We mochten weer vogels spotten in de kunst en dit keer bij de grootste Mankes tentoonstelling ooit in Museum Arnhem. Maar wie was deze Jan Mankes? Hij staat bekend als de verstilde schilderen door zijn dromerige werken, maar daarmee vangen we hem niet in zijn geheel. Al in het begin van de 20ste eeuw zag hij dat mens en dier in harmonie moesten leven. Als sociaal christen in een rumoerig Europa dat op de rand van oorlog balanceerde en waar moderne schilders hun doorbraak vonden, zocht Mankes juist de rust en schoonheid van de natuur op. Zijn liefde voor de natuur is dan ook in bijna al zijn werken te zien met een bijzondere liefde voor vogels, want die kon hij als geen ander schilderen. Geïnspireerd door schilders uit de 17e eeuw weet Mankes een geheel eigen stijl te creëren en een indrukwekkend oeuvre neer te zetten. Egbert-Jan Rots directeur van het 148 jaar oude familiebedrijf Rots Bouw kreeg een bijzonder verzoek van een bezwaarmaker die ‘zijn' woningbouwplan aanvecht: Kunje me 125.000 euro overmaken? In plaats daarvan besloot hij op eigen risico's alvast te beginnen met bouwen. In de nieuwste aflevering van de podcast Doorzagen van Cobouw vertelt Rots zijn verhaal: “Dit is gewoon chantage.”Het lijkt tegenwoordig wel een sport geworden om bezwaar te maken tegen bouwplannen. Onlangs viel uit onderzoek van Sweco op te maken dat één op de drie woningbouwplannen te maken heeft met omwonenden die bestemmingsplannen aanvechten. Twee, of drie jaar later blijken in relatief veel gevallen de bezwaren ongegrond. Of anders gezegd: blijkt de vertraging onnodig. Bouwdirecteur Egbert-Jan Rots ergert zich hier aan. Dat mensen mogen opkomen voor hun belangen staat volgens hem niet ter discussie, maar steeds vaker krijgt hij het gevoel dat bezwaarmakers louter bezwaar maken om er zelf financieel wijzer van te worden.  Op een dag kwam een bezwaarmaker ook naar hem toe: als Rots 125.000 euro zou overmaken, zou de bezwaarmaker zijn ‘strijd' tegen de komst van een nieuwe woonwijk in Arnhem staken. “En zijn buurman wilde 25.000 euro”, zegt Rots in Doorzagen. De bouwdirecteur liet zich niet kennen, omdat hij denkt te weten in zijn recht te staan. Na meerdere beroepszaken die in ‘zijn voordeel' uitvielen gaat Rots ervanuit dat de plannen binnenkort onherroepelijk worden verklaard. Sterker nog: hij is al met bouwen begonnen. Rots roept woningbouwminister Keijzer op om bij afhandelen van bezwaren het motief van bezwaarmakers een rol te laten spelen.In het kader van wederhoor heeft Cobouw contact gezocht met de bezwaarmaker. Die heeft nog niet gereageerd.

Om meer te weten te komen, ging ze ook zelf voor een klas vol pubers staan. Het angstzweet breekt ons al uit bij die gedachte, maar zij vond het leuk (en ook wel pittig natuurlijk). In deze uitzending breekt ze een lans voor de leraar en vertelt ze wat je allemaal tegenkomt als je voor de klas staat. Ze schreef het allemaal op in het boek Wie Wil Er Voor De Klas?. Released in 1977, A Bridge Too Far stands as the last grand-scale WWII film produced by the Hollywood studio system. The film ambitiously sought to bring to life Operation Market-Garden, the bold but ultimately doomed Allied campaign of September 1944, culminating in the failed attempt to capture the Arnhem bridge. Producer Joseph E. Levine gathered an incredible ensemble cast, featuring legends like Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, Sean Connery, James Caan, Michael Caine, Elliott Gould, Dirk Bogarde, and Laurence Olivier. The movie was shot on location in Holland, with the town of Deventer doubling as Arnhem to recreate the intense and chaotic battle scenes. When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, it wasn't the Germans who first uprooted Stanislaw Kulik and his family—it was the Russians. Deported to a Siberian Gulag, Stanislaw's fate took a dramatic turn in 1941 when the Germans launched their invasion of the Soviet Union. Suddenly, the Russians released their Polish captives, and Stanislaw embarked on an arduous journey across thousands of miles. He eventually joined the Polish army in Uzbekistan, a path that would lead him to Britain and ultimately to the frontlines in Holland, where he fought with the Polish Parachute Brigade at Arnhem. Joining me is Nicholas Kinloch, the grandson of Stanislaw Kulik.
