Daar waar deze podcast eind 2021 mee begon. Olympiër en voormalig profwielrenster Vera Koedooder ging op zaterdag 5 april in Grand Café de Brink in Dwingeloo op de reünie avond van de Ronde van Drenthe in gesprek met de ‘koningin van Drenthe' Femmy van Issum, Hennie Kuiper, Han Vaanhold, Chantal Beltman en Christine Mos. Het werd een terugblik op 65 jaar Ronde van Drenthe, de iconische koers die helaas sinds dit jaar niet meer bestaat in wedstrijdvorm. Helaas geen Women's World Tour meer sinds 2024 en geen Albert Achterhes Profronde van Drenthe (UCI 1.1 mannen) sinds 2023. In de plaats daarvan werd het een breedtesport weekend met twee toertochten op 5 en 6 april. Vera reed zelf ook mee in de toertocht op zaterdagochtend met een groep oud-wielrensters en voormalig ploeggenoten zoals Ghita en Chantal Beltman, Christine Mos, Yvonne Brunen en anderen. ‘s Avonds werd de dag gezellig afgesloten met een buffet en dus ook deze podcastshow welke Vera mocht verzorgen. Het gesprek ging over verschillende hoogte -en dieptepunten en mooie anekdotes vanuit verschillende perspectieven. Daarnaast riep Femmy iedereen op om leuke en bijzondere anekdotes over de Ronde van Drenthe te mailen naar mail@rondevandrenthe.nl. De mooiste anekdotes zullen dan worden gebundeld in een boek over de Ronde van Drenthe. Japan is sinds afgelopen vrijdag het vijfde land op de maan. Wel is het nog onduidelijk hoe het precies gaat aflopen met hun maanlander SLIM. De zonnepanelen doen het niet en na een paar uur waren de batterijen leeg. Maar terwijl alle ogen en schotels gericht waren op SLIM, keken ze bij de radiotelescoop in Dwingeloo naar iets anders: een klein apparaatje dat tijdens de landing over boord werd gegooid. Waarom? Vanaf dat hoppertje werd door Japanse radioamateurs een signaal gestuurd dat ze hier in Nederland beter binnen konden halen dan in de Japanse controlekamer zelf lukte. Daarmee hebben ze ook in Dwingeloo een primeur: ze ontvingen de eerste amateurradio vanaf de maan.  Tammo Jan Dijkema, vrijwilliger bij de radiotelescoop in Dwingeloo en onderzoeker bij Astron, vertelt meer over wat ze hebben ontvangen en wat daar nou zo bijzonder aan is. Een verschrikkelijk verkeersongeluk bij Havelte maakt op 17 april 2022 een einde aan het leven van Maud (16) en Erwin (21). Verslaggevers Daniëlle Molenaar en Sander Dekker vertellen in de podcast Radio Ramkraak over de impact van dit ongeluk. De twee slachtoffers zitten samen met twee andere vrienden in de auto die wordt bestuurd door de destijds 19-jarige A.Z. uit Dwingeloo. Hij heeft teveel gedronken en rijdt veel te hard. „Binnen zijn vriendenkring was hij zeker niet de enige die lichtzinnig omging met drank in het verkeer”, vertelt Dekker in de podcast. De rechtbank in Assen veroordeelt de bestuurder tot twee jaar jeugdgevangenisstraf en een rijontzegging. „Een hele hoge straf”, vindt Molenaar. Previously, she has been collaborating with radio operators based at some historical antennas, such as the Bochum Radio Observatory (DE) and the Dwingeloo radio telescope (NL). Camperaars ontdekken massaal Drenthe. Dat blijkt uit de grote toestroom van campers afgelopen week op de recreatieparken. Het nieuwe camperpark Stee in Lhee bij Dwingeloo, dat dit seizoen voor het eerst open is, moest zelfs het bordje 'vol' aan de weg zetten. En ook op camping De Berken in Gasselte staan in tegenstelling tot andere jaren tientallen campers.

Our featured guest for this special 100th episode is Dr Vanessa Moss, astronomer and Head of CSIRO’s ASKAP Science Operations. CSIRO is Australia’s leading science organisation and ASKAP is the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder radio telescope array in Western Australia. Vanessa tells us about her PhD  ‘The Galactic ecosystem: Outflow and infall in the halo of the Milky Way” and her work at Sydney Observatory. We hear about her move over to Dwingeloo in the Netherlands to work as a telescope scientist with ASTRON, working with the Apertif upgrade on the WSRT and LOFAR, We look at the Big Data issues growing in radio astronomy and her vision to harness VR as a way of visualising both data, workflow and instrument training. We hear about her current Milky Way Halo research, the SEAFOG project and working on the FLASH team.

Recordaantal pimpelmezen bj tuinvogeltelling, welke insecten vind je in de stad? In het Markiezaat slapen tienduizenden vogels, de column van Jean-Pierre Geelen, commotie rond ooievaarsboom in Dwingeloo en de opmars van de rat.

In de bossen van Dwingeloo staat het gebouw van Astron, met in de achtertuin: een enorme radiotelescoop. In de jaren 50 was hij - voor 2 maanden - de grootste ter wereld. Nu is het een rijksmonument en houden vrijwilligers hem draaiende. Ondertussen wordt er in de kelder van het hoofdgebouw aan de toekomst gesleuteld. Een indrukwekkend nieuw meetinstrument - WEAVE - staat op het punt om op transport te gaan naar de telescoop in La Palma. Vlak voor dit optische en technische hoogstandje officieel lichtdicht wordt afgesloten en de vrachtwagen in wordt getild, mochten we van NOVA even naar binnen kijken.

Extreme zonnestormen komen gelukkig relatief weinig voor. Maar als ze plaatsvinden (en dat is moeilijk te voorspellen) kan de schade op aarde vele malen groter zijn dan we eerst dachten. Zweedse onderzoekers vonden door ijskernen uit Groenland te analyseren dat in 660 V.Chr. een zonnestorm de aarde moet hebben bereikt die 10 keer groter is dan de zonnestormen die we de afgelopen 70 jaar hebben gemeten. In een tijd waarin de wereld steeds meer op elektriciteit en technologie draait zou de impact van zo'n zonnestorm erg dramatisch zijn, omdat de hoog-energetische geladen zonnedeeltjes gemakkelijk satellieten of elektriciteitsnetwerken kunnen beschadigen. Verslaggever Martijn van der Zande trok naar ASTRON (Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy) in Dwingeloo en sprak over de impact van zonnestormen met radiosterrenkundige Michiel Brentjnes. Brentjens is bezig met de bouw van een telescoop, zodat Nederland ook een publieke dienst heeft die de activiteit van de zon in de gaten houdt en meehelpt om de nodige instanties op tijd te waarschuwen.

This programme kicks off a series of nostalgic episodes about radio broadcasting. In 1997 we visited Wim Stuiver, a radio enthusiast who had built a private museum inside a farmhouse near the Dutch town of Diever. It was one of the best collections I've ever seen, telling the story of the early days of radio. Wim had not only restored each piece to working order, he also knew the history behind each of the set. Sadly the museum no longer exists. Although a foundation was set up to try and preserve the collection in the Plantron in Dwingeloo, in the end the money ran out. Everything was sold off for a song. The display cases are now in the Archeological Museum in Diever. I'm guessing this is the only radio programme that was made there in quite such detail. I understand Wim Stuiver now lives in Happy Memories. 

What use is an F-call? If you've ever sat at home wanting to listen to HF but you're radio is out of commission, worse still, you haven't yet got a radio, or your antenna is a project in progress, I stumbled on a way to have your cake and eat it too. I was hunting for examples of a pile-up and I'd found in the past radios that had been hooked up to the Internet that you could tune and listen to. Today I stumbled across something of a different magnitude altogether. Something called Software Defined Radio on the Web, or websdr. A group of amateurs at the Technical University of Twente put up the worlds first websdr in 2007. It was conceived in an attempt to connect the 25m radio telescope in Dwingeloo to the world, for radio amateurs doing Earth Moon Earth or EME contacts, it snowballed from there. So, now you can go to websdr.org, pick from a list of 40 receivers around the planet and listen to what ever frequency is within the station's range. The Twente receiver does 0 to 29MHz, there are UHF, VHF and GHz receivers to be found. The software runs a Java Applet that sits in your web browser displaying either a waterfall or spectrum scope and you can see the whole band at the same time. On your normal radio, you tune to 7.093 and have a listen. If you hear nothing, you move the dial and try again, rinse and repeat until you hear a station calling CQ. With SDR, you can see all frequencies at the same time. The software allows you to switch between modes, so you can decode the signal as AM, LSB, USB, FM, CW, what ever you want. You can set the bandwidth and play with the tuning, all while others are doing the exact same thing on their computer with what ever frequency they're using. Your own radio does one frequency at the time, SDR does them all at the same time and you can zoom in and out, scan around and find the elusive 10m contacts. With one look at the display you can see if 10m is active right now, or if it's a dead duck. The web site again is websdr.org, check it out, use it to tune your pile-up skills for the next contact, or use it to find a station you like, turn on your own radio and have a QSO. Radio telescopes must be very large in size to achieve the same resolution as optical telescopes. The only way to do this is by coupling two or more of them, the further apart the better, and to analyse their combined signals. An interferometer is a system which can avoid increased expenses due to the large size of the receiver. It consists of two or more elements of large antennae. By connecting them in a special fashion, it is possible to artificially create a larger telescope.
