Hugh Grant is most well known for his comedic and gentler performances in “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “About A Boy.” That's not what you're getting from ol Hughie in this week's movie I'm reviewing, “Heretic.” In this movie he comes off like he'd be right at home being roommates with Hannibal Lecter. He plays the mysterious Mr. Reed, who two Mormon women visiting his home to perhaps convert him, are unfortunate enough to meet. The women are Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, played respectively by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, and they early on suspect that their conversion attempt might turn into a survival game. Mr. Reed is no uninitiated, uninformed candidate for religious conversion. You realize that he's very well versed in all things religion. However, you also realize he's got other characteristics that are more sinister that the poor sisters just might have to worry about. What are those characteristics? Will the poor sisters make it out alive? Is it worth finding out in theaters? Check out this episode to find out! “Heretic” also stars Topher Grace, Elle Young, Julie Lynn Mortensen, Haylie Hansen, Elle McKinnon and Anesha Bailey.  Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Nick Hornby has never written the phone book, to use an old expression.  But if he did, I'd read it.  Hornby is one of those writers who elicits unbridled enthusiasm from his unabashed admirers.  Count me in, thanks to books like High Fidelity, Fever Pitch and About A Boy.  He always had a love of reading and writing and music and sports.  But turning it into a lifetime of books and a way to make a living? That was more than a few years in coming.  But come it did.  How fortunate are we.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This time in the Film Stories podcast, the fast turnaround of the first Knives Out movie, and a Hugh Grant-headlined comedy drama, where Four Weddings Hugh Grant was absolutely not required.Writer/director Rian Johnson has admitted in the past that he's not a fast writer. However, when an opportunity arose to bring a murder mystery whodunnit to the screen - long a passion project of Johnson's - he was going to have to move fast. Thanks to his Star Wars commitments, he and producer Ram Bergman had a 12 month window to write Knives Out, cast it, finance it, and shoot it. All in one calendar year.2002's About A Boy didn't move quite that quickly, but this time the catalyst was a novel from Nick Hornby that got leaked to Hollywood early. A big bidding war led to a big cheque for the rights - but there'd be a change of director, a brief flirtation with Brad Pitt and a change of studio before it ultimately got made.Stories of both films are told in this episode.---Film Stories print magazines can be found at store.filmstories.co.uk---Find Simon on Twitter and Bluesky at @simonbrew, and the podcast can be found at @filmstories Hosted on Acast. It's been a few years since we last brought you ANNIVERSARY MONTH but we're back to return to one of our favourite traditions as we go over four films in the next month that are celebrating their anniversary in 2022! And given we are so in love with the films of 2002, we're bringing you four films from that year, starting off today with the incredibly underrated gem that is About A Boy. How amazing is this film and why does it need more love? Is Hugh Grant one of our favourite actors that we just don't talk about enough? How amazing is Nicholas Hoult and why is it obvious he was always set to be a star? Is Toni Collette one of the best and most underrated Australian actors? Why is this movie just so relatable, particularly for men? Why is this movie basically a biopic for Ben? Do we find dead ducks that funny? Do we want to listen to more Badly Drawn Boy? Are we completely silenced by Rachel Weisz? Was this movie ahead of its time? And is any man actually an island? Get your bread ready and begin to strum your song with your fingers for an amazing episode on an amazing movie!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

We have a unique and enlightening interview for you for this month! This is the after show for Mostly Dead Things written by Brian C. Brown (Lucy In The Sky, About A Boy, Bad Monkey) and Jessica Lee Williamson (I'm Dying Up Here, F Is For Family) based on the book by Kristen Arnett. In this interview we discussed Brian and Jessica's experience as veteran storytellers from The Moth. The Moth is clearly an underused potential path to television writing. A path with no barrier to entry too! Jessica told us about a brilliant piece of conceptual art in Los Angeles that she was behind. We discussed the great state of Florida, adapting books into television shows, and so much more. Enjoy this one and thanks for listening! We have a super fresh and well written pilot for you this month! It's called Mostly Dead Things written by Brian C. Brown (Lucy In The Sky, About A Boy, Bad Monkey) & Jessica Lee Williamson (I'm Dying Up Here, F Is For Family). After the death of their patriarch, a dysfunctional family of Florida taxidermists spirals out of control, coping with their loss through redneck love triangles, interspecies porn dioramas, and a bunch of cute squirrels stuffed full of narcotics. Briana and Jessica are both award-winning Moth storytellers. Their pilot Mostly Dead Things is based on Kristen Arnett's best-selling novel and it was sadly passed on by FX.  Our cast for this one was special! We have Allison Tolman (Good Girls, Why Women Kill) as Jessa, Ritesh Rajan as Milo (Russian Doll), Cyrina Fiallo (Life In Pieces, Brooklyn 99) as Brynn Morton, Nicole Travolta (Anger Management) as Kendall, Marcus Bishop-Wright (Out Of Order!) as Whit, Lizzy Peet (How To Get Away With Murder) as Libby, Corey Ryan Forrester (Well Red Comedy) as Big Kid, Uly Schlesinger (Divorce) as Bastien and Andrew Reich with stage directions.  Rich Nelson and Catrin Lowe from Don‘t You Want Me? podcast return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Rich's choice About A Boy. About A Boy is a 2002 comedy-drama starring Hugh Grant, Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult, directed by Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz it is based on the Nick Hornby novel of the same name. Grant stars as Will, a man child living without responsibilities, commitments or having to work living off royalties from a song his father wrote. He meets Marcus (Hoult) on the day his mother Fiona (Collette) attempts suicide. The two strike up an unlikely friendship and teach each other life lessons. Knowing and winking at the audience (references to everyone's favourite film mum Collette being in The Sixth Sense) with an excellent Badly Drawn Boy film soundtrack About A Boy manages the delicate balance of comedy and seriousness to leave you all warm and fuzzy inside. Scores for recommendability were solid if not sensational and a high small screen score gives About A Boy a decent overall rating of 3.82. Her style blends two different musical flavors into something that any music fan would enjoy! Crystal does not only do music, she's also an advocate for women's empowerment, and wants women to feel that they can go after any goal that they hope to achieve. And I really try to do that through my music, through my coaching, through my fitness company, through my podcasting, through conversation, and connection, and through social media.”   34:35 “It's just so important to be healthy and fill your body with healthy things…”   36:50 “I love combining music coaching with movement coaching and meditation coaching. Jacob Hopkins talks joining the "How To Train Your Dragon" universe, playing a vampire as a child, growing up on TV, and a few times casting told him to pack his bag....when he didn't need to!About Jacob:Jacob's big break came when he landed a role on the fifth season of the popular HBO series True Blood. In the critically acclaimed show, Jacob played Alexander Drew, the youngest (looking) member of the Vampire Authority. Having turned at the age of nine, his character was an impetuous vamp who liked to taunt those around him. Jacob shared the screen with fellow Authority chancellors Christopher Meloni, Peter Mensah, and Carolyn Hennesy as well as lead actors Alexander Skarsgard and his Priest co-star Stephen Moyer. At nineteen, he is making his mark in the voice over world. He voices the lead character, Fushi, an immortal being who takes on the form of deceased nameless boy in the anime series To Your Eternity. The show is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name and is airing now on Crunchyroll. He can also be heard on Netflix's Dragons: Rescue Riders as Axel Finke. The show is a spin-off of the fan favorite movie, How to Train Your Dragon. He also honed his comedic chops as the voice of Gumball Watterson in Cartoon Network's animated hit The Amazing World of Gumball, one of his favorite shows. The BAFTA Award-winning series chronicles the adventures of an amusing twelve-year-old cat with a fair for misadventure, and his extraordinary suburban family, who live in constant conflict with their ordinary town. The second highest-rated cartoon on the network, Gumball has been praised for its “first-rate silliness” and “really clever spin on domestic chaos” by Variety.Jacob is definitely no stranger to the small screen. Following his success on True Blood, he landed a recurring role on The Goldbergs. In this hilarious comedy, Jacob plays Chad Kremp, who is a cool and preppy kid on the surface, but a geek at heart. His character becomes instant friends with Adam Goldberg (Sean Giambrone) as they share a love for all things geeky. The series also stars Jeff Garlin and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Jacob was also seen in the Lifetime Movie Missing at 17, which tells the poignant tale of the struggles a family faces when their teenage daughter goes missing. As the younger brother Andrew, Jacob plays a pivotal role in helping his parents find his missing sister. Other notable television credits include guest roles on How I Met Your Mother as well as About A Boy and Animal Practice.Jacob has also ventured on to the big screen. His first feature film was Priest, where he had a small but memorable role opposite Paul Bettany and Stephen Moyer. Jacob also lent his talents to the short film The Boy Who Cried Fish, where he gave a moving performance as an autistic child. Jacob's performance was praised by fans and critics alike, earning him a "Best Male Performer" award at the Action on Film Festival. In Just a Little Heart Attack he played the very smart son of Elizabeth Banks, who also directed the project. He also starred as the supporting lead in CBS Films Middle School: Worst Years of My Life as Miller. Jacob further showcased his acting prowess in two web series. He was cast in RCVR, which was honored as Best Drama Web Series at the 2012 International Academy of Web Television Awards and Supermoms, where he co-starred opposite Joey Lauren Adams. Jacob will return to the world of film in Carolina's Calling, which stars Antonio Sabato Jr., Stacey Dash, and Savanah Moss. It’s the big one! We’re finally watching ‘About A Boy’, the movie that ultimately catalysed our silly little pod. So excited was Zoe this week that she watched it twice, which is a mere drop in the ocean compared with how many times she’s seen it before. In what we’re dubbing ‘Hugh’s most iconic role’, our leading man plays a disgruntled manbaby trying to gamify his sad little life. Join us as he attempts to have discerning taste (while owning a huge poster that just says ‘jazz’ on it), picks up women at a single parent support group (successfully), and meets a child called Marcus who he doesn’t offer cigarettes to (against type). Will this pathetic but inexplicably sympathetic man ever grow up? Are they gonna be able to shoehorn those 20 mins of romcom in at the end? How the heck did Nicholas Holt end up in Skins? All these questions will be answered as we watch the definitive entry into the “babies doth suck” genre of Hugh movie.

It seems like an age since these guys won The X Factor. They were the first group to win. One Direction couldn't do it, but Little Mix did! Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall have established themselves as the world’s biggest girl band. The numbers are astounding and back up that claim. They have sold over 50 million records worldwide, collected over 17 million Spotify listeners, received over 3 billion Youtube views, collated 12 billion streams worldwide and won 2 Brit Awards. Now, this year Little Mix launch a brand new TV series for BBC One, Little Mix:The Search. This isn't their first telly foray as Jesy herself has won a National TV Award for her compelling documentary about bullying called Odd One Out. In an open and engaging interview, Jesy told Fergal D'Arcy about how the lockdown has effected them as a band but more how it has become such a font of positivity for getting closer to fans and how we are now seeing the good side of social media. Mental Health It hasn't always been such a positive place and Jesy suffered from online abuse so much that she made an award winning television documentary on how it affected her mental health.(see above) She tells Fergal: Social platforms like TikTok are making people happy through positivity. If you are happy within yourself you don't need to make other people unhappy. People that leave passing comments and think you're not going to see it or that it doesn't make a difference. They don't realise the hurt they cause others. And she reveals that she was once in Harry Potter and About A Boy before Little Mix plus Jade has the SAME TATTOO AS FERGAL D'ARCY!! Plus, Jesy talks about their amazing superfan Kayleigh who makes their lyric videos. They are OUTSTANDING:   View this post on Instagram   I can’t believe I can finally tell you all that my BIGGEST dream came actually true... Was Alan held captive by Somali pirates like Captain Phillips? Not exactly - but he didn't get a chance to see the film. For the ransom of a 2014 popcorn bucket Chris agrees to give solo reviews of both "Captain Phillips" and the indie film "Escape from Tomorrow" that was covertly shot in the Disney World Theme Park. After the reviews, the fellows discuss some movie news and finally have their movie trailer discussion that they've been putting off. Rounding out the show are recommendations for movies to catch up on available on iTunes, Netflix, or sometimes on good old fashioned DVD. Recommendations – "About A Boy", "Carrie"
