Rialacháin nua maidir leis an mbulaí ollmhór sínithe. Rural and Community Development Minister Heather Humphreys has signed new regulations that will ban XL bully (or giant bully) dogs in this State. Tá an tAire Forbartha Tuaithe agus Pobail Heather Humphreys tar éis rialacháin nua a shíniú a chuirfeas cosc ar mhadraí den phór bulaí XL (nó bulaí ollmhór) sa Stát seo. It will be a two stage process. Próiseas dhá chéim a bheas ann. From next Tuesday, October 1, it will not be allowed to import, breed, sell or give to another person a giant bull. Ón Máirt seo chugainn, 1 Deireadh Fómhair, ní bheidh cead bulaí ollmhór a iompórtáil, a phórú, a dhíol ná a thabhairt do dhuine eile. From 1 February 2025, a person without an exemption certificate would not be allowed to have a giant bully. Ón 1 Feabhra 2025, ní bheadh cead bulaí ollmhór a bheith ag duine gan teastas díolúine. If these regulations are not met, the dogs can be captured and killed. Mura gcomhlíonfar na rialacháin sin, is féidir na madraí a ghabháil agus a bhású. Local authorities are responsible for issuing exemption certificates but dogs must first be licensed and clipped and microchipped. Is iad na húdáráis áitiúla a bheas freagrach as teastais díolúine a lamháil ach ní mór do mhadraí a bheith ceadúnaithe agus gearrtha agus micrishlis a bheith iontu i dtosach. The XL bully is already completely banned in the North and Britain and Minister Humphreys believes that this State should join them. Tá cosc iomlán ar an mbulaí XL cheana féin sa Tuaisceart agus sa Bhreatain agus creideann an tAire Humphreys gur cheart don Stát seo a bheith ar aon bhuille leo. The safety of the public is her biggest concern, she said, especially in light of the recent attacks by massive bullies on people in this country. Sábháilteacht an phobail is mó is cás léi, a dúirt sí, go háirithe i bhfianaise ionsaithe a rinne bulaithe ollmhóra ar dhaoine sa tír seo le gairid. A 23-year-old woman, Nicole Morey, died after being attacked by a massive bully at her home in Fedamare in Co Limerick at the beginning of the summer. Bhásaigh bean 23 bliain d'aois, Nicole Morey, tar éis do bhulaí ollmhór í a ionsaí ina teach cónaithe i bhFeadamair i gCo Luimnigh i dtús an tsamhraidh. Eleven days ago, a man was injured when one of those dogs grabbed him in north Dublin. Aon lá dhéag ó shin, gortaíodh fear nuair a rug ceann de na madraí sin air i dtuaisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath. Last month, a one-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was attacked by a huge bully in Co Kerry. An mhí seo caite, gortaíodh go dona cailín beag bliain d'aois nuair a thug bulaí ollmhór fogha fúithi i gCo Chiarraí. In November 2022, a young boy, Alejandro Mizsan, was seriously injured when he was attacked by a huge bully while playing with his friends in a park in Enniscorthy in Co Wexford. I mí na Samhna 2022, bhain drochghortuithe do bhuachaill óg, Alejandro Mizsan, nuair a d'ionsaigh bulaí ollmhór é agus é ag súgradh lena chairde i bpáirc in Inis Córthaidh i gCo Loch Garman. The new law, however, is a bitter drink for people with massive bullies and for animal welfare organizations. Is searbh an deoch í an dlí nua, áfach, do dhaoine a bhfuil bulaithe ollmhóra acu agus d'eagraíochtaí cúraim ainmhithe leis. Yesterday, a group of them marched as far as Dáil Éireann demanding that the new regulations be amended. Inné, mháirseáil grúpa díobh chomh fada le Dáil Éireann agus iad ag éileamh na rialacháin nua a leasú. Supporting them are Chris Andrews from Sinn Féin and Neasa Hourigan from the Green Party. The company stated: “The number of newborn babies in China has declined sharply from some 18 million per year in 2016 to fewer than nine million projected in 2023.”So, while the falling birth rate in China has led to a decision to close a major employer in Limerick, Beijing correspondent Denis Staunton explains it also has massive implications globally and for China itself as the country tries to boost birth rates and reverse the “one child policy” implemented for 35 years. Milliún euro breise do bhean a tholg droch-ghalar i siopa peataí. In the High Court, a 34-year-old woman who claimed to have contracted a rare disease of a parrot in the pet store where she worked fourteen years ago was allowed to pay an extra million euros. San Ard-Chúirt, tugadh cead milliún euro breise a íoc le bean 34 bliain d'aois a mhaígh gur tholg sí galar neamhchoitianta ó phearóid sa siopa peataí ina raibh sí ag obair ceithre bliana déag ó shin. Patricia Ingle, from Ballinacor, Co Limerick, is severely disabled and left without limb function due to chlamydia psittacosis, an infection that is spread in the air from birds to humans. Tá Patricia Ingle, as Béal Átha na Cora, Co Luimnigh, go mór faoi mhíchumas agus í fágtha gan lúth na ngéag de bharr an ghalair chlamydia psittacosis, ionfhabhtú a scaiptear san aer ó éin go daoine. She was previously awarded € 15.5 million in compensation. Lamháladh cúiteamh €15.5 milliún di roimhe seo. She is being paid the money in installments and has received six payments to date. Tá an t-airgead á íoc léi ina thráthchodanna agus tá sé cinn d'íocaíochtaí faighte aici go nuige seo. Patricia Ingle's case will come before the High Court again next year, at which time her needs will be further assessed. Tiocfaidh cás Patricia Ingle os comhair na hArd-Chúirte arís an bhliain seo chugainn, tráth a dhéanfar measúnú eile ar a riachtanais. She claimed she contracted chlamydia psittacosis from a cocktail parrot while working in a pet shop on Ennis Road in Limerick in 2008 and that her case had been mismanaged by the Health Service Executive since she was hospitalized. Mhaígh sí gur tholg sí chlamydia psittacosis ó phearóid cocaitíle nuair a bhí sí ag obair i siopa peataí ar Bhóthar na hInse i Luimneach sa bhliain 2008 agus go ndearna Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte míbhainistiú ar a cás ón uair a cuireadh in ospidéal í. Patricia Ingle fell ill on 12 August 2008 and was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital. D'éirigh Patricia Ingle an-tinn ar an 12 Lúnasa 2008 agus tugadh í go dtí an tOspidéal Réigiúnach i Luimneach. Medical staff told her to relax and she was sent home. Dúirt lucht leighis léi a scíth a dhéanamh agus cuireadh abhaile í. She was hospitalized again on September 1, but two days later lost her voice and limb strength. Cuireadh san ospidéal arís í ar an 1 Meán Fómhair, ach dha lá ina dhiaidh sin bhí a glór agus lúth na ngéag caillte aici. He was diagnosed with irreversible serious damage to his brain. Deimhníodh go raibh dochar tromchúiseach nach bhféadfaí a leigheas déanta dá hinchinn. She sued the pet shopkeeper and the Health Service Executive. Chuir sí an dlí ar lucht an tsiopa peataí agus ar Fheidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte. Both parties settled the case but did not accept liability. Shocraigh an dá dhream sin an cás ach níor ghlac siad le dliteanas.

The Posterity Podcast is edited and presented by Nigel Dugdale. "In The Posterity Podcast, I will introduce you to a diverse range of voices from across many sectors in Limerick society. Some you will know, others maybe not so much. "I hope this podcast will capture the voices of those who see Limerick as home, I hope to get an understanding of what makes them tick and to discover their hopes and dreams for Limerick at a time when so much opportunity is in our grasp. "The official definition of posterity relates to all future generations of people. These people of the future could be your children, your grandchildren or great grandchildren, or any people born after you. "So every decision we make today, be it by those in power, in business circles, or in community development will affect the lives of those coming behind us. "This podcast will tell people stories, capture their voices for posterity and delve into the ideas ambition and hopes that they have as we prepare for and sow the seeds for the Limerick of tomorrow. "I hope you join me on this journey. I hope you enjoy listening to the stories you hear and most of all, I hope some of what you hear will inspire you. "Do get in contact with me if you have any suggestions for future guests, questions I might ask or just general feedback on the show. Contact Nigel Dugdale on Twitter: @limerickcitybiz
