This week on The KOKO Show we get our Swoopy back from his impromptu golfing trips to make the group whole again as we break down a wonderful week that was in the world of rugby. The lads came together to run a fine tooth comb through the Super Rugby W Final that saw the Tahs tackle the Reds at North Sydney Oval, to make it back to back chips in 2024 and 25. Plus, we go large on round 9 of the Superb Rugby Pacific, highlighting the Brumbies big win over the Reds, the Tahs toppling the challenging Chiefs and the Crusaders taking their rightful place back on top of the Super ladder. Moreover, the boys go full business mode as they tackle all the hard hitting topics in a saucy smattering of Other Rugby News. However, the highlight of Episode 17 has to be our very special guest, all the way from the fortified walls of Edinburgh Castle with his new Whiskey in hand and donning a gorgeously snug pair of togs, it is Scotland's South African chunky chappy Mr Pierre Schoeman. We discuss everything from the state of rugby north of the wall, what it was like growing up in South Africa and now proudly playing for Scotland and finally his delicious little side business he shares with teammate and friend Duhan van der Merwe. So sit back, relax and hook up your IV drip full of Hirundine Whiskey and just let those mellow smokey notes of four flogs trying to make a rugby pod fill your gills with glee. Because it is time for episode 17 of Kick Offs and Kick Ons. Tourism is undergoing a groundbreaking transformation as the world confronts the challenges of over-tourism and cultural degradation. Iconic destinations like Spain and Greece have seen protests against overcrowding, skyrocketing living costs, and the strain seasonal tourism places on local communities. In response, SITEnetwork is reshaping the future of travel through its innovative use of blockchain, AI, and Virtual Reality. At the heart of this vision is the XPEDITION Token (XPED), a revolutionary digital currency designed to create a sustainable, community-focused tourism ecosystem. Empowering Communities and Preserving Heritage with creative tourism SITEnetwork is pioneering this initiative in Edinburgh, Scotland, home to globally recognized landmarks like Edinburgh Castle. However, rather than replicating these sites as lifeless digital constructs, SITEnetwork is empowering locals to use smartphone cameras to create highly detailed 3D models of their streets and monuments. This approach ensures that communities retain control over their cultural narratives and derive direct economic benefits from tourism. Graeme Stevens, SITEnetwork's Chief Commercial Officer, captures this sentiment, stating, "People crave authenticity, not fabricated experiences. By giving communities the tools to digitize their environments, we ensure they control their stories and reap the rewards." This bold vision goes far beyond visual accuracy. SITEnetwork employs AI to fill in gaps in these models, even recreating historically informed environments. Residents can enhance these digital spaces with unique local stories and hidden gems, providing travelers with an unmatched sense of place. Damian Pike, the CEO of SITEnetwork, emphasizes, "Over-tourism can render places unlivable for locals, while under-tourism deprives hidden gems of much-needed economic activity. By returning control to communities, we're ensuring a more balanced and equitable tourism economy." The XPED token is central to this initiative, functioning as a universal digital currency that simplifies transactions for travelers and locals alike. XPED allows visitors to book tours, engage with local guides, and even revisit destinations virtually to purchase unique products they may have missed during their trip. Stevens notes, "XPED seamlessly connects the physical and virtual worlds of tourism, empowering creators and communities to benefit directly." This model has global potential. SITEnetwork's innovative approach not only addresses over-tourism in major cities like Venice and Rome but also brings underexplored locations into the spotlight. David Sime, SITEnetwork's Chief Technical Officer, highlights its scalability, saying, "This isn't just about technology; it's about solving real-world problems and fostering deeper connections between people and places." Recognized for its potential, Sime has been invited by the United Nations to contribute to its Citiverse initiative, aimed at using emerging technologies to redefine urban development and tourism. As SITEnetwork looks to expand beyond Edinburgh to cities like Miami, its framework demonstrates cultural adaptability and scalability. By combining AI-driven digital twins with blockchain governance, SITEnetwork is setting new standards for sustainable, immersive tourism. The initial private sale of the XPED token sold out within 72 hours, raising €123,000, with a public launchpad sale scheduled for February. Tourism is entering an exciting new era where the experiences of travelers are enriched, the voices of locals are amplified, and the preservation of cultural heritage becomes a shared priority. SITEnetwork is leading this transformation, making travel not only more authentic but also more equitable, sustainable, and inspiring. See more breaking stories here.

Today's Destination is: Edinburgh, Scotland Today's Misstep- Too much of a good thing Travel Advice: Eat early, rest early FAQ: How do I remember to stretch while on the road? Answer: Tips for Remembering to Stretch: Set Phone Reminders: Schedule gentle reminders on your phone for morning and evening stretches. This way, it's a built-in routine, just like brushing your teeth. Tie it to Daily Activities: Stretch after sitting for long periods, like after a meal or a bus/train ride. This helps to break up stiffness and becomes part of your rhythm. Use Cues in Your Environment: Place visual cues like a stretchy band or even a scarf in plain sight to remind you to stretch or exercise. Wind Down with Evening Stretches: A simple stretching routine before bed helps with relaxation and keeps you consistent. Today's destination: Edinburgh, Scotland, It's got to be one of the favorite places in Europe for great walkable cities. There are hills, though, which can be challenging. I was there in July, right before the Fringe Festival, which is in August. This is a very busy time for tourists, and they say the city gets clogged up. To maximize my visit, I chose the hop-on, hop-off tour bus, which allowed me to take three different routes for 24 hours, so I spread it over two days. Edinburgh is safe for solo travelers, but as with any city, keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas. Edinburgh weather can change rapidly. Dress in layers, and carry a light rain jacket or umbrella. If you are hearty and want a challenge, Hike Arthur's Seat, a small hill, which will take 2-2.5 hours, with a great view. It's Stop 13 on the Green tour, Of course you want to see Edinburgh castle, the National Museum (free) and Gallery. Oh, and see Parliament, too. Recommend Carlton Hill, with National Monument. They still shoot off canons here daily. Here are my top recommendations: Edinburgh Castle. visit the city's most famous landmark with a breathtaking view over Edinburgh. You'll see the Crown Jewels of Scotland , the mint, and the Stone of Destiny. Consider taking a guided tour to learn more about the castle's history. Arrive early in the day to avoid crowds. Royal Mile Stroll, for basic people-watching and shopping. Why Visit: The Royal Mile connects Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace, offering charming cobblestone streets, historic buildings, churches, shops, and cafes. Stop in for a mass if it's your jam, and see a religious service here at St. Giles. Tips: Take your time exploring the side streets and grab a coffee in a cozy café along the way. You may even stop in the Harry Potter neighborhood, Diiagon Alley, Victoria Street, like I did. Mentioned earlier, Arthur's Seat Hike. Why Visit: Arthur's Seat offers a gentle trail and panoramic views of the city and coastline. It's free, and it's a great place for those who enjoy light hiking. Tips: Choose the easiest route (via Dunsapie Loch) if you want a less strenuous climb. Bring a windbreaker; it can get windy at the top. Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Why Visit: This peaceful oasis is perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll among exotic plants and beautifully landscaped gardens. I loved this place and the park across the street, it was not on the touristy lists. Britannia Port is nearby, too. Princes Street Gardens Located right in the city's heart, these gardens are ideal for a leisurely walk with views of the castle and great nature-loving. It's hard to miss this neighborhood. Hey folks, welcome to the latest episode of the Ecosystem Member podcast. We've got a really great episode for you today with musician, writer and nature campaigner, Sam Lee. If you aren't familiar with Sam, he is a Mercury Prize-nominated folk musician who has broken through to the mainstream. His latest album ‘songdreaming' earned a five-star review from The Guardian and was named Mojo's Album of the Month. When I set out to explore the relationships humans have with nature and the more-than-human world, I wasn't sure what I'd find. Many of these relationships are based on taking resources or inspiration from nature, but Sam's relationship with the nightingale is one of collaboration - across several mediums. In addition to collaborating with the nightingale on songs like ‘Bushes & Briars & Birds', which is part of the EarthPercent and Sounds Right initiative to credit and financially recognize through royalties the more-than-human world as a musical contributor, Sam runs immersive events every spring called ‘Singing With Nightingales', where seekers can join Sam and a guest musician to delve into the forest at night and sing with the nightingales. It sounds like a truly magical experience that we discuss in more depth in the podcast. Sam also wrote the book ‘The Nightingale: Notes on a Songbird' that was called the nature book of the year when it was released in 2021 and has collaborated with organizations like Emergence Magazine, Huck and On the Edge to create films around his connection with the nightingale. What's worrying is that the UK is on track to lose the nightingale entirely within the next 40 years. Future generations may not even have the chance to connect and collaborate with the nightingale, making it all the more important that we connect people with it now so we can understand what we might be losing. Make sure to visit Sam's website at samleesong.co.uk and follow him on Instagram at samleesong. He's got some amazing events coming up. Tickets are on sale today - November 27 - at for Signing with the Nightingales 2025, and he'll be performing in the coming months at venues including Edinburgh Castle and Royal Albert Hall. Huge thanks to Sam for taking time to chat. I got a bit rambly in my questions as I am a big fan of Sam's music and was just a little nervous to say the least, but I really hope you enjoy the outcome. And if you are intrigued by the idea of Earthpercent and Sounds Right, make sure to stay tuned as we'll have more artists on who have participated in this effort. You can find about more about EarthPercent at earthpercent.org and on Instagram at @earthpercent. It is really the music industry's climate foundation was was founded by the legendary musician and creative catalyst Brian Eno. And what's really cool is that anyone in music - not just the musician, so think promoters and venue artists - can work with EarthPercent to include Earth as a stakeholder in their activities. All of the money raised is distributed to fund climate solutions by an Expert Advisory panel of leading climate scientists, researchers and advisors. Let me take you on a tour down one of the most famous streets in Edinburgh, the Royal Mile, popping into all the Places that tourists tend not to go, the alleyways or Closes as we call them in Scotland. It gives a fascinating insight into medieval Edinburgh with murder, ghosts, crime and disease emanating from every crevice of the ancient stone walls that remain today. I'll touch upon the reason for Old Edinburgh being so tightly packed together and why it was so easy for disease to spread. Fortunately we still have one of the 16th Century buildings standing on the Royal Mile, Gledstanes land, beautifully restored by the National Trust for Scotland and wedged between two famous closes, James Court and Lady Stair's Close. We will hear from Will Evans, one of the managers at the property. You will hear about the more famous characters of Edinburgh such as Adam Smith, David Hume and Patrick Gedes as well as the infamous characters such as Deacon Brodie. With over 80 Closes to choose from, I will give you a flavour of life in a few of them from both a rich and a poor person's perspective. Old Edinburgh is a place where hundreds of witches were burned to death, only a stone's throw from one of the most prestigious restaurants in the city. We will be heading back, in some cases, to the 16th century, venturing into the darker recesses of Old Edinburgh where, I think, even angels might fear to tread. Come and join me on this journey into Edinburgh city's past and meet some of the characters that lived there in the 16th and 17th centuries.
I do some boots on the ground work in Scotland, UK. I take a visit to Edinburgh Castle to see melted and burned stone, as well as walk around the rest of the country searching for mysterious hidden history! EDINBURGH CASTLE EDINBURGH CASTLE is an almost impregnable fortress perched upon an extinct volcano, right in the middle of Scotland's Capital city, Edinburgh. This podcast is the third in a four part series where I've already covered the Old and the New Towns and, in this Podcast, I will be taking you on a tour with me to the top of Edinburgh Castle, an incredible fortification that has been subject to 23 sieges in its 1000 year history, the most besieged castle in Europe. I'm also pleased to be joined by Lieutenant Colonel David Jack, the Royal Scots Regimental Secretary who will explain the connection between the Royal Scots infantry regiment and the Castle. In this Podcast you will travel back in time to the first fortification built around 4,000 years ago then right up until the present day. I'll be explaining why a fortification was first built on this extinct volcano and why it has remained a fortress to this day. You will hear how it all began and then, fast forwarding you will hear about the part the Castle played in the Wars of Independence as well as the Jacobite rebellion resulting in the building of the Argyll Battery of guns to defend against these supporters of James VII. And the one o'clock gun – why is it fired every day to shake Edinburgh to its roots, and we will look inside the military prison and who the inmates were. And all that before we arrive at Crown square with the Royal Palace, now housing the Crown Jewels of Scotland or using their correct title, the Honours of Scotland. I'll also be telling you about St Mary's chapel, the oldest building in Edinburgh and how it has survived the ravages of time from Robert the Bruce in the 14th Century up until the modern day. And who is the Grey Lady ghost who enjoys frightening tourists from time to time….. All will be revealed.
This week on WDDD? La Shaunda delves into the sinister tale of Lewis Hutchinson, better known as the "Mad Doctor of Edinburgh Castle." Lewis Hutchinson was no ordinary physician. From horrifying surgeries performed without anesthesia to macabre rituals conducted under the cover of darkness, the Mad Doctor's laboratory was a chamber of horrors that defied imagination. Two small noble boys are caught up in the political machinations of their elders, with deadly consequences. Sounds like the Princes in the Tower, right? Nope. What is your router's name? Amy tells us about William Palmer. He liked to dabble with some poison and was not a very good gambler. He took out a loan with a 60% interest rate! This shocked us more than all the deaths that happened around him. Bri tells us about the Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. I swear Bri told this just because it's a large source for inspiration for the Harry Potter series. BUUT, regardless, the history is thick and amazing. Which means there are A LOT of dead souls. INCLUDING a lost bagpiper.
This Podcast is the first in a 4 Part series on Edinburgh City, the Capital of Scotland. It will look at Edinburgh from its early beginnings right up to today with stories of gentlemen by day and thieves by night. It will highlight some of the most prominent buildings on the Royal Mile and, when talking about St Giles Cathedral, you will hear a desperate story of some of the inhabitants who were buried in the old Graveyard. Who was Deacon Brodie and why was Robert Louis Stevenson so intrigued by this man. Who was Rizzio, secretary to Mary Queen of Scots and who was Clarinda whose romantic, yet mournful song is still so well known today. Would you walk down an alleyway with the possibility of the contents of a chamber pot (toilet) being emptied on your head? It happened in the Old Town - find out why!
This is a special partnership episode of Scran with the Scotch Whisky Experience. Nestled on Castle Hill, within a stones throw of Edinburgh Castle, the Scotch Whisky Experience has been welcoming visitors from all over the world since the late 80s - a time when the world of whisky was very, very different to what it is now. Rosalind went along to experience this popular tour and speak to some of the people in the know about how it came about, what it has to offer and how it has played a not insignificant role in nurturing much of the talent found in the whisky industry today. Rosalind chats to Angela Dineen, Operations Director about the history of the experience as well as modern undertakings, including the recent investment of £3.5m into a new tour and how it houses one of the world's largest collections of scotch whisky. She also speaks to Michelle Pizzi, Site Director of The North British Distillery and Alex Thomson, Visitor Attraction Manager at The Glenturret Distillery who share their memories of their time working at the Scotch Whisky Experience and how it helped shape their future careers in the industry. They offer some great insight into working in this thriving industry and how the Scotch Whisky Experience has played its part in their careers. On Christmas day in 1950, the Stone of Scone was removed, heist-style, from Westminster Abbey. Some believed it to be an act of theft, and others, liberation. E84: We've got another long episode for ya! This week, Ivy talks about another famous Scotland haunt complete with tales of treason, murder, and of course plenty of ghosts. Arthur's Seat is the ancient, extinct volcano that lies just a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. Myths cling to its peak like mist in the autumn, but one particular mystery is far from ancient. In 1836, some boys hunting rabbits on the hill found a strange hoard of miniature coffins hidden in a small cave. Each held a rudimentary figure, clad in fabric, its eyes open as it stared across the ages. Who did the figures represent? Why were they put there? And what theories have people come up with about this bizarre find? Let's find out in this week's episode of Fabulous Folklore!
