ACTIVITY THREE: For our third activity let’s play Turkey Day Pictionary Here’s how it works. Use the provided activity sheet or write down 20 words that have to do with Turkey Day. Words like, cranberry, pumpkin, autumn, corn. and turkey of course. A quick note here, if you are new to drawing, practice ahead of time so you feel more confident. Once all of your themed words are written down. Cut them out into strips and place them in a hat. You will also need some blank pieced of paper and drawing utensils and a timer. Then grab your friends and family for a friendly game of Turkey Day Pictionary. Divide yourselves up into two teams. Each member of the team will take turns being the artist while the rest of the team tries to guess the secret word in under a minute. Be sure not to shout out the answer for the other team. Only guess when it is your team's turn. The team with the most correct guesses wins! The Paper Toss Game: Make your own triangle paper tosser or use the printable activity page. For folding instructions. Then find a smooth flat surface. Make a starting line with a piece of tape then. Flick your paper tosser. Use a ruler to measure the distance. Can you beat your score? Challenge your friends and family. Make a prize to award the winner! 2.) The Rubber Ducky Match Game: Use the printable activity page or make your own playing tokens. You can use blank cards or matching lids or coins with paper taped to the bottom. You will need 20 altogether. They need to be identical in shape size and color. Then label two tokens #1 two tokens #2 up to #10. You will have 10 matching number pairs. Hooray now let’s play! Lay your tokens face down and mix them up. Then organize them into neat rows. The first player will flip two tokens over. Do you have a match? If you do, pull those tokens out the side. They are now your points! And you get to go again. If you don’t get a match flip them back down. Your turn is over but use your memory skills to make matches next turn. When all of the matches are collected. The player with the most matches wins. Older kids can play the game with more math skills. Every time you don’t get a match add the total of the mismatched numbers. Keep a running tally. The game ends when all of the matches are collected and the player with the lowest total number score wins. You can use multiplication too! You can also play by adding or multiplying your matches together and the player with the highest score wins. Or make up your own rules! Because Math rules!!! 3.) The Pie Eating Chart: Use the printable activity page or make your own blank pie chart by drawing a circle and dividing it into 10 equal slices. These slices represent the 10 pies Digger the Dog ate during the Pie Eating Contest! Yum Yum. Digger ate 4 blueberry pies. So color 4 of the pie slices Blue. Digger also ate 3 Pumpkin pies so color 3 of the pie slices Orange. Then Digger ate 2 Strawberry pies, so color 2 of the pie slices red. Finally, Digger ate 1 chocolate cream pie. Color the last slice of the pie brown. Now you have a chart that shows which pie digger ate the most and which pie digger ate the least! Older kids can calculate the percentages. Next, you can make your own pie chart for your 4 favorite foods!!! Use the printable activity page or start with a blank pie chart divided into 10 equal slices. To the side of the chart Write down or draw pictures of your 4 favorite foods and assign those foods each a different color. You will be coloring one slice of the pie for every food color. Your first favorite food gets 4 pie slices. Your second favorite food gets 3 pie slices. Your 3rd favorite food gets 2 pie slices and your 4th favorite food gets one pie slice. Yummy! Older kids can calculate percentages. You can make pie charts for your favorite toys, activities or even animals. Like Dogs! Today’s show celebrates all things Ocean and Beach. Here are all the directions for today’s SPECTACULAR activities. Activity #1- Bubble Fun First, grab some bubble solution or make your own bubble solution by mixing 4 cups of warm water with a half cup of sugar then mix in a half cup of dish soap. The longer you let your homemade bubble solution rest the better anywhere from 4 hours to overnight for optimal bubble-making. Next I want you to gather some objects to make your bubbles with, you can use a funnel, a disposable cup with a hole punched in the bottom, you can use a drinking straw or even form your own bubble wand with a wire hanger or pipe cleaner. Gather as many bubble making tools as you can and go outside to test your skills. Which of your bubble making tools makes the biggest bubble. How many little bubbles can you make with one blow. Which tool make your bubbles float the highest? Write down or sketch all of your findings to decide which tool is the ultimate bubble maker!!! Activity #2- The Lighthouse Game This game is best to be played with a group of 5 or more friends. Here’s how it works: 1 player is the lighthouse, at least 3 players are the rocks and all of the remaining players are ships. The ships need to start at the back of the room and turn around with their eyes shut or wear a blindfold. Then the lighthouse and rocks will get into place. Now we are ready to start the game one two three go!!! The lighthouse says “Beep Beep Beep” and the rocks say “Swish Swish Swish.” The boats turn around but keep their eyes shut tight. And listen for the lighthouse. Try to navigate your way around the swishing rocks without bumping into them. If you are a ship and you do bump a rock you have to stop join in with the other rocks. The first ship to reach the lighthouse is the winner of the game and gets to be the lighthouse next round. Happy playing everyone!!! Activity #3- Digging for Treasure You can do this activity on the beach or in your sand box. First, grab a piece of paper and something to draw with. You’ll need these for later. Next, I want you to go on a beach walk or nature walk. Collect 6 treasures. These can be cool rocks, a smooth stick, a shell or even an acorn. Then find a nice secret spot in the sand to bury your treasures. Cover the secret spot with sand and carve an “X” to mark the spot. Now pull out your paper and crayons to draw a treasure map. Look around for any land marks that would lead you back to find the treasure, be sure to include things like big rocks or trees nearby. Remember to draw and “X” on your map to show where the treasure is. Here is the fun part. Run around for 3 minutes. Go bananas running in all different directions. Then look at your treasure map and try to find your way back to your secret treasure. It’s time to dig it up! It’s okay if you don’t find all the treasure. You know that it’s safe in the ground. And there are always new treasures to discover outside! Happy playing everyone!!! Angela experienced rejection numerous times, when attempting to have her books published.  She learned that she did not need to be given permission to proceed. Instead, she gave herself permission to pursue her passion. Angela Ferrari is an artist, children's book author/ illustrator based in Portland Maine. She is the creator and host of the Story Spectacular podcast. Angela grew up in the mountains of western Maine. Living in a rural setting, she developed a talent for finding creative ways to play and captivate her imagination. After graduating with a BA in studio art from The University of Maine, Angela moved to Portland. She was accepted into the Assets for Artists program which focused on business finance for creative entrepreneurs. After completing the required training, Angela received matching grant funds for working capital. She then became a successful painter. She has since expanded her artistic endeavors, writing and illustrating three children's books: Digger's Daily Routine, An Extraordinary Book & What Do You See. Most recently Angela has launched Story Spectacular, a children's story podcast. The show features original stories and classic retellings. Listeners will enjoy creative stories with vivid characters and sound design.
