EP 22 is now live and we had the honour of speaking with one of if not the most successful prep coach in the UK, owner of @team_procoach , head coach and educator, Calum Raistrick. We would hope he needs very little introduction at this stage! This conversation was one we truly thought needed to be had and with Calum's extensive experience coaching athletes at all levels, from grass roots, to Olympia qualified athletes, we could think of nobody better to discuss the intricacies of the athlete mindset. This discussion was not limited to the bikini division alone and instead captured all athletes, and Calum provided an enormous amount of value which we know will serve athletes at any level and in any division. We cover: - Calum's background, where he began coaching, how that transformed specifically into physique development and how his environment contributed to the coach he is today;- The importance of distinguishing between internal and external pressures and how to manage those as an athlete;- Managing athlete disappointment around placings, the pressures of maintaining performance to keep up appearances, how that impacts his clients and him as a coach;- Supporting clients with fluctuating mindsets, bearing the weight of that burden for the client, providing support and sharing the pressure;- Self doubt, are the pros as bullet proof as they might seem?- Amateur vs Pro mindsets, is there a distinct difference? How does that level of support change subject to where in the process the athlete is?;- Stress and peak week, mitigating pressure leading into a show, preserving the look and ensuring the athlete steps on stage fully prepared, mentally and physically… And so much more.As an athlete in a subjective sport, we are challenged physically. But the mental battle is often the difference between achieving our goals, or running for the back door.Calum has armoured us as hosts and athletes, with so many tools in such a short discussion and we couldn't wait to share this with you all. You can find Calum on Instagram at @calum_teamprocoach @team_procoach and keep up with him and his athletes journeys on YouTube! As always, don't forget to like, follow/subscribe and let us know your thoughts.Make sure you keep up with us on social media for previews and details about upcoming guest speakers.Instagram: @thebackstagebikinipodcastHosts: @gracemannion_ | @jadeleahegartyAvailable on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Youtube and Amazon Music.

Today I am excited to be joined by James Sutton, Lead Educator in Exercise Mechanics at The Muscle Mentors, industry leaders in physique coaching and education. James is a trainer of trainers, a mentor for many PT's in the industry with an incredible amount of time & experience under his belt. In fact, James worked alongside Calum Raistrick at M10 in Nottingham, where James actually mentored Calum in Cal's early years as a coach, which speaks volumes for James knowledge and experience, including his role as lead educator and head of coaching at M10 before joining the Muscle Mentors. James epitomises the true physique & exercise professional, as one of the very few coaches in the UK who has obtained Mastery level with the Resistance Training Specialist created by Tom Purvis. I wanted to do something a little different for todays podcast with James. He's mostly invited onto podcasts to talk about exercise mechanics nowadays, which we'll definitely touch on, however James has so much experience and insight across the board which I was very keen to tap into during our discussion. So grab a coffee and enjoy what is sure to be an insightful episode. Thanks, please comment, like and subscribe! Today I have the pleasure of being joined by Calum Raistrick who is an Online Coach, Educator, and Co-Founder of The Muscle Mentors. We discuss setting yourself up for a successful contest prep as a female athlete from a health perspective, and cover the following: - What blood tests would it be useful to consider getting done prior to a contest prep and why? - If someone had blood test results that came back outside of the normal range, would you prefer to hold off on prep until these markers were back within a normal range? - How long would you wait until re testing after attempts to correct any results that were out of range? - Is it fairly common for creatinine levels to be elevated in resistance trained individuals and if so why? - If a female is on hormonal birth control, is it still worth looking into hormone levels or not? & why? - Is there any benefit to doing IV over finger prick? - We know that competitors are not in an optimal position from a health perspective post show. How long would you wait until getting any bloods done with clients in this scenario? - what other health markers/measurements would you consider tracking prior to starting a contest prep with an individual? - and why? - what would you say are your top 5 habits you would recommend for an individual to help optimise their health? - Are there any supplements on a general level that people might consider which are commonly beneficial from a health perspective? If you have any further or more specific questions on this topic please don't hesitate to drop myself or Cal a direct message on Instagram or leave a comment down below, and I can always go through things in more detail. If you do enjoy the content on the female fitness podcast it would mean the world if you could like and subscribe, and share that you're listening on your Instagram story.☺️ As always, thank you so much for listening.
