In 1992, Final Fantasy V came to Super Famicom in Japan, but in the west, the seminal JRPG would remain a mystery for years. In 1999 (via PS1!) English-speaking audiences would gain access to the game for the first time (unless you played fan translations via emulator, of course), and since then -- whether on GBA, PC, phones, or more recently modern consoles -- FFV has always held an interesting place in the pantheon of great Final Fantasy titles. Is it as monumental as IV, VI, or VII? Not at all. But it's still extremely special in its own right, an adventure predicated on a robust jobs system that would later help inspire the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics, jobs utilized by a small core group of protagonists that stand the test of time (and pull at your heartstrings, too). For KnockBack's triumphant return, we thought we'd get back into the Pixel Remasters where we left off, and needless to say, we've got a lot to go over. So get in your airship, or on your chocobo, or whatever mode of transportation speaks to you most, and join us for another old-school chat. Learn more about your ad choices. Many months ago now, I had the chance to go to the WNDR Museum in Boston. If you google that, it will come categorized as a “tourist attraction.” but it is a lot more than that, especially considering that I wouldn't classify myself as a “tourist” since I live outside of Boston. More specifically, and even importantly, WNDR is an interactive art museum with immersive art installations. And it was very interactive and immersive. There were a lot of great exhibits that invited you to engage and become surrounded by the creations that were provided there. Whether you are a tourist or not, it is definitely worth a visit. So it was a very pleasant surprise to find that my guest today actually had an installation at the WNDR Museum. It was this very cool outdoor-type of building where you could be with others and experience an audio and visual immersion of rain and lightning. One of the fun things about it was that you were there with strangers, basically arranged in a way that you were experiencing it together. I didn't know that when I first met Leigh Sachwitz to discuss being on the show. But it was one of the, dare I say, “wonderful” things I found out about Leigh and her work with her Berlin-based company flora&faunavisions (FFV). I got to learn about their award-winning work on projects like the Ring Cycle, a digital opera that creates an immersive experience of the work by Richard Wagner. I also learned about her work on the Utopian Garden, described as a story-based immersive, interactive show where participants can tour the world. She described their Flying Up Sparrows event in China, where Buddhist paintings were brought to life. Finally, she explains their work behind the Genius DaVinci Show that just opened up in Florida this past November. “This exhibition invites you to step into Renaissance Italy to explore Leonardo da Vinci's masterpieces and inventions up close.” And the great thing about this is the way that educational and entertainment come together to form what Hip Hop artist KRS-One described as “Educatinment.” Or, in Leigh's words, how do you create experiences that draw people into the moment and produce, empathy, emotional connection, and curiosity. We covered a lot of other ground, including the science of immersive experiences, how we can co-create our futures together using these kinds of experiences as a prompt, how we can inspire our imaginations to unlock the possibilities of ourselves, and the intersection of Detroit and Berlin as hubs of techno music. We're trying something new here on Rhythm Encounter. While there is no end to the variety of RPG music out there, sometimes we spot similar song titles on different soundtracks, which gave us an idea. For this episode, each panelist chose a pairing of two (near) identical track names from different games, so we could compare and contrast each version. As we learned, this is a topic that could repeat, as there's no shortage of potential songs that fit this theme. In preparation for April Fool's Day, someone at RPGFan suggested we finally tackle a long-standing idea: a joke episode that features only chocobo music from Final Fantasy. We loved the idea, but then a funny thing happened — a perfectly normal episode celebrating Nobuo Uematsu's iconic theme and its many, many iterations over the years. The idea was funny, but we love this little ditty too much for our praise to be anything but sincere. For those who loved RPGs during the SNES era, there was a game that forever seemed out of reach: Final Fantasy V. This unlocalized title was so legendary that it inspired the very first fan translation of a video game. Though Squaresoft eventually localized FFV for PSX in 1999, many still think of it as the black sheep of the Final Fantasy family. In today's Retro, our panel will talk about their history with the game, comb through the first half of the story, and examine how the expertly crafted job system impacted future titles in the series and beyond!Featuring: Jonathan Logan, Audra Bowling, Cory Tischbein, Quinton O'Conner; Edited by Jonathan LoganOpening and ending music by Miles MorkriGet in Touch:RPGFan.comEmail us: retro@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomInstagram: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancomRelated Links:Final Fantasy V Advance ReviewFinal Fantasy V (Pixel Remaster) Review

Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of Diego Armando Maradona. We at FFV have decided to re-release this memorable episode to remember the #D10S of football! FFV will be going over our glory era with a new series of podcasts called "The Maradona Era Chronicle". We will be reviewing each season of Maradona's time at Napoli from his signing from Barcelona in 1984, until his departure in 1991. During the time between our last episode and this one, we lost Diego Armando Maradona to a heart attack at age 60. His death was sudden and our hearts were broken. Before Maradona's passing, we began plans to resume the series and we decided 88/89 was so big, we had to record it in two parts. Little did we know, this would turn into a eulogy for the greatest of all time, the God of football himself. Here, we review our first and only Eurpoean trophy. It was the culmination of all the hard work and passion Diego put in to this club, Napoli. What better way to honor him than for Frank @franksidekick and Raffa @RaffaNapoli83 to include in this episode their thoughts on what he meant to them. We hope you enjoy this extra special edition of the Maradona Era Chronicles! Rest In Peace, Diego! AD10S! Forza Napoli Sempre!

Introducing episode #62, an incredible friend, coach and mentor of mine, Enrico Marrone. Enrico was my first soccer coach when I was just nine years old back in 2001, rocking up to Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood. Personally, I can't recall too much from the precise period, but from the memories I retain I remember Enrico to be one of the most encouraging people I've ever experienced in my life. It's a pleasure to still be involved in his life, and as a result I'm fortunate enough to share time with him as a committee member of Whitehorse United, where he has served as President for the past 10 odd years! In this conversation we chat about The World Game, how he got started and fell in love with it. Why soccer is a metaphor for life, and a host of other nuggets of wisdom from a man who - along with his wonderful wife Kim - has volunteered thousands of hours to the game at a grassroots level over several decades. It's a great honour to share this chat with my friend, Enrico Marrone. Please enjoy.SHOW LINKSEM Building DesignGet in touch with EnricoWhitehorse United - Whitehorse United on InstagramSPREAD THE HOPE!If you enjoyed this episode, I would love for you to share it with your friends and family, or even with a stranger in the street. In this episode our consciousness is projected back into the past to revisit this classic entry in the Final Fantasy series. We discuss the game's divisive mechanics, amazing story concepts, fan theories, and defend our boy Squall against the unjust criticism. We also touch on badly-aged tribal face tattoos, Siren's hairy muff, play shag-marry-kill with he cast of FF8, and much much more.
In episode 7 of the Final Fantasy podcast we discuss why FFV is still worth playing today. This month's guests were KainHighwind27 and TomatoBorris: This monthly series can be watched live on Twitch YouTube Playlist of Previous Episodes If you would like to take part in any future episodes, please DM Hbomb_Editor SOCIALS ▹
FFV was founded in 1999 in Berlin by Scottish native Leigh Sachwitz. In 1993, received her architectural diploma from the Glasgow School of Art, she arrived in the post wall city, a gigantic playground for creative people where nothing was impossible. She worked in an architect office by day, she helped create makeshift clubs, bars, art spaces for the night using all sorts of materials, light and projections. Later she would add sound and video. Her visuals, sights and sounds are ephemeral and bang on trend, mixing media and technologies, yet they create visceral experiences. From Leigh's first slides in Berlin's temporary spaces in the early 1990's, she and her ever growing FFV family have developed quickly further, with all the new technologies evolving that never cease to amaze Leigh. She is delighted every time she can try and create something entirely new, such as using live 3D mapping to choreographed visuals, 3D projections to a live performance, GPS motion tracking, always looking into tomorrow's latest trends, making FFV a multitalented organism of limitless creative potential, working all over the world, from music to architecture and events. Leigh will bring her good vibes as trained architect, working now over 20 years as an artist with light, one of the most important ingredients of architecture itself, as a layer to add meaning and emotions to the environment, to enhance our spacial experience and creating something unique. Following her motto: “Emotions trigger memories”.https://www.florafaunavisions.de/
