The battle of Armageddon will be a tragic day. The Old Testament Prophets call it the Day of the Lord because the battle for Jerusalem will usher in Judgment Day for all of humanity. But what if the strategy to win the battle is not in mighty military power but rather in the Grace and Love of God burning in in the hearts of HIS people? Armageddon will be real. The day of battle with be vicious and tragic. But the LORD wins not by military might but rather through the Grace of HIS Word that will burn in a Caldron igniting a fire of preaching and melting the hearts of the nations. Living under grace rather than under the law represents a fundamental shift in our relationship with God and approach to spiritual life. What is your story? How is your life? The woman, let us call her Jane, had such a journey. In today's parlance, we will say she had been unlucky with men. She married five of them, and they all did not fill the void she felt on the inside. Each one looked like it, but as soon as she got in, she realized that she had made another mistake. She had to endure many snide remarks. No one understood her, and it became embarrassing to the point she would rather go to the well when she was sure there was no one else there.    She found a way to escape by avoiding the crowd and staying away from social functions. She was sure to avoid other women's to avoid being accused of husband snatching. It was such a lonely road, but what could she do? This is what happened to me when I was involved in a near-fatal car accident that I shouldn't have walked away from... But God! In this episode, I am honored to speak with my childhood pastor, Kirk Havel. I wanted to interview him because of the role he has played in my life and how he has reframed stories in my life, especially around God. Kirk has shown me how to live out the gospel and a lot of times when you live out the gospel, it isn't always popular. He also showed me care, respect, love, and how I have the capacity to be a leader. He is an example of the kind of Christian I want to be. Kirk was born and raised in Ohio - forever a Buckeye! He graduated from Capital University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. In 1968, he married Sandra Magsig, raising two sons - one a small business owner in Arizona and the other is a pastor in Indiana.  Kirk and Sandy are also blessed with four grandchildren.  Following an internship in Portland, Oregon and seminary graduation, he served as pastor in Ohio and Michigan, assistant to the Bishop in Detroit working in the call process and conflict resolution, and the ELCA Church Council, before retiring in 2009 after 20 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, Michigan. In retirement, he continues to provide pastoral support to congregations and for the past 12 years, distributes a weekly essay called JUST WONDERING where he attempts to connect faith and life from his own experiences. Given his coronary artery disease resulting in two heart attacks and two by-pass surgeries, Kirk exercises daily as part of his routine.

Take us back to Lot, his sin, and the nations that came from it, but God doesn't end it there. He uses people like us, to redeem humanity and bring us close to Him. Don't lose hope! Because there is nothing you and I can do to mess up our kids as far as God cannot redeem them. His will is good and is always done, no matter what. Live in that grace today!
