Jeremy Clark of Tracer Heights was in the house for Episode No. 128, and dang it if it isn't always refreshing to chat with a fellow Phishhead.Trust me: I'm not trying to pigeonhole Jeremy or say that that's all there is to say about him. There's a ton more. Rare is the opportunity, though.Anyway...Jeremy's a son and a brother and a bandmate and one heck of a sharp dude; I really enjoyed getting to know him a little bit. We talked a fair amount about Tracer Heights, what they're all about, and what his role as the bassist looks like. We also talked about a few of Jeremy's favorite albums. Those were these:Pet Sounds (1966), The Beach BoysNine Inch Nails' Broken (1992)Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness (1995), The Smashing PumpkinsThe Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin (1999)Person Pitch (2007), Panda BearSo, please check out our conversation. These chats are almost always awesome; this one was no exception. And please check out Tracer Heights. Find out more about them at tracerheights.com, on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Bandcamp. They're rock, blues, and bluegrass with the spirit of psychedelic improvisational music, and they're gigging often here in K.C.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. In 2017, Billy Corgan released his 2nd solo album, "Ogilala", but this time under the name William Patrick Corgan and with a much more organic and stripped-down sound. It's an album containing some of Corgan's best work and illustrates the power of his songwriting and ability to bend and shape the core of a song into the sound he envisions. Joining Frank as guest co-host is a long-time friend and Pumpkinhead, Dr. Thomas Whitfield. Thomas digs deep and uses his Ph.D. to help break down the lyrics with surgical detail. If getting super in-depth and nerdy diving into WPC lyrics is your bag, then this episode is for you! Frank and Thomas discuss being wary of people who aren't passionate about something/anything, hiding Mellon Collie and the Goosebumps books from religious parents, seeds of CYR and ATUM found in Ogilala and Thomas' “Special K” experience with the album. Plus a quick chat about the gorgeous short film, Pillbox, co-directed by Linda Strawberry. The Smashing Pumpkins' first two albums, Gish and Siamese Dream, were a huge part of the soundtrack for the early '90s alternative rock revolution. Still sounding revolutionary all these years later, the band's leader, Billy Corgan, recently brought the Smashing Pumpkins to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena for the Spirits on Fire tour, on the heels of their 11th studio album, Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts. The concept album is a sequel to the Smashing Pumpkins' definitive three-LP masterwork Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, from 1995—which also brought them crushing into the mainstream. Acts two and three of Atum are scheduled for January and April 2023. But meanwhile, there are live shows … and all the gear it takes to recreate more than three decades years of the band's signature sounds. PS: Special thanks to super-tech Trace Davis for his help with the fine points.Brought to you by D'Addario XPND Pedalboard.

Birthdays: Paul Gilbert of Mr. Big is 54 November 7 1975 - Elton John started a three-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart with Rock Of The Westies, the singer's tenth studio album and seventh U.S. No. 1. 1987 - Tiffany became the youngest act to score a U.S. No. 1 since Michael Jackson ("Ben", in 1972) with "I Think We're Alone Now". The song written by Ritchie Cordell was initially a 1967 hit for Tommy James & the Shondells. Fun fact: Tiffany hated the idea of recording a version of her own for her album because she thought the song wasn't modern or hip enough. Birthdays: Joni Mitchell is 79. November 8 1961 - The Beach Boys release their first single, "Surfin'." 1994 - A&M Records releases Woodstock 1994, an album documenting the Woodstock '94 festival that took place in Saugerties, New York, three months earlier. The two-disc set includes live performances from 27 artists, including Joe Cocker ("Feelin' Alright"), The Cranberries ("Dreams"), Green Day ("When I Come Around") and Bob Dylan ("Highway 61 Revisited"). Birthdays: Leif Garrett is 61. November 9 1958 - Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog," exceeded sales of three million copies in the United States, becoming the first non-holiday single to sell that many. Hard to believe but today marks the SECOND ANNIVERSARY of the official launch of The Smashing Pumpkast! Jeff sits down with us to discuss everything from his unique musical contributions to The Smashing Pumpkins to the benefits of having a guitar teacher with a vast musical palette (and a No-Wave band). We also talk about the Importance of mental health and Jeff's work with the Continuance Foundation (https://www.thecontinuancefoundation.com), which Mellon Collie-era songs he'd 'Love' to play live and the Herculean effort that is working on a 33-song concept album remotely during a pandemic. We also ask Jeff about his underrated but influential early band "The Lassie Foundation" and how it feels to see people revisit and reassess moments in the SP catalog years later. He's more than a shredder, he's a stone-cold artist and real gentleman. We had such a great time chatting with him. Thanks, Jeff.
