When Sean Tyler Foley, managing director of Total Buy-In, found himself on the precipice of a speaking engagement alongside Tony Robbins, he did the unthinkable — he turned his expertise into a book under a nail-biting deadline. Today, Sean Tyler joins Tim to talk about his remarkable journey from stage fright to spotlight, revealing the transformative effects of embracing a challenge head-on. They discuss the immense preparation behind seamless performances, emphasizing that success is not a sudden burst of luck but the culmination of years of hard work. This notion extends beyond the arts into entrepreneurship, where legal and financial preparedness, highlighted by a personal story of loss and the importance of succession planning, form the bedrock of sustainable business practices. They also touch on the transformative power of podcasting, as experienced by Sean Tyler, who has over 300 appearances in a single year. It is a testament to the medium's potential to build a robust online presence and establish credibility. Tune into this enlightening podcast episode and step into your spotlight. On March 29, 1994, 10-year-old Rodney Collins was fatally shot while riding his bike after being caught in a crossfire between two street gangs in Chicago, IL. Two brothers, 17-year-old Sean Tyler and 18-year-old Reginald Henderson, came under suspicion after a corrupt police force used extreme physical abuse to force false confessions out of them and others. Despite no evidence linking them to the crime other than their coerced false confessions, the brothers were each sentenced to over 50 years in prison. Jason Flom talks to Sean Tyler and Reginald Henderson along with Sean's attorney, Karl Leonard from The Exoneration Project. Tyler is an accomplished film and stage performer and has appeared in productions including Freddy Vs Jason, Door to Door, Carrie, and the musical Ragtime. One if his biggest passions is helping others confidently take the stage and impact an audience with their stories, which he talks about in his best-selling book "The Power to Speak Naked." As I looked into Tyler and learned more about him from this conversation, it became apparent very quickly he is a hard worker and is involved in a lot things. I think that is why his value of "integrity" is so important to him. As Tyler explained it, integrity is about staying true to your word and doing the things you committed to doing. That is an unbelievably simple concept, but as we talked about during the show it can be extremely difficult to actually do. For Tyler though, it is the only way. There is so much complexity in our lives, competing priorities, and limited time/resources; so the only way to navigate it all is to hold yourself accountable to your word. One of the aspects of this conversation I really enjoyed was the mathematical logic Tyler used to explain his value and approach to life. We talked about the intricate "if, then, or" statements our minds are constantly running to try to determine the best decisions for us. We use this logic to identify our biases, assumptions, and blind spots to gain the most clarity we can. If that sounds exhausting and burdensome--it is. This isn't necessarily easy work to do, but the pay off is the peace and freedom to know that at the minimum, even if everything goes wrong, you were being thoughtful and in line with your stated values. My favorite part of the discussion was when we used ourselves as a case study to test this "logical computation" of integrity. I unfortunately had to postpone our original recording date because of a family issue and this ran head first into the integrity conversation we were having. In theory, we are supposed to stick to our word and do the things we committed to do. So rather than do the polite thing and shy away from this topic, Tyler and I dove head first into it and had an authentic discussion about how he felt about me cancelling.

Making Conversations Count: Honest, relatable conversations with business leaders
How public speaking coaches can change your life! Making Conversations about selling on Amazon Count! "Wendy.. if you were to do your podcast the next time, sitting on your hands and never move, people would be like, what is wrong with this episode? They wouldn't know, right? They couldn't see, but they would feel that it was just a little off...." Tyler Foley, Making Conversations Count - (August 2022) Psst! Low on data? Here's a lower bandwidth version for you. Public speaking is one of the most terrifying things you can do... Or so a lot of people believe. But they haven't spoken with Sean Tyler Foley. He's a child actor turned author and public speaking coach, and he has a quite incredible story to tell about the time he met Freddy Krueger. If you think that sounds unusually impressive, wait until you hear how he's also sharing stages with Tony Robbins! Enjoy this new episode of the "Making Conversations Count" podcast in which we talk all about how public speaking coaches can literally change your life! You'll learn.... Freddy vs Jason (1m13s) What Tyler does now (4m10s) Everyone says you need to sell the benefits. It's actually more about selling the solution! (8m30s) Tyler's favourite family trip (13m39s) Mannerisms. Hmmmm… (26m10s) Tyler's conversation that counted (39m50s) A poignant moment from the episode: "..You know, you look at anybody who has any form of sensory deprivation, and then you have those heightened senses when you can only rely on the audio. It's amazing the cues that you can pick up on. And as you said, our brain is finely tuned to it. You know when somebody is smiling on the phone, you know when they're having a bad day. And it goes the other way, too. I've talked to people about this with energy work. We know when there's been a fight in a room, even if we've never witnessed the fight, you've walked into that room and people were like and then you get that link. You're like, oh, what is with that? And you're like and you become hyper sensitive and aware of you're walking on eggshells a little bit, because what did I just walk into? You didn't witness a fight. There was nothing you didn't see. You don't know. But you know that something went on. And we as human beings have a far better connection with each other than I think we give ourselves credit for."
