Featuring: Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, and Tamrielo   Hey Folks! We are down essentially half our folks and as a result we have a bit shorter show than our normal fare.  We start off with some discussion about Grace's return to Final Fantasy XIV and how Bel “influenced” them into coming back.  From there we talk a bit about Four Job Fiesta and how the White Mage start is REALLY rough.  We dive into Nova Drift and talk about its roguelike take on Asteroids or Geometry Wars. Tam talks about his love of arcade racers and talks about playing the 2012 Need for Speed: Most Wanted and then Ash and Bel try and sell him on Forza Horizon.  Tam also talks about What the Car…  which is also loosely a “car game” but not really.  Then we try and wrap up the show and suddenly remember that a Nintendo Direct happened and talk about some of the games showed off.   Topics Discussed: Bel Lures Grace back to FFXIV Speedrunning a Post Expansion Four Job Fiesta in Final Fantasy V White Mage Start is Awful Nova Drift Need for Speed: Most Wanted What the Car Nintendo Direct

Featuring: Ammosart, Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, Kodra, and Tamrielo   Hey Folks! This week we are down a Thalen which bumps a topic that we bumped last week, but whatever we have more! Bel starts off the show with a discussion about Blaugust coming soon and how the changes in the social media landscape are introducing it to more people.  From there we talk about the One of One Ring search being over, which dives into a discussion about whether or not the Sol Ring being an auto-include is good or not. Kodra has been using the SteamDeck as a primary travel computer and this works shockingly well.  We talk about the weird game that is Dave the Diver and then branch off into a discussion about whether or not Pizza Tower is actually good.  Tam shares some nostalgia for revisiting the Battlezone ‘98 Remaster and how it is a type of RTS that never really had its day.  Finally, Kodra and Ash share some of their progress in Four Job Fiesta as it is nearing the end of that event.   Topics Discussed: Blaugust is Coming 2 Million Dollar Card Found Debate about Magic the Gathering “Auto Includes” SteamDeck as a Primary Machine Dave the Diver Pizza Tower is Good? This is one of those shows when we had a long list of things to talk about, but we just sorta started on one topic and it developed a mind of its own.  First up we talk about Bel and his insane grinding nature when it comes to the Four Job Fiesta.  From there we reprise a topic that got bumped last night and talk about the unique nature of Guild Wars 1 almost trading card game like skill based system.  From there we dive into a discussion about the changes that were made with Guild Wars 2, and how they may have taken some wrong advice from the data at the time.  This dives into a discussion of what makes up a role in a game and how exactly games tend to message that.  We go through a whole series of leaps and wind up in a discussion about how freedom to change your build feels really good in games like Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3.  It even descends into a discussion about what exactly makes up the nature of a “Character” in a game, and if it should just be a cosmetic choice and everything of importance be account bound. Topics Discussed Bel and grinding in Final Fantasy V Guild Wars 1 Card Based Spells Guild Wars 2 and Abolition of Roles Taking the Wrong Queue from Data People who like only Tanking or Healing The Secret World - When a game has wrong choices What makes a Role a Role And how is it messaged? Freedom of Choice is Really Important What makes a Character a Character?

We were once again down a large number of folks because life happens and we were clearly on a streak of shows including all members that had to be broken.  Unlike last week however we have some topics! Bel talks a bit about playing Final Fantasy V for the first time without using the Four Job Fiesta rules, which we all know is backwards.  We talk a bit about Final Fantasy XIV including Eden Savage being released. From there we talk a bit about Fire Emblem Three Houses and the comparison to Persona as far as social links go.  Bel also gets informed of the casual no-perma-death mode which was the feature that kept him away from the series. Bel talks about the Destiny 2 Solstice of Heroes event and returning to the game after a bunch of content had been released.  Finally we wrap up with some talk about the Warframe summer event and Super Soaker combat. The Return of the Summer Slump In this episode: Summer is awesome, but at the same time, there's a slump in a lot of the things we love. After the initial burst of movies...we are left with a drought. Video games don't get released because they're waiting for that holiday smash success. And books...well, we don't even know when books release, remember? Did you guys know The Adventure Zone had a graphic novel? Beej didn't understand how a podcast does that. Void schools him. We talk about Funko Pops and how we decorate with them (or don't!) Beej went all-in on World of Warcraft because of Joe from Geektitude, and Void is still playing ESO -- but is seeing the MMO edges that frame the single-player stuff. Beej is playing AdventureQuest 3D. Void has never heard of it. He will hate it for the exact reasons Beej loves it. #TheCircleofLife Void really has thoughts on Westworld Season 2. It's kind of made Beej want to watch it more. Void really looks forward to season 3, since he says most of S2 led up to it. Void finally talks about his Final Fantasy V runthrough for the Four Job Fiesta. He has thoughts on Geomancer, and he's still learning the game after 5 plays all the way to the end. And there's a lot more, folks. Just listen. You will like it. :) Support the Podcast: patreon.com/geektogeekcast - special rewards for patrons! audibletrial.com/geektogeekcast Weekly Geekery The whole episode is basically geekery!  We jump around between books, movies, game, and more in this episode. Gaming Motivation In this episode: This is a video games podcast, but we've never really talked about WHY we play video games--either certain types of games or even why video games over other types of media.  We discuss what we get out of video games, and how we love that sweet, sweet dopamine hit. Void and Beej both look for different things in games, but they end up playing totally similar ones, too. It's fun to see how people can get value in different ways from gaming.  We discuss what games appeal to us, why, and how we look toward the future in terms of how we've changed our habits in the past. We even have a tangent on when we play games, our sleep schedules because of gaming, and cool stuff like that! Weekly Geekery Beej watches Girlboss, Master of None, Handmaid’s Tale, and plays some more WoW!
