoming second season of ‘The Studio.' If the uber-talented assassin John Wick had been a family man, his movie might have looked a bit like "Nobody 2." Bob Odenkirk returns in the sequel to his surprise 2021 hit that blended bloody stunt work and cheeky humor. RZA, Christopher Lloyd and Connie Nielsen also return for round two. This time out, Bob takes the family on vacation to an aging amusement village where he manages to cross a notorious and ruthless crime boss, played by Sharon Stone. “Nobody 2” is a wild ride that goes a bit too far but is bolstered by terrific stunt work and a likable cast. The Netflix comedy "Fixed" may be animated but is definitely not for the kiddies. This lude and painfully obvious farce is about a dog that has one aggressively decadent night before he is to be neutered. Adam Devine, Idris Elba and Kathryn Hahn lend their voices to what is essentially a one-joke movie overloaded with excessively crass and grossout scatological elements. “Fixed” is made for adults, but the humor is strictly juvenile. The gritty slice-of-life drama "East of Wall" was one of the winners at this year's Sundance Film Festival. It's a docu drama inspired by the hardscrabble lives of South Dakota horse trainer Tabitha Zimiga and her teenage daughter Porshia. They play themselves as filmmaker Kate Beecroft dramatizes Tabitha's attempts to care for wild horses as well as a passel of wayward teenagers all while navigating multiple personal tragedies. While the pacing is a bit sluggish and the dialogue iffy, "East of Wall" is strengthened by its unapologetic realism.

Chase Sui Wonders has already proven herself a scene-stealing force via titles like Generation and Bodies Bodies Bodies, but 2025 is solidifying her as an undeniable star. In March, she debuted The Studio, an Apple TV+ series in which she stars opposite powerhouses Seth Rogen, Catherine O'Hara, Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Hahn. Mere days after that show scored a whopping 23 Emmy nominations, Wonders headlines one of the most anticipated movies of the year - the new I Know What You Did Last Summer.Similar to the 1997 original, on July 4, Wonders' Ava and her group of friends go for a drive and stop on the side of the road to watch the fireworks. When one walks into the road, an approaching car swerves to avoid hitting him and veers off the edge of the cliff. Rather than report the incident, the group attempts to sweep it under the rug. And they're confident they've done it until they all regroup next year and come to learn that they're being hunted by a killer who claims, “I know what you did last summer.”With I Know What You Did Last Summer now playing in theaters nationwide, Wonders joined me for a Collider Ladies Night chat to retrace her steps to the film. She looks back on her time studying at Harvard and how booking the role of Riley on HBO Max's Generation wound up being a career game-changer. She also discusses her directing ambitions and what she took from watching Rogen wear multiple hats on the set of The Studio, and then breaks down all the biggest moments of I Know What You Did Last Summer, including sharing scenes with franchise icons Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., and the movie's third act twists. Editors - Catherine Haight ACE, Laura Zempel ACE and Isaac Hagy ACE SIRENS editors Cate, Laura and Isaac have crafted a television experience that intrigues and entertains the audience, while also challenging them on conventional gender biases. Their work on SIRENS was not just professionally unifying but creatively fulfilling as well. The team established a ritual of analyzing scenes together each week, discussing tone, performance, and overarching storyline elements. This collaborative approach allowed them to align their unique editing styles into a cohesive representation of the series' narrative. One of the remarkable aspects of SIRENS is its tonal balance—oscillating between humor, mystery, and drama. The show's collaborative ethos even extended beyond the main editing trio. They leaned on the talents of assistant editors like Jen Bryson, who ultimately co-edited Episode 5 with Laura. Based on her play, Elemeno Pea, Molly Smith Metzler's Sirens tells the story of two estranged sisters from Buffalo, Devon and Simon. While Devon is back in Buffalo, caring for their father who suffers from early on-set dementia, Simone is living in the idyllic seaside town Port Haven, working as a personal assistant for a wealthy socialite named Michaela. When Devon travels to Port Haven to bring Simone back to Buffalo to help care for their father, she finds a resistant sister who seems to be under some kind of mind control from her employer. When Devon refuses to leave without Simone, the mystery of Michaela unravels in a blend of drama and dark comedy. CATHERINE HAIGHT, ACE Catherine Haight, ACE is a film editor who has helped bring many award-winning television shows and films to the screen. Cate also has edited the films Troop Zero, starring Viola Davis and Allison Janney, and Puzzle, with Kelly Macdonald and Irrfan Khan. She also cut the television series High Desert, Mozart in the Jungle, Girls, and New Girl. Her work on the pilot episode of Transparent earned her a nomination for both an Emmy and ACE Eddie Award, and she also received an ACE Eddie nomination for the pilot of Girls. Cate is a member of The American Cinema Editors and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Originally from New Hampshire, she now resides in Los Angeles with her husband. LAURA ZEMPEL, ACE Laura Zempel, ACE is a two-time Emmy Award winning editor based in Los Angeles. Originally from Sacramento, she received a BFA in Film Production from Chapman University. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay come to the realization that they just became best friends while talking about 'Step Brothers.' Andy starts off the episode by detailing how his real life battle with a roommate over a drum kit lead to an unfortunate physical confrontation — very much like Dale and Brennan in the movie. Then the boys talk about one of the last great R-rated studio comedies that is anchored by Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly, but elevated by an incredible supporting cast including Adam Scott, Richard Jenkins, and Kathryn Hahn. Inspired by the opening of the flick, the guys get deep into the weeds and share their recipes for makeshift nachos that are just tossed in the microwave. Afterwards, Kathryn Hahn's uncomfortable forward facing bathroom sex scene leads Bombay to remember a unique position he pulled off with an ex. Of course there's discussion about bunk beds, and freeing up room to do so much activities. This episode will have you grooving and nodding your head as if you were listening to "Boats n' Hoes."

“This is gooning for people who like nice stuff.” - Chris On this week's holiday episode, we're chatting about the Christmas snooze, The Holiday! Is this considered a Christmas classic? Why couldn't we just have one of these storylines instead of both of them vying for movie supremacy? How little romantic chemistry do Kate Winslet and Jack Black have with one another? Besides The Talented Mr. Ripley, has Jude Law been any more handsome than this movie? Why did Nancy Meyers put so little detail and conflict in this screenplay? How humiliating is it when they make Kate Winslet do all that Jack Black-style scatting? PLUS: The guys wish to party with the great Hans Zimmer after one of his big-ass rock concerts! The Holiday stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black, Edward Burns, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, Bill Macy, Shelley Berman, Kathryn Hahn, John Krasinski, and Eli Wallach as Arthur; directed by Nancy Meyers. Actor Kathryn Hahn joins Sam from her “she shed” to talk about how important it is to try a decision on for size before you make it and how she's very good at getting rid of stuff (except for her kids' art projects). They talk about taking jobs to pay off student loans, the distinct wetness of pre-packaged hardboiled eggs, why moving to LA was never part of her plan, and watching their moms go through menopause. Agatha All Along is a darkly funny new Marvel show on Disney Plus. It stars the selfish, sardonic and hilariously petty witch Agatha Harkness, played by the great and good Kathryn Hahn. When a mysterious goth teen saves her from a spell she's been trapped in, she assembles a coven of witches so they can together undergo a series of trials that will grant them each what they most desire. The thing is – the other witches hate Agatha's guts, and there's more to this goth kid than meets the eye.Subscribe to Pop Culture Happy Hour Plus at plus.npr.org/happyhour Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
