Renier Van Der Klashorst is updating us with the work of Compassion Australia and teaching what Isaiah has to say about how we might integrate our faith and our works.
The role of women in the church has unfortunately become one of controversy in some places. Guest speaker Tim Hanna takes us through how we engage with Scripture about this topic and where the weight of Scripture leads us. And why it need not be divisive, but rather enhancing for the church. Tim has spent 30 years in local church ministry in Australia, leading local churches in a number of states as well as lecturing at Theological College and in the church leadership space with Willow Creek Australia. He also spent ten years as CEO of Compassion Australia. Since then Tim has been involved in coaching and consulting and is currently the Chairman of Council, of Churches of Christ Queensland. His own experience and opportunities have given him a passion to help leaders flourish in their own leadership roles. Tim is married to Chris and they have nine children, 26 grandchildren and he loves those sometimes crazy, family times. He is also a sports tragic, enjoying most sports, and doesn't mind a good coffee. If you enjoyed this sermon please consider subscribing.CONNECT WITH US Instagram: www.instagram.com/humeridgechurch Facebook: www.facebook.com/humeridgechurch YouTube: www.youtube.com/humeridgechurchHave you made a decision to follow Jesus? Despite the backlash and threats, Melinda and the team at Collective Shout continue their work to protect women and children from objectification and sexualization. Melinda is an author, speaker, media commentator and campaigner. She is best known for her work addressing sexualization, objectification, harms of pornography, sexual exploitation, trafficking and violence against women. This Sunday we're excited to welcome Dr. Richmond Wandera from Uganda as our guest speaker. Now serving as a Senior Pastor, he equips and trains thousands of pastors across East Africa. If you're building a recruitment business, you might want to consider replacing the 360 degree “full desk” model with a 120-120-120 model. In this fascinating interview, Pree Sarkar shares why he believes it's easier to scale a recruitment business with a 120 degree model. You'll hear how it gives his firm a competitive advantage in the market. Plus, Pree reveals their entire end-to-end recruitment process including the KPIs and metrics of a successful search firm leveraging the 120 business model. You'll be inspired by Pree's story of resilience, from losing his job during the Great Financial Crisis to starting a successful recruitment company and making a positive impact locally and globally. Pree Sarkar is the Founder and Director of Switch Recruitment, specializing in recruiting for start-ups and SaaS companies in the APAC region. LinkedIn rated him as a Top 1% Recruiter, Amazon rated his book Switch, a #1 bestseller in Careers and Job Hunting and he is a member of The Pinnacle Society, a select group of industry-leading recruiters globally. Episode Outline and Highlights [02:05] From losing his job to launching a recruitment business. [05:02] Key inflection points in the road to recruitment business success. [10:47] Building trust from scratch when nobody has heard of you or your company. [15:14] Transitioning from being a generalist to a niche specialist. [18:30] Why it is essential to focus on your strengths and hire others to complement your weaknesses. [22:02] Pree describes Switch's building phase and how it has evolved. [25:08] What is the 120-120-120 team model? [29:30] Discussion on incentives, metrics, and KPIs in the 120-degree model. [32:00] Pree shares their end-to-end recruitment process in detail. [38:30] Giving back to the community - sponsoring a child with every placement. [46:34] How Pree became a thought leader and trusted advisor in New South Wales. [54:50] Pree shares the backstory of his best-selling book, Switch. Inflection Points Leading to Recruitment Business Success Pree shares an amazing story on how he got into the recruitment business. On the eve of the Great Financial Crisis, he ended up losing his job. Determined to provide for his family, he believed that from that point onward that no matter how dark it was, serendipity can change the course of his life. The first three months were really hard with two kids under five while being a single-income family. They had just recently purchased a house, and they had to break open the piggy bank in order to survive. I am sure you will be amazed at how one thing led to another for Pree, which can be attributed to his mindset and resilience. There are four distinct inflection points in his journey that he elaborated on: Learning how to listen with empathy to solve problems. Learning to sell. Learning to lead. Learning to build. Experiencing difficulties first hand moved Pree to give back to the community by means of sponsoring a child for every placement. They currently sponsor 21 children across the planet and provide food, medication, clothing, and education through their partnership with Watoto and Compassion Australia. Why Pree Believes the 120 Degree Model Is More Effective In discussing how Pree built Switch Recruitment, we covered the topic of Switch's 120-120-120 model, which they find more effective than a 360 model. Pree believes that recruiters must have situational awareness in three areas: who are the companies, what are the jobs, and who are the candidates? With this in mind, there should be team effort involving: A researcher who lives and breathes all the data and information. A recruiter who is speaking to 20+ candidates all day, every day. An account manager who solely focuses on the client ecosystem. This minimized risks for everyone on the team as the specialization allows each person to embrace their skills and build expertise. Part of Switch's value proposition is that they offer a “relay race” with three recruiters working on each project resulting in faster placements. How to Build Your Reputation as a Trusted Advisor A series of events lead to Pree becoming a trusted advisor in his industry - to the point of being recognized by the Australian government and publishing his book, “Switch”. To summarize, Pree likes having conversations with executives, listening to their problems, and genuinely wanting to solve them even if it may or may not result in a transaction. These conversations built the foundation for him to be more visible, and lead to him published his book, Switch: Stand Out, Get The Right Job And Accelerate Your Career. When the pandemic hit, the book was really timely as a lot of people needed help. Pree shipped 200 copies of the book for free, and they ran 40 workshops and recorded an online course. They then approached companies offering outplacement support for employees who were losing their job. This lead to Pree being awarded a Certificate of Outstanding Service by the New South Wales Government. Welcome back to Perko's Podcast!Well, today on the podcast we are doing something a little bit different than we would usually do. Part of what I do beyond recording podcasts is coaching leaders through various exercises that help them to reach their goals without losing their souls. My friend Sidhara Udalagama was kind enough to let me facilitate one of these exercises for her called a Life Manifesto. A life manifesto is the exercise of prayer and thought to develop wording around how you want to live your one and only life. I thought that since we are approaching a new year when most of us typically evaluate and set goals for the next 365 days that this would be a great exercise to share with you. My friend Sid is an amazing speaker, creative and corporate consultant. Sid grew up in Sri Lanka but spent her adult years in England working in full time ministry after graduating with an MSc in Occupational Psychology. Sid is currently working with Compassion Australia which is a fantastic organisation and you will hear more about her work shortly.Sid is passionate about people fulfilling their God given potential in this world and becoming all that they were created to be. Both her roles in the church and corporate world enable her to outwork this passion. She is a powerful and gifted communicator of God's Word and loves that the Bible has the power to change lives.Sidhara is married to her husband Dev and enjoys eating, traveling the world and repeating those two things... preferably together.Contact Jason:hello@jasonperkoperkins.comInstagram: @jasonperkoperkinsTwitter: @perkosplaceFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jasonperkoperkins/https://linktr.ee/jasonperkoperkinsIf you like what you hear, feel free to share this episode with a friend! Meet Rodney, Christian music DJ for 25 years in Perth, who discovered his true passion working with Compassion Ministries eight years ago. WATCH ON YOUTUBE Rodney is a husband, father, cyclist, blogger and podcaster from Perth Western Australia. "I work full time for Compassion Australia, releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name." He has crossed Australia 6 times by bike as well as cycling in Canada and making two trips to cycle in India. In this episode Rodney shares stories of those travels as well as the reasons behind the journeys. He plans to cycle across Australia again in September 2022 with up to 30 other bicyclists, a documentary video crew, and a support team of 12. It will take a month to cross from the Indian Ocean in Perth to New South Wales on the Pacific Ocean. Support this epic journey across Australia for children in need. Ride for Compassion sees cyclists and support crew take to the road to help raise money for vulnerable children living in poverty. What is Coast to Coast? The ride will be a one-month, 4,000km journey from Perth to Newcastle in September/October where cyclists ride from the beautiful beaches of Western Australia, across the rugged Nullarbor, to the bustling east coast city of Newcastle. Each cyclist undertakes extensive training before the event, pays for their on-road costs, and raises funds for the work of Compassion. How can you help? You can help by sponsoring a child or donating to help meet the urgent needs of Compassion assisted children who are facing unthinkable hardships. This can include those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, children whose parents have left, died, or unable to provide for them, children exposed to exploitation and children with special needs. Business Sponsorships Have your business's logo on the cyclists' jerseys by sponsoring the Ride. Your support will help cover the costs of this special event. To express interest please contact Rodney Olsen at rolsen@compassion.com.au With the worldwide pandemic, poverty around the world has risen dramatically. The team is aiming to raise $600,000 and see 150 children sponsored from Africa, Asia, Central and South America and around the world. Will you be part of this incredible impact? How you can help right now http://www.RideForCompassion.com Why has Rodney dedicated his entire life to this work? For children living in extreme poverty. "I had quite an experience back during the 2008 global recession, seeing Compassion at work first hand. Our group had to be evacuated from Haiti during food riots. That's what convinced me to speak out on behalf of those living in poverty." Two years before the devastating Haiti earthquake he witnessed parents feeding their children a mixture of water, oil and dirt, creating mud pies so they wouldn't feel hungry. The price of food went up so high that poor families had no money to buy food. The government was not helpful and riots broke out in the streets of Port-au-Prince creating an extremely treacherously dangerous run to the airport. The city was on fire. He and his team barely escaped with their lives. Learn more at Rodney's podcast Rodney Olsen hosts inspirational guests who are kicking against the darkness until it bleeds daylight. How did it come to this: the pornification of our society? Our children and youth now contend with peer sexual assault and sexual harassment at growing rates and disturbingly young ages. This week Jonathan sits down with Melinda Tankard Reist of Collective Shout for a very honest conversation about the widespread sexual dysfunction of our age and its catastrophic consequences for our children. She is an Ambassador for World Vision Australia, Compassion Australia, Hagar NZ and the youth mentoring body the Raise Foundation. Melinda's recent article on ABC Religion & Ethics is called "Why “consent” doesn't stand a chance against porn culture."
Originally from the Blue Mountains, Clare studied a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering at the University of Western Sydney before also earning her Master of Divinity from Sydney Missionary & Bible College.
