We are back with what we are calling the @DJiRockJesus ROCKIN Christmas Edition of the podcast. We are not just celebrating the Christmas Season with Christian Hip Hop's Favorite Deejay. But, we are also joining with him in his 60th Birthday Celebration. Plus, he was recently inducted in the CHH's Inaugural Hall of Fame. Deejaying for over three decades and a multiplicity of accolades, DJiRockJesus mix shows can literally be heard around the globe. We are so excited to welcome DJiRockJesus back to the podcast for the second time. And, in addition to his interview he has gifted us with a special CHH Mix that can only be heard on the Thinking Out Loud Radio Show. PLUS, in the spirit of the season we have a special Thought of the Week from the iconic and legendary preacher and orator Dr. S.M. Lockridge entitled, "That's My King." This is message where he thoughtfully articulates the deity of the God of the Universe. What a timely message, especially in a day and time where society seems to have put politics at the spectrum of power. Not so! We know regardless of who is seated at the desk in the Oval Office, our God is and will always be in charge. Lastly, we want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. We hope you enjoy our last podcast for this year and we hope you rejoin us again in the New Year. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-s-nimmons/support

Before Alex Pervukhin (@flashyflashy) launched his vinyl label (@laconicalabel) and released numerous tracks on large recordings worldwide, he was a local DJ-hero first. Following years of perfecting skills, Pervukhin put all his attainment into vinyl only label Laconica. Barcelona based https://soundcloud.com/florian-gasp is on duty for this Flip podcast. He’s experimental by nature and he has compiled a set of very engaging sounds with real good punch. Give it a listen. About the artist: Deejaying for over 27 years, this charismatic and talented French DJ and producer still lives and enjoys music with the same passion and energy as when he started. That is probably the reason why he is today one of the Barcelona DJs with the greatest international projection. Florian is undoubtedly a benchmark in the electronic scene in Barcelona, where he regularly plays in the most fashionable clubs in the city, such as Pacha Barcelona, CDLC-Carpe Diem, Solo, Hotel Me, W Hotel, City Hall, Sutton, Oshum or Club Catwalk. His music is also in high demand for the most fashionable events and parties in the city. In 2006, Playboy chose him to be Hugh Huffner's official 80th anniversary DJ. And today, very often, he plays for the opening events of fashion stores: Guess, Swarovski, Berska, Jacques Dessange ... As the main resident DJ of the famous Barcelona Essentials events (parties that present “the best of Barcelona in one night”) he has been playing for the last two years in the best clubs in the main European capitals: Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Lausane, Milan ... Very eclectic, his sets full of energy offer from the most elegant deep house, to the most dynamic and progressive electro tech beats, adding the freshest house grooves to current styles. As he says himself: "I need to feel the dance floor, see people enjoy themselves, I try to convey emotion, and my only goal is to make people feel it and dance the night away." He is especially dedicated to composing music for an electronic label recognized worldwide and also composes music for advertising and film companies. In addition, he is a certified teacher at Ableton live and gives face-to-face classes to teenagers in private schools and online in Barcelona. We talk to Maxi Priest and Jonathan Emile who collaborated on Emile's recently released "Babylon is Falling" Remix. Reggae music has always been at the forefront of social and political issues. One example is Bob Marley's participation in the Amandla Festival of 1979 in Boston. There, Marley performed in support of the anti-apartheid movement and the liberation of South Africa. A few short months ago, the entire world was shaken when George Floyd lost his life. People protested, buildings and businesses burned - all while in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Race relations were already strained, but this event managed to trigger both a national and international outcry for change and justice. "Babylon is Falling" is a song that has put a voice to the change. The song features 2 artists (Jonathan Emile and Maxi Priest) from different generations coming together to speak on what they've been through, and what's to come. We held a reasoning on the following: * How did the Remix to “Babylon is Falling” featuring Maxi Priest come about? * Different flavors of racism in the UK, Canada, and the Southern U.S. * The concept behind "Spaces In Between," Jonathan's debut reggae album. * Maxi Priest's excitement for his forthcoming album, "United State of Mind." * Why are some Caribbean people afraid to go back to the region? * Billboard's disrespect towards dancehall culture with their Verzuz cover. * What is the responsibility of musicians in fighting oppression? * The problem with trying to control musicians' creative output. ‘Babylon is Falling’ Remix - Jonathan Emile ft Maxi Priest Two Artists from Different Generations Come Together to Sing About the State of the World Today: Canadian-Jamaican artist Jonathan Emile and British-Jamaican artist Maxi Priest came together to create the Remix to “Babylon is Falling”, a track on Emile’s new album, “Spaces In Between." The album is currently distributed by MindPeaceLove/Tuff Gong International. While the remix to the song was recorded back in January, 2020, neither artist knew at the time that the song would become so relevant a few months later. Emile is a bilingual (English & French), multi-talented singer-songwriter, producer, and Cancer survivor. His commanding voice resonates at the start of the song and draws the listener in immediately, asking if they know what their worth is, and then mentions the capitalistic society in which we live. He then explains that this can’t go on and eventually, something has to change (Babylon will fall). Grammy-nominated Maxi Priest, best known for his Lover’s Rock and R&B/Reggae fusion tunes like “Close to You’ and “Wild World” comes in next, but he’s not singing about love this time. In fact, he’s Deejaying (rapping), which in itself is a rare sound for him. He rides the riddim with the smoothness that he’s best known for, but the content of the lyrics speak of the things he’s both experienced himself throughout the years growing up in England, and what he continues to see around him today. His message, like so many, is that he’s tired. “Here we go again - We stand firm we nah ease up the pressure - Just like a volcano bubbling over - to take it to the heights you have fi step like a soldier” Although both Emile and Priest come from different generations, they have many things in common, including being of Jamaican heritage, and growing up and living outside of Jamaica, which has impacted them. Like so many people that live abroad, there are mixed feelings right now with what is happening with the racial, economic, and spiritual climate, and the uneasiness that it brings. “Babylon is Falling” is a song that resonates with everyone, no matter where you come from, or what age you are. In this week's episode, Mark and Barney are joined by the delightful Colleen "Cosmo" Murphy to mark the 50th anniversary of David Mancuso's legendary first Loft party in New York City. Colleen talks about her friendship with Mancuso and about her own musical journey as a revered DJ (not to mention host of Classic Album Sundays).Barney notes the week's featured writer Daryl Easlea — and specifically his pieces on Elvis Presley the movie star and (tying in with this week's reissue of his excellent book Everybody Dance) Chic protegée Norma Jean Wright. Colleen concurs that the latter's 'Saturday' (1978) is a stone disco classic. The New York theme continues with discussion of the week's new audio interview, featuring No Wave queen and fearless transgressor Lydia Lunch talking to Martin Aston in 1989. We hear a clip of Lydia holding forth on her staunch refusal to be part of any cultural mainstream — and conversation ensues about her huge influence and complicated relationship with radical feminism. Finally, Mark talks us through such new additions to the RBP library as a 1969 Jimi Hendrix interview from the L.A. Times, Nick Kent's 1978 encounter with Elvis Costello, and Sean O'Hagan's account of his 1998 trip to Belfast with U2. Episode Notes Welcome to The Whole Phil podcast, I am your host, Phil Reese, the DJ, that's my Facebook name, Really Phil Reese, that's my Twitter, Phillip J Reese, that's my Instagram, my dot com and my real life. This is the podcast where you get your whole Phil. I talk about whatever I want, with whomever I want, and do whatever I want, because there's no rules, no format, and no fucking censors (sorry Mom). Thanks for joining me today, Monday, November 25th. Let me tell you a little about me, I'm a loving, lovable, fat, hairy, queer, inked, sober, spiritual, vegetarian, feminist radical leftist web developer, video producer and deejay in DC. Now that you know a little about me and where we are, let me know a little about you. Tweet me, at reallyphilreese, I'd love to meet you. Let's start the show. Today's topic is DJingI've been DJing professionally for 5 years now at bars, clubs and parties around DC. When I first started, I was not very good, but by plugging away at it, I learned some secrets to success, and today I'm going to discuss just a few of those secrets. What's the difference between having a DJ and just having a preselected playlist or a jukebox at an event? A DJ is a curator, and can inject human judgement into selecting the music for the event. So to be a DJ you have to be discerning and responsive. That's what differentiates paying you to be there rather than just plugging in an iPod and hitting shuffle. You need to read the room and be willing and able to change the direction of your set on a dime based on the crowd feedback you're getting. This isn't feedback like comment cards, but crowd energy. Why was I bad when I started DJing? It wasn't because I was messing up the fades between the songs or had lots of goofs. I got a lot of the technical tricks very quickly. But I tried to impose my taste on the audience, rather than being responsive to the crowd. I mean, every DJ imposes their tastes on their set, you'd just be an internet jukebox if you didn't. But I would go in with a set playlist of things I wanted to hear, and play through it regardless of how the crowd reacted. A better DJ connects with their crowd and the set becomes a conversation between them. Remember, when you're a DJ, you're there for them, they're not there for you, unless you're also a producer playing your own work. And that's why most people wouldn't make good DJs right off the bat. While having an incredibly deep knowledge of music is a requirement for all DJs, the irony is that this can also be an Achilles heel. Most of us with deep knowledge and interest in music tend to also be music snobs, and a stubborn music snob can't connect with their audience. I love deep house music, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's not that I no longer have strong opinions about the music I like best, I'm still quite discerning, but I had to develop a little humility and open-mindedness in order to get better. Just because I think I know more about good music than these Queens, doesn't mean I can tyrannically impose myself on their good time. I'm there to serve them. So I need to be open minded about what I'm playing --to a point at least. If you're someone who dislikes more music that you encounter than you like, you probably won't make a good DJ.Conversely, though, a DJ should never play a song they dislike or are unfamiliar with. Again, you are not a jukebox. Only play what's in your collection, and only add to your collection music you enjoy. I prefer disco, house and electro influenced tunes, and I tend to dislike the most stereotypical elements of trap, dubstep and Big Room, so my collection is tailored to that. That doesn't mean I have NO trap in my collection, I'm just discerning about what I add. And just because you get a request, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea to play it, even if it's in your collection. Again, read the room. What gives a DJ set the human element is the discretion the DJ has about what to play in what order. But you must be flexible in terms of artist, type, genre, and era, depending on the mood of the room. So you need to have a deep catalog to select from, which means, you have to tone down your snobbery a bit. There are billions of hours of recorded music in the world. There is no way you can't find any common ground between your tastes and your audience's. But that means you gotta open up your tastes beyond your all time faves. In terms of getting the mood right, this is an artform, not a science by any means. It takes a lot of practice. At the beginning of a set, I really like to play some very diverse tunes in terms of genre, era, sound, and mood. I pay close attention to the audience and see if I can catch some people's attention. If the mood is dropping in the bar when I'm playing something, I try to avoid playing anything like it again. When I find a group within the audience really responding to something I'm playing, I try to elicit a bigger and bigger response from them, based on the music they initially reacted to. If I'm successful, that mood becomes contagious. Usually a great party starts out with just one person having a good time, and the good time spreads out from them. Therefore you have to have a deep bench of music to play. Again, a DJ is not a jukebox or an iPod so you should come prepared. But you also don't come prepared with a complete playlist you are married to. When preparing for a gig, you should pick 2-4 times enough music to fill the time you're playing. It helps if you've been to this venue or party before, and experienced a successful set there, so you have some parameters to work with.More than 2-4 times is too much, and you'll end up overwhelmed, but less than 2xs, your bench is not deep enough. With every track, make sure you've listened to closely for quality, for spots where you can transition, and have thought about other tracks that would pair well with it. And of course, the music you pull for your gig must be diverse, but all must be music you like!In terms of technique, that's really all learned in person and can't be taught in a podcast. But it's important that if you want to be a DJ, even moreso than your techniques, having the ability to respond to an audience's mood is the most critical factor in your success. That's it for today. I hope you're enjoying the show. After weeks of delays, technical difficulties & scheduling conflicts the first episode is finally here & keeping with the tradition of being unorganised only 2 of the 4 hosts made it to the airwaves for this debut episode!!! What's going on??? Aaron & Sean open up proceedings introducing themselves, talk about where they see the podcast going & cover a few topics within the DJ industry such as using a microphone, the importance of reading a crowd, their influences & how they started out with lots more in-between! Also a few sly digs at their co-hosts David & Jay!
Andee Jay, in civil life named Andreas Reichelt, began his musical career as a guitar player in a school band. He was 15 as he detected his passion for electronical music like Sven Väth, Westbam, Marusha, etc. After contacting famous Dj’s, he started to collect experiences in mixing music. It doesn’t take a long time until he shows his qualification in a few scene clubs. 1998 Andee Jay started a family, and because of this, the Deejaying was not number one in this time, but he still loves music at all and it was a strong part of his life. Since 2010 Andee Jay is producing music in his own sound studio for himself and began to bring his music to the market. https://soundcloud.com/djmogly Download for free on The Artist Union
#Amotion owner/leader of #DeepFlowStudios is a multi-talented member of the hip hop community. From rapping, to producing, building and managing a recording studio (Deep Flow Studios) finding and developing talented artists, running an internet radio station, local cable tv series, publishing company, and promoting herself and local artists, she has formed an entertainment company like no other. Amotion has lived in many states, developing her love for hip hop in the Boston area and upon moving to Baltimore began Deejaying and built her business. During this time she was also writing and rapping. Music and video production had been a self-taught hobby growing up but when given the opportunity in 2001, she attended and graduated from Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Arlington, VA. Amotion has also worked in radio, running the boards at WMAL Talk Radio 630, and in TV as a writer, producer, and news anchor on her high school public access tv station. While spending time as a serious artist she performed and hosted at dozens of venues in DC, Virginia, and of course Baltimore most notably in 2004 won the opening act slot at 93.9 Winter Jam opening up for a handful of major artists. In 2006 Amotion began working with The CCYD Changz after-school program instructing the youth on how to produce their own music and eventually managing one of the young artists, Destiny Lashawn. Amotion and her company Deep Flow ENT have received press in Rolling Stone Magazine as well as every local publication and have appeared twice on FOX 45 News as cover stories. Amotion has won 3 awards for her media accomplishments. Amotion grew up creating her own plays and movies and produced music for and was an extra in HBO's 'The Wire' and music recorded in-studio has been featured in The Wire and in the Tribeca Film Festival movie 'American Casino'. She hopes to get further into acting over time, and when given the time will get back to her passion as a writer/rapper while continuing to grow the company.

I started Deejaying again in 2004 (3 years after my conversion). In 2005 I made my first Christian Hip Hop mixtape and it was the beginning of the Spiritual Gas Mixtape Series. This mixtape was never officially released, but I used it to promote the Christian Hip Hop and Urban Gospel music in the Netherlands. Enjoy this classic mixtape, let me know what you think. Tracklist: 1. Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords Scott Ferguson on Facebook: www.facebook.com/ScottFergusonFerrispark http://sfergusonmusic.com @ferrispark In 1994 Scott Ferguson was introduced to the House & Techno scene in Detroit, Michigan. By the next year Ferguson began Deejaying and consuming a wide range of vinyl records which included, Detroit & Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Disco, & Funk. On the recommendation of UR founder ‘Mad’ Mike Banks, Ferguson purchased the Ensoniq ASR-10 in 1998. The ASR workstation would become the most intregal part of his sample heavy, filtered down sound. Ferguson released his first 12″ record on his own imprint in 2001 and since has released records on Kenny Dixon Jr.’s ‘Mahogani Music’, as well as Reggie Doke’s ‘Psychostatia Recordings’. In 2012 Ferguson started two new projects, the ‘Black Boxx’ project using only 3 black hardware boxes to compose simple, yet effective, loop based machine music and JBSF with fellow DJ/Producer Jitterbug. Scott’s productions have been played and charted by legendary Deejays including Derrick May, Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Marcellus Pittman, Rick Wade, and Mike Huckaby. Currently Ferrispark Records is still manufacturing and selling 12″ vinyl records and Ferguson is still travelling the world playing them. Scott's mix is influenced by Detroit radio stations like WJLB that he used to listen to on the weekends during his early twenties.

Quenum Face to Face Serialism 12. Oliver Deutschmann Breakdown Caduceus Records Biography: Quenum is an extraordinary individual. A professional breakdancer that was raised in Africa, he found love in London in the 80s through mastering the art of DJing to early electronic music and broke into the spotlight as Acess58 in the 90s before forming the Cadenza label with Luciano in 2003. His debut album ‘Face To Face’ is deliriously deep and melancholic, rhythmically complex and gives a fragile new voice to techno. Across the eleven original tracks, Phillippe Quenum exudes a graceful temperance creating tracks that flutter and take flight (indulge in the soothing hihats of ‘Escales’ and synth voices of ‘Children Of The Sun’) as well as rattle the bass bins (sample the raw energy of ‘Basic Solution’ and delicate power of ‘Ritual’). Both sparse and insightful (‘My People’) as well as intricate and anthemic (Never Loose My Soul’) Quenum’s delivery is always quirky and slightly surprising and ‘Face To Face’ is a curious analysis into this honest musical soul. Deejaying since the early 80’s and living in London throughout the 90’s, Quenum gained notoriety founding Acess58 in 1996, before moving to Geneva and setting up Num records in 2005. Together with Luciano, Quenum founded the ubersuccessful label Cadenza, finding a home for their first collaboration “Orange Mistake” one of the most played tracks of the last ten years in the techno circuit. More recently, Quenum partnered with Swiss producer Dachschund to found the Clapper imprint. Philippe Quenum is a key figure within the techno scene, garnering a considerable stream of releases on labels including Contexterrior, Crosstown Rebels, Orac, Trapez, Serialism and Toys for Boys, with tracks appearing on close to 20 compilations on labels such as Fabric (Carl Craig) and Cocoon. Crediting his childhood in Africa and his family background for his musical taste, Quenum has worked on music for documentaries and had a career as a breakdancer. A keen experimenter, his productions are known for their simplicity yet richness in detail. His flawless mixing technique and live sets are constantly redefining and upgrading abstract electronic dance music. CONNECT: facebook.com/pages/Quenum/286291779457?fref=ts @quenum

Little did he know that songs by Aretha Franklin, the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield and P-Funk would ignite a spark in him that would shape his future. Now Moody, better known as DJ Rahdu, has evolved from the basement to the stage by infusing his own musical spin at parties, concerts and events throughout the Southeast. Rahdu started Deejaying in August 2002 on UAB’s Internet Radio Station, Blazeradio. After hearing him spin on that station, poets from the local poetry scene became instantly impressed with his skills and quickly asked him to spin for their poetry night. Now, Rahdu can be found opening for hot acts such as Dwele, Anthony Hamilton, Calvin Richardson & Leela James. Rahdu is often on the scene mesmerizing crowds with his unique blend of Hip-Hop, Neo Soul, Acid Jazz, Funk Jazz, Afro Beat, Classic Soul, Soulful House and Broken Beat. In addition to juggling DJ gigs, Rahdu is pursuing a degree in African American Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham .
