Managing Stressors in Relationships: How to Maintain a Calm Body and Build Stronger Connections - Hash It Out

Good Risings

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 27, 2023 31:52

Today, Liz discusses the impact of stress on our relationships and what we can do to maintain a calm body when others share their stress with us. First, let's define what we mean by stress. Stress is defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. In relationships, stress can manifest in various ways such as communication breakdown, lack of intimacy, and increased conflict. According to the Gottman Institute, "Stress and conflict are inevitable in any relationship, but how couples respond to stress and conflict is what makes the difference between a healthy or unhealthy relationship." This means that it's not necessarily the stress itself that causes problems in a relationship, but rather how we handle it. One way to maintain a calm body when others share their stress with us is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the current moment. By being mindful, we can avoid getting caught up in our own thoughts and reactions, and instead focus on listening and understanding the other person's perspective. Another tip for maintaining a calm body is to practice self-care. Self-care includes activities that promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This can include things like exercise, meditation, or simply taking a break when you need it. In addition, it's important to set boundaries in relationships. This means being honest with yourself and others about what you can and cannot handle. It's important to remember that you are responsible for your own well-being and it's okay to say no to things that are not good for you. Finally, it's important to remember that communication is key in any relationship. According to the Gottman Institute, "The most successful couples are those who communicate openly and effectively with one another." This means being willing to share your thoughts and feelings, and actively listening to the other person's perspective. In conclusion, stress is a natural part of any relationship, but it's important to remember that how we handle it is what makes the difference. By practicing mindfulness, self-care, setting boundaries, and communicating openly, we can maintain a calm body and build stronger, healthier relationships. Good Risings is a mindset. In this episode, we dive into the topic of embodiment and why it is essential for a fulfilling spiritual life. We will be discussing the importance of connecting with our physical bodies in order to connect with our spiritual selves, and how incorporating embodiment practices can deepen our spiritual practices. One famous quote that sums up the importance of embodiment in spirituality comes from the spiritual teacher, Eckhart Tolle, who said: "The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in." This quote highlights the idea that our physical bodies are not separate from our spiritual selves, but rather they are intertwined. By taking care of our physical bodies, we are also taking care of our spiritual selves. Another quote that relates to this topic comes from the spiritual teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, who said: "To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don't need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself." This quote emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and self-love in our spiritual journey. By embracing and loving our physical bodies, we can better connect with our spiritual selves. In this episode, we will be discussing various embodiment practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindful movement, and how they can aid in the process of connecting with our physical and spiritual selves. We will also be talking about the importance of self-care and self-acceptance in our spiritual journey. We hope you will join us on this exploration of embodiment and spirituality, and come away with a deeper understanding of the importance of connecting with our physical bodies in order to deepen our spiritual practices. 5 Essential Components of a Healthy Diet: Understanding Calories, Macronutrients, and Micronutrients - Grateful Grains

Good Risings

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 9, 2023 40:04

Welcome to the Good Risings podcast! In today's episode, we will be discussing the basics of a healthy diet. Calories: A calorie is a unit of energy that is used to measure the amount of energy in food. Macronutrients: These are the nutrients that your body needs in large amounts to function properly. There are three types of macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Protein: Protein is an essential nutrient that is important for building and repairing tissues in your body. It is also important for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails. Good sources of protein include meat, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts. Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy. They can be found in a variety of foods, including grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. It is important to choose complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, over simple carbs like white bread and pasta, as they provide more nutrients and are slower to digest. Fats: Fats are an important source of energy and are necessary for the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. However, it is important to choose healthy fats, such as those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil, over unhealthy fats like trans fats and saturated fats. Micronutrients: These are the nutrients that your body needs in smaller amounts, but are still essential for good health. There are two types of micronutrients: vitamins and minerals. Vitamins: Vitamins are essential for maintaining good health and can be found in a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Some common vitamins include vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Minerals: Minerals are essential for maintaining good health and can be found in a variety of foods, including meats, dairy products, and whole grains. Some common minerals include iron, calcium, and zinc. In summary, a healthy diet should include a balance of calories and a variety of macronutrients and micronutrients. By including a variety of healthy foods in your diet, you can ensure that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs to function properly. Thank you for tuning in to the Good Risings podcast! The Psychology of Change in the New Year! - Hash It Out

Good Risings

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 4, 2023 36:10

In this episode of The Good Risings podcast, Liz explore's the psychology behind the process of change. Liz discusses the various stages that individuals go through as they work to change their behaviors and habits, and how understanding these stages can help us better support ourselves and others as we work towards our goals. First, we delve into the concept of precontemplation, or the stage in which an individual is not yet aware that they have a problem or are resistant to change. During this stage, it's important to educate and inform the individual about the benefits of making a change, and to provide resources and support to help them move forward. Next, we discuss the stage of contemplation, in which the individual begins to recognize the need for change but is still uncertain about whether or not to take action. This is a crucial stage in which the individual is weighing the pros and cons of making a change, and it's important to offer encouragement and support as they make this decision. After contemplation comes the stage of preparation, in which the individual starts to make concrete plans for change and takes small steps towards their goal. At this stage, it's important to provide support and accountability to help them stay on track and build momentum. The fourth stage is action, in which the individual actively works to implement the changes they have planned. This can be a challenging stage, and it's important to continue offering support and encouragement to help them stay motivated and on track. Finally, we discuss the stage of maintenance, in which the individual works to maintain the changes they have made and prevent any backsliding. This stage requires ongoing effort and support to help the individual stay committed to their new behaviors and habits. Overall, understanding the stages of change can help us better support ourselves and others as we work towards our goals, and can provide a roadmap for navigating the often challenging process of making positive changes in our lives. Sticking to it in the New Year! - Grateful Grains

Good Risings

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 2, 2023 31:18

Welcome to the Good Risings podcast, where we discuss all the topics you need to get motivated in the new year! In this episode, we'll be talking about five key areas to focus on in order to kickstart your year: getting in shape, kicking bad habits, saving money, optimizing self-care, and starting a healthier diet. First up, let's talk about getting in shape. Whether it's joining a gym, starting a new exercise routine, or simply going for a daily walk, there are so many ways to get your body moving and feeling its best. The key is to find something that you enjoy and that you can stick with over the long term. If you're struggling to get motivated, try setting small, achievable goals for yourself and celebrating your progress along the way. Next, let's talk about kicking bad habits. Whether it's smoking, procrastination, or overindulging in unhealthy foods, we all have habits that we'd like to break. The key to success is to identify the root causes of your bad habits and come up with strategies to overcome them. This might involve finding a support system, setting clear boundaries, or seeking professional help. Saving money is another important area to focus on in the new year. Whether you're trying to pay off debt, build up your savings, or simply live within your means, there are many strategies you can use to improve your financial situation. Start by setting clear financial goals for yourself and coming up with a budget that works for you. Look for ways to cut back on unnecessary expenses and find ways to earn extra money through side hustles or investing. Self-care is another crucial aspect of a healthy and balanced life. Whether it's getting enough sleep, taking time for yourself, or finding ways to de-stress, it's important to prioritize your own well-being. Try incorporating self-care practices into your daily routine, such as meditating, journaling, or taking a relaxing bath. Finally, let's talk about starting a healthier diet. Whether you're looking to lose weight, improve your energy levels, or simply feel better overall, a healthy diet is a key component. Start by focusing on whole, unprocessed foods and cutting back on added sugars and unhealthy fats. Try incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your meals and consider seeking the help of a nutritionist or dietitian if you need guidance. We hope these tips have inspired you to start the new year off on the right foot. Remember, it's never too late to make positive changes in your life and with a little dedication and motivation, you can achieve your goals and live a healthier, happier life. Withholding emotion is a dangerous tightrope. How can you express your emotions in a healthy way? Toxic masculinity is often a result of suppressed emotion in men. Those feelings bottle up and present themselves as stress. Suppressing emotions doesn't work. Practice brining awareness to your feelings by checking in with yourself. "I feel nervous, I feel uncomfortable, I feel terrified..." First accept that our feelings matter and let go of judgement. Good Risings is a mindset.
