Just squeezing in to January, it's our Best Bits 2023. It was such a blast listening back to the interviews we've had over the last year. It honestly made me want to go back and revisit all of these conversations again in full. So, I hope you enjoy this short dip back into the past. From Alison Spittle, explaining the huge part Morrissey played in her early Crush-life (before he let us all down), to Juliet Cowan sharing my passion for Union Leader Mick Lynch, via Rosie Jones talking about using stand up to help her talk about her sexuality honestly for the first time, and Sali Hughes and Caitlin Moran talking about the love that dare not speak it's name (could you have sexual feelings for a sash window?). And of course my favourite bit from the special anniversary episode with husband of the podcast, Dan Tetsell. A patient, patient, man. We've got some lovely episodes coming up in 2024 - Lou Sanders, Elizabeth Day and Sarah Hadland in the next few weeks, and a special Valentine's Day episode with Isy Suttie for V-Day itself. Stay tuned! (Can you tune a podcast?) And come and join the Substack if you haven't. Even just the free bit, as it means we can send you the occasional email when something super exciting happens. You can also join us there for the subscriber-only ad-free version of the show, if ads aren't your thing. Thanks for listening in 2023. Please keep listening in 2024. Love you! Aka, Mr Margaret Cabourn-Smith. And Happy Birthday Crushed - it's a whole year since we released the first episode. It's a special birthday episode, with Margaret put on the spot by her husband, and guest, Dan Tetsell. Dan is a writer and actor who you may have seen in everything from puppet-actor-fest Mongrels to hot-actor-fest Hollyoaks (and most recently Eastenders). He's also Margaret's husband - and the man who has to live with her crushes on a day to day basis. Is that hard? He'll let us know. They talk about his crushes - from school to screen, and the Christmas Crushed Calendar he makes Margaret every year, featuring her latest pashes. Which frankly should be merch (note to self, ask Dan how many can he make...) It's hard to believe it's been a whole year of Crushed. Thank YOU so much for listening, for supporting it, and to everyone who has left kind words on Twitter, reviews on podcasting apps or followed us on Instagram or subscribed to our bloody Substack - thank you, thank you, thank you. Honestly - it makes us feel so happy to have you with us. We have lots of plans for the show this year. Our first live date is on sale now here: https://machcomedyfest.co.uk/show/2023/margaret-cabourn-smith-crushed-by-margaret-cabourn-smith/ More to follow when we can book them in. Margaret's article looking back at the show is here: https://crushedbymcs.substack.com/p/one-year-on (Yes, it's on Substack, we're not obsessed it's just Twitter seems to be on fire at the moment, so we thought we'd better branch out). We'd love to hear from you. You can email us: crushedbymcs@gmail.com Or find us on Twitter or Insta @CrushedbyMCS Or sign up for the bloody Substack and then we can send you occasional emails to let you know about things like the live shows. No pressure. Til next time, Team Crushed xx

Retro AIOTM #25 - It’s May 30th 2011 and AIOTM’s silver jubilee 25th ep. To think that Canadian baby of unknown gender is now 9 and the world has caught up a bit with its parents gender concerns. It’s a long, long ep. Hope you enjoy it. If you do, why not become a monthly badger at http://twitch.tv/rkherring or preorder Richard’s new book, The Problem With Men from wherever you preorder your books. As It Occurs To Me: Series 3, Episode 3: It's the 25th episode of AIOTM (aiotm) and the silver jubilee is marked with a new 'umpkin'. If you think it's cumpkins or dumpkins then you have to get with it grandad! And Rich has more than half an eye on the listeners of the future. He has also become disturbed by the Canadian couple who won't reveal the sex of their baby (is it as disturbing as Baby Massage? The babies seem to think so) and has been recognised in Amsterdam airport (but who has he been recognised as?).Emma is gate-crashing literary festivals and Dan has been enjoying some odd time with his family, whilst Christian may be close to being friends with the actual factual Lembit Opik. The audience for once come good and provide some spectacular tales of stuff that has occurred to them. This week's Moral Maze has to be heard to be believed and has consequences that could only have been predicted by the strangest person on earth, but demonstrates why the public should not be allowed to make decisions about anything of any importance. One of the characters has written a diary and Richard is halfway through the series without having had a nervous breakdown, but it can't be far off. Some of the accents in this show will make Cheryl Cole seem like the voice of 1950s BBC. And if Dan Tetsell gives you a cucumber, don't eat it. It's the longest AIOTM (aiotm) yet and maybe the funniest and you will learn things about penis enlargement that you might not want to know. But it'd be even funnier if you'd come and seen it live. People came from America, Mumbai and Salisbury to see this show. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Anna Mann - the actress to end all acting - returns with a new look podcast! This week Anna’s old pal Margaret Cabourn-Smith has managed to drag along her husband Dan Tetsell, absolute star of Hollyoaks and a comedy hero of us all. Retro AIOTM #11 all the way back 10 years and 12 days to May 17th 2010 to find out what the young whippersnapper Richard Herring and the team are up to. Will they be driving to Barnard Castle to test their eyesight or wishing they could get their hair cut? I doubt it, because they lived in the happy beforetimes. And yet still they complained, the dolts. As It Occurs To Me: Series 2, Episode 1: Sony nominated AIOTM (AIOTM) returns for its second series. In show one, 'Richard Merring' forms an uneasy coalition and progressive alliance with Dan Tetsell and Emma Kennedy in the hope that they can curb his worst excesses. But it's a spring clean and all the old favourites are being purged. No cumpkins, no Quantum Leap and definitely NO Tiny Andrew Collings (aside: not unless he can somehow sneak his way in). You'll have to listen to find out if Richard made his flight back from the island of Cornwall in time for the show (aside: he did), if the show won any awards (aside: it didn't), and if anything amusing has happened to Tetsell in the last five months (aside: it hasn't, though he does nearly fall asleep at one point in the show, due to the rigours of being a father to a young baby). Is Richard super famous in Liverpool? What is worse than finding five men's sperm in your jack o' lantern? And can a man ever truly be in love with a lift if they are speaking different languages? And what will happen if we say we're going to blow Robin Hood Airport sky high? We might have to wait to find out about that last one. Who cares anyway when Christian Reilly is on an impossible mission to sort out the Greek economy? It's brilliant (aside: it's not. It's shit). Series 1 episode 5 - Back to 9th November 2009 for this retro AIOTM which we’re repeating to raise some money for the cast and the comedians justgiving page - https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hecklethevirusMade at a time where pushing back boundaries was in comedy vogueShow 5 of AIOTM is an offensiveness special. Rich gives his definitive thoughts on where the boundaries of comedy lie and decides the only way forward is to become more offensive. Along the way we discover too much about cumpkins, Keith Chegwin's cock, Emma Kennedy's grandad, Dan Tetsell's hatred of personalised novels, Christian Riley's live of dinosaur rock, and experience Richard's second great yoghurt based masterwork. It's quite a good one. Hope you don't view it as a slap in the face. But if you don't, you're clearly not a genuine comedy fan! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Series 1 - episode 2 - Take a step back in time with us to a simpler time in 2009, when Richard Herring, Dan Tetsell, Emma Kennedy and Christian Reilly got together once a week to perform a hastily written and poorly rehearsed sketch show. The cast were never paid at the time, so we are putting this out to raise some ad revenue to give them all (not Rich) a fee to help them through these dark weeks of no work. We will also be donating to the comedians’ just giving fund at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hecklethevirus - and you can donate tooAs It Occurs To Me: Series 1, Episode 2In the second episode of As It Occurs To Me, the audience is in danger of being swept away in a gigantic balloon, we get celebrity endorsements from Jan Moir, Jenson Button and Leona Lewis, we find out how people are prejudiced against people that they wrongly assume are racist and Rich reveals his strange Nando's paranoia and his unusual linguistic diet. A chance to listen to this ragbag of a podcast originally broadcast starting in October 2009 and based on the stuff that had happened and occurred to Richard Herring in that week - written at speed, barely rehearsed. It’s better than you’d think it would be.And this time it comes with ads so we can raise some money to make more podcasts, finally pay the cast to help them through this time and put some money into the fund to help comedians with no work through this tricky time. And all you have to do is listen to it.We will release a new episode every Friday so you can relive a happier time.To support Emma Kennedy - BUY HER BOOKSTo support Christian Reilly - BUY HIS DOWNLOADTo support Dan Tetsell - petition Hollyoaks for a return of his (admittedly dead) characterAs It Occurs To Me: Series 1, Episode 1In the first episode of As It Occurs To Me, Richard discusses his week which includes a visit to Berlin to find out about David Hasselhoff's potential to solve all the world's problems, Snow White's 8th and 9th dwarves, Emma Kennedy's audition for Mamma Mia, Dan Tetsell nearly being sick on his baby, Channel 5 turning into an exploitative casino and how the ghost of Stewart Lee haunts him in his dreamscape. With The One Show on a World-Cup-based-hiatus (apart from us, absolutely no-one - NO-ONE - minds. Not even Alex), it's time for a self-congratulatory trip down memory lane. So ahead of Season 2, it can only be....The Best of The The One Show Show! Thanks to all of our Season 1 guests: Jay Rayner, Cornelius Mendez, Chris Heath, Jon Riley, Dave Cribb, Ellie Clifford, Dan Tetsell, Nico Tatarowicz, Jake Yapp, Joel Morris, John Rain and Julia Raeside. Some of these people don't appear in this Best Of, not because they weren't GREAT but because Marc hasn't saved the relevant episodes on his memory stick. Hands up, this doesn't bode well for the future of saving these priceless audio artefacts for the nation. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The excellent actors and writers Dan Tetsell (on Twitter at @tetsell) and Nico Tatarowicz (@nicotatz) join Jon Holmes and Marc Haynes for this week's dank trudge through the last week of The One Show. On this episode: Alex seemingly gives into one of Matt's sordid demands, a famous Muslim is taunted with food, Dr Alice Roberts presents a monster she's made and orchids. Loads of stupid orchids. It can only be....The The One Show Show! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

He recommends The Great British Baking Show. Sophie wants to plug her stand up show Diet Woke and recommends the newest Janelle Monáe album Dirty Computer. Dan wants to plug his wife’s upcoming show at the Edinburgh Film Festival and recommends the Netflix comedy series The Letdown. And finally, Dave Holmes is on Twitter @DaveHolmes and his book, Party of One is available now in paperback. AIOTM Video Series #6 - Repo Mann. It's the final episode of the series and there's a hostage situation to resolve. I expect they will manage that. And, if they do, then you can will get to see the first kniforkoon off the production line, the true story of the Song of Sixpence and how Richard's obsession with toaster robots resolves. Christian bids a final (surely) farewell to the AIOTM franchise, Emma recounts the tale of a woman who pooed herself in front of a delivery driver and Dan Tetsell shows a surprising knowledge of the intricacies of time travel. Plus introducing exciting new acting talent Ross Mann. Here's his Spotlight Page - http://www.spotlight.com/3418-9051-0224. Employ him in any way you see fit. Plus stories of the magical town of Fleet, creepy Uncle's Pawnbroker and the dangers of mispronouncing the names of popular spreads. And find out what becomes of the romance betwixt Rich and Aberham Lincoln. It may have repercussions. You can see longer episodes of all the shows in this series, with a good 20 mins of extra material in each show (including, in show 6, a delightful accent-off between Rich and Ross Mann that might be the funniest thing in the whole series). You can either become a monthly badger and view the episodes (as well as all the existing and future backstage interviews from RHLSTP) at www.gofasterstripe.com/badges or get an AIOTM series pass (including all six long episodes, bloopers, cut scenes, interviews and more) at www.gofasterstripe.com/aiotm (where you can also purchase a selection of T shirts, DVDs or a tea towel). If you liked the series and didn't contribute to the kickstarter, please consider donating something. The money will go towards making even more internet content. Thanks to everyone who backed the kickstarter or subscribed to the channel. Hope you think it was worth it. Thank God it's over. Now let's never do anything as stupid as this again.
AIOTM Video Series #4: Barbara. Has becoming a dad meant that Richard has lost his comedy mojo? Only you can decide (but the answer seems to be yes). Having finally got rid of the dead wood of Emma Kennedy and getting back the dead wood of Dan Tetsell, Rich turns his attention to how constitutional revenge porn is and meets the couple whose decision to back out of selling him their house has created two very different possible futures (have you seen the film Sliding Doors?). There is some very tender and beautiful love-making betwixt Rich and his toaster robot and Tiny Baby Anus turn their attention to Baa Baa Black Sheep. Christian Reilly sings about Paul Hewson and the naughty dog is back, as the cast become largely replaced by puppets. Abraham Lincoln might be in there somewhere, who knows? Best listened to whilst vainly trying to find the website for http://carer.io (if you are part of the very specific demographic that would need it). You can see longer versions of all 6 episodes right now by subscribing at gofasterstripe.com/aiotm (plus loads of cool extras) or by becoming a monthly badger at www.gofasterstripe.com/badges. Dan Tetsell is back after his unexplained absence and the team (even producer Ben) have all been given kickstarter t-shirts (there are a few surplus ones available to buy at www.gofasterstripe.com PLUS the Cumpkin Tea Towel - the perfect Christmas gift). There is stuff about who was the real hero in Spartacus, the last person from the 1800s, The Cat in the Hat, Ferrero Rocher, a fitting tribute to a late Anus Arsehole and an amazing TWO Christmas songs from Christian Reilly. Plus the birth of a new cartoon character who is bound to become a perennial Christmas favourite. Itttt's Chriiiiiiissssssssttttttmaaaaas!

Danielle and David have been to see 'Mi4: Ghost Protocol' and are now IMAX converts. Comedian and writer Dan Tetsell has brought in the 1943 production of 'Munchhausen' to talk about.
Rich is a bit hungover and still reeling from having walked through the streets of Edinburgh on a Saturday night, seeing fights and sick and men on their own being weirdly impressed to see him. He's just thankful he didn't get punched. It's a mini-AIOTM (aiotm) and TWTTIN (twttin) reunion today, with King Herod actor Dan Tetsell, who just seems relieved to be away from his daughter's shitting arse. He has some script-writing tips and stories of Edinburgh embarrassments, whilst Rich recalls the romantically turbulent year of 2004 when he dated 50 women in 50 days for the 12 Tasks of Hercules Terrace. Stand-up from Lee Camp. It's got a bit of a postprandial Sunday afternoon feel to it.
It's the 25th episode of AIOTM (aiotm) and the silver jubilee is marked with a new 'umpkin'.
Sony nominated AIOTM (AIOTM) returns for its second series. It's shit).
Show 5 of AIOTM is an offensiveness special.
In the first episode of As It Occurs To Me, Richard discusses his week which includes a visit to Berlin to find out about David Hasselhoff's potential to solve all the world's problems, Snow White's 8th and 9th dwarves, Emma Kennedy's audition for Mamma Mia, Dan Tetsell nearly being sick on his baby, Channel 5 turning into an exploitative casino and how the ghost of Stewart Lee haunts him in his dreamscape. It's a solid start, but things can only get better. Surely.
