This episode addresses a tension many believers feel but rarely understand: why truth, rules, and even Scripture can feel lifeless or oppressive. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 3, Dr. Jim explains that the issue is not the Word of God, but the absence of dependence on the Spirit of God. True Christianity is not self-powered obedience but Spirit-empowered life.Topics DiscussedThe meaning of “the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life”Why truth without the Spirit produces frustration rather than transformationHow rules and standards provoke rebellion when divorced from graceThe difference between self-effort Christianity and Spirit-enabled obedienceWhy the solution is not rejecting the Word, but relying on the SpiritKey TakeawaysThe Bible is never the problem; dependence on self is.Obedience without the Spirit leads to defeat, not freedom. The Spirit gives life to truth, enabling joyful, willing obedience.Christianity only works when Christ Himself is the source of power.Real freedom comes through surrender and faith, not self-discipline alone. In this powerful message from Pastor Karl, we journey beyond the manger to discover the timeless roots of Christmas in the Garden of Eden. Christmas is far more than a seasonal vibe—it's the profound story of God's unchanging love, revealed through proximity, provision, and loving parameters.Drawing parallels between Eden and Bethlehem, Pastor Karl shows how God has always pursued us: walking closely with humanity, generously providing what we cannot obtain ourselves, and setting protective boundaries for our good. Yet, from the beginning, humanity has often rejected this love, doubting God's goodness and choosing our own way.The heart of the gospel shines through as Pastor Karl reminds us that even in our rejection, God's love pursues and covers us—first promised in Genesis with the crushing of the serpent's head through the seed of the woman, and perfectly fulfilled in the incarnation of Jesus, Emmanuel, "God with us."This message challenges us: Will we embrace not just the warmth of Christmas, but the weighty claims of Christmas—God's call to love Him fully with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength through belonging to His family, becoming like Christ, giving generously, and going on mission?A stirring reminder that God's everlasting love didn't begin in Bethlehem—it was set in motion from the very beginning, for you and me.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
Bishop Robert Barron’s Sermons - Catholic Preaching and Homilies
Friends, our readings for the fourth and final Sunday of Advent are all about maybe the central motif of the spiritual life. Our culture today is so self-oriented: It's all about me and my choice. But that attitude is directly repugnant to the Bible; in fact, the Bible is constantly trying to move us out of that space and into a different space—namely, one of surrender to the higher purpose of God.
In this profound and hope-filled Advent message, Pastor Karl continues the Christmas series with an honest, Scripture-saturated exploration of the third great gift Jesus brings: joy. Turning to the familiar yet astonishing encounter in Luke 1:26–38, Pastor Karl places us in the world of a young, powerless Mary—living in obscurity, poverty, and spiritual dryness under Roman oppression—when an angel suddenly declares her “highly favored” and announces she will bear the Son of God as a virgin. With pastoral clarity and compassion, Pastor Karl redefines biblical joy not as a forced smile, fleeting happiness, or denial of pain, but as a deep, settled confidence and calm cheerfulness in God—even when circumstances feel devastating. Mary's potentially ruinous situation (public shame, rejection, and lifelong stigma) becomes the backdrop for a joy that is rooted not in perfect conditions but in surrender to a perfect Savior. Joy, he shows, is not situational; it flows from trusting God's greater reality, His unchanging character, and His presence when clarity is absent.Drawing from Mary's radical response—“Let it be to me according to your word”—Pastor Karl tenderly calls every listener to the same doorway of lasting joy: radical surrender. Whether facing disappointment, health struggles, dashed dreams, or seasons of grief, joy grows when we release control, timelines, and the need to understand, and instead say “Yes, Lord” to whatever He has spoken. This is essential listening for anyone longing to move beyond seasonal happiness into the quiet, resilient cheerfulness that only Christ, born in a manger and risen from an empty tomb, can give.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
God's plan for Mary looked nothing like what anyone expected, yet it revealed a peace that comes not from control but surrender. This message reminds us that even the craziest plans are steady and secure when they are God's, and that our lives fit within His eternal, unstoppable purpose.
In this stirring and deeply encouraging Advent message, Pastor Karl continues the series The King Has Come with a raw and life-giving exploration of the second great gift Jesus brings: peace.Turning to the familiar yet profound scene in Luke 2:8–20, Pastor Karl invites us into the midnight terror of ordinary shepherds—suddenly confronted by the blinding glory of God—and shows how the very first words from heaven that night were not “Merry Christmas,” but “Fear not.” That first Christmas did not begin with sentimental calm; it began with paralyzing, mega-fear. And right there, in the middle of stacked-on-stacked fear, the angel announced good news of great joy: a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord, the Prince of Peace. With pastoral tenderness and unflinching honesty, Pastor Karl unmasks fear as the mortal enemy of peace—how it magnifies threats, shrinks our view of God, and paints our future in colors darker than God ever intended. Yet the gospel is stronger: peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of a Person. Peace is not something Jesus gives; peace is who Jesus is—and He gives Himself.Through the shepherds' journey from terror to testimony, we're given clear, scriptural paths out of fear and into the unshakable peace of Christ: speaking God's truth over fear's lies, refusing to agree with the spirit of fear, drawing near to Jesus through spiritual disciplines, and taking bold steps of obedience that move us against comfort and toward surrender. This is a word for everyone whose heart has been ruled by anxiety, worst-case scenarios, or the quiet fears that steal joy—especially in this season. A tender yet urgent call to stop trusting the unknown future to our own control and start trusting it to the known God who entered our fear as a baby in a manger.Because the King has come, fear does not get the final word. Peace does. And when the Prince of Peace takes over a life, what spills out is no longer fear—but praise, testimony, and unshakable confidence in the goodness of God.Essential listening for anyone who longs to trade fear for the peace that passes all understanding this Christmas.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
In this Faith Talks conversation, Janna opens up about a quiet but heavy fear many young women feel yet rarely express: the fear of wasting their lives. Through honest reflections on comparison, expectations, and the pressure to measure up, she shares how God has been reshaping her perspective. Her story offers a refreshing reminder that a life surrendered to Christ is never wasted, even when the path feels unseen or slow.Topics DiscussedThe subtle ways comparison fuels fear and insecurityWhy “falling behind” is more about perception than truthLearning to trust God with timing, calling, and identityHow hidden seasons often become the most shaping onesWhat surrender looks like when fear gets loudAllowing God to define significance instead of culture or peersKey TakeawaysFear of wasting your life usually grows in the gap between what you expected and what God is actually doing.Comparison blinds you to the quiet work of grace happening beneath the surface.God never wastes obedience; He wastes nothing surrendered to Him.Slow seasons are often the most formative, teaching humility, trust, and resilience. The antidote to fear isn't striving harder but resting more deeply in God's faithfulness.Faith Talks is a monthly program on the Thee Generation Podcast designed to help young ladies grow in faith and live it out daily. In this episode, Bobby reflects on six months of pastoring and draws young people into a powerful truth from Psalm 32. God desires to lead His children with the slightest glance, not the painful pressure required for a stubborn horse or mule. Through vivid imagery and practical challenge, you'll hear how walking closely with God creates a life guided by subtle nudges instead of force — and surrounded by His steadfast love. Recognizing Jesus as Savior changes your destiny—recognizing Him as Lord changes your life.
In this world, evil men and seducers are waxing worse and worse. God is searching for a people who will pay the price in their own personal lives to please Him. Only after we are willing to confess our sin can we call out to God in prayer. The first request God desires us to make is for His will to be done. The Lord is still working on us. He is opposed to the wickedness of our world, but it is in our hearts and hands that God will first do His work.

How to Surrender to God When You Don't Want To
This Sunday, we were joined by a special speaker, Marco David, who shared with us from Luke, chapter 20. He challenged us to be dual citizens of heaven & earth, acting as faithful ambassadors in a fractured world by prioritizing spiritual disciplines, pursuing unity, and engaging honorably. This message is from 10/19/25.
Bobby looks back on the life and ministry of Pastor Russ G. Young, the faithful shepherd who shaped his family, church, and calling. From a hungry youth group that exploded from ~15 teens to hundreds, to a church built—literally and spiritually—on the Word, Pastor Young modeled uncompromising preaching, Spirit-dependence, and love for souls. Bobby recounts personal moments (including sharing gratitude at Pastor Young's bedside) and connects the story to a call for total surrender and confidence that, in Christ, we are “more than conquerors.” The episode is part remembrance and part rallying cry for young believers to say “yes” to Jesus and watch God use their lives.Topics DiscussedPastor Russ Young's legacy in Maple Shade/Pennsauken, NJPreaching the Bible plainly and applying it to real teen issuesYouth ministry that was both fun and gospel-focused (“Bigger & Better,” outreach, soulwinning)God's providence in redirecting callings (missionary aviation → pastor)The power of Spirit-anointed preaching and evangelismSurrender, obedience, and living as “more than conquerors” in ChristGratitude, grief, and hope in the face of deathKey TakeawaysFaithful, clear Bible preaching—without apology or compromise—shapes lives and churches.God often redirects good plans to His best; say “yes” to Jesus and trust His leading.Healthy youth ministry blends joyful activity with bold, gospel-centered proclamation.Legacy multiplies through people reached, discipled, and sent.In Christ, even grief is framed by victory: we are more than conquerors through His love. A new MP3 sermon from Sharon RP Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Surrender to God’s Will Subtitle: Coffee and Devotions Speaker: Bryan Schneider Broadcaster: Sharon RP Church Event: Devotional Date: 10/9/2025 Bible: Jeremiah 38:14-28 Length: 11 min.
A — About: This passage reveals Jeremiah's final counsel to King Zedekiah—God calls him to surrender to Babylon, not as an act of weakness, but of obedience to divine will. Zedekiah fears men more than God, while Jeremiah courageously delivers God's truth despite danger. B — Best Verse: Jeremiah 38:17–18 (NKJV) — "Thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: 'If you surely surrender to the king of Babylon's princes, then your soul shall live; this city shall not be burned with fire, and you and your house shall live.'" C — Call to Action: We are called to trust God's word completely, even when obedience seems costly. Human fear and self-preservation lead to ruin, but humble surrender to God's command brings life and peace. Follow Christ, the perfect King, who surrendered Himself for our salvation.

In Luke 20:19-26, Jesus confronts a cunning trap from the religious elite. As dual citizens of earth and heaven, we must navigate the plots that seek to divide us by maintaining a God-centered perspective and engaging in faithful practices that honor both our earthly responsibilities and our ultimate allegiance to King Jesus.

Are you exhausted from trying to be a “better Christian,” follow all the rules, or just fix yourself? In this episode, Heather Creekmore dives into the age-old dilemma every believer faces: Am I supposed to be working on me—and if so, how much of it is up to me, and how much is God’s job? Inspired by the Crowder song “He’s Working on Me Still,” Heather explores the difference between self-powered striving and Spirit-powered transformation. Using honest stories, biblical wisdom (especially from Galatians 5), and practical illustrations, she helps Christian women understand why hustling for holiness leaves us tired—and how true freedom and growth comes when we move from “I’m working on me” to “He’s working on me.” In This Episode: Why spiritual striving, religious rule-following, and willpower can’t bring long-term freedom How diet culture mindsets sneak into our faith and make us rely on formulas instead of God What it means to step out of the driver’s seat and let God be in control (with relatable analogies and humor) The power of relationship over religion and why faith is more than just “doing all the things” How to recognize if your spiritual life is based on head knowledge, not heart transformation Practical steps to move from self-reliance to Spirit-dependence—including honest reflection questions and the importance of daily worship Key Takeaway:Stop striving for self-improvement and start leaning into God’s grace. This is message 24 in The Power of God's Name James 5:13-16 Anointing in the name of the Lord is an act of faith that declares total surrender to God's will. It is not a mystical ritual but a recognition that life, health, and even weakness belong fully to Him. Through prayer, confession, and dependence on His power, believers acknowledge that God alone has authority over their circumstances. Whether He grants physical healing or calls them to serve through ongoing weakness, the surrendered life becomes a testimony of His sovereignty, holiness, and grace. This is message 22 in The Power of God's Name Philippians 2:5-13 Christ, though fully God, chose humility, taking the form of a servant and submitting to death on the cross to fulfill the Father's will. Because of His obedience, God exalted Him and gave Him the name above every name, before which every knee will bow and every tongue confess His lordship. Have you ever been told you need to “surrender” to become more useful to God? To some of us, “surrender” almost sounds like we're criminals or in an opposing army, right? It's time to challenge this made-up jargon and see it for what it is – unhealthy and sometimes even abusive. The New Testament never mentions surrendering to God. Instead, we simply present ourselves and our bodies to Him. Yes, We're on the same team!Plus, God isn't tearing you down to make you more useful; He's building you up in Christ! You're His child, and you don't need to be “crushed” or be more “sold out” to express Jesus.Check out this episode and discover the healthy place you can enjoy in God's family and what it means to be secure and complete in Christ! We hope you enjoyed this episode. As I think about surrender, I'm reminded of how much of a struggle it can be for us. After all, surrender feels like losing. No one wants to raise the white flag of surrender.Main Points:1. We must see that everything we need is on the other side of surrendering our life to Jesus. As long as we are resistant and focused on ourselves, we'll miss out on what God could have done in and through our lives.2. In prayer, let's search our hearts today and listen for the Holy Spirit to address those areas of our own lives that we may not have surrendered to God.3. Let's experience the joy of a life fully surrendered to God. May we be able to truly say, “All to thee my blessed Savior, I surrender all.”Today's Scripture Verses:Mark 10:17-22 - “As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good. But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.” “Teacher,” the man replied, “I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven't done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man's face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

This is message 54 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 57:1-20 God, the eternal and Holy One, rules with perfect justice and mercy. He draws near to the humble and offers peace to the contrite, but the wicked who reject Him remain restless and without hope. True peace is found only in surrender to the One who inhabits eternity.
