Back in 1974, Earl Slick was a 22-year old jobbing session guitarist fast developing a reputation for his supple, searing style and versatility in all idioms. Hired by Bowie to join his Diamond Dogs tour, Slick then had to suddenly pivot from apocalypto-rock to sleek Philly soul at a moment's notice - but acquitted himself so well, he was invited to play on tracks destined for Young Americans before forming the core band, alongside Carlos Alomar, Dennis Davis, George Murray and Roy Bittan to cut the extraordinary Station to Station, in LA, during October 1975. Bringing his charismatic flair to the sessions, Slick rose each time to Bowie's demands for an esoteric sonic palette, turning in one bravura performance after another despite, by his own admission, almost matching Bowie's ridiculous drug consumption levels at the time. Although his boss's directions could be at times gnomic - Bowie instructed him on one occasion to simply play a Chuck Berry riff repeatedly throughout a track - the pair sparked off each other, forging a deep bond. Despite a contretemps between Bowie's management and Slick at the end of the sessions, Earl returned to the Bowie band in 1983 for Serious Moonlight and then again during the early 2000s, when he became again, a key member of the group, up to The Next Day.  Today, Station to Station stands out as one of Bowie's finest records, the pivot from Young Americans' funk and soul to the electronic abstractions and experimental textures which would emerge fully with Low. Despite the frenzied sessions, the album's six tracks are each mini-masterpieces. In this episode, the first of two devoted to the album, we take a leisurely stroll down memory lane and begin with Earl's reminiscences of pre-Beatles America, his first audition for Bowie and Visconti, bafflement at the Philly soul era, meeting and forgetting (and then meeting again) John Lennon, and the intense sessions that made up the first side of Station to Station. Thanks to Earl, Oliver and of course the regal Tank for all their time and help in assembling this episode and as ever, please do let me know what you think of our chat and share this podcast far and wide! Joe Simon- Come Back Home (1974) I have to play you a Joe Simon song that was used as a sample for a VERY famous Hip Hop song. Not many people know.  Helen Reddy - I Am Woman (1971) The original, superior (to my ears) version. She has appeared on my show singing in ads for cigarettes in Australia, as well as later misses like "Handsome Dudes." Barbara, The Grey Witch - Witch's Love Song (1971) Obituary Barbara Roehrs, also known as Barbara the Gray Witch of Raven House, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Healthwin in South Bend, IN, after suffering the long-term effects of a stroke. She was born Barbara Ann Hostetler on May 9, 1944, in South Bend. She was the youngest child to John and Anna May Hostetler, both of whom preceded her in death. Barbara was a talented and accomplished artist. She was a larger-than-life personality and public figure. She hosted a U93 radio show and appeared yearly at the Niles Haunted House. She was a beloved friend and counselor to many and had a large and loyal following. She was an animal lover. She loved spending time with her dogs – especially her beloved ‘familiar,' Gabby. She also loved back road adventures in her Volkswagen Beetle, meeting new people, and seeing new places. She loved fishing and having a good time. The family would like to extend a thank-you to the Heart to Heart Hospice team and the healthcare workers at Healthwin for caring for Barbara so well.   So for my money, the best band of the 1965-1980 period was the band that David Bowie assembled for his Station To Station/Low/"Heroes"/Lodger/Stage phase. They were loose and tight. Funky and capable. With him as a singer, there's no way the band could lose. But these dudes were special. Carlos Alomar, Dennis Davis, and George Murray. Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew functioned at a right-angle in the proceedings, but that, too, made the ensemble special. I rank them higher than Led Zeppelin for their harmonies, Bowie's lyrics, and just the bravery. Higher (ever so slightly) than The Beatles for their live performances, and the fact that their music was really one guy showing up with an unfinished idea and the band using the ideas as clay. They could jam but they never recorded anything that wasn't precise and good fun.  David Bowie - Fashion (1980) David Bowie - It's No Game (1980) David Bowie • Station To Station (Live) (1978) Children of the Night - Dracula's Undying Love (1976) This collection of 1970's "Rock & Roll" songs tells the story of a big party at Count Dracula's house. The between-song skits have a pretty cut-rate vibe throughout (Dracula sounds remarkably like Dan Ackroyd doing his SNL Yortuk Festrunk "Wild & Crazy Guy" character, The Mummy introduces himself with the lyrics to the Bob McFadden & Dor single "The Mummy")... Count Lorry & The Biters - Frankenstein Stomp (1974) David Bowie - “Heroes” (Live) (1978) Electric Food - Nosferatu (1970) German heavy prog rock band which included all Lucifer's Friend musicians except John Lawton. You know who John Lawton was. He was in Les Humphries Singers! Sang their biggest hit, "Mama Loo" and enjoyed a stint with Uriah Heep.  Dick (Ghoulardy) Knight - His Ghoul (1973) By the time this single was released, the name "Ghoulardi" was owned by Storer Broadcasting out of Cleveland, OH. Hence the different name. Go here to read about Ghoulardi, a story that could never happen now. You can see the "T.K. Productions" on the bottom of the label here. Read their story. You wouldn't know it from this but T.K. ended up owning the charts in the late '70s. The part The Bee Gees didn't devour, that is.  Iggy Pop - Sister Midnight (1977) Jimmie John - What Happens When We Die? (1964) Jo Banks and the Soul Train - The Toy Shop Killer (1979)  David Bowie - What In The World (Live) (1978) Johnny Fever - Zombie (1967) Mickey and His Mice - Cracker Jack (1970) Discogs: Wilfred "Mickey" Fields was a saxophonist from the Baltimore area, a local legend who refused to play outside his Baltimore area, although he was invited several times to take the road for tours with many famous bands. He is recognized as one of Baltimore's best-known jazz saxophonists and has mentored many other jazz musicians, including Paul H Brown. Mickey created the "Monday Night Jam Session" at Sportsman's Lounge, allowing many young jazz musicians to perform. He was also known for his constant encouragement of young artists. Fields began his career with the blues jump band The Tilters. As a solo artist, he recorded on Atlantic Records and Groove Merchant. Howard Earl Washington, a Baltimore area jazz drummer, was another member of the Tilters. The Tilters played for the great Ethel Ennis. Fields then recorded several songs with his group "Mickey And His Mice", entitled "Cracker Jack", known as one of the 100 most funky titles ever created and the popular "Little Green Apples". He then recorded an album with the great Richard "Groove" Holmes, for the label Edmar (New Jersey). Fields also played with his talented sister, Shirley Fields, who has been a singer for many years and who has also played an important role in the Baltimore Jazz Company. Monsters - Transylvania Disco Hustle (1977) Produced by the same guy that produced "Dracula's Undying Love." In fact, three of the guys that played on that record played on this!  Screen Idols - Blind Man (1979) Notable for the presence of one Woody Woodmansey, ex-Spiders From Mars drummer. Right after Woody Woodmansey's U-Boat.

In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray bring back former FBI Agent from season three, a show we call, George Murray vol 2. The last time we spoke with George, we spent a good amount of time going through his backstory, from Vietnam through retiring from the FBI. This time we spend almost the entire episode on his FBI background. Alan and Walt start off discussing all the stories hitting the media of late, which were considered false this time last year. So many people's voices were squashed. Alan hopes we all wake up and realize it's better to have more information, not less, especially if the information is wrong. Once George joins, he weighs in on the topic before the interview turns toward his career. George Murray vol 2 begins with a seventh grader who met an agent and decided that was going to be his career. After college and a stint serving in Vietnam, George went to Quantico and became a field agent. Alan and Walt ask about the changes happening in the Bureau at the time, including the start of Behavioral Sciences. This led to a discussion of Wayne Williams and the Atlanta Child Murders. George was actually part of the overall surveillance team. During that time, an incident occurred where a mental health patient stopped taking his meds and decided to break into the building with the FBI and hold 9 agents hostage. A SWAT team eventually had to take him down. The conversation rolls into the recent Colonial Pipeline issue with Russian hackers and how the FBI was able to recover significant funds. Alan and George then share some information about the pipeline situation, leading Alan to ask about politics in the Bureau. After that, Alan and Walt begin to discuss some of the undercover work and arrests across George's career. This leads Alan to remind the audience he is in awe of the vast majority of people working in law enforcement. Alan brings up the latest cyber sting regarding the ANOM service, which netted hundreds of arrests. As the interview winds down, Walt asks about George ever firing his gun and about asking if young people should want to work for the FBI. Alan jumps in with his worry of how law enforcement is getting so much negative press that even police-friendly communities are seeing hiring shortages. George hopes police will get back to where they were and society can move forward with law and order. Then the hosts let him go before finishing the remaining segments of the show, with Walt's horrible movie review, crazy news items and the Entertainment Segment. WATCHING Walt has finished the cartoon, Invincible, on Netflix. Though Alan saved spoilers, they both agree there is one really big unanswered question. But, they both plan to watch season two. Walt like the foreign film, True Crimes, playing of Tubi and Vudu. Finally, he caught, Major Events of WWII in Color and loved it. Alan admitted with his Father-in-Law visiting, they have been watching a lot of movies. Alan saw, Delirious, with John Candy. It was okay. Then he watched Back to the Future 1 and 2 with high praise for the much loved films. He loved re-watching, Gran Tarino, with Clint Eastwood. Then on YouTube, Alan watches, The Daily Doug, The Charismatic Voice, Ashleigh Burton, Popcorn in Bed, Nerd of the Rings, Listening In and Rick Beato's show, What Makes this Song Great? In Rick's recent episode he broke down Pink Floyd's, "Comfortably Numb." READING Alan didn't have anything to report. Walt was re-reading, "Propaganda," by Edward Bernays from 1928. He is also still reading, "The Fifty-Year Mission: The First 25 Years," about the creation of the original Star Trek show. LISTENING Walt's episodes of Office Space Minute have dropped and he's been listening to that excellent podcast breaking the film down a minute at a time. He is also listening to Camp Hell: Anneewakee and In the Red Clay. Alan continues to get weekly episodes on the 60MW Podcast. He is back to listening to The Indiana Jones Minute, back after a LONG hiatus. Finally, he's been playing score from The Lord of the Rings almost every night.

DAVIDBOWIE: ALBUMTOALBUM

Welcome back to Albumto album with guest Bowie obsessive Adam Buxton!  Scary Monsters is a milestone album. It is one I have long wanted to tackle here and I have quite a few thoughts about it. Here are a few of them.  David Bowie entered 1980 restless for change and a new sense of purpose. The generally lukewarm reaction to his previous album Lodger clearly prompted an internal audit and the 33-year old artist, on the move from Europe and now soaking up the energy of New York city, felt the time had come to harness the spirit of adventure and experimentation of the ‘Berlin’ era with a scaffold of tough, catchy rock.    The songs, constructed by the dream team core combo of producer Tony Visconti, guitarist Carlos Alomar, bassist George Murray and drummer Dennis Davis, came together fast. Gone were the conceptual hi-jinks of the Eno era and instead, Bowie crafted these tracks with painterly care and attention. Each has a dynamic chiaroscuro, silhouettes and shadows are everywhere. Bowie’s interest in Expressionism and surrealism filters through these songs that tease the listener, before giving up their charms with sluttish abandon.    Bowie recorded the album at a brisk clip in spring 1980, working hard and fast at the New York Power Station studios with his band and assorted guest musicians including left field guitarists Chuck Hammer and Robert Fripp, both of whom left their distinctive fingerprints on the record. The former, with his customised guitar-synths, aroused Bowie with talk of “guitarchitecture”, the latter, a veteran of strange spontaneous sessions for Heroes and Lodger, scrawled atonic graffiti phrases across the title track, Its No Game, Fashion and so on, while a delighted Bowie would give gnomic instructions, “Play like Ritchie Blackmore, without sounding like Ritchie Blackmore!”   The lyrical content of the album gives us a fascinating insight within the author’s brain. Clear-headed, relatively sober and facing down the barrel of his 30s (many messianic men feel weird at 33, especially those of self-mythologising bent) and for the first time, seeing the results of his influences on a new wave of foppish romantics. His constituency had always been in the margins of the mainstream, but now, in the sulphurous afterburn of punk, it seemed as if his legacy was everywhere. From the so-called Blitz kids, some of whom he rather smartly re-appropriated for use in the Ashes To Ashes video to his swipes and bitchy asides aimed at the younger generation in songs like Teenage Wildlife and Because You’re Young, it seemed as if the unwilling role as older statesman of rock was sitting uncomfortably. His ambivalence to the generation of ‘Blitz kids’ who followed in his wake, was understandable. Bowie had always valued the courage to move on, look ahead and explore. His cadre of imitators that reached a peak around 1978, 1979 - pale, robotic - staccato of delivery and alienated of mien - irritated him, outweighing any personal gratification and flattery.    As Bowie the artist would tend to leg it, on achieving a degree of success and acclaim, Bowie the viable record label investment and going concern was in deep shit, thanks not only to the aftermath of his disastrous mid 70s breakup with avaricious manager Tony DeFries, but generally dismal sales figures. The need to generate serious cash with serious moonlight would dominate the years ahead, leading to questionable artistic decisions and generating much unhappiness for fans, peers, record label and not least, the actor himself.    But that was all still in the future. Looking back, we can mythologise 1980 as being the year that Bowie came of age as a recording artist. The self-referential myth-making wove throughout his year. It can be seen in the small, roughly obscured covers of Low, Heroes and Lodger on the Scary Monsters album artwork, the revisiting of ‘Space Oddity’s  Major Tom in the astonishing ‘Ashes To Ashes’. It’s the howling anguish in opener ‘It’s No Game (Part One) and the resigned indifference of the track’s reprise at the close of the record. The lurking Pierrot of the cover figure, an affectation that stretched back to Bowie’s days in mime with the Lindsay Kemp company, was also something of a marker, closing the blinds on yesterday as a ‘cunt in a clown suit’. And this was the last time the alchemical magic of Alomar, Davis, Murray and Visconti would burn in the crucible of the studio. Shortly after the album was released, on September 17, 1980, Bowie was starring in a successful Broadway run as The Elephant Man, his close friend and inspiration John Lennon would be dead and the actor would return to his Swiss fastness, to plot yet another about-face. From now on, every album featuring Bowie that was released, would be compared to ‘Scary Monsters’, a millstone around its creator’s neck who, despite the decades of artistic, critical and commercial successes and flops to come, would never again quite match its extraordinary moment and magic. In the early '80s, Kid Creole and the Coconuts transcended the NYC dance scene to become something of an oddity nation-wide for a time. Here was lead singer August Darnell in a zoot suit, Coati Mundi dancing around behind marimbas, and three very shapely girls (the aforementioned Coconuts) doing choreography and backing vocals. And the music was fun, audacious, eclectic, and universal, although none of their records sold in big enough quantities to chart in the US (aside from the Billboard Dance Club Songs charts). There was also, in their nascent club-scene incarnation, Lori Eastside on co-lead vocals, but she didn't stick around long enough for the ascension to national fame. But the extant video of the time reveals that she was fantastic. And Carol Coleman was a bass player of noticeable depth, space, and groove. She will get your attention if you see videos of their live shows of the time, even though she barely moves. But her sound reminds me of George Murray, who, as both of you who listen to my show know, is my favorite bass player.  I SUCK at interviewing. But regardless, I interviewed Adriana Kaegi, "Mother Coconut", dancer, singer, songwriter, and an integral part of the band in their original incarnation, up to 1995.  I am not saying that KCatC was a big act, but they were influential. ( 12" Version ) (1983) Coati Mundi - I Say Hey (1983) Boomerang - Boomerang Fanfare/Boomerang (1986)  Aural Exciters - Maladie d'Amour (1979) Between Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band and KCatC, there was this odd disco record. The cover says it was produced by Bob Blank, but August wrote/co-wrote everything with another NYC guy, Ron Rogers, who produced/wrote many disco songs of the time. What a scene it must have been.  Christina - Disco Clone (1980) Written and produced by August Darnell.  Cristina - Jungle Love (1980) Cristina - Ticket To The Tropics (1984) August Darnell had nothing to do with this, but this particular song was co-written by one Doug Fieger of The Knack. You can sort of hear it. The album was produced by Don Was of Was Not Was who also produced records for (deep breath) Ringo Starr, Elton John, The B-52s, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Willy Nelson, etc.  Funkapolitan - As The Time Goes By (1982) Produced by August Darnell Prince - The Sex Of It (198?) Demo version. Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Going Places/In The Jungle (Live) (1981) From "Fresh Fruit In Foreign Places" - The Musical. Recorded at The Ritz in NYC.

In this episode we are joined by George Murray, a Vietnam vet, a retired FBI agent and Walt's dad. We begin with George's days in college in the ROTC program. He trained to become a helicopter pilot and put those skills to use during one tour of duty. One of his more harrowing moments in Vietnam related to crashing his helicopter. After his service, George made a shift to the most prestigious law enforcement agency in the country -- the FBI. He was involved in several undercover operations as well as regular investigations. One of the most well-known was the Atlanta child murders case. Today, George stays busy reading, chatting with colleagues and golfing as much as possible. MOVIES/STREAMING: Walt is watching the High Score documentary on Netflix that Alan recommend a few weeks ago. He highly recommends For Our Eyes Only, a James Bond Documentary on Netflix. He also just started to watch the first season of Utopia. George has been preoccupied with watching the Atlanta Braves in post season play. However, he did recommend the Amazon Prime series, Bosch. Alan is working through season two of Longmier and enjoying the uptick in the pace of the episodes. READING: Walt is continuing his reading of Michael Connelly's, "The Black Echo." George immediately put in a plug for, "I'm Ready to Talk: Vietnam Vets Preserve Their Stories." He also happens to have written three of the chapters in the book. Additionally, he is reading, "A Storm in Flanders," regarding a battle in Flanders in WWI and "The Allies," which dives into the relationships between Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. In this presidential cycle, Alan is covered up with reading news and staying abreast on current events. LISTENING: Walt just started listening to the podcast Norm MacDonald Live and is really enjoying it. George, admittedly new to podcasts, is listening to The Wilder Ride! Alan gave the following suggestions/shout-outs: The Marine Corps Movie Minute, Golden Rage of TV, 60MW Podcast, The Real Queens of Queens, The Bad Cop Bad Cop Show, Geek to Me Radio, BK on the Air Escape Pod Podcast, and Radio Labyrinth. First, a story about the ideal first encounter.    Michael Franks - When She Is Mine (1985) His first album was on the Brut label. WAMPUS DOESN'T SOUND SO BAD NOW, DOES IT??? The players on his albums are pretty much the same studio cats on every yacht rock act's harder-to-play stuff. Chicago, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Dan Lewis, everyone. But it's a testament to that cadre of professionals that they can do something as laid back and open as Franks' music AND Steely Dan. I hear the difference. You do, too, if you listen to this show. But...they ruined Chicago. And for that, I will never forgive David Foster. I LOVE this song. I can even forgive the couplet, "She's a virtuoso in amoroso..." No purist, I.  Manhattan Transfer  -  Walk In Love (1976) Michael Franks - Tiger In The Rain (1979) The Brighter Side Of Darkness - Love Jones (1972) Brighter Side of Darkness was a short-lived American R&B/soul group. They were formed in 1971 at Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois. Their lead singer was 12-year-old Darryl Lamont. "Love Jones" was a #16 hit in the US in December 1972, and was certified gold by the RIAA. They released an album, Love Jones, in 1973. "Love Jones" was parodied as "Basketball Jones" by Cheech and Chong in 1973. The parody was released as a single in August 1973 and reached #15 on the Hot 100. The parody got higher than the original. Oh well, as long as the checks clear. I don't think they all did. They broke up after this.  Manhattan Transfer  - It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference (1976)  This album Coming Out featured Popsicle Toes by Michael Franks. Michael Franks - The Lady Wants To Know (1977) Manhattan Transfer - Chicken Bone Bone (1971) Manhattan Transfer Phase 1 I guess. Wikipedia: Jukin' remained an orphan in the Manhattan Transfer's catalog. Issued on a different label than their future successes, with a different line-up and sound from what became their trademark, Jukin' is not acknowledged on the band's official website, nor have any of its tracks been anthologized on compilations. The revised group re-recorded the track "Java Jive" on the group's next album. It is the re-recorded version, not the version found on Jukin' , that can be found on multiple compilation albums. FOR ALL YOU MANHATTAN TRANSFER PURISTS OUT THERE.  Don Ellis - Excursion Part 2 (1970) Written by the same fellow that wrote "Walk In Love" which you'll recall from earlier in my show.  Don Ellis - Pussy Wiggle Stomp (1970) Jay Graydon on guitar. He produced Manhattan Transfer and played that one-of-a-kind solo on "Peg" by Steely Dan.  Graydon has written over 200 songs. His catalog includes the Grammy winners "Turn Your Love Around" (co-written with Steve Lukather (Toto) and Bill Champlin (Chicago)) as performed by George Benson and "After the Love Has Gone" (co-written with David Foster (who ruined Chicago) and Bill Champlin (who stood by and watched)) as performed by Earth, Wind & Fire, many songs written with and for Al Jarreau (including "Mornin'", "Breakin' Away", "After All", etc.), and several hits with... Manhattan Transfer.    So, Donny Jenczka...I auditioned for your band in 1985. I sang the song "After All". What was wrong with my performance? Why didn't I get into the band?   Mike Sheridan’s Lot - Make Them Understand (1965) Roy Wood's first recorded song.  Michael Franks - Can't Seem to Shake This Rock and Roll (1973) Michael Franks had a strange take on the Rock. To be....frank? HAAHAHAHAHHA LOL    Sick Man of Europe - Mandocello (1972) Cheap Trick before the mighty Robin Zander grabbed the mic from these idiots.  Nature’s Way - Zander and Kent (1973)  Muse - Across The Skies (1970) Cheech and Chong  (featuring Tyrone Shoelaces) - Basketball Jones (1974) Serendipity! George Harrison plays on this. So does Klaus Voorman. My sister had this album. Read the Wiki.  Weldon Irvine - Love Jones (1974) This record got zero stars in the 1981 Rolling Stone Record Guide, so I had to check it out. If you use the RSRG to help inform your purchases, please take care to note the person doing the reviews. There are (were) many, and I think the guy that reviewed Gentle Giant was a big punk fan. Notable on this particular release is my favorite bass player, George Murray, before his stint with David Bowie. I never would have known that without the shitty RS review!  Manhattan Transfer - The Twilight Zone (1979)  Mahogany Rush -  Maxoom (1972) The worst band to be signed to a major label.  Mahogany Rush - Buddy (1972)  In an effort to gain press attention, the original record company created a fictional story that Frank Marino, prior to starting the band, had spent time in a mental institution after taking LSD and was visited by Jimi Hendrix in a vision. This gave him his inspiration to play as he did on the first album which very closely mirrored the style of Jimi Hendrix. By the time the third album, Strange Universe was recorded, this approach to filling the public desire to purchase newer Jimi Hendrix-styled music had been perfected.  Rock and Roll will MESS YOU UP.

The legendary bass player to the stars Guy Pratt joins us for a wonderful succession of amazing tales, rock and roll anecdotage, fashion advice, Floydian digressions and hot takes on Lodger in this second part of our megachat extravaganza! 1979's 'Lodger' is an often underrated album but upon further inspection, this blend of new wave, electrorock, globally-inspired music and esoteric experimentation stands the test of time. It's a shift away from the previous two 'Berlin' albums and probably the most Eno-esque of all Bowie's records, until 1995's '1. Outside'. The tough line up of Carlos Alomar, Dennis Davis and George Murray are on top form and our man Bowie sounds, in turn, edgy, expansive, impassioned and artful.  Joining me to discuss this superb moment in Bowie's career is the legendary boss of the bass, Guy Pratt who since the early 80s has been boosting the bottom end for Robert Palmer, Bryan Ferry, The Smiths, Icehouse, Coverdale/Page and in a relationship spanning over thirty years, various permutations of Pink Floyd. Today, he plays with Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets band, who bring the magical era of Syd era Floyd to the stage. His 2009 autobiography, 'My Bass And Other Animals' is one of the finest, funniest and most enjoyable accounts of a life out on the wilds of the rock scene at its most debauched and delightful best.  Guy has also been in the enviable position of having supported Bowie in 1983, as part of Australian art rockers Icehouse, in the midst of a fan scrum with him in Rotterdam and having Bowie meet his mum outside a caravan full of coke-deranged Australians. He also played bass on Bowie's last ever UK appearance, when he joined Dave Gilmour and band for 'Arnold Layne' and 'Comfortably Numb' in London's Royal Albert Hall in 2006.  This recording, done under lockdown via Zoom, picks up towards the end of side one of Lodger, and makes it to the end of side two via the scenic route. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed talking to Guy! There are occasional groans from my dachshund, the worst of these have been removed. Check out guypratt.com for news, info and updates on all things Guy Pratt and look up his Lockdown Licks on YouTube and get the inside scoop on how to play some of his best-loved licks and lines.

There are reasons why oppression prevails, and majority of this is based off of mental health. Think about it. If the powers that be didnt psychologically torment, isolate, trigger, and provoke the mental of those oppressed then the people would rise and unite. But if you destroy the mental and the will from within then you demobiize. Within households we must protect the brain power and pride and knowledge of self for our youth. Not only the youth but our families. We for one need to keep our elders close. There is no reason why we should be utilizing senior homes, unless the family has zero capacity to care for their elders. And even then there should be involvement from the family. How do we make sure our legacies are build if we keep breaking cycles. What I mean by that is that we feel our past generations reverberate through us as we connect to our elders. We can push the journey onward. How many times do you find out that you had a near relative that may be only two generations behind. And yet yall have the same passion possibly building cars, or boxing, or cooking. We waste precious time creating legacies by not communicating. Communication is amazing for the mental. -expression -energy, currency, into the atmosphere -release But it is also good because you will be better support to the people you love. Be able to help them when they are in need and provide protection. We have to have more of a partnership. EachMindMatters.org Has a resource centerIn fact, the Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health states that African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the general population. Studies show that with support and treatment, between 70% and 90% of all people with mental health challenges have said that they have reduced symptoms and improved quality of life.Blacktherapistsrock.com Have a therapist directoryFor US Segment (1min) Black Fact of the Day: blackpast.org George Washington Murray Birthday Sept 22, 1853 Sumter County, South Carolina A landowner, congressman, inventor, lecturer and writer. Born to parents that were wrongly enslaved George taught himself how to read and write. At 18 he decided to attend a nearby school, but shortly after he was promoted to the teacher. In 1874 George attended University of South Carolina while the reconstruction era was accepting Melanated people. He was awarded a state scholarship but wasn’t able to finish after beginning his sophomore year due to segregation. He spent the first 13 years of his life as a slave, but after the Emancipation Proclamation enrolled at South Carolina State University and later continued his education at the State Normal Institute. George Murray’s patentIn the next 20 years he served as a school teacher, the Chairman of the Sumter County Republican Committee and as a customs inspector for the Port of Charleston, a position was appointed to by the President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. In 1892 George Murray was elected as United States Congressman, representing the state of South Carolina. In this position he frequently spoke from the floor of the House, describing the plight of Black citizens and imploring his fellow Congressmen to protect those citizens rights. One topic that Murray spoke openly about was the plight of the Black inventor. In that day of age, most whites were completely unaware of the success that many Blacks had enjoyed in inventing useful devices which were benefiting ordinary citizens. Murray recounted these achievements and read them into the Congressional Record. While serving in his second term, Murray secured patents for eight inventions, including cultivating and fertilizing equipment and a cotton chopper. After serving two terms in Congress, Murray became a real estate speculator, eventually moving to Chicago, Illinois in 1905. He died in April of 1926 and was buried in Illinois.COMMENTSNews/Celebrity News: Tekashi 69 snitching identifies everybody and they addresses Biggest snitch in history. Right behind judas. Alberta is the second-largest producer of hemp but much of it goes unused, according to Nicole Sanchez, a fourth-year-student studying business, economics and law, and project manager of Hempact. “Hemp is normally used for its seed. The hemp stock is considered as waste,” she said. Hempact is taking that excess hemp material and creating a product that will be single-use and disposable; the menstrual pad would have hemp fiber in the middle sandwiched by a bioplastic that the students are developing. “One woman goes through menstruation for an average of 38 years,” Sanchez said. “That’s about 300 pounds of waste per one person. That could take about 800 to 1,000 years to biodegrade.” Sanchez said current menstrual products are 10 per cent cotton and 90 per cent plastic, which is why it takes so long for them to biodegrade. “If we release this product, it would take six months to biodegrade. That’s a big difference,” she said. The idea originated from a pitch competition in Drayton Valley that focused on what to do with the province’s agricultural waste. It has since become a 16-student operation at the university. “Women are able to use a product that they know is environmentally-friendly without needing to change up their routine of how they go about their menstrual hygiene habits,” said Anka Chan, Hempact’s research and development officer. Chan is also a fourth-year-student at the University of Alberta studying neuroscience. “We’re really trying to develop a product that is going to be as good or better than those in the market that women are using now.” Chan said there have been some challenges with the hemp, including working on techniques to soften the fibers for comfort, but the students are making strides towards a final prototype. The group hopes to help break down the stigma behind menstruation, but the environment and what is in store for future generations is front of mind for both women. “Essentially every woman menstruates you know. It’s not something we can avoid. If we have a product that is good for the environment, then why not?” Sanchez said. She said the group will eventually look at developing tampons and diapers from hemp waste. The students are looking to have a working prototype by the end of August, fine-tune it until the end of December and trial the product with university students in early 2020.Looking for a Black Owned Period Product to partner with for Love Period, if you are one or know of one please send me the details**213-270-1969= Golden Keys Debt Repayment The Debt Snowball Step 1: List your debts from smallest to largest regardless of interest rate. A special presentation of Beyond Books: the St. John's Public Libraries podcast! On March 15, 2018 a special event in the series 'The Once and Future Library' - created to foster dialogue between library-lovers and the literary community about the importance of our public libraries - was held featuring three of the city's top poets. City councillor Maggie Burton, and former St. John's poets laureate George Murray and Agnes Walsh --- all published and accomplished poets in their own rights - read from their work and spoke about the importance of public libraries. We present a recording of the night in its entirety, featuring Meg Coles (editor of Riddle Fence, the province's journal of arts and culture) as host.
