Forced to leave her native Hungary by the 1956 suppression of the Hungarian Uprising, Ágota Kristóf took up residence in Switzerland and began writing in French. Most famous for her Notebook Trilogy – ‘A book through which I discovered what kind of person I really want to be' (Slavoj Žižek) – her short stories, now available for the first time in English as the Penguin Classic volume I Don't Care (tr. Chris Andrews), have been described by Max Porter as ‘pure genius'. The Department of Agriculture is being urged to intervene in an instance of dogs being kept in conditions described as "unacceptable", "cruel" and "heartbreaking in south-east Clare. It's after a video has circulated depicting four young greyhounds in a cramped space at a premises in Parteen. The animals can be seen wearing "anti-bark" muzzles which prevent them from drinking and panting as well as from barking. Speaking in the Seanad, Sinn Féin Senator Chris Andrews says action must be taken against the owner.

In this episode of Momus: The Podcast, Lauren Wetmore speaks with Line Ajan, a Franco-Syrian curator and translator and member of the editorial, artistic, and curatorial collective Qalqalah. The conversation unfolds through a reading of Iranian artist Ashkan Sepahvand's text “Showing Without Revealing,” written for the 2017 exhibition he curated at Berlin's Schwules Museum, which presented a decolonial perspective on institutional histories of homosexuality. Ajan discusses translating Sepahvand's text into French with Qalqalah, whose members work across English, French, and Arabic. Reflecting on the process, she considers translation as a collaborative and situated practice and speaks about her own work across languages shaped by different colonial histories.
