There was significant portal movement on the roster, and the team's top prospects participated in all-star games. We're covering it all, plus the upcoming portal recruiting weekend already in high gear. Join the BWI Live Show at 10 a.m. on YouTube, or check out the replay on the site. We're discussing the week's most crucial roster movement news and taking your questions on the show! Recruiting insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz break it all down for you on the show. Penn State receiver movement While it's been in the works for a while, former Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming officially joined Penn State out of the transfer portal. Fleming didn't announce the move, but social media got word of his intentions. Hours before his commitment, on the transfer portal deadline for January, receiver Dante Cephas entered his name into the portal. The one-year Penn State wide receiver caught 22 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns in a frustrating season for both Cephas and fans. We'll recap his time at Penn State and discuss the transition to the team's latest addition in Fleming. Not all of it is portal news The team also got significant retention news on Wednesday with the announcement that veteran defensive tackle Dvon Ellies is returning for a bonus season. We'll discuss how important Ellie is to the defensive tackle rotation and what he means for Tom Allen's defense as he settles in as the new Penn State defensive coordinator. Yet, the portal is critical for Penn State's chances next fall in their attempt to reload at key positions. Fitz and Snyder will discuss the upcoming transfer portal recruiting weekend and what fans need to know about this important window. There's already one visitor on campus, which you can read about here in an article Fitz posted Thursday morning. Penn State recruiting update While some of the staff focus on the portal, junior days start in January, which are an essential part of the recruiting calendar. Snyder is tracking the players joining Penn State to learn more about the program and set up the next phase for the 2025 cycle. Finally, we'll discuss the all-star bowls that several Penn State players attended this past week. Quarterback commit Ethan Grunkemeyer, and lineman Donovan Harbour was at the Under Armour Bowl in Florida and competed during the game Wednesday afternoon. Fitz traveled down for the week to check out the practice and has his thoughts about how the duo performed outside of the game. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Penn State Roster movement, Recruiting Update Learn more about your ad choices. Penn Stated: Talking Penn State Football with Donnie Collins

The 2023 season is just a few days away, and plenty is going to change for Penn State. What shouldn't is what should be clear by now.Hosts Donnie Collins and Sam Fremin discuss the No. 7 Nittany Lions' season opener on this week's edition of the Penn Stated podcast, with a focus on the should-be starting quarterback Drew Allar and what he potentially brings to the offense. Do Donnie and Sam think the former five-star prospect can actually start off strong and be a catalyst against West Virginia?Other topics on the agenda include the Big Ten's long-overdue policy requiring teams to release pregame availability data -- and why Donnie thinks this will be a sad goodbye to the halcyon days of the overly paranoid head coaches around college football. Donnie and Sam also discuss not just how West Virginia can pull off an upset, but whether it seems likely. To contact Donnie, drop an email at dcollins@timesshamrock.com, or send him a message on Twitter @PennStateTT.Listen and subscribe on Apple podcastsListen and subscribe on Google podcastsListen and subscribe on Spotify

There's been a barrage of news and commitments for Penn State football this week. With that comes plenty of thoughts, comments, questions, and opinions from Penn State football fans. So to give them a chance to be heard, the BWI Daily Edition is opening up the mailbag and getting to what you want to know. To get your question on the show, subscribe to Blue White Illustrated and leave your question on the BWI Daily Mailbag submission thread or leave a five-star review on Apple podcasts with your question.  As always, subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube, so you never miss the show.  Today's show primarily focuses on the wide receiver position for Penn State football. The team picked up two commitments this week. The first was Sunday when former Kent State wideout Dante Cephas announced he was joining the program. Next, former Florida State pass-catcher Malik McClain made the decision to join the Nittany Lions.  What do the two bring to the table? And what will their presence do to the roster, with five receivers in the Class of 2022 vying for playing time? Bauer and T-Frank will discuss those questions, and T-Frank will go into detail about where he thinks they fit positionally. He'll also give his thoughts on their skills and how Penn State can best use each player.  Penn State also got a commitment from three-star linebacker Anthony Speca on Tuesday. According to recruiting insider Ryan Snyder, Speca is close friends with four-star athlete from Pittsburgh, Quinton Martin. Can Penn State land Martin?  With such a high-profile player, will NIL be a factor with Martin? One viewer wants to know if Penn State should prioritize him despite Martin not playing a high-value position. This topic leads to a lengthy conversation about NIL and how the system is different at Penn State than in other places.  But what about those other systems of NIL that guarantee money to recruits? Is that system going to work? Bauer and T-Frank debate the current state of NIL, how things are changing in the marketplace, and where they are going.  Lastly, they discuss a range of topics, including more portal pursuits, mike linebacker, and more.  Learn more about your ad choices. There are no coincidences in sports. There is no such thing as interesting timing.Everything is planned. There is cause and effect. Things don't happen without reason. So when Penn State announced that it let go of receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield on Sunday night, and top transfer portal target receiver Dante Cephas said a half hour later that he was committing to the Nittany Lions, it kicked off a furious week at the position many felt Penn State needed to hit hard through the transfer portal this offseason. In a super-sized episode of the Penn Stated podcast, host Donnie Collins discusses the additions of Cephas and rising Florida State prospect Malik McClain to a wideout group that still doesn't have a position coach -- at least publicly.Donnie also chats with DK Pittsburgh Sports Penn State beat writer Cory Giger about the move, and what it says about James Franklin's philosophy on competing 365 days a year, "In everything you do," as one of his team's mantras goes.Donnie also gives his opinion on which two other positions will now need help through the portal, and which portal loss for Penn State might be as important as the additions of Cephas and McClain. To contact Donnie, drop an email at dcollins@timesshamrock.com, or send him a message on Twitter @PennStateTT.Listen and subscribe on Apple podcastsListen and subscribe on Google podcastsListen and subscribe on Spotify

Penn State football had a major shakeup at receiver on Sunday night when the team parted ways with coach Taylor Stubblefield. Hours later, the team landed one of its top portal targets, Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas. To make sense of all that information, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior Editor Nate Bauer discuss the events and how it affects the team. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube so you never miss any breaking news. https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK First, they start with the news that Penn State landed Cephas. The team had been hotly after receivers in the transfer portal but had yet to find success despite those efforts. That changed on Sunday night when Cephas committed to the Nittany Lions despite some enrollment challenges that will cause him to enroll this spring.  https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-adds-top-transfer-portal-target-in-wr-dante-cephas/ Bauer and T-Frank discuss Cephas's impact on the roster and how important it was for Penn State to get on the board at that position.  So is Cephas' commitment linked to Stubblefield's firing? Bauer and T-Frank discuss the larger picture at the receiver position and how the short-term situation has less to do with his departure than the problems on the roster and recruiting trail. Bauer and T-Frank discuss what those issues were.  Finally, they round back to Cephas, and T-Frank gives some more observations on the former Zips final season in Akron to give fans an idea about what he brings to the roster.  Learn more about your ad choices. It was an eventful weekend for Penn State football, with several big-time stories coming out of Sunday. Today, on the BWI Daily Recruiting Show, insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz discuss those topics. Shortly after, Penn State followed up with an official statement. So what led to the departure? Fitz and Snyder discuss the variables that led to his termination and look at recent news, but also the big picture of his time at Penn State.  Next, they transition into top portal target Dante Cephas' commitment shortly after Stubblefield's firing. Are the two related? And how long has Cephas been in the works? The duo take you through the somewhat complicated recruiting process of getting Cephas to Penn State and explain what's next for the former Akron Zip. They also update fans on the latest portal visitor, 6-4 Florida State receiver Malik McClain.  After working through the transfer portal news, they focus on 2023 tackle Chimdy Onoh's official visit to the program. The lone 2023 target seems like a great fit for Penn State and vice versa but how did his visit go? Snyder discusses what he knows and cautions fans from getting too excited about a potential commitment in the near future.  Lastly, they focus on junior day, which tooks place on Saturday. The Nittany Lions hosted over 40 prospects with some high-profile names. Snyder and Fitz feature linebacker Anthony Speca in this week's player spotlight. While the Penn State football team is hard at work preparing for the 2023 Rose Bowl, the coaching staff is hard at securing the next class of Nittany Lions. Penn State is sending out more offers each day but so far, no immediate activity from the Lions in terms of commitments. Top portal target Dante Cephas visited over the weekend, but so far, nothing has popped. Is Penn State weighing all options? Or is something else at play? Bauer and T-Frank will discuss and update fans with the most recent portal names and offers that make sense for the team.  While the portal is still warming up, the first commitment of the December recruiting period popped up on Monday. Four-star defensive end Joseph Mupoyi chose the Nittany Lions after his official visit this weekend. T-Frank and Bauer will discuss the 6-4, 235-pound edge rusher and what he represents for the program.  Next, they'll look at the recruiting board of top schools and compare where Penn State sits. Finally, Bauer and T-Frank will discuss where the team will likely finish and how this group corresponds to previous seasons.  Next, they'll update fans on the news heading into the Rose Bowl. Both Utah and Penn State received news that they will be without their top receivers for the game in January over the weekend. They'll discuss this impact on the game and how each team can overcome losing critical cogs on both sides of the ball. Defensively, both teams will also be without top cover corners Joey Porter Jr. for Penn State and Clark Phillips III for Utah.  Finally, they'll discuss Penn State basketball's big win over Illinois on Saturday. The Nittany Lions upset the Illini 74-59 to move to 7-3 on the year. How big of a win was it for the program, and what does it do for the team's season outlook? Bauer and T-Frank will discuss that and preview what's next for the Nittany Lions.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Penn State's made its needs known early in the 2022 transfer portal season. The Nittany Lions have handed out several offers, most of which have been at the receiver position. Find out what the top targets are and which players are visiting campus or getting visits from coaches. Subscribe to the BWI Daily Edition on YouTube so you never miss the show! https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Host Nate Bauer and Blue White Illustrated publisher Sean Fitz start the show by recapping the transfer that has left the Penn State program since the portal opened on Monday. The list is surprisingly short, considering how other programs around the country were hit this week. They go through the names and assess the situation from both sides, including how backup quarterback Christian Veilleux's absence affects the program. They also discuss how for some teams and players, the portal is a blessing that can move players on to better situations that suit their talent level or personal situation.  Next, they discuss the receivers that Penn State offered out of the gates this week. Fitz is zeroing in on local prospects Dont'e Thornton and Dante Cephas. He also lists when those players might visit campus to see if they're a fit. One of them already has a date lined up.  Finally, they examine the players who still need to decide about their futures at Penn State. For example, what is the status of Keyvone Lee after another cryptic social media post? They discuss their impressions of Lee's plans and then run through the list of players who have NFL Draft decisions to make.  Finally, Fitz and Bauer focus on NIL and how things are happening behind the scenes. Bauer explains that just because nothing has happened yet, it doesn't mean that it can't happen this offseason. He discusses what he's heard about the concerns with compensation for players and the strains it could put on the locker room.  Lastly, Fitz gives an update on recruiting heading into the biggest official visit weekend of December. Penn State is hosting several key recruits that they hope to commit before the early signing period at the end of December. After just one season with the Miami Hurricanes, starting defensive tackle Darrell Jackson has entered the transfer portal. He plans to switch schools to in-state rival Florida State. Jackson enjoyed his time at Miami but wants to be closer to family near Tallahassee. His mother is ill and undergoing surgery soon, and he wants to be closer to home. Elsewhere in the portal, former top HS linebacker Justin Flowe is planning to leave Oregon. Miami was in the mix for him back in 2020 and he played for Mario Cristobal in Eugene. Will Flowe wind up at The U? Host Alex Donno shares the latest on 4-star EDGE Rueben Bain from Miami Central. Bain plans to announce his college commitment on December 16th and has narrowed his choice between the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles. Bain has been projected to Miami by numerous recruiting analysts. Donno reacts to the list of players who have received confirmed offers from Miami so far, including OL Bram Walden from Oregon and Jeremiah Byers from UTEP, and wide receivers Dante Cephas from Kent State and Andrew Armstrong from Texas A&M Commerce.  Donno warns listeners to double check every transfer portal report you see. A fake tweet about UNC's Drake Maye hitting the portal has been making the rounds. It's not real. However, there are several ACC starting QBs in the portal including NC States Devin Leary, Clemson's DJ Uiagalelei, Virginia's Brennan Armstrong, Georgia Tech's Jeff Sims, and Boston College's Phil Jurkovec.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
