On his weekly Saturday Conversations podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey welcomes KDKA-TV's Rich Walsh to tackle some hot Pittsburgh sports topics and learn more about Rich's career in television. On the football front, Rich explains why he doesn't want the Steelers to reach for a QB like Jaxson Dart in the NFL draft and gives his thoughts on keeping George Pickens next to DK Metcalf vs. trading him for an opportunity to get back into the second round. Then our duo tackles the Pirates' slow start and Penguins GM Kyle Dubas' chances of turning the team around before Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin retire. Later, Jason learns about Rich's journey from growing up in Penn Hills to becoming a key piece of KDKA's sports coverage team; what a day in the life of a TV sports anchor looks like and how that's changed over the years; and the nuance of the medium that Rich has learned through time.

Suburbs have long been a touchstone of the proverbial American dream, promising happy lives and top-notch schools to their fortunate inhabitants. But what happens when white and affluent families move on, leaving behind massive municipal debt, poorly planned infrastructure, and school systems ill-equipped to meet the needs of newer residents – many of whom are often less wealthy, Black, and Hispanic? Longtime education journalist Benjamin Herold, author of “Disillusioned: Five Families and the Unraveling of America's Suburbs,” takes readers deep into the history of how gentrification, race and privilege factored into the rise and fall of suburban life, and how his own educational opportunities and life path were shaped and influenced by the opportunities his white parents were able to access in the community of Penn Hills, outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

You've heard the term "bystander," but probably not "upstander." What is it? Hosts Rob Lawrence, Maia Dorsett and Hilary Gates are joined by University of Pittsburgh's Rickquel Tripp, MD, MPH, CDR, USNR: Vice Chair of Diversity, Inclusion & Health Equity, Department of Emergency Medicine; Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine; EMS Medical Director, Penn Hills, SouthEast Regional, Lower Valley and Foxwall; Emergency Department Attending Physician. Dr. Tripp teaches us about implicit bias and how an upstander will not stand quietly by but will instead engage in support of a person or group who may be being bullied or attacked. How should we teach this in our EMS systems? How do we create a safe space and a culture that celebrates this behavior? Bias is often motivated by fear, anxiety or the unknown. He's set to break a ton of records. Has any OC been shown on TV more than Matt Canada? Crowley is not considering picking a quarterback this year despite what Pickett does. He wants to see the Steelers bring a fired head coach or someone familiar with Pickett to work on the staff and call plays. Dorin wants to see something fresh and how plays are run. We look around the AFC North with the Browns, Ravens, and Bengals matchups in week 6. Having Diontae Johnson should significantly help the Steelers. Pat Freiermuth being back would be critical.

June 20, 2016. Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. The Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families order the Penn Hills Police Department to remove multiple children from the home of a woman named Patricia Fowler. The authorities soon realize that two of Patricia's children, 17-year old twins Ivon and Inisha Fowler, are no longer in her custody and an investigation reveals that they have not been seen for around 10-15 years. Patricia provides conflicting stories about what happened to the twins, but even though she faces legal trouble for her deception, there is no evidence to prove that she harmed her children and investigators are unable to pin down how and when Ivon and Inisha went missing. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we chronicle the unusual disappearance of the Fowler twins, which somehow managed to go unnoticed for several years. Special thanks to listener Kim Fritz for narrating the opening of this episode. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Penn Hills Police Department at (412) 798-2035.
