Penn State practice observationsWe'll start right off the top of the show by discussing what we saw in the extended view of practice on Tuesday evening. The team went through positional drills, running games, passing games, and teamwork during the roughly 30 minutes of open viewing. Pickel spent time with both the offense and defense and will give his thoughts about the team's progress. We'll also dive into the competitive one-on-one periods we saw during camp. Penn State did three separate drills during the open window, including one-on-one passing drills for defensive backs and receivers, blocking drills for those same groups, and running game drills between the offensive and defensive fronts. We'll describe who stood out and who made plays during the nearly live action drills. Between the LinesWe'll also have an extended session of Between The Lines, our press conference recap feature where we fill in the gaps of what coaches are saying during media interviews. This week we'll feature both head coach James Franklin and wide receiver's coach Marques Hagans. It was a remarkably frank conversation with Hagans, who did not hold back on what he wants from his receivers in 2025. We'll also be taking your questions live during the show! But even before his first chance to host his top targets in an official capacity, wide receiver's coach Marques Hagans is on the hot seat with many fans. The team's struggles to generate separation and a consistent passing game in 2023 tanked the team's best chance to defeat Ohio State and led to another low-wattage performance against Michigan. But this is the first year that Hagans will have a chance to develop relationships with and recruit players that fit his vision and style for the team. But by now, we have a much better idea of what that style of player looks like. Today on the BWI Live Show, we're discussing what we've learned from Hagan's first recruiting class prospects and what he's prioritizing in a player. Join the show at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss the team's passing attack and whatever else is on your mind! With recruiting news about to get white-hot, now is a great time to subscribe to our YouTube Channel so you don't miss any breaking news or commitment videos. Tyseer Denmark and a Big 33 Recap The Pennsylvania squad dominated the annual Big 33 game this past weekend, winning 31-7, scoring all of their points in the first half. Four-star Penn State led that scoring barrage commit Tyseer Denmark, who had three touchdowns on four targets in the game. We'll discuss what we learned from that performance and how Denmark showed some skills at a new position that we hadn't seen before. We'll also review the day of Kenny Woseley, who played cornerback for the Pennsylvania team. Finally, we'll highlight Greg Pickel's latest Penn State football column for Blue White Illustrated. Tracing the evolution of receiver recruiting Next, we'll move on to our main topic, Penn State wide receiver recruiting. With three important recruits visiting the program this weekend, it's important to understand what Hagans is trying to build with the Nittany Lions. We'll discuss his coaching style, what he emphasizes, and how he likely came to lean on those traits. We'll compare the players on the current roster, previous recruiting classes before Hagans, and the styles of the last coach, Taylor Stubblefield. Meet Lauren Hagans, the 2024 Grandma's Marathon Champion, who made a sensational marathon debut, scorching a 2:25:55—running the fourth-fastest U.S. debut of all time! Though Lauren has coached many marathoners—and is surrounded by strong, NAZ Elite rockstar marathoning teammates who shared helpful nuggets—this was truly uncharted territory. "You never get to a starting line by yourself! Little pieces of magic were shared with me at moments of doubt along the way to my first marathon. They helped me develop trust." We discussed: -Her build—Lauren was concerned about pushing her mileage too high due to past injuries, so her coaches built her a plan that played to her strengths -Mentors/coaches who've had an impact—Todd Harbour at Baylor, Ben Rosario, Jenna Wrieden -Her most meaningful races—1:09:46 4th-place finish debut at the USATF Half Marathon Championships -Her perfectly executed Grandma's race plan and how awesome it was to share the joy with her coach Jenna at the finish line. -Her "stay in the fight" moment -And what's next Lauren has competed in 3 Olympic Trials on the track and is stoked to compete in the marathon trials in February. She is hoping to rock a fast half at Valencia before then. I'm looking forward to following more of her inspiring journey! In this episode of “The 1-0 Podcast,” co-hosts Seth Engle and Spencer Ripchik welcome special guest, 247Sports Virginia beat writer Jacquie Franciulli. Blue White Illustrated broke news Monday morning that Penn State has found its next receivers coach. Head coach James Franklin tagged Virginia assistant head coach and receivers coach Marques “Biscuit” Hagans to fill the same position with the Nittany Lions. Hagans survived two coaching changes at Virginia and had been in his current position since 2011. Today on the BWI Daily recruiting show, insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz discuss the recruiting implications of hiring Hagans. They'll also highlight the notable players that attended Penn State's junior day on Saturday. As always, subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube, so you don't miss the show. If you want to get your questions on the BWI Mailbag Show, submit a five-star review with your question on Apple Podcasts. In the show's first half, Snyder and Fitz take a deep dive into Hagans fit with the Nittany Lions as a recruiter and developer. Then, they draw some parallels between his best players at UVA and how he was able to help them, highlighted by Olamide Zaccheaus, now a starter for the Atlanta Falcons. But because it's a recruiting show, they dive deeper into that element of his hiring. Penn State has done very well in Virginia over the last several cycles. Yet there's one talent-rich area they haven't been able to mine successfully, and it's one that Hagans knows well. So they discuss which recruits in the upcoming class he could help Penn State land from the region and what other players outside of receiver he could sway. Finally, they dive into the latest junior day for Penn State football. The list surprised both Fitz and Snyder, who expected a lower turnout for the second of the team's three junior day events. Instead, several high-level athletes, including a top-25 player in the upcoming class, made the trip to Happy Valley. Find out which 2024 and 2025 players stood out to BWI's recruiting experts.
