I'm thrilled to share an inspiring conversation with Katie Gettys, an innovative entrepreneur who has mastered the art of scaling online teaching businesses. Katie's journey is a fascinating blend of passion, travel, and entrepreneurial spirit that offers valuable lessons for educators everywhere. From Classroom to Global AdventureKatie began her career as a traditional music educator, teaching elementary school students. However, a quarter-life crisis at age 25 led her to take a bold step. She left her classroom job to travel and live abroad, spending time in Prague and exploring Europe and Southeast Asia. During this period, she discovered online teaching through VipKid, where she taught English to children in China.Discovering Outschool and Online Music TeachingUpon returning to the States at the onset of the pandemic, Katie missed her musical roots and sought ways to teach music online. She found Outschool, an online platform that allows teachers to create and offer classes to children aged 3 to 18. Within three months, Katie was making more than half of her previous teaching salary, and she knew she had found her niche. What is Outschool?Outschool is an online marketplace connecting students and teachers for a wide range of subjects, including music, life skills, and more. Unlike traditional education platforms, Outschool does not require teachers to have formal degrees—just a passion and expertise in their subject area. While Outschool takes a 30% cut of earnings, the platform's extensive marketing and student base make it a valuable partner for many educators.Expanding Her StudioKatie's success on Outschool allowed her to scale her business further by hiring other teachers to meet growing demand. This move not only diversified her studio's offerings (including piano, voice, and drums) but also enabled her to serve more students effectively. Transitioning from an independent teacher to managing an organization on Outschool required creating a legal entity and demonstrating her ability to attract students, a process Katie now helps others navigate through her coaching business.Overcoming Challenges and Personal GrowthKatie's journey wasn't without challenges. She faced significant self-doubt, especially when considering hiring other teachers. However, she worked through these limiting beliefs and embraced her role as a leader. Katie also shared insights into managing multiple projects and the importance of simplifying to avoid overwhelm. The Importance of Focus and SimplificationBoth Katie and I resonate with the idea that business growth often reflects personal growth. Katie has explored various business avenues but recently emphasized the need to focus on what truly matters. This approach reduces stress and increases efficiency, allowing her to enjoy the freedom that entrepreneurship promises.Katie's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of pursuing your passion, even if it means taking unconventional paths. Her success with Outschool and her ability to scale her business while maintaining a focus on personal growth offer valuable lessons for all educators.Connect with KatieHelp teachers start and scale their teaching businesses with Outschool. Welcome to another episode of The Prosperous Piano Teacher! Today I'm thrilled to delve into a topic that might sound a bit unconventional at first: three "woo" tips to boost your income over the next year. Now, before you raise an eyebrow, let's explore how embracing a bit of the mystical and intuitive side can actually work wonders for your financial growth.Embracing the WooLet's face it: as entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves deep in the trenches of strategy and tactics, trying to navigate the practical aspects of running a business. But what about that part of us that craves intuition and spiritual connection? For me, that "woo" side has always been present—a deep knowing that music is about more than just notes and rhythms, but a profound connection.I want to share three tips that have been instrumental in my own journey, even if they might seem a bit unconventional to some. These are practices that have worked for me, often without me even realizing it until I saw similar strategies discussed by successful entrepreneurs and in books on manifestation.Reflecting on Unexpected AchievementsLet's start by reflecting on the unexpected paths to success. I shared my own story of paying off student loans after nine years, a goal I had set but had no clear path to achieve. Life took unexpected turns with my divorce and selling my house, leading to the fulfillment of that goal in ways I couldn't have predicted.I invite you to think back on your own life. Remember those big goals or milestones you achieved—starting a business, graduating, buying a home—and how the journey unfolded. More often than not, we find that the "how" was not what we originally planned. Life has a way of surprising us, and it's okay not to have all the answers.Bonus Tip: Release the HowHere's where the magic happens—by releasing the need to know exactly how we'll achieve our goals, we make space for creative solutions and serendipitous moments. Trusting in the process, even when it seems unclear, can lead to those "aha" moments where the path forward becomes clear.I'm excited to hear your thoughts on today's episode! I know "woo" topics might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I believe these tips are universally applicable, whether you're a business owner or simply aiming for financial growth. If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you! Share your thoughts with me on Instagram, and if you found value in these tips, consider sharing the episode with a friend or on social media.Remember, these practices are not just for business owners—they're for anyone looking to improve their money mindset and reach their financial goals. And if you've been enjoying The Prosperous Piano Teacher, leaving a rating and review would mean the world to me. Your support helps these episodes reach others who might benefit from them.I want to remind you that you are powerful, and you have the ability to create the financial abundance you desire. Trust in the process, release the need for rigid plans, and make space for life's magic. Here's to a fantastic week ahead, and I can't wait to be back with you for the next episode!

    53. Unveiling the Truth Behind $23,000 in Passive Income: My Evergreen Course Update

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 29, 2024 27:45

Today's episode is all about the journey to twenty-three thousand dollars in passive income from my evergreen course. If you've been following along, you might remember when I first mentioned making three thousand dollars from this course while on vacation. Well, fast forward to now, and it has brought in twenty-three thousand dollars in the last four months alone. So, what's the secret? Is passive income really passive? Let's dive in.The Myth of Passive IncomeLet's start by addressing the term "passive income." I've always had mixed feelings about it. The term implies earning money without effort, which isn't entirely true. For me, passive income involves setting up a revenue stream that operates with minimal ongoing work. It's not about doing nothing; it's about scalability and efficiency. This journey started last April when the idea for this course first took shape. By June, I was selling it as a live class, and by October, I had transitioned it into an evergreen course. Since then, it's been running smoothly in the background, bringing in revenue with minimal effort. Now, let's talk about the biggest lesson I've learned: the importance of data. Collecting and analyzing data about every part of the process has been crucial. From the landing page visits to video watch times to email clicks, every data point tells a story.False attribution is a trap many fall into. It's when we attribute a drop in sales or other metrics to the wrong causes without looking at the data. For example, a decrease in sales could lead to knee-jerk reactions like re-recording webinars or changing prices. But without analyzing the data, it's just guessing.I experimented with ManyChat, an automation tool, to streamline the process. While it increased opt-ins, it also led to lower video watch rates. This change affected revenue, but instead of panicking, I trusted the data. Patience is key, especially when introducing new elements to the funnel.Buyers often take about forty-two days to convert into customers. It's a process of warming up, considering, and then making a decision. Understanding this helped me remain patient and not overreact to short-term fluctuations.Remember that building passive income takes time and patience. It's not an overnight success story but a journey of setting up systems, analyzing data, and making informed decisions. And always beware of false attribution—it can lead you astray. If you're considering creating a course or venturing into passive income, know that you can do it. Trust the process, collect your data, and stay patient. And if this episode resonated with you, reach out on Instagram. Your feedback helps shape the content.Remember, it's a process, but with dedication and data, you can achieve your goals. Thank you for tuning in to today's episode. I hope you found these insights valuable as you navigate your own journey to passive income.

Welcome to another episode of The Prosperous Piano Teacher! I'm Ashlee, and today I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tiffany Strong Smith, a remarkable individual with a wealth of experience in the world of piano teaching. Tiffany's journey is not just about running a successful studio; it's about following her passion, making tough decisions, and redefining what it means to work hard.A Journey Rooted in PassionTiffany's journey began at the age of five when she started piano lessons. Like many young students, she had her moments of frustration and resistance, but her parents' unwavering support kept her on track. Little did she know that this early introduction to music would shape her life in unexpected ways. After years of teaching private lessons from her home, Tiffany found herself at a crossroads in 2015. Feeling uninspired and frustrated with the status quo, she took a leap of faith and ventured into group lessons. This decision was unconventional at the time, but it turned out to be a game-changer for her studio. The Evolution to a Brick-and-Mortar StudioGroup lessons proved to be immensely successful, and Tiffany quickly outgrew her home studio. In partnership with a friend, she founded KeyBox Studio in Gilbert, Arizona. The transition from a home studio to a brick-and-mortar location was not without its challenges, particularly when it came to hiring teachers and setting tuition rates. One of the most significant hurdles was realizing that the initial financial projections fell short. Tiffany had to recalibrate and make tough decisions about tuition rates and teacher compensation. It was a learning curve, but she recognized the importance of valuing her teachers while ensuring the business remained sustainable. The Courage to Raise PricesA pivotal moment came during the pandemic when Tiffany and her business partner made the bold decision to raise prices by thirty percent. It was a risky move, especially during uncertain times, but it paid off. The studio not only survived but thrived, proving that sometimes the most daunting decisions lead to the greatest rewards.Working Smart, Not Just HardIn our conversation, Tiffany and I explored the concept of "working hard" in the context of building a successful studio. Contrary to the traditional narrative of long hours and constant hustle, she emphasized a different kind of hard work. For Tiffany, working hard meant making tough decisions, trusting her instincts, and being open to change. She shared how her definition of hard work evolved over the years. It was not about teaching more hours or taking on more students but about making strategic choices that aligned with her vision. Whether it was transitioning to group lessons, raising prices, or launching new initiatives, Tiffany's journey was guided by courage and conviction.Lessons in Business and PassionThrough Tiffany's story, we learn valuable lessons about running a successful studio:Value Your Teachers: Finding the right teachers who align with your studio's culture is crucial. Fair compensation and clear communication are key to a harmonious working relationship.Set Your Prices Wisely: Don't be afraid to charge what your services are worth. Setting prices based on the business's needs, not fear, ensures sustainability.Embrace Change: Tiffany's willingness to try new approaches and pivot when necessary led to growth and success. Be open to new ideas and opportunities.Follow Your Passion: Above all, Tiffany's journey is a testament to the power of following your passion. When you love what you do and believe in your vision, the hard work becomes a labor of love.Tiffany shared her excitement about a new project on the horizon. Despite the challenges and uncertainties she faced, her journey as a piano teacher has been one of fulfillment and joy. She...

In this episode, we delve into the three major mistakes that can hinder your progress towards earning a six-figure income. By recognizing and addressing these pitfalls, you can pave the way for greater success and financial stability in your endeavors.1. Not Valuing Your Time:It's essential to recognize the value of your time beyond just the monetary exchange per hour.Consider other forms of currency such as time and energy, which are equally important.Failure to account for all the hours spent outside of direct lessons can lead to underestimating the true investment of time.Be mindful of the time required for tasks like creating content and providing customer service, as these can significantly impact your workload and energy reserves.2. Getting Stuck in a Scarcity Mindset:Avoid the trap of solely focusing on immediate financial gains, which can foster a scarcity mindset.Making decisions based solely on the need for immediate income may lead to compromising your boundaries and goals.Example: Accepting new students out of desperation for quick cash can deplete both your time and energy reserves, ultimately hindering your long-term growth.3. Not Thinking Ahead for Scalability:Take a proactive approach to scalability by implementing efficient systems and processes.Consider aspects like client onboarding, where creating templates can streamline communication and save time. When creating courses or products, avoid including elements that may need frequent revisions, which can hinder scalability.Utilize tools like CRM systems to effectively manage and organize customer information, ensuring smooth operations and growth.By recognizing and addressing these common mistakes, you can overcome barriers to reaching a six-figure income. Valuing your time, avoiding a scarcity mindset, and planning for scalability are crucial steps towards achieving financial success and stability in your endeavors.

From creating anticipation to speaking directly to your customer's needs, these tactics transcend industries and marketing methods. So, let's dive in!Creating Buzz in Advance: Plan for SuccessOne of the cornerstones of effective marketing is creating anticipation. By letting people know ahead of time about your upcoming ventures, you build excitement and intrigue around your brand. Take the time to plan your marketing efforts strategically. Whether it's an event, product launch, or special promotion, scheduling promotions and announcements can make a significant impact. In a previous episode (Episode 35: 2 Steps for Setting Kickass Income Goals AND Reaching Them in 2024"), we discussed the importance of setting goals and planning for success. Incorporating these principles into your marketing strategy can help you stay organized and focused on your objectives.Honesty about Scarcity: Building Genuine UrgencyScarcity is a powerful psychological trigger that compels action. However, it's crucial to be genuine about scarcity. Whether you're offering limited spots in a program or product inventory, honesty is key. Fake scarcity tactics can damage trust and credibility in the long run. Remember, every customer is valuable, and your business infrastructure should support the demand you generate.Implementing Deadlines: Urgency Drives ActionDeadlines are effective motivators for customers. Whether it's a limited-time bonus offer or enrollment closing, deadlines create a sense of urgency and encourage customers to act swiftly. For example, if your product or service is only available at certain times of the year, communicate this clearly to your audience. Additionally, signaling future price increases can incentivize customers to make a purchase sooner rather than later.Speaking Directly to Customers' Needs: The Power of BenefitsWhen promoting your products or services, focus on the benefits they offer to your customers. Rather than simply listing your credentials or accomplishments, articulate how your offering will address their needs and enhance their lives. By emphasizing transformation and tangible benefits, you can connect with your audience on a deeper level and inspire action.Taking Your Marketing to the Next LevelIn today's competitive landscape, effective marketing is more important than ever. By implementing timeless strategies that prioritize honesty, urgency, and customer-centric communication, you can position your business for long-term success. Whether you're a seasoned content creator or just starting out, this episode is packed with tangible strategies to streamline your content creation process. Let's dive in!The Idea PhaseThe first stage of content creation is the idea phase. This is where inspiration strikes, and you brainstorm ideas for your content. Keep a central repository for all your ideas, whether it's a notes app, Google doc, or a project management tool like Trello. Detailed notes ensure you don't forget your brilliant ideas and can easily access them when needed. The Planning StageNext comes the planning stage, where you map out your content in detail. Planning ahead not only saves time but also ensures your content aligns with your overall goals and strategy. Consider creating templates to streamline this process and maintain consistency across your content. The Creation StageNow it's time to bring your content to life. With a clear plan in hand, recording or writing becomes more efficient. For beginners, this stage may feel daunting, but remember, practice makes perfect. Embrace imperfection and focus on progress over perfection. As you gain experience, you'll become more comfortable and efficient in the creation stage. The Post StageThe final stage is the post-production phase, which involves editing, uploading, and publishing your content. Editing can be time-consuming, especially for beginners, but don't be discouraged. With practice, you'll develop editing skills and find tools that work best for you. Remember to allow yourself time to learn and grow in this stage.Content creation is a journey that requires patience, persistence, and creativity. One such educator, Tim Topham, has not only been on a six-year journey of blogging and podcasting but has also recently authored a groundbreaking book, "No Book Beginners." In this podcast, we dive into Tim's creative process, the inspiration behind his book, and the valuable lessons he's learned along the way.The Genesis of "No Book Beginners":Tim Topham's journey began with a commitment to push the boundaries of traditional piano teaching methods. Drawing inspiration from various pedagogical approaches such as Music Learning Theory, Kada, and Suzuki, he embarked on a mission to create something unique. His experiment began with a seven-year-old student named Josh, marking the genesis of "No Book Beginners."Tim decided to challenge the norm by refraining from using a method book for the first 10 weeks of lessons, effectively turning Josh into a guinea pig for an innovative teaching program. Despite initial doubts, Tim's approach resulted in significant musical growth and increased musicality in Josh compared to students who followed a more conventional reading-first approach. From Experiment to BookEncouraged by Josh's success, Tim went on to develop a comprehensive program titled "No Book Beginners." Recognizing the potential impact on piano education, he recorded a course to share this approach with fellow educators. This eventually led to the creation of his book.Earlier this year, after years of contemplating a book, Tim finally found the focus – "No Book Beginners." He aimed to distill his extensive knowledge of music education into a practical guide for teachers seeking a fresh perspective. Starting with a larger concept, he decided to narrow down the book's focus to make it more accessible and impactful. The Writing ProcessWriting a book can be a daunting task, especially for those new to the process. Tim shared insights into his writing journey, emphasizing key aspects that helped him overcome hurdles. One crucial recommendation is to set aside dedicated time each day, creating a structured routine for writing. Additionally, using tools like Scrivener for outlining and breaking down the writing process into manageable goals can make the endeavor more achievable.Tim highlighted the importance of not being overly critical during the initial writing phase. Instead, the focus should be on getting ideas down on paper, with the understanding that refinement and editing will come later. The power of outlining, specifically spending six hours brainstorming and organizing ideas, played a pivotal role in shaping the book's structure.Navigating the Editing ProcessAfter completing the initial writing phase, Tim engaged in a rigorous editing process. Working with structural and copy editors, he ensured the book's coherence, clarity, and adherence to a style guide. The editing journey involved several rounds, from structural adjustments to meticulous line editing and proofreading.Tim stressed the significance of investing time and resources in thorough editing to produce a professional and error-free final product. He acknowledged the investment required but emphasized the satisfaction of holding a polished book that aligns with his professional...

What we're discussing is not just about studio policies; it's a formula that can empower you and make every conversation, both in and out of your business, much smoother.Recap of Part One:Before we delve into today's formula, I'd like to briefly recap Part One of this two-part series. In the previous episode, we explored specific studio policies that can effectively address common issues faced by piano teachers. If you haven't listened to it yet, I recommend checking it out for a comprehensive understanding of the policies that can transform your teaching experience. The Power-Packed Formula:Now, let's jump into the formula that will take your power back in your business and simplify every conversation about studio policies. This powerful formula consists of two key steps: validate and restate.Validate:Acknowledge what the other person is saying.Show understanding and empathy.Let them know you hear and respect their perspective.Restate:Clearly restate your studio policy or boundary.Reinforce the reality of your established guidelines.Keep it concise and avoid unnecessary explanations or justifications.Breaking Down the Formula:Let's break down each step:Example 1: Studio Closure PolicySuppose a client questions the increased number of studio closure days in your new policy:Validation: "Yes, the schedule is changing, and I understand that feels different from our past practices."Restate: "The new schedule for 2024 is in effect. Let me know if it works for you going forward."This approach avoids unnecessary explanations and puts the decision back in their hands.Example 2: Rate Increase PolicyIf a client expresses concern about the raised rates:Validation: "I totally understand if the new rates are challenging for you right now."Restate: "These are the new rates for 2024. Let me know if it works for you, and I'll miss seeing you every week."Again, validate their concern but firmly restate your policy.Adding a Softener (Optional):For those who find the formula too direct, consider adding a softener—a small opening or "door" to the conversation. Use this sparingly, and only if it feels appropriate.Softener Example:"I love having you in the studio. If the rate raise is challenging, let's talk and see if we can find a solution."This softens the boundary without compromising your policies.Implementing this formula in your studio communication can be a game-changer. It shifts your mindset, empowers you, and eliminates the need for constant justifications. Remember, "no" is a complete sentence, and you can confidently stand by your policies. As you practice this formula, you'll find conversations becoming easier and more respectful of your time and boundaries.Thank you for joining me in this two-part series. Download your FREE copy of How to Level up Your Studio Policy in 3 Ways” here: 3 Ways to Level Up Your Studio PolicyJoin the FREE Facebook community for piano teachers:https://www.facebook.com/groups/theprosperouspianoteacherWelcome to today's episode, where we delve into the exciting world of goal setting for the upcoming year, 2024. I am genuinely thrilled about the valuable insights we'll be discussing on how to set kickass business and income goals and, more importantly, how to reach them. This episode is packed with actionable advice that I believe will add immense value to your journey. So, buckle up, as we embark on a two-step exploration to set meaningful and achievable goals.Step 1: Going Deeper with Your GoalsBefore we dive into the strategic aspects of goal setting, let's begin with a story about the Frozen soundtrack – an unexpected source of inspiration. Just like the characters in Frozen, we all need our "getting Brave" song, a source of motivation when facing challenges. The key is to connect with the emotions, desires, and expectations behind our goals.Imagine a goal of making $100,000 in 2024. Instead of stopping at the surface, ask yourself why. What will this financial milestone bring you – security, freedom, joy? By going deeper, you connect with the essence of your goal, making it more meaningful. Next, consider what you need to learn or gain and what you need to release to achieve this goal. For instance, if your current hourly rate generates $78,000 annually, strategize on raising rates, increasing hours, or exploring new income streams like creating a digital course. Connecting the emotional and strategic aspects of your goals provides a holistic foundation for success.Step 2: Strategizing with Three Currencies in MindNow, let's move into the strategic realm of goal setting. Consider three currencies: time, money, and energy. Instead of fixating on a single dimension, approach goal setting with a holistic perspective. Strategize on how to achieve your financial goals while maintaining a healthy balance between time investment and energy expenditure.Continuing with the $100,000 goal, assess your current hourly rate and ideal weekly working hours. Explore avenues such as rate adjustments, increased hours, or creating passive income streams. The key is to align your strategy with your desired lifestyle and energy levels. As we approach the new year, let's embrace the wisdom of Frozen's "do the next right thing." Setting and achieving goals is a journey, not a sprint. Recognize the power of taking one step at a time, ensuring each step aligns with your deeper aspirations.I encourage you to share this episode on social media, discuss it within your community, and, most importantly, reflect on your own getting Brave song. Remember, it's okay to be afraid and brave simultaneously. Your journey to 2024 is filled with possibilities, and by setting purposeful goals, you're already on the path to success. If you found value in this episode, please share it with others, and don't forget to rate and review the podcast. In this blog post, I want to share my personal journey from the early days of uncertainty to the current exciting phase of growth and success. Through the highs and lows, I've learned valuable lessons that I believe can empower anyone considering starting their own channel. So, let's dive into the story of my YouTube venture, highlighting the key milestones, mistakes made, and the insights gained along the way.The Humble BeginningsIdea Generation and First VideoMy YouTube journey started with a simple idea that I scribbled down and turned into an outline. Armed with just an iPhone and a tripod, I pressed record, sharing my thoughts on five common mistakes. No fancy lighting or extensive equipment – just raw authenticity. Looking back, the initial video was cringe-worthy, yet beautiful because it marked the moment I embraced vulnerability and took the first step.Naive Expectations and Early StrategyEager and somewhat naive, I envisioned YouTube as my key to success and riches. Monetization was the goal, believing it would supplement my teaching income. Little did I know about the reality of YouTube earnings. My strategy of posting three videos a week was ambitious, driven by a misconception that more content meant better visibility in the algorithm.Lessons in Consistency and VulnerabilityEmbracing ImperfectionThe initial videos lacked finesse, but they were a crucial starting point. Acknowledging the imperfections, I understood that progress requires vulnerability. Being willing to be bad at something initially paved the way for consistency. The Importance of CommitmentConsistency became my mantra. Despite the initial frustration of low views, I committed to the routine. Every effort, even with minimal rewards, contributed to building a foundation. Over time, the commitment paid off, and the channel gained traction.Evolving Strategies and Learning CurvesPromoting Videos and Overcoming FearsAs the channel progressed, promoting videos became essential. Venturing into Facebook groups and Reddit, I faced the challenges of online promotion. Learning the dos and don'ts, I navigated the delicate balance between visibility and avoiding spam.Shifting Strategies and Adjusting ExpectationsRealizing the fallacy of the misconception about YouTube income, I adjusted my strategy. Monetization did happen, but the earnings were far from what I initially envisioned. This goes beyond superficial indulgences and dives deep into foundational self-care. Remember, a full cup allows you to overflow positively into all aspects of your life.Inputting Good Things into Your BrainFuel your mind with positivity and knowledge. Successful entrepreneurs actively seek good inputs for their brains, whether through reading self-development books, listening to educational podcasts, or engaging in activities that stimulate creativity. For me, that moment arrived almost two years ago, triggered by a book recommended in a business Facebook group. At first, I associated manifestation with a mystical, woo-woo practice, but as I delved deeper, I discovered its practicality. This podcast aims to demystify manifestation, offering a step-by-step guide based on my experiences.Discovering ManifestationBefore my introduction to manifestation, I was oblivious to its influence on successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. Little did I know that principles of manifestation were intricately woven into discussions about money mindset, overcoming limiting beliefs, and self-improvement. As I explored podcasts and books, I found parallels with my experiences in cognitive behavioral therapy. Manifestation, far from a mystical concept, emerged as a structured, actionable process.Understanding ManifestationManifestation, in essence, is not a magical wish but a systematic approach to achieving goals. The core belief is that you attract what you believe or perceive about yourself and your capabilities. If you believe in your potential to achieve a goal—be it financial success or personal growth—your brain aligns itself to work towards that reality. However, if you harbor doubts or limiting beliefs, you hinder your brain's creative process. The Steps of ManifestationCall Your Shot:Declare your goals boldly and officially.Overcome logical objections and limiting beliefs that may arise.Rewrite Limiting Beliefs:Recognize and question limiting beliefs.Journaling and creating empowered thoughts help reshape beliefs.Affirmations serve as powerful tools to combat and rewrite limiting beliefs.Visualize Your Goals:Imagine and feel the emotions associated with achieving your goals.Practice gratitude by acknowledging existing feelings of success, empowerment, and security in your life.Take Inspired Action:Translate your goals into actionable steps.Consistent, tangible efforts align with your new beliefs and feelings.Actions can be both concrete (e.g., financial education) and less tangible (e.g., creating a positive mindset).Release Expectations:Surrender the need for specific timelines or rigid plans.Remain open to unexpected opportunities and pathways to success.A Personal JourneyReflecting on my journey, I share how my initial desire to increase income led me to unexpected ventures, like starting a YouTube channel and creating online courses. The key was remaining open to opportunities that didn't align with my preconceived notions.Manifestation is not a magic trick but a transformative process rooted in belief, visualization, action, and openness. By understanding and applying these steps, you can unlock the potential to manifest your goals, fostering personal and financial growth. It's not about controlling the journey but about trusting the process and allowing success to unfold in ways you might not have imagined. So, call your shot, rewrite those limiting beliefs,

Each carries its own set of characteristics, advantages, and challenges. In this discussion, we'll unravel these elements, dispelling myths and exploring the potential of both approaches.Understanding Offers and Containers:To comprehend the differences between group and one-on-one lessons, it's crucial to think of them as separate offers, each with its unique container. An offer encompasses the audience it caters to, the promises it makes, and various other factors such as pricing and timeline. Recognizing these distinctions allows for a more nuanced evaluation of the pros and cons associated with each type of lesson.Pros and Cons of One-on-One Lessons:One-on-one lessons offer unparalleled customization, providing a high-touch experience that is often highly valued. The teacher can tailor the curriculum, materials, and approach to the individual student. The progress of the student is closely monitored, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of their strengths and areas of improvement. However, the limitations include a finite impact, potential struggles with peer-to-peer learning, and a significant time commitment.Benefits of Group Lessons:Group lessons, when approached as a separate and well-designed offer, bring a unique set of benefits. The curriculum can be structured around specific topics or timelines, enhancing the learning experience. The creativity in designing group containers allows for diverse teaching methods, fostering peer-to-peer learning, and creating a social environment. The group dynamic unlocks learning opportunities that go beyond the capabilities of one-on-one lessons.Dispelling Myths and Embracing Group Lesson Value:One common misconception is that group lessons are inferior or less effective than one-on-one instruction. To successfully offer group lessons, it's crucial to challenge and change this belief. Ask better questions, such as how group lessons can be made as valuable or even more so than one-on-one lessons. Recognizing the distinct advantages of group lessons, such as peer-to-peer learning and a communal learning environment, can reshape perceptions.Customization in Group Lessons:While group lessons may not offer the same level of customization as one-on-one instruction, creative solutions exist. Utilizing digital platforms, establishing group communication channels, and incorporating supplementary materials can enhance the overall experience. Setting clear communication channels and response times helps manage expectations.Balancing Touchpoints in Group Lessons:Deciding the level of touchpoints in group lessons is crucial. Whether it's a fully digital course or a high-touch group class with additional one-on-one support, it's essential to consider the time and energy required. Striking a balance between accessibility and time commitment ensures an effective and sustainable group lesson model.Exciting News for 2024:A sneak peek into 2024 reveals exciting plans for a comprehensive program aimed at music teachers eager to transition beyond traditional one-on-one lessons. The program will guide teachers in moving online, creating scalable offers, and building a community of engaged...

Today, we're not only delving into the incredible teaching capabilities of Note Quest but also unraveling the journey of its creator – the challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons learned in bringing this innovative tool to life.Note Quest: Bridging Gaps in Music EducationGrace delves into the intriguing space between ideation and execution. The initial spark for Note Quest was a struggle she identified, one that needed resolution. However, the leap from idea to reality was fraught with challenges. Grace candidly shares the doubts, the almost-give-up moments, and the resilience that kept her going...After the initial release, I had to stay involved, keep learning, and keep making enhancements. One of the key lessons I learned during this phase was the importance of communication. Working with a team overseas meant dealing with time zone differences and language barriers. I had to find effective ways to convey my musical ideas and teaching methods to a team that might not have the same background. It required patience and clarity in communication. As the app started gaining traction, I also had to wear the hat of a marketer. It wasn't just about creating a great product; it was about letting the world know that it existed. I delved into social media, attended conventions, and reached out to teachers to spread the word. Building a community around the app became crucial for its success. The journey was far from smooth. There were moments of self-doubt, times when the challenges seemed insurmountable, and the financial strain of being a solo entrepreneur weighed on me. However, every positive review, every message from a teacher or student saying the app made a difference, fueled my determination to push forward.Over the years, the app has evolved. We've introduced new features, refined the user interface, and adapted to the changing needs of music educators. It's not just a static creation; it's a living, breathing entity that grows and improves with time. Now, as I reflect on the six years since the app's inception, I can see the progress and impact it has made. It's not just a tool for sight-reading; it's a tool for empowering teachers and students, making the process of learning music more enjoyable and effective. To those who have a creative idea but are hesitant to take the plunge, my advice is to embrace the journey. It won't be easy, and there will be moments of uncertainty, but that's part of the process. Stay humble, seek feedback, and be open to continuous improvement. The road to success is rarely a straight line, but the lessons learned along the way are invaluable.Follow @notequest on Instagram and DM Grace with the words: "PP Teacher" or "PP Student" (whichever applies) and your email. Grace will send you a promo code redeemable ONE FREE month of Sight Reading (iOS). Android users will receive a comparable gift (PDF resource). Offer expires November 20. We understand that there are numerous mistakes entrepreneurs make that hinder their progress toward achieving a six-figure income. While there are many aspects to cover, we will focus on two common mistakes that often go unnoticed. These mistakes are rooted in making emotional decisions instead of relying on solid business strategies. The Power of Being in the Right RoomBefore we dive into the topic, let's start by discussing the importance of being in the right environment. Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a two-day, in-person workshop hosted by my business coach. This workshop brought together like-minded individuals, members of the same Mastermind group, who shared similar goals and aspirations. The energy in the room was electric, and I gained valuable insights and inspiration. Being surrounded by people who are on the same journey can be a game-changer, and I encourage you to seek out such opportunities in your entrepreneurial path. The Mistakes Rooted in Emotional DecisionsNow, let's explore the two common mistakes that can hinder your progress toward reaching a six-figure income. These mistakes often sneak up on us and seem like good ideas at the time. However, they can seriously stunt your business growth. Both mistakes are connected to making emotional decisions rather than relying on data and standard operating procedures.Mistake #1: Responding QuicklyImagine this scenario: you receive an email from a potential student inquiring about your services. You're excited and decide to reply right away, even if it's during your non-business hours. While this may seem like a proactive approach, it has several drawbacks. It's not sustainable in the long term, as you can't scale your business by responding instantly to inquiries. Additionally, it doesn't set boundaries for your clients, teaching them that you're always available. Making decisions based on excitement or fear is not a sound business practice. Instead, create a standard operating procedure for handling inquiries, which saves time, and energy, and ensures consistent, professional responses.Mistake #2: Reacting to Price ObjectionsAnother common mistake is reacting emotionally to price objections from potential clients. When someone claims your services are too expensive, it's natural to feel uncomfortable. However, immediately offering discounts or altering your rates can be detrimental to your business. Such decisions are often driven by fear and scarcity, and they are not scalable. Your standard operating procedure should outline when and how you adjust rates or offer discounts, based on a well-thought-out business strategy, not impulsive reactions. The Importance of Standard Operating Procedures:Standard operating procedures are crucial in streamlining your business operations. They help you avoid making emotional decisions and enable you to work smarter, not harder. Automating repetitive tasks and creating procedures for common scenarios make your business more efficient and scalable. Whether it's crafting template responses for inquiries or setting up automated responses, standard operating procedures save time, and energy, and allow you to delegate tasks in the future.Collecting Data and Setting Thresholds:Lastly,

It's a decision that can have a significant impact on your business and income. In this blog post, we will explore the three questions you should avoid asking when determining your pricing strategy and three questions that will help you set prices that align with your goals and provide value to your clients. The Questions to Avoid:What Will People Pay?One of the most common pricing pitfalls is trying to predict what customers will pay. However, this question leads to a guessing game, as it's impossible to accurately gauge what people are willing to spend. Your target audience, the value you provide, and your competition all play a role in the perceived value of your offering. Instead of trying to mind-read your potential customers, focus on setting a price that reflects your worth and the value you offer. When you ask, "What will people pay?" you risk undervaluing yourself, which ultimately hinders your financial success. Experimentation with pricing may reveal that cheaper does not necessarily lead to more sales. The key is to set a price that aligns with your goals and provides value to your clients, even if it might initially seem higher than expected. What Are Others Charging? Many business owners believe they should align their prices with their competitors. This notion often leads to undervaluing your services or products. Prices should be personal and based on your business goals, not dictated by what others are doing. If you charge less than you should because others in your industry do the same, you risk shortchanging yourself and the industry as a whole.Instead of looking at what others are charging, focus on your long-term financial goals and what you need to achieve them. By setting your prices based on your income targets and the value you provide, you will not only safeguard your financial future but also ensure that you are fairly compensated for your work. Will People Think This Is Too Much? The fear of judgment can hold you back from charging what you believe you are worth. This question often stems from self-doubt and a lack of confidence in the value you offer. Remember that no matter what price you set, some people will think it's too much. Not everyone will be your ideal client, and that's perfectly fine. When you let the fear of judgment dictate your prices, you risk undervaluing your work and compromising your financial goals. Instead, focus on communicating the value of your offering to those who see its worth. The only opinion that truly matters is that of your target audience who recognizes and appreciates the value you provide. The Questions You Should Ask:How Much Money Do I Want to Make?A critical step in setting your prices is to determine how much money you want to earn. By establishing a specific income goal, you can work backward to calculate the pricing strategy needed to achieve it. For instance, if you want to make $100,000 a year and can only teach 25 hours a week, you'll need to charge approximately $77 per hour, assuming you work 52 weeks a year. This approach helps you set realistic pricing aligned with your financial objectives. It's crucial to consider the practical aspects of your business, such as taxes and operational costs when setting your...

I want to share my personal journey and insights because I believe it's essential to realize that the path to success is not always smooth. It's easy to look at successful individuals and assume they have all the answers, but the reality is, they face their own challenges and uncertainties. So, let's explore some key aspects of this journey and how you can navigate them.Rarely Hitting Your Goals:The first truth I want to share is that I rarely hit my goals. It's important to understand that setting ambitious goals is part of the growth process. Whether you hit them or not, the journey towards those goals is where you gain valuable experience and learning. Don't be discouraged if you don't achieve all your goals – growth and progress matter more than the final numbers. The Role of MindsetScaling your music business involves a lot of mindset work. I used to believe that practical business goals were the essence of success, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Your mindset plays a significant role in your journey. Overcoming limiting beliefs, self-doubt, and self-worth issues is critical. It's not about the end goal; it's about what you learn on the way there.Avoiding the Roller Coaster:Many entrepreneurs get caught up in a daily roller coaster of emotions. One day, they celebrate a success, and the next day, they doubt everything. To make real progress, you must learn to zoom out and focus on long-term goals. Don't let the daily ups and downs dictate your path; keep your eyes on the bigger picture.Technology Frustration:Technology can be a real source of frustration for many. Embrace the fact that you may not be a tech expert. Everyone starts somewhere, and it's perfectly fine to seek out information and learn as you go. The key is not to let technology obstacles hold you back.Overwhelmed by New Skills:The process of learning new skills can be overwhelming. Accept that it's okay to be a beginner. Being a novice at something doesn't make you less capable. Embrace the excitement of learning and growing, and let it drive you forward.Scaling your music business is an incredible journey filled with challenges and triumphs. Embrace these truths and use them as stepping stones to propel your business to new heights. Remember, everyone starts as a beginner, and the journey is more important than the destination. So, keep pushing forward, learning, and growing, and you'll achieve your goals. It's all part of the beautiful journey of building a successful music business. For Private Business Coaching, join here: https://www.ashleejyoung.com/private-business-coaching-with-ashleeGet in touch with me via: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ashleeyoungmusicstudio/ My free Facebook community for piano players: Casual to Confident Piano Player | FacebookSubscribe to the YouTube channel:

There's a significant difference between simply putting something out online and creating compelling content that converts, engages your audience, and attracts potential customers. In this episode, we'll explore a strategy to make your content more compelling and effective. The Foundation: Selecting Your Content TypeTo start with this hack, the first decision you need to make is selecting one specific type of content. This choice should remain consistent for at least a month. This consistency allows you to develop your content creation skills effectively. Here are some content types to consider:Blog PostsEmails to Your SubscribersInstagram ReelsYouTube VideosFacebook PostsTikTok VideosEducational TutorialsChoose the one that best suits your style and audience. The goal is to become proficient in creating one content type before diversifying.Content Categories: Educational vs. EntertainmentWithin the world of content creation, there are different categories to explore. For this hack, we'll focus on two significant categories: Educational and Entertainment. These two categories create a clear distinction, allowing you to tailor your content effectively.Educational: You provide valuable insights, knowledge, and expertise on a particular topic. Your content aims to educate and inform your audience.Entertainment: Your content aims to engage and entertain your audience through humor, relatable stories, or engaging visuals. While some creators focus exclusively on one category, I recommend diversifying your content creation to appeal to a broader audience.Selecting Your TopicNow, choose a topic you're passionate about or believe strongly in. This topic will serve as the basis for your content for the month. For instance, if you're a piano teacher, you might choose "Rhythm" as your topic. Your goal is to create content around this theme that's either educational or entertaining. The Hack: Creating Compelling ContentOnce you've made these initial decisions, it's time to put the hack into action. Here's a step-by-step guide:Choose Your Platform: Stick with one platform for at least a month. Whether it's Instagram Reels, YouTube, or another channel, this consistency will help you improve your content creation skills.Select Your Content Category: Decide if you want to create educational or entertainment content for the month. This choice guides your content's tone and style.Topic Selection: Use your chosen topic as the core theme for your content. In our example, if you're focusing on "Rhythm," your content for the month should revolve around this subject.Create Regular Content: Commit to creating content consistently. Whether it's daily, weekly, or a few times a month, practice is key. Regular practice will help you improve your content creation skills significantly.Include a Call to Action (CTA): Ensure your content includes a clear call to action. This could be to comment, like, share, sign up for a free resource, or make a purchase. The CTA guides your audience on what to do...

When you take on new challenges, whether it's hosting a free event or launching a new product, you learn valuable lessons along the way. In this podcast, we'll delve into six key takeaways from my personal experience launching products/events. These takeaways are not only applicable to those in the music education industry but also to anyone looking to grow their business effectively. The Power of EnergyThe first takeaway is all about energy – specifically, the energy I put into events. The excitement and energy levels tend to fluctuate during the different phases of launching a new project. Initially, the creative process fills me with enthusiasm, but as the time comes to promote or sell it, I find myself feeling negative or disheartened. I encourage you to examine your own energy when promoting new ideas or products. I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive mindset throughout the entire process.Don't Give Up EasilyThe second takeaway is a reminder not to give up after just one attempt. With Piano Practice Lab I've hosted three times. After the first event, only one person joined. I could have easily given up. However, we need to be persistent. Real growth and success often require multiple attempts, learning from each one and refining your approach. Instead of quitting, ask yourself what can be improved and try again.Communicate ValueThe third takeaway revolves around effectively communicating the value of your offerings to your customers. I advise against simply listing features or what you believe is essential. Instead, put yourself in your customers' shoes and explain how your product or service benefits them. Help them see why it's valuable and how it can address their needs or problems. By focusing on the customer's perspective, you'll be more convincing and engaging.Be ConvictedBelief in what you're promoting is crucial. My fourth takeaway emphasizes the importance of conviction. If you don't genuinely believe in your product or service, it will be challenging to convey its value to others. Your energy and enthusiasm should reflect your strong belief in what you're offering. Conviction can be a powerful tool in sales and marketing.Implement Repeatable SystemsMy fifth takeaway introduces the concept of repeatable systems. I want to highlight the benefits of creating organized and repeatable processes for promoting and running events or products. By doing so, you save time and effort in the long run, as you won't have to reinvent the wheel each time. Having a structured system in place streamlines your business operations and ensures consistency.Capture DataThe final takeaway emphasizes the value of data. I encourage businesses to capture data, such as customer behavior, engagement rates, and feedback. By analyzing this information, you gain valuable insights that can inform your decision-making and strategy. It helps you make informed choices based on facts rather than emotions, ultimately leading to better outcomes.Hosting a free event like Piano Practice Lab has provided me with valuable business insights. These six takeaways – focusing on energy, perseverance, effective communication, conviction, repeatable systems, and data capture – can benefit any business owner looking to grow and

Stick with me, and you'll leave feeling inspired.Mindset MattersBefore we dive into the tips, let's emphasize the importance of the mindset piece. While practical knowledge and skills are essential, your mindset is a daily practice. It's about embracing the right beliefs and actively working on becoming the person you want to be. Your business growth is a reflection of your personal growth, so nurturing a positive mindset is a lifelong journey.Tip 1: Believe in Your WorthinessThe first and most fundamental tip is to believe in your worthiness. You are inherently worthy of your desires, whether it's a better life, a thriving business, or more freedom in your schedule. Many people struggle with believing they deserve success. This belief in your own worthiness is the foundation upon which you build your journey. Remember, you are worthy simply because you are.Tip 2: Stop Asking for PermissionStop seeking external validation or permission to pursue your dreams. You don't need someone else's approval to take action. Waiting for permission can hold you back from making progress. Give yourself permission to go after what you want, and know that you have the power to make your dreams a reality.Tip 3: Believe in What You DoBelieve in your products or services so strongly that selling them doesn't feel icky. If you genuinely believe that what you offer can positively impact people's lives, selling becomes a way to share value, not a transaction. When you are confident in the value you provide, sales will no longer feel uncomfortable.ConclusionYour journey to success is influenced by your mindset, your beliefs, and your ability to overcome mental roadblocks. By adopting these three tips – believing in your worthiness, stopping the need for external permission, and believing in what you do – you can build a winning mindset. Remember, you are worthy, you have the power, and you offer value that can make the world a better place.Let me know if you found this episode helpful and if you'd like to hear the second part, where I delve into practical strategies for moving forward.
