What happens when you blend elements of hardcore, death metal and country? You get Spiritworld! Set in singer and multi-instrumentalist Stu Folsom's apocalyptic, vision of the American West, SpiritWorld is metal at its most rustic and blood drenched. Think Slayer and Pantera getting into a bar fight while gunslingers battle demonic entities amidst tomahawk like riffs. SpiritWorld emerged in 2017 as a musical outlet for Folsom's love of punk, outlaw country and metal, taking a decidedly outlaw roots punk bent. Yet, it was with the full-metal direction of the initially self-released Pagan Rhythms, (re-released in 2021 through SpiritWorld's new label home, Century Media) that won the band international acclaim. Daniel Carter, BBC 1 DJ and curator of The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter, as well as the likes of Exodus/Slayer guitarist Gary Holt and former Sepultura/current Soulfly leader Max Cavalera sang the album's praises on their social media, discovering the band on word-of-mouth alone. On today's episode we welcome the gentleman and scholar, Mr Daniel P. Carter to the podcast. The much celebrated radio broadcaster, musician, podcast host and all round top chap has a chat with Matt and Remfry about his Top 3 Lost Albums From The 90's. God bless the 90's. Dan is currently the host of the hugely popular Radio 1 Rock Show (currently on every Sunday, on Radio 1, between 9pm and 11pm), he hosts his own outstanding podcast ‘SWIM' (Someone Who Isn't Me) and is a musician appearing in bands like A, Krokodil, The Bloodhound Gang and Hexes to name but a few. He is also a fantastic painter and illustrator who has supplied art for a host of bands like HIM, Behemoth, Frank Iero, Black Foxxes and many more. So in short - he is a busy, busy man. Over in recommendation corner, our three amenable gents recommend a TV show, a video game and a new album before Remfry reneges on his amenable gent status and butts in with another record that reminds him of said recommended record … RUDE! This conversation was recorded at the tail end of 2020 (yikes) but is still filled with more brilliant music chat and recommendations than you can shake a stick at. Or something. Anyway, enjoy!

When he's not donning his iconic visor and gripping the mic in 'A', Jason Perry is a Grammy Award-winning producer helping bands make rousing records. We settle in to chat about the incredible power of music, how he approaches producing and what it felt like to play the Download Pilot a couple of weeks ago - a real, live festival with people moshing. We also discuss how we all hate Costa Coffee's branding before getting into the many, many questions you, our listening legends, wanted us to ask him. Before Jason rushes back from a breakfast with Daniel P. Carter to join us (we're important), we fantasise about what we'd do with our imaginary lottery winnings, dive into the living nightmare of ill-fitting shower enclosures and ponder the question on lips across the length and breadth of this strange island - is football really coming home?

My guest this week is Daniel P Carter. We had a proper laugh on this pod. Dan is probably most well known for being the presenter of the BBC Radio One Rock Show, and his podcast Someone Who Isn't Me (SWIM) but he's also been a guitarist in bands like A, Krokodil, The Bloodhound Gang and loads of others. We had a proper laugh on this pod. Dan's a very interesting guy, he's a mystical, magickal entity filled to the brim of ideas and esoteric ramblings....which I like. He's done it all. He's a top lad. See ya!

All That Divides. On this episode we speak to the singer of the band Black Peaks, Will Gardner. The band formed in 2012, initially under the name Shrine, and released a debut self-released EP Closer to the Sun in 2014. After a run of UK and European festivals and tours, the band signed to Sony for the release of their debut album Statues in 2016. The album was well received, and singles 'Glass Built Castles' and 'Saviour' brought the band support from Zane Lowe,Daniel P. Carter and daytime airplay on BBC Radio 1. This increased profile resulted in a busy touring schedule across 2016-2017, including dates supporting Deftones, System of a Down, The Dillinger Escape Plan,Prophets of Rage and Mastodon. Towards the end of 2017, the band announced that they had parted ways with bassist Andrew Gosden, replaced with new member Dave Larkin and were currently in the studio recording their second album, titled All That Divides. All That Divides was released in October 2018 and met with critical acclaim. Daniel P Carter speaks to record producer Ross Robinson, an innovator with a unique approach to making albums, who has recorded the likes of The Cure, Slipknot, Blood Brothers, Korn, Glassjaw, Norma Jean, Limp Bizkit, Klaxxons, Cancer Bats, Red Fang, Headwound City etc etc. His outlook / approach to making albums is a spiritual and esoteric one that has produced some groundbreaking albums that altered the course of heavy music as a whole. Sound quality on this one may be a little quiet because even though I EQ'ed out some of the background noise, I found that if I raised the levels too much the sound of the sea and assorted background became quite intrusive, so get your headphones on and enjoy... The painting I made of Ross for the cover was actually my second attempt, the other one seemed to have lost its way a bit, but I think this one sums it up well. Shout out to Monkeybird for helping this one come about. Also shout out to Carl. Carl is cool. As always, a review on iTunes is greatly appreciated...
