Send us a textInfamous Lords and Masters of Shock Rock, GWAR, are celebrating the 36th anniversary of their landmark album Hell-O! with a spectacular reissue. This special edition, now available on blood-spattered clear vinyl, not only revives the seminal 1988 album but also includes expanded artwork and never-before-seen photos, including images from the original album release show in Richmond. The Hell-O! (36th Anniversary Edition) is available in limited runs of both CD and vinyl, exclusively through the band's label, Pit Records. To commemorate this milestone, GWAR is also reprinting their iconic "GWAR Must Die" t-shirts, which gained fame during their early pillaging days. The current lead singer of GWAR, Blóthar the Berserker, formerly known as Beefcake the Mighty, shared his reflections on this momentous release: “It was the '80s. I was so young and scared. I will always remember wandering around the seedy sex arcades of Times Square, pants around my ankles, tears in my eyes… little did I know, I was working on the most important record in the history of shock rock. We were polishing a turd for the ages… we wanted to call it 'Beat the Meatles,' but the record company said no… and 'Hell-O' was born.”GWAR is currently in the midst of their "The Age of Entitlement" tour, which runs through September 20th. This tour features support from Latin American death metal pioneers Brujeria, the face-melting grindcore band BRAT, and folk-metal group The Native Howl. Blóthar commented on the tour: “This is an incredible time in the history of the world, so much death and destruction in the face of so much senseless entitlement and arrogant darkness. We cannot wait to shock some sense into humanity with the most outrageous performance of heavy metal theater ever to descend from the gods.”Following this tour, GWAR will embark on "The Stoned Age" tour starting October 17th in Las Vegas, NV, and concluding on November 20th in Nashville, TN. This leg of the tour will feature support from Black Metal royalty Dark Funeral, hardcore noise makers Squid Pisser, and Cancer Bats on select dates. Blóthar humorously added, “Get ready to mumble!!! On this tour we will CHRONIC-le the embarrassing loser takes all choice between a neurodivergent fascist and a desiccated mummy to be the leader of the free world. What could possibly go wrong?”In addition to their touring and reissue, GWAR made a record-breaking sixth appearance on the AV Club's Undercover Series. Known for their unique takes on popular songs, GWAR covered the hit "I'm Just Ken" from the Barbie movie soundtrack, showcasing their unparalleled ability to reinterpret hits. “We've been fans of Ryan Gosling since the Mickey Mouse Club days, anwww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Sydney punk reprobates FANGZ are in the thick of things of late. They just recently finished a massive national run as support to Cancer Bats, and have been busying themselves with releasing new music and generally making life a party wherever they go.True Aussie legends in their own right, FANGZ are a fresh band with an old-school mentality. They play hard and party harder without pause for reflection or decision. That hypothesis will be put to the test this weekend when FANGZ set out to do the almost impossible.A 24-hour East Coast tour.Let that sink in. FANGZ are planning a WHOLE East Coast tour in the same amount of time it allegedly takes the sun to do a lap of the Earth. Starting at the Cherry Bar in Melbourne as Friday night rolls into Saturday morning - so August 31 - the boys then travel to Sydney for a show at Bootleggers precisely 12 hours later and finish up at Greaser in Brisbane before the clock strikes midnight, thus completing an East Coast tour in 24 hours. It sounds too much of an effort to even think about, let alone attempt to pull off, so HEAVY tracked down frontman Joshua Cottreau to see how serious this whole thing is."What do you think?" Cottreau fires back at me when I ask if it is even possible. "It doesn't make sense to NOT try and do that," he laughed. "You know us by now. I'd put more in if I could. I don't think it's that unreasonable. The only thing, obviously, is flights because we're on a tight schedule. As long as everything goes according to plan, it should be sweet. We're really stoked. I think it's a pretty insane idea, but I don't really know anyone else who's done it (laughs). You've gotta go for it, right?"In the full interview, Joshua talks more about the 24 hour East Coast tour, the new track Same Old Story and its nostalgic video, their style of music and why it is so infectious, gives us the scoop on a new - debut - album, their musical growth over the course of three EP's, the upcoming Froth & Fury festival and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersIt has been a well deserved breakthrough 18-month period for Brisbane rock outfit PistonFist that saw the band not only deliver their debut album RedLine, but also power through support slots with Jane's Addiction, The Smashing Pumpkins, Cancer Bats, The Poor and Alice Cooper.Despite setbacks that threatened to blow their motor, PistonFist time and time again regrouped and embraced the change to emerge triumphant and in more demand than ever before. But, as a wise man once said, a band's true character can only surface in times of extreme hardship or adversity. Or he would have if the wise man knew anything about the music industry as a whole. What started as the logical next step in the evolution of PistonFist when invited to tour Europe with original Slipknot vocalist Anders Colsefni quickly turned into a maelstrom of unwanted disaster when Colsefni pulled the pin on the run of shows not long after PistonFist had finished paying the bulk of the tours expenses. It was a pivotal moment in the future and career of the band, who not only had to weigh up the potential destruction of heading out on the tour of a lifetime, but also the very real prospect of more or less throwing a small fortune down the proverbial drain. After a pow-wow with the other two bands scheduled to be part of the tour - Sin Soto and Kaosis - the bands collectively decided to push forward and try to salvage at least something from the rapidly darkening dream. The first point of order was to secure the venues to play at, the second was coming up with a band high enough in stature to join the tour that would draw a crowd and make the tour an enticing proposition for venues and countries that would likely have never heard of any of the three bands other than the fact they may have briefly seen their name on a tour poster that was now null and void.Their solution? Piece together two tribute bands featuring the existing cast of musicians that would put bums on seats and also not demand more money than they were worth. Thus, the Prodigy and Slipknot tribute bands were born, and the tour was back on!PistonFist frontman Geoff O'Leary joined HEAVY recently for a chat about the tour and what has been a whirlwind period for the band, starting with the boys finally getting recognised by the powers that be and given the opportunity to shine on the big stage."It's an interesting one," he measured. "We've definitely busted our bums. We did the Australian and New Zealand tour last year with Anders and Waylon (Reavis, Mushroomhead), two really, really good guys, and we had a fat time. Smashing Pumpkins was great, but the one for me that's a bit of a standout was Alice Cooper. It was amazing. We've never been looked after so well at a show. We're fortunate, no doubt, but at the same time we worked hard. We've worked on all the things, too - and this is one for the young bands that are listening. The social media, the consistent rehearsals, just busting your balls is well worth it. I think the thing is we love it. We're not making money - it's costing us money, no doubt - but we love it. That's where it's at. And I think if you don't love it, don't waste your time."In the full interview, Geoff talks more about the European tour, how it was salvaged and how close it came to being abandoned, the rise of PistonFist, lessons learnt from playing with bands like Cancer Bats, touring overseas for the first time and what he expecting, the value of honesty and trust in the music industry, having to relearn and play drums for the first five shows of the tour, anticipated problems, their upcoming new single and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersAfter an absence of five years, Canadian hardcore punk outfit Cancer Bats are finally returning to our shores next month for an eight-date run of shows in a belated celebration of the band's most recent 2022 album Psychic Jailbreak. That album marked a changing of the guard for Cancer Bats, with founding guitarist Scott Middleton leaving before the album was recorded, forcing the remaining three members into an uncomfortable writing and recording process that ultimately brought out the best in each of them. The album was a resounding success but is yet to be performed live in this country, a blight that shall be rectified in just over three weeks, with frontman Liam Cormier making no effort to hide his enthusiasm when he spoke with HEAVY only hours ago."I'm still on this tour," he replied when asked if he was packed and ready for Australia yet, "so I have a bag of dirty laundry (laughs). I'm ready to go. I'll just put this in the wash, then repack my bags. I feel like this last bunch of touring we've been really busy, so it's almost like having a bag packed and ready to rip. That's how I've been living (laughs)."We ask Liam what has changed with Cancer Bats since their last visit down under."Last time we played, we had Wade MacNeil from Alexisonfire playing guitar with us," he offered. "Since then, we've had a couple of other folks on guitar duties, but now our homie Jackson (Landry) is gonna be shredding for both the Cancer Bats and Bat Sabbath shows. Australia will get to meet our new favourite… he calls us his Uncles because he's younger. He's like a 27-year-old little ripper."In the full interview, Liam talks more about Jackson and how he has slotted into the band, the response to Psychic Jailbreak from fans, the internal pressures the band put on themselves to improve on each album, keeping things fresh after seven albums and counting, taking Fangz as national support and the part Cancer Bats played in getting the band together, having local bands open in each city, the two Bat Sabbath shows and what to expect, what craziness Cancer Bats plan to bring and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Prior to 2021, former members of Canadian rock band The Mailman's Children joined forces with other artists to record 23 original songs. At the top of 2021, the newly formed Pop Rock band surfaced as Hello Fiasco.Hello Fiasco is considered Canadian-American because its frontman Eric LaBossiere (born Canadian) lives in Helena, Montana (USA). The rest of the band lives in Winnipeg, including Joel Couture (bass), Joel Perreault (lead guitars/backing vocals), Ivan Burke (drums), and Guy Abraham (keys/Ableton/backing vocals). Since its official release this summer, the band's debut album "Find The Shoreline" has earned 3,000,000 streams, and been placed on over 6,000 Spotify playlists. The album's first single, “Hold Me Close” has earned 700,000 streams, and 190,000 views on the official YouTube video, and the song is currently receiving XM, terrestrial, internet, Cable and TV radio airplay in over 25 countries. The album itself was co-produced by both LaBossiere and award-winning producer John Paul Peters (Propagandhi, Comeback Kid, Faouzia, Cancer Bats, Begonia). Notably, the album was mastered by American Grammy-winning engineer Randy Merrill of Sterling Sound (Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, Muse, Bieber, Adele, Lady Gaga). Because the band prides itself on coming from the side of Pop Rock where the quality of lyrics, music and originality still stands for something, HF has been compared to Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and David Bowie. HF's first performances include a sold-out headlining show at Canada's renowned Festival du Voyageur, as well as an opening slot for The Watchmen, I Mother Earth and Bif Naked at Winnipeg's Burt Block Party. The band is currently in the process of scheduling its first North American tour dates for 2023. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
