Coming off the heels of its 30th anniversary, Anthropologie has no plans to slow down. Anthropologie celebrated its 30th anniversary in late September and, in step, produced an interactive installation at the New York Academy of Art called “By Hand, By Heart.” The installation, which ran from Oct. 1-2, showcased the brand's rich history and decades' worth of eye-catching storefront art. The company also published its first coffee table book with Rizzoli, titled "Art of Anthropologie," which celebrates Anthropologie's roots and creative accomplishments. At the helm of the heritage brand is Tricia Smith, who took on the role of global CEO in April 2021. From a very young age, Smith knew she was passionate about retail and serving customers. Though Anthropologie's reputation for keeping the customer front and center was one of the biggest draws for Smith, it was an unforgettable experience while visiting Anthropologie's Soho, NY location over 20 years ago that piqued her interest in the brand. "I remember the way the store made me feel. I distinctly remember that it was the first time that I, as a young woman, felt inspired by a retail experience," Smith shared on the latest episode of the Glossy Podcast. "It was the thoughtfulness of the curation of products, from apparel to candles and home accessories, all celebrated with these amazing and incredible visual installations. It inspired this sense of discovery in me that Anthropologie was the first to create." Since assuming the role as global CEO, Smith's biggest goal has been to invoke that same feeling of inspiration and creativity in customers. "When the opportunity was presented to me to join as the CEO, yes, it was exciting. But it was a bit of a pinch-me moment," Smith added.
In today's Daily Fix, another intrepid modder is taking on the daunting task of remaking The Simpsons: Hit & Run. This time, El Gato Del Tejado is going a step further by not just remastering the cutscenes, but completely redrawing them in the 2D Simpsons style...BY HAND. Hopefully, this level of dedication will show The Simpsons license-holders how badly the community wants a remastered Hit & Run, or maybe even a sequel. In console hardware news, Sony is amping up production to meet the demand for the holidays. PlayStation 5's are still hard to come by, so we do have to ask, "What have they been doing all this time?" To be fair, this is still the ongoing supply chain issues and parts shortages plaguing every industry, and those problems don't seem to be going away any time soon. And sticking with consoles, former Xbox head Peter Moore admitted that he liked the 'console wars' as it helps foster competition. Any economist will tell you that a certain level of competition is healthy and fosters innovation. Moore believes we wouldn't have the PS5 as we have it now if Microsoft packed it in after the Xbox 360 and Red Ring of Death fiasco. Do you agree with him? Let us know in the comments!

In a trip unlike any that has come before, twin brothers Casey and Ryan prone paddled 18' boards from the coast of Alaska all the way down to Mexico. It is an endurance feat that is nearly impossible to imagine. Day in day out, 2,200 brutal miles of paddling, with no support for months and months. In their pursuit of adventure they braved the ferocity of Mother Nature- freezing cold temps, powerful gusts of wind and board-breaking waves. Eventually facing down great white sharks and the ever present brotherly rivalry, the Higginbotham boys accomplished the inconceivable journey of a lifetime. We've featured many adventures, both big and small, on this podcast. The "By Hand Project" has got to be the most grand in its scale and unthinkable in its scope. Ryan and Casey's accomplishment pushes the boundaries of what is possible and teaches us to expand our own possibilities by intentionally seeking out our own grand quests. Their's is an epic adventure story in all sense of the word. I truly hope you love this episode as much as I do! Going into it I was already stunned by what these two had accomplished and leaving the conversation I was truly moved to experience this world and all of its adventures on a whole new level. I think this quote from their website describes the epicness perfectly: "The brothers carried nothing more than two dry bags of gear each and a camera. No support boats, no paddles, and nothing similar to gauge from. Nothing like this has ever been done. " Please support the brothers' documentary "By Hand, the Film" on Kickstarter. I promise you it will be one of the most unique and incredible adventure film you will see all year. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/byhandfilm/by-hand-the-film MORE FROM THE BY HAND PROJECT: Support Their Documentary on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/byhandfilm/by-hand-the-film Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/byhandproject/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ByHandTheFilm/ "From Alaska to Mexico. We don't mean to needle you about it, but we have some concerns about tattoos.
On the Spark episode "By Hand," glass artist Pamina Traylor turns molten glass into pieces of lyrical beauty. Even though Traylor's glass work is by hand, her hands initially can't touch the glass itself. She begins by dipping a pipe into a lake of molten glass the consistency of honey, gathering it out, and starting to shape and blow the glass. Then Traylor often relies on many sets of hands to strike while the glass is hot.
