What does it mean to be watchful in prayer? It means to stay awake and bealert. Remember the passage in 1 Peter 5:6–8: “Be sober, be vigilant; because youradversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he maydevour.” Tobe watchful is what Jesus was speaking about in the Garden of Gethsemane withHis disciples in Matthew 26:41. As He went a little farther to pray by Himself,He told Peter, James, and John, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not intotemptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Stayawake. Pray. Be alert as you pray. Jesus said it another way in Matthew 6:6,when He was teaching on prayer: “But you, when you pray, enter into yourcloset, and when you have shut the door, pray to thy Father which is in secret;and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.” Whenwe pray, if we are not careful, there will be all kinds ofdistractions—thoughts racing through our minds, interruptions, and everythingelse in the world clamoring for attention. Someone once said that the deviltrembles when the weakest Christian gets on his knees. This is especially trueif the believer goes into the closet, the room to pray, and shuts the door. When you shut the door, you shut out distractions. You quiet those wanderingthoughts. You concentrate. You see yourself humbly bowing before a holy God,knowing you are needy and dependent upon His help. So,“Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed iswilling, but the flesh is weak.” Oh, my friend, you hear the messagepreached on Sunday. You read the Bible. Your spirit is willing to do what Godwants you to do. When you hear the message on Sunday and you are exhorted tolay aside the weights and the sins. You say, “By the grace of God, I am goingto be the best Christian I can be this week.” But then Monday morning comes.Your spirit is willing—to get up and get on your knees and pray, to standagainst the wiles of the devil, to resist the temptations that will surely comeyour way. But the flesh is weak, you roll over and wake up too late to spendtime with the Lord in prayer! That is why you watch and pray. That is why youstay alert to the attacks of Satan and the distractions he throws at you. Ihave said it many times—even here on this chat—that today we do not live in theday of weapons of mass destruction as much as we live in the day of weapons ofmass distractions. We can so easily be distracted by social media, our phones, our iPads, our computers, the news, and everything happening in thisinternet-connected world. That is why we must watch and pray. ThenPaul says, “with all perseverance.” This is just as important. In Luke11:5–13, when Jesus was teaching the disciples to pray, He gave them theillustration of a man who had a friend come to him at midnight needing bread.Having none, he went to his neighbor and knocked on the door, saying, “Friend, lend me three loaves.” The neighbor replied, “Do not trouble me. The door isnow shut, and my children are with me in bed.” But he kept knocking. He keptknocking until his friend got up and gave him some bread for his guest.  Thatis why Jesus went on to say in Luke 11:9-10, "So I say to you, ask, andit will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be openedto you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him whoknocks it will be opened.” You believe your Father will answer, and youkeep on knocking. That is perseverance. Prayer is not twisting God's arm. It isgetting God's will done on earth. If God gives you a sleepless night, turn itinto a prayer meeting. Peter was released from prison because the church prayedwithout ceasing (Acts 12:5).  Askyour heavenly Father to take care of the needs of those around you—your family, your friends, the people in your life. Most of us quit justbefore the answer comes. Today, let us make sure we are watching and prayingwith all perseverance.

Pay attention to what is shaping you. Pay attention to where your loyalty lies. In the middle of judgment and intensity, Jesus gives a pastoral word: stay awake. The greatest danger to the church isn't persecution, it's drowsiness. Babylon looks powerful and permanent, but it is a false hope. This message is a call to remain faithful to the Lamb, to come out from what competes for our allegiance, and to build our lives on what will actually last.

In this episode, I sit down with Jamie Walden — founder of Omega Dynamics, former Marine infantryman, police officer, firefighter/paramedic, missionary, and resilience trainer — for a powerful conversation about faith, discernment, and navigating uncertain times. We begin by discussing unusual global weather patterns and why many people are paying closer attention to environmental shifts happening around the world.Jamie shares how he views these changes through a biblical worldview and why conversations around awareness, preparedness, and spiritual grounding are becoming more relevant. We also explore the long tradition of watching for “signs in the heavens,” and how faith communities have historically interpreted natural events, cultural shifts, and global instability as reminders to stay spiritually anchored and discerning.More than anything, this conversation centers on how to remain steady when the world feels uncertain. Jamie speaks about spiritual resilience, overcoming fear-driven narratives, and strengthening faith, family, and community as the foundation for navigating whatever lies ahead.Important note:To keep this episode YouTube-friendly, I had to make careful edits and remove portions of our discussion. Why does God call believers to obey and submit to spiritual leaders? In a culture that instinctively questions authority, Hebrews 13:17 gives a command that can feel uncomfortable:“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account.”This message explores: • What biblical obedience and submission actually mean • The weight leaders carry as those who will give an account to God • Why your response affects your own spiritual health • How joyful cooperation strengthens the entire churchThis isn't about elevating men. It's about understanding Christ's design for His church. Earthly church leaders are under-shepherds. Jesus is the Great Shepherd who stayed awake for our souls, bore our sin, and now intercedes for us.If you've ever wrestled with authority, church hurt, or the role of leadership in the local church, this message will help you think clearly and biblically.

NA'ALEH YOGA: Yoga Nidra Journeys for Deep Rest Close Your Eyes and Stay Awake...  In this episode, I am delighted to chat with Shaina Hammer, a birth doula and licensed clinical social worker, about what it really means to prepare for birth and postpartum in a way that supports your nervous system, mental health, and optimizes your rest. We explore how practices like yoga nidra, meditation, hypnobirthing and self-care can help you feel more grounded during pregnancy, support early labor, and ease the transition into postpartum. Shaina shares thoughtful insights from both the therapy room and the birth space, including how postpartum depression can go unnoticed, how birth trauma can be gently healed, and why having compassionate, nonjudgmental support can make such a difference. Whether you're pregnant, newly postpartum, supporting a loved one, or working in the birth or mental health world, this episode offers grounded wisdom, practical tools, and a sense of being deeply understood.   Shaina's bio: Shaina is a birth doula and mental health professional, who works with women through a deeply holistic, mind–body approach to birth and motherhood. She teaches conscious and mindfulness-based birthing classes that draw from hypnobirthing, meditation, and somatic awareness, helping parents prepare for birth as a full human experience—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Her work emphasizes how the mind plays a powerful and specific role in birth, and how awareness, intention, and presence can shape the experience. In addition to birth preparation, she supports mothers after birth through a variety of healing modalities, including compassionate care for those processing birth trauma, creating space for integration, grounding, and restoration in the postpartum period.   Here is where to find Shaina: Instagram: @shainahammerdoula_lmsw Email: consciousbirthingclass@gmail.com   Subscribe to Na'aleh Yoga Podcast for more transformative journeys and feel free to share this podcast with a friend. Caleb Drahosh The realization of Jesus' kingly reign was imminent as He spoke to His disciples. The judgments that come upon the kingdoms of the earth aren't meant to scare His people, but embolden them that His authority is absolute. The old is giving way to the new. Although the day and the hour of the full revelation of Jesus' kingship is not known, history is moving toward it. Therefore, His people should avoid speculation, but instead remain awake and watchful by faithfully living in obedience to His Word.

This Sunday, we will conclude Mark 13 by examining verses 28-37. This chapter is a single prophecy from Jesus about Jerusalem's destruction and His Second Coming. Jesus starts by predicting the city's destruction, and the disciples ask two questions: When will these things happen, and what will be the sign that they are about to occur? From verses 5-23, Jesus answers the "what sign" question regarding Jerusalem's destruction. Wars, rumors of wars, natural disasters, and Christian persecution are not signs of the end; they are the beginning of birth pains (verses 5-13). Then Jesus explains the real sign that Jerusalem is about to fall—the abomination of desolation (verses 14-23). Luke clarifies this reference from Daniel for us Gentiles, saying it occurs when Jerusalem is surrounded by armies (Luke 21:20-21). Next, Jesus addresses the second question about His second coming in verses 24-27. The sign will be the shaking of heaven and the lights in the sky going out. On Sunday, in verses 28-37, Jesus answers the first question, "When will this happen?" He first describes the destruction of Jerusalem, stating that "this generation will not pass away until all these things happen" (verses 28-31). Then, He speaks about when the Son of Man will return in verses 32-37, emphasizing that "no one knows, so stay awake!" This outline seems straightforward, but, as you know, there is much debate about this chapter and which events Jesus refers to in each verse. We will also address several difficult questions about this passage: Who is "he" that the ESV says is near in verse 29? What does Jesus mean by saying this generation will not pass away until "ALL THESE THINGS" have happened? How can Jesus be God and not know the time of His return? And what does staying awake really mean? I pray that God gives us clarity and understanding as we study this text. You can prepare by reading it a few times before Sunday. I. Trust Jesus' Word That Will Never Pass Away (V. 28-31) II. Stay Awake, Faithful To The End (v. 32-37)

Fr. Eric Nicolai preached this meditation on retreat to priests at the Manoir de Beaujeu, in Coteau du lac, near Montreal, Canada. At his most urgent hour, when the apostles are on retreat with their Lord in the garden, a place far away from the hubbub of the crowds, the Lord lets go a searing complaint to his priests:“What! Could none of you stay awake with me one hour?” (Matt 26, 40) We have to stay awake with him in this retreat. The word hour is present 7 times in John. Fulton Sheen refers to each hour in detail. The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. (Jn 12, 23). The hour for us has now come to respond to his demands, to examine all the layers in which we can be his priests, and truly embrace our mission. Amanda's mantra as she was entering brain surgery really stuck with Cody after last week's interview: "Stay awake. Stay alert. This is my life."  In this week's episode, Cody reflects on presence versus resignation, invoking Eckhart Tolle's teaching and examining how often we try to merely get through life instead of fully living it. Amanda's courage and focus become a model for noticing the present moment. An update on Amanda closes out this reflection. She's had another scan and this time her scanxiety proved correct. There were signs of progression and she is now facing the potential of another craniotomy. We'll give more updates as we have them, and hopefully talk with Amanda again about where she is now in her journey.

Living in spiritual awareness means recognizing that we have a real enemy who seeks to devour believers through lies, distraction, and spiritual drift. Peter's warning to scattered Christians throughout the Roman Empire reminds us that spiritual warfare isn't always dramatic—often it's about what we believe in the quiet places of our minds when the enemy slanders God's character and our identity. The foundation of spiritual resistance begins with humility before God, willingly placing ourselves under His mighty hand. Pride blinds us to spiritual danger, while humility awakens us to our need for God's protection and guidance. Casting our anxiety on God isn't just comfort—it's a warfare strategy that prevents the enemy from using our worries against us. When we cling to anxiety, we give the enemy more ammunition, but when we cast our cares on God, we close doors the enemy loves to exploit.Staying spiritually alert requires being both awake and sober-minded, like watchmen protecting ancient cities. The enemy loves distraction because if he can lull us to sleep spiritually, he doesn't need to kick down the front gate. In our world of constant notifications and endless busyness, we must guard against spiritual drowsiness that comes from being too distracted to notice what's happening in our souls. We resist by standing firm in God's truth rather than our feelings, remembering that we fight from victory, not for victory, since Jesus has already defeated our enemy at the cross.

NA'ALEH YOGA: Yoga Nidra Journeys for Deep Rest Close Your Eyes and Stay Awake...   In this episode, I'm honored to speak with Uri Kelman, a meditation teacher and guide. Uri, originally from LA and now living in Israel, shares how meditation and breathwork became his lifeline during a difficult divorce and how those practices helped him reconnect to himself, his spirituality, and his sense of joy. In our conversation, we discuss meditation for beginners, mindfulness, the chakras and the kabbalistic sefirot, spirituality, healing and living intuitively.  Whether you've ever felt lost, anxious, or stuck in the middle of a life shift or simply curious to learn more about meditation, this episode is for you.   Uri's bio: Uri Kelman is a meditation guide, spiritual practitioner, and father of four who weaves together wisdom from Buddhism, Taoism, Kabbalah, and Jewish tradition. His work is rooted in presence, emotional honesty, and the practice of opening the heart. Uri draws from his own journey of healing, including meditation, breathwork, and reflective practice, to support others in reconnecting with gratitude and clarity. He believes that spirituality is not about escaping life, but about learning to meet each moment with awareness and compassion. Through guided practices and heartfelt reflections, Uri invites others to slow down, release what no longer serves them, and trust the natural unfolding of life. His teachings are grounded, relatable, and shaped by a deep respect for both ancient traditions and modern experiences of growth, love, and loss.   Here is where to find Uri: Instagram: http://instagram.com/urikelman/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/urikelman Insight Timer: https://insig.ht/f0TwBuQERXb TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@urikelman   Subscribe to Na'aleh Yoga Podcast for more transformative journeys and feel free to share this podcast with a friend.
