Episode 50 - Murdock and Marvel: 1999 Part 2 Last week we closed the curtain on the first volume of Daredevil, and now we are reaching the end of the millennium itself, as comics continue to barrel towards their own version of Y2K.  Sales keep dropping and more publishers leave the field, but signs of life start to show if you look in the right places.  It's 1999, and comics still are not dead.  This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 1999.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances: Daredevil #3-9, Earth X #0-2 and 5-7, Mutant X #6, Avengers #15-16, Avengers Forever #8, Black Widow #1-3, Spider-Man: Chapter One #9 and 12, Fantastic Four #21 and 23, Uncanny X-Men #370, Wolverine/Punisher: Revelations #3, Deathlok #1, along with Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil #1 and the Avengers 1999 and Contest of Champions graphic novels Writing: Kevin Smith (#1-8), David Mack (#9) Pencils: Joe Quesada (#1-9) Inks: Jimmy Palmiotti (#1-9) The year for Daredevil actually began in November 1998 when the first book of the Guardian Devil storyline hit comic book stores. We briefly touched on what happened during the first two books a couple weeks ago, but with this storyline taking up half the year – we'll be looking at the story in-depth as our spotlight story this week.  After the guardian Devil storyline ended in June 1999, we didn't get another book in the main Daredevil title until December. When we get the start of another multi-book storyline called Parts of a Hole with a new writer in David Mack. We won't go into much detail on this until we look at Daredevil in 2000, but it starts with The Kingpin sends a hitman after a stoolie being questioned by Nelson and Murdock.  This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil volume 2 #1-8 November 1998 – June 1999 “Guardian Devil”  Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway Setting up the foundation to the future. In this week's Second Print Comics Podcast, while the SPC Hiatus continues we look into the recent past with another SPC Classic, as Marc and Remso look back at a classic '90's crossover event, Maximum Carnage!“Maximum Carnage” was an epic 14-part 1993 crossover in which Spider-Man and “anti-hero” Venom, along with various other superheroes, team up to take on Venom's murderous spawn, Carnage, who forms his own band of villains to wreak havoc on New York City. This storyline became so much more, as it achieved huge sales numbers for Marvel Comics and became a pop-culture phenomenon, even inspiring a video game and theme park attraction. In todays Second Print Comics Podcast, Marc leads Remso through this epic event, as they look at the good, the bad and the....never ending stream of B and C list characters in our breakdown of "Maximum Carnage!" Along the way, you'll learn earn more than you ever wanted to know about such random, irrelevant characters such as Shriek, Demogoblin, Carrion, Deathlok, The Molten Man, Nightwatch and more! Support the Second Print Comics Podcast over on Patreon for continued content through our temporary hiatus and perks, including early episode releases, bonus rants, access to the Second Print Comics Fan Zone on Facebook, and so much more that you're just gonna have to check it out to find out!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/second-print-comics-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Enjoy! SYNOPSIS (courtesty of Wiki): Arriving in England to deliver the Deathlok cyborg to Dr. Kort, the Thing, and Alicia spend a bit of time sightseeing before going to their appointed destination. Arriving there, they find that the entire mansion has been overturned; unaware that Dr. Kort had been kidnapped by Hydra who intends to have the doctor revive their agent, Spider-Woman. When Alicia finds blood at the scene of the kidnapping, her screams bring Shang-Chi, who mistakes the Thing for an attacker. After a brief battle, they realize the reality of the situation and Shang-Chi agrees to help the Thing find Dr. Kort. Tracking him down to a hidden Hydra base, Thing and Shang-Chi fight off the Hydra hordes and save Dr. Kort. However, in spite of their victory, Hydra has obtained the serum they need to revive Spider-Woman. Ben and Alicia are still in London enjoying the sights when Ben hears an explosion. Investigating, he finds two crooks who are blasting open the secret locations of map plates which would lead to a long lost treasure. As the Thing tries to round them up, he is attacked by the newly revived Spider-Woman, who is once more loyal to Hydra. She has come to terminate Ben, however, at the last moment, she chokes and is later forced to flee. Returning to Hydra headquarters she angers her superiors but promises to kill Ben Grimm next time. Later, while sight-seeing, Ben and Alicia are once more attacked by Spider-Woman, who kidnaps Alicia and flies off. Ben chases after her but runs amok of the same crooks trying to uncover yet another piece of their treasure map. Ben fights through them and picks up his trail on Spider-Woman, which takes him to Big Ben, where the two battle it out. Although Ben has superior strength, he's no match for Spider-Woman's speed and venom blasts. However before a victor can be made, the two crooks -- also at Big Ben to find another part of the map, capitalize on the battle to try and eliminate Ben, and so they detonate a bomb which knocks both Thing and Spider-Woman into the Thames River. The Thing Does It One-Handed Hello, and welcome to episode 314 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. We kick off our eighth(!) year of podcasting by returning to Project Pegasus to see how Ben Grimm and Quasar do when confronted by the Marvel Universe's favourite ex-con-who-was-turned-into-a-cyborg-assassin-from-an-alternate-future-before-finding-himself-stranded-in-the-present-day-who-will-later-be-retconned-to-actually-be-a-robotic-duplicate - Deathlok! Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, John Byrne, Joe Sinnott, Bob Sharen, John Costanza, Roger Stern, George Perez, and Terry Austin present Marvel Two-in-One #54, a cautionary tale of failed assassinations, deadly radiation, some confusion between identically-named Marvel and DC heroes, and a some unexpected blood. The Usborne Book Of International Plugs Hello, and welcome to episode 268 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. This week, we're back in good ol' blummin' perishin' Blighty for another issue of Marvel Two-in-One. Nighthawk's in town for entirely spurious reasons, Deathlok's waking up, Nick Fury's got some presents to give out, and there's a giant icy stone, just waiting to release the morally ambiguous monster within. Or is the true monster the one within all of us? Aaaaah... Marv Wolfman, Ron Wilson, and Pablo Marcos present Marvel Two-in-One #34, featuring suspiciously non-English hunters, hospitals, churches, plug attachments, and methods of extinguishing fires. We're also having a look at the original elements of Fantastic Four #189, which doesn't take very long at all. Don't Cry For Me Latveria Hello, and welcome to episode 253 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. This week, we're delving into the realms of the 1970s conspiracy thriller, as a technical wizard, a mesmeric master, and a mind-controlled zombie cyborg from an alternate future ripped from his own time come together to try and assassinate President Jimmy Carter at the moment of his inauguration. Yes, it's our coverage of Marvel Two-in-One #27 - Day Of The Demolisher! Marv Wolfman, Ron Wilson, and Pablo Marcos come together to put the Fantastic Four (and friends) against The Fixer, Mentallo, and Deathlok the Demolisher. We also get to experience a naked inauguration, and ask the all-important question: Who's crapper? Deathlok or Cyborg Superman?
