Daenerys and her host reach the walls of Meereen. She picks a champion to face the city's hero in man-to-man combat. She meets an old foe and is saved by an unlikely defender. Finally, she discovers two huge secrets and reels from the shocking truth. Mackelly and Simon thank the Seven it's not them who deceived her.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen and her host of freed people make camp outside the walls of Meereen. A hero waits for Dany outside the city walls. Dany sends Strong Belwas to face the Meereenese hero. The fight doesn't last long, ending in Belwas decapitating the other man.Later, Dany discusses ways to defeat the city, with her council. Nobody has any useful ideas, so she dismisses them. While ruminating on the task in front of her, she considers Daario Naharis. Dany fancies him and wonders what it'd be like to take him as a lover. She puts the thought aside and goes for a ride, with Missandei and Arstan Whitebeard for company. Dany allows her people to touch her, as she rides by. However, one man pulls her from her saddle. It's Mero, the former commander of the Second Sons. Mero moves to kill her but Arstan instead easily defeats him.Back inside her tent, Dany wants Jorah to knight Arstan for his efforts. Both men balk at that. It's then that Jorah realizes who Arstan really is. He introduces Arstan as Ser Barristan Selmy, a traitor to the Targaryans, for serving under Robert the Usurper. Barristan scoffs at the hypocrisy and tells Dany of Jorah's treason, selling information about her and her brother to Lord Varys, as part of a pardon agreement. Dany is angry and hurt and sends both men away. Daenerys surveys the Yunkish host awaiting her. She meets with, then offers deals and deadlines to, the leaders of the enemy force. She makes a possible new friend, berates an old one, and gets a history lesson about her brother Rhaegar. Simon and Mackelly ponder buyer's remorse with sellsword armies.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen surveys the host awaiting her own outside the gates of Yunkai. She asks Ser Jorah Mormont to invite the leaders of the three factions of the force to meet her in her tent, spreading out the meeting times so she can meet with each group separately. She offers the sellsword company the Stormcrows an alliance, wanting an answer the next day. She offers the leader of the sellsword company the Second Sons a wagon of wine to consider joining her side, again wanting an answer the next day. Finally, she offers the Yunkai envoy three days to send out every slave in the city loaded down with goods and gold. If they do as asked, they and their city will be spared. When the men have left, she tells her council that they'll attack an hour after midnight, while the enemy are distracted by her offers.Later that night, Daario Naharis one of the leaders of the Stormcrows is found in camp. He tells Dany the Stormcrows are hers, as is he. Jorah is uncertain of the man's intentions. Dany disregards Ser Jorah and sends Daario back to prepare his men to turn their cloaks when the battle begins. She then lashes out at Jorah for pushing all other men away. She loves and respects him, but does not desire him.As the battle begins, Dany and Arstan Whitebeard pass the time discussing her brother Rhaegar. Their conversation is cut off by the news of their victory against the Yunkish force. The Stormcrows fought on Dany's side, as Daario promised. Three days later, the slaves of Yunkai are freed. We've arrive people. The moment that I've been hyping up all season. Still, to this day, we haven't gotten something this shocking and utterly devastating on television. This is easily one of the most utterly devastating betrayals, deceptions, plot twists, whatever word you want to use to describe, it's time...for the Red Wedding. All of Robb's actions have been building to here, whether he realized it or not. Robb and his forces arrive at the Twins for the Wedding, completely unaware of the danger that's about to befall them. Elsewhere, Arya & the Hound make for the Twins, the Hound fully ready to hand her over. In the North, Bran's group stumble upon a windmill to take shelter, while Jon finds himself in the same place with the wildlings and forced to choose where his loyalties lie. In Yunkai, Daenerys carries out her plan with Daario Naharis, something that greatly displeases Jorah. Alright people, we took off from the main podcast this week, but Talkin' Thrones is going strong all the way to the finish line, as we're on the last stop before the dreaded Red Wedding with Season 3, Episode 8, entitled Second Sons! The wrap up of this very deliberately plotted season has begun, as we check in on a lot of the secondary storylines that have been going on this season. We spend the bulk of this storyline in 3 different locations: Yunkai, Dragonstone & King's Landing. In King's Landing, it's wedding season, with Tyrion & Sansa's not-at-all anticipated nuptials upon them, and everyone is doing everything to make the process as miserable as possible along the way for them. On Dragonstone, Melisandre arrives and presents Gendry to Stannis, who gives her the ok to proceed with her plan, but he also frees Davos, who demands an explanation for why he is going through with this drastic deed. In Yunkai, Daenerys continues with her planned invasion of the second slave city by meeting with one of the mercenerary troupes that Yunkai employs, the Second Sons, and catches the eye of one of their leaders, Daario Naharis. We also check in briefly with Arya, who is now traveling with the Hound towards the Twins, as he wants to collect the bounty on her. We also end the episode with a HUGELY important sequence, with Sam & Gilly coming under attack by a White Walker, with Sam successfully killing it with a dragonglass blade. "Tell your man to step aside or there will be violence." says Lancel Lannister. Cersei Lannister replies "I choose violence." Season 6 and “A Dance With Dragons” conclude in spectacular fashion as we evaluate episodes 8, 9 & 10. Brienne and Jaime Lannister lay eyes on each other for the first time since Jaime gave her his sword to find and protect Sansa Stark, King Tommen outlaws Trial By Combat and Brynden the Blackfish refuses to give up Riverrun. Over in Essos, the Masters of Astapor and Yunkai take advantage of Daenerys' absence and launch an all out assault on Meereen. At Riverrun a common foot soldier has to make a choice to either take commands from the man who reformed their army and took back Riverrun from the Frey's, or to take commands from the rightful Lord of Riverrun with a proverbial knife to his throat. Will he make the right choice? The Hound gets his revenge on the strangers who butchered the villagers he had been staying with and meets up with some familiar faces. In Bravos, the Waif corners Arya to kill her once and for all, but only one is accustomed to fighting in the pitch black. Jaquen H'ghar follows the blood trail to the Hall of Faces and makes a shocking discovery as to who's face has been added to the Hall. He turns to Arya and says "Finally a girl is no one." Arya replies "A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell and I'm going home." Back in Meereen, Daenerys returns to her city being under attack and has vengeance on her mind. "I will crucify the masters, I will set their fleets afire, kill every last one of their soldiers and return their cities to the dirt." she declares while getting the debrief from Tyrion. Tyrion talks her down and to do it his way. They meet with the Masters and there is a misunderstanding as to whom is surrendering. Daenerys tells the Masters "We obviously didn't communicate clearly, we're here to discuss your surrender not mine." before taking flight with Drogon and destroying the Masters fleet and armies. At Winterfell, there is a parlay between the Northern houses that have sided with the Ramsay Bolton and the Northern houses/Wildlings that have sided with Jon Snow. Ramsay chides Jon and tells him "There's no need for a battle, get off your horse and kneel." to which Jon replies "You're right, there's no need for a battle, thousands of men don't need to die. Only one of us. Let's end this the old way, you against me." Ramsay doesn't take the bait and tells Jon "I keep hearing stories about you bastard, the way the people in the North talk about you, you're the greatest swordsman that ever walked. Maybe you are that good. Maybe not. I don't know if I'd beat you, but I know my army will beat yours." Jon returns the verbal spar "Aye you have the number, but will your men want to fight for you when they hear you wouldn't fight for them" which draws Ramsays ire to Jon's satisfaction. With Meereen back under control, Yara and Theon attempt to make a pact with Daenerys for the Iron Islands. Rickon Stark runs for his life in vain, the Battle of the Bastards commences. Jon receives aid from an unsuspecting ally. Ramsay's story comes full circle. In Kings Landing, the High Sparrow and others prepare for Cersei and Loras' trial. King Tommen tries to attend but his way is barred by Ser Gregor. Margaery tries to convince the High Sparrow something is wrong, but his arrogance leads them to a fiery surprise. Tommen finds out what happened and takes his own life. The Frey's have a banquet feast celebrating the retaking Riverrun with the Lannister army and Jaime openly questions Walder Frey's importance to his face. Sam arrives at the Citadel and is permitted access to the Library. Ser Davos in Winterfell confronts Melisandre about Shireen's fate in an emotional explosion and Daario Naharis learns that he will not be joining Daenerys and her army to Westeros. Arya exacts her revenge on the Frey's for the Red Wedding as things start to shift in the Stark's favor finally. Bran received safe passage to the Wall from a long lost undead Uncle and we learn there is magic in the Wall that keep the army of the dead at bay. Bran goes into a vision and we learn the truth of a certain "bastard". while Jon Snow holds a meeting in the great hall of Winterfell where the Northern houses bestow the same title upon him as they did Robb Stark. With all members of the royal family dead in Kings Landing except one, she takes the crown for herself and Daenerys is finally on her way to accomplish what she has set out to do since Season 1. Join us for this bombshell conclusion of Season 6 as the Riddikulus Crew breaks down the key points, raises questions and debates topics. As Tyrion tells Daenerys, "You're in the great game now, and the great game is terrifying."
