In this episode, Chris welcomes Jess AKA “Omnidog” from “Omnidog's Vault ” YouTube channel to discuss one of his favorite comic book runs of all time, “Green Lantern/Green Arrow: Hard Traveling Heroes”. Dennis O'Neil and Neil Adams raised the expectations for and expanded the idea of what could be accomplished with mainstream commercial comics. What does it take to be a superhero? Where should a superhero stand in society? What is important to a superhero? These are all questions Green Arrow aims to ask Green Lantern by forcing the space cop out of the stars and onto the ground where real issues are festering. Together, these hard-traveling heroes traverse America, and a few alien landscapes, to understand how the world is not black-and-white. Poverty, corruption, pollution, racism and drug addiction are only some of the issues the emerald warriors face. Neal Adams was the most influential artist in comic books for over 50 years. From his work on the X-Men at Marvel to the ground breaking work he did with Dennis O'Neil on Batman as well as Green Lantern and Green Arrow, his style has influenced many young artists in the business. He would bring Batman back to his grim and gritty roots as well as bring emotional personal and social issues onto the pages of Green Lantern and Green Arrow ranging from racism to drug addiction. Revealing in dramatic fashion that the Green Arrows own sidekick had become addicted to heroin.  Neal Adams was also an advocate for the rights of his fellow creators leading the charge in the 1970s to get the creators of Superman the credit as well as the financial compensation they had been long overdue to receive.  In this episode Bret and Andrew look back and celebrate the career of a unique artist that changed the landscape of comics as we know it today.

Happy Friday, Freaks, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the greenest podcast on the interwebs that has nothing at all to do with saving the environment. But oddly enough, the story in today's books DOES deal with saving the environment, in the most ridiculous way ever. This Friday, Green Arrow Conner Hawke and Green Lantern Hal Jordan team up to take down a radical eco-terrorist organization called the New Eden Corps. They've enlisted the aid of one of Hal's Air Force companions who just so happens to be willing to sell these nut jobs a nuclear bomb that they plan on detonating on Mount Rainier, causing the active volcano to erupt and destroy a major portion of the state of Washington. Yeah...it's comic book science at it's wonkiest. But is does allow for a great crossover between the Green Arrow and Green Latnern book and it does allow Conner and Hal to do their version of the Hard Traveling Heroes. And to wrap things up, we finish up the Green Lantern/Sentinel: Heart of Darkness storyline where we discover the final fate of Alan, Jenny, Todd, and Kyle as they try desperately to escape the nightmarish realm of the mystical Starheart. Plus, Paul Pelletier gets to draw Jenny in an outfit that almost rivals Arisia's "Hooker Jem" outfit (That's hawt...). Salutations, lovely listeners and welcome to another very Green episode of Just One of the Guys. Not green in the fact that the podcast was produced with 75% recycled material, but green in the fact that we are wrapping up the Hard Traveling Heroes: The Next Generation storyline in Green Lantern #77 and Green Arrow #111. This time out Kyle finds his "father", Conner chats with dirty hippies, we see a Proto-Lara Croft in the character of Crackshot, and Kyle's "father" plots to bring America back to a better time through use of a "communications satellite"...that is nuclear powered...and has particle beam weaponry on it. Heaven forbid Fox or MSNBC get this idea to "communicate" with the masses. Plus we get some great action from Ron Marz and Chuck Dixon, two writers who did the Nineties proud. Add to that the return of Michael Bailey (Views From the Longbox, From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, and PADSmash: An Incredible Hulk Podcast) to add lively commentary (and marvel at how smoking hot Crackshot is), and you've got a show you don't want to miss. So unless you want to hear more of Aaron's "patriotic" musings, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! (http://twotruefreaks.com/main.php) family of podcasts, the best place on the internet to find shows about Star Wars, Star Trek, Comics, Movies, and anything else that the modern geek could ever want. If you are downloading the show through iTunes, be sure to leave a rating, hopefully a FIVE STAR RATING, because every rating we get helps grow the shows on the network! Thanks for listening, and be sure to come back next Friday for another episode of Just One Of The Guys: A Green Lantern Podcast.
