What's up, dudes? Is it BAB-ar or BaBAR? Michael May from After Lunch, Crestwood House, and Hellbent for Letterbox and I try to figure it out. Yes, we're talking about “Babar and Father Christmas!”Arthur, Pom, Flora, and Alexander, the royal elephant children, are playing with their monkey pal, Zephir. Soon he tells them that in man's world, Father Christmas delivers presents to good boys and girls on Christmas Eve! After their amazement subsides, they write Father Christmas a wish list letter, but are disappointed when they don't get a reply. Ultimately, this leads to Babar's realization that the Elephants' Country needs to be included in Santa's regular route. The King goes to heroic lengths to make his children's' wishes come true. First, he goes to the city and befriends an artist's model. From there, he meets a geography professor with a map to Santa's workshop. Babar makes the trek up north, and he and Father Christmas become fast friends. Father Christmas even gets to take a much needed rest in the tropical climate of Babar's country. He also gifts Babar a magical flying suit to distribute presents on Christmas Eve.Saxophone-playing Rhino antagonists? Check. Barbarian Babar? In a joke. Elves who've never seen a flamingo? Only if they look like gnomes! So grab your crown, hop on a train to the city, and check your maps to this episode on “Babar and Father Christmas!”After LunchGive us a buzz! A könyvek, amiket beválogattunk: Babarczy Eszter - Apám meghal Solvej Balle - A térfogatszámításról I.-II. Neige Sinno - Nyomorult tigris Olga Tokarczuk - Empuszion (Tokarczukkal külön epizódot is szántuk, Fehér Renátóval beszélgettünk az életművéről.) Rachel Cusk - Parádé David Graeber-David Wengrow - Mindenek hajnala (a cikk róla itt lelhető fel) Karl Ove Knausgård - A harmadik birodalom (Knausgård életművéről tavaly beszélgettünk a fordítójával, Kúnos Lászlóval.) Paul Kingsnorth - Against the machine, és az említett blog az esszékkel. És a verses kötetek: Zilahi Anna - Gyengédség Roberto Bolaño - A romantikus kutyák Csordás Kata - A tékozlás öröme Peer Krisztián - Pazarlás Valamint a gyerekkönyvek: Jakob Martin Strid - Hihetetlen történet az óriás körtéről Kiss Judit Ágnes - Babarókák Jill Barklem - Szederberek összes meséje Simona Smatana - Komposzti Ferkó és a többiek Ted Forsström - Hallgass, Tappancs, halkan vakkants! és Puffancs morog, gyomra korog See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How should we feel about racist depictions of people of colour in beloved children's cartoons today? Who knew that olive oil makes head lice sleepy? Jennifer Hayden rejoins the show to celebrate her new graphic memoir/anti-cookbook, WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S DINNER: Confessions of a Cartoonist Cook (Top Shelf), share comedic tales of domestic mess, and rebel against the expectations of wife/motherhood. We talk about the lifetime of bad cooking that led to this new book, the revenge of turning her bad experiences into comedy, how she found a unique form to tell her story, and how a youthful reading of Babar left her with a lifelong phobia of mushrooms. We get into how she was reverse-inspired by Lucy Knisley's Relish, how watercolors gave her a color toolbox for her comics, what this book taught her about storytelling, and how her daughter diagnosed her as "expectation-allergic." We also discuss how she's been cheating on comics with spoken word storytelling, what life after memoir is like, how her breast-cancer memoir doubled as a last will & testament for her family, the process of finding a new creative process and narrative voice, her shamanic experience attending The Moth, the significance of the tarot card she repeatedly draws when she's hard at work on a book, why the folk names of herbs are like edible emotion, and more. In honor of Tomi Ungerer and the current Three Robbers exhibit at The Rabbit Hole going on right now (to say nothing of their upcoming symposium celebrating The Three Robbers and Tomi's legacy and featuring presenters from around the world on November 14 and 15, 2025), I thought it prudent to revisit Mr. Ungerer once more. And what better way to do so than to look at what may be one of his few books that has remained in print from Day One.
In this episode of IDD Health Matters, Dr. Craig Escudé is joined by Ricardo Ortega and Babar Nawaz of iCare Manager—an innovative electronic health record (EHR) company revolutionizing care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Together, they explore how technology can improve efficiency, documentation, and most importantly, the quality of care delivered by providers across 25 states and counting. Topics include: The origin and mission of iCare Manager Addressing compliance across state systems EHR systems built by providers, for providers How AI can improve outcomes and efficiency The importance of person-centered planning and funding in the IDD space Whether you're a provider, administrator, or simply passionate about inclusive healthcare, this episode offers powerful insight into how technology and compassion can go hand-in-hand to support people with IDD.

Along the way, I've faced challenges, learned valuable lessons, and celebrated successes, each step shaping my belief that technology should be simple, beautiful, and a true return on investment.I'm passionate about helping founders harness technology to fuel their growth and am committed to sharing the lessons I've learned to help them succeed. Outside of entrepreneurship, I'm a sports enthusiast, avid traveler, and lifelong learner, constantly exploring new cultures, particularly in South America and Asia. I'm excited to inspire others to embrace innovation, overcome obstacles, and build the future they envision.Instagram https://instagram.com/buildwithbabarr?igshid=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA==Facebook https://www.facebook.com/babar.arshad1?mibextid=ZbWKwLLinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/babararshadYouTube https://youtube.com/@buildwithbabar?si=YjQjBvP-wZCSH4enWebsite https://buildwithbabar.com/The Pakistan Experience is an independently produced podcast looking to tell stories about Pakistan through conversations.
