The first edition of PHANTASYMIX in 2025 arrives courtesy of London's much-loved Ariane V, a DJ and radio host who represents a new vanguard of generous selectors with an audible appreciation for dance music with depth and character. Beginning with a three-year stint building her taste and record collection from behind the counter at Phonica Records, Ariane's knowledge and instincts for a great record have only deepened in the decade since. as exemplified not only by a tour schedule that has taken from London to Paris, Berlin and Barcelona, but weekly to Peckham, where her previous residency for Balaami FM saw her sharing the decks and the mic in conversation with DJs including Wallace, Colleen Cosmo Murphy, Mr. Ho and Moxie. Taking keen cue from Phantasy's undercurrent of a ‘psychedelic sensibility', Ariane V's PHANTASYMIX blends the likes of Prince, CC:DISCO, Josh Caffe, Hardway Bros and more. Photo credit: Alex Rimmer

Broadcaster, club DJ, compiler, Loft baby and founder of Classic Album Sundays. Colleen Cosmo Murphy is all of these things. We chat with her about all of the above (and then some).
Our second premiere of the day is an acid-soaked rework of Bon Voyag's High Power from Manchester-born producer Andrew Sant. The pumping refix is made specifically for the early hours, as it comes loaded with punchy drums, menacing synth lines, and 90's rave energy. Following the epic Bon Voyage 2023 rework of ‘High Power', F*CLR presents part 2 courtesy of Australian via Manchester House fanatic Andrew Sant. Andrew says: “I was listening to a Colleen Cosmo Murphy mix on YouTube and she played the dub mix of ‘Makin Music' by Gary's Gang. The track really captured my attention and I wanted to try and make something in a similar vein – kind of futuristic electronic disco. So, I developed an instrumental, led by a driving arpeggio. I felt the track needed a vocal hook and as if by magic ‘High Power' fell from the sky”. Mancunian DJ, producer and remixer Andrew Sant now resides in Adelaide, Australia. The founder of The Sweet Fantastic, releasing ‘Do It To The Music' last year on F*CLR, Andrew has also released and remixed on labels such as 3 AM Recordings, Tri-Circle, Tarantic, Kolour Open Bar, and Playmore. His career has taken him around the globe from Sankey's Soap and the Warehouse Project, Manchester, The Bomb, Nottingham, Miss Moneypenny's at BoHo, Ibiza. The second edition of the ‘High Power' reworks sees Andrew Sant turn his focus directly to the dancefloor, capturing the essence of 90's rave with a more contemporary and pulsating approach. Vintage-style acid squelches play off sinister synth hooks and quivering bass grooves for a pumping slice of dancefloor ecstasy. Andrew Sant remains thoroughly faithful to the high-powered energy of the original while lacing his rework with an extra dose of hazy rave energy. Can someone explain to me where we are with the coronavirus? Am I the only one utterly confused? CDC mask guidance flip-flops, some states are preventing businesses and schools from requiring mask-wearing, and still we have rapidly increasing infection rates. What are Americans supposed to do? We'll also be discussing the reopening of nightlife with my guest and international DJ, Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy. As for the most irritating of all forms of communication – autodials, roboscammers, fraud calls…whatever you wanna call …them I want them out of my life!
From what is arguably one of the most arresting opening lines on a debut album, to the mournful romanticism of its final track, Patti Smith's Horses is one of the most significant records in American music history. Just like the gritty downtown New York scene from which it sprang, Horses is marked by a sense of urgency and liberation. In this instalment of “This Woman's Work,” Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy is joined by Lenny Kaye and KT Tunstall to explain how the word freedom defines the album through and through: the social and sexual freedom of the era, the artistic freedom born of a city in crisis, and the freedom of rock 'n' roll. Gilles Peterson speaks with CAS founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy about the influence of Sun Ra and why he believes “Sun Ra was the man, the ultimate artist for any vinyl collector”. Sun Ra was a one-off in the annals of jazz. As author Robert L. Campbell describes, “He claimed to be the last of the swing band leaders, yet dosed classic songs with LSD. He wrote poetry about the “coming space age” and claimed to be a citizen of Saturn. He dressed himself and his band in gold- lame and lectured on the Creator’s message to the cruel and deceitful Earthman. He named himself after an Egyptian God. Was this guy for real? Sun Ra was very much for real.” Read more about your favourite albums here: https://classicalbumsundays.com/

Our latest CAS Worldwide sees Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy digging deep into David Bowie Heroes. Although it was the second instalment of David Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy, “Heroes” was in fact the only album to be written and recorded entirely within the city. The multi-instrumentalist Bowie was joined by many of the same musicians who had worked on his previous album, Low, including guitarist Carlos Alomar, drummer Dennis Davis, and bassist George Murray, and a similar rhythmic-rock spark ignites the group once again. Brian Eno took a place behind the keyboard, setting up his unique brand of studio know-how and synth-science in contrast to the more traditional interplay of the rhythm section. Following female homosexuality and bisexuality throughout popular music, Women of Atlantic host Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy builds to singer-songwriter Hayley Kiyoko as one of the next to carry on this critical viewpoint. Kiyoko talks growing up as a gay woman, presenting previously unseen stories in her music videos, and reveals how she was finally able to write a song like “He’ll Never Love You (HNLY).”Respect: The Women of Atlantic is a special series on What’d I Say. Murphy is the founder of Classic Album Sundays.
Kathy Sledge, founding member of Sister Sledge, joins to discuss the legendary group's beginnings, the legacy of disco, and more."Respect: The Women of Atlantic" is a special series on What’d I Say. It’s hosted by Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy, founder of Classic Album Sundays.
For a while, ABIR’s songwriting didn’t quite match her reality. Not having been in one, she was "writing these heartbreaking songs as if I'd been in a 10-year relationship.”But as she rose through the NYC pop scene, and upon discovery by Atlantic Records in an opening show slot, it’s been an authentic adjustment. Hearing her story will illustrate that progression, while also letting you in on her early attachment to Keyshia Cole, and explaining why she decided on “MINT” for her 2018 EP title. Simply put, you’ll meet a rising creative at peace with herself, along with the life experiences she now has to draw upon."Respect: The Women of Atlantic" is a special series on What’d I Say. It’s hosted by Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy, founder of Classic Album Sundays.

Times, Nick Kent's 1978 encounter with Elvis Costello, and Sean O'Hagan's account of his 1998 trip to Belfast with U2. Classic Album Sundays founder and BBC Radio 6 Music host Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy is joined by elbow’s Guy Garvey to take a look at their brand new album Giants of All Sizes in the Elgar Room at Royal Albert Hall. It is a record that could only have been made in the 21st Century.

The late David Mancuso (1944–2016), an introverted hippie who grew up in an upstate New York orphanage, wasn't quite who you’d imagine running the most influential club night in history. But in a succession of downtown Manhattan spaces outfitted with audiophile soundsystems and innumerable balloons, Mancuso hosted a safe space for many marginalized communities that was musically way ahead of the curve. On this episode, we hear from François K., Tim Lawrence, Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy, Douglas Sherman
Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy explores the city of Edinburgh. Having already delved into Sheffield through the eyes of Human League’s Travelogue album, Liverpool and The Teardrop Explodes’ Kilimanjaro, and Manchester with New Order’s Power, Corruption and Lies, we’re now heading further north to the capital city of Scotland; a city of science and engineering, home of one of the biggest events in the cultural calendar, and a city with an incredibly varied history stretching back thousands of years…Edinburgh. We’re looking at an album that links the old with the new, the traditional with the electronic, and it’s Martyn Bennett’s Bothy Culture. Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, fresh from looking at Sheffield and The Human League’s Travelogue album, now turns her attention across the Peaks to one of the UK’s most important musical cities; Liverpool. Focusing on The Teardrop Explodes Kilimanjaro album, we talk to Julian Cope about how he made the album, why he moved to Liverpool, and why he always traveled to the studio on an invisible horse. Colleen also looks at how Liverpool and Psych are inextricably linked, the importance of Soul Music to the area, how the nightclub Eric’s and record shop Probe inspired a scene, and Liverpool’s isolation from the rest of the country has helped create a outlook like no other.
