This Sunday, Pastor Bob led us through Romans 16 with the message, "He Knows My Name," showing how even an often-overlooked chapter reveals God's heart for His people. Pastor Bob reminded us that each person matters deeply to God, just as Paul honored 29 individuals who supported his ministry. He highlighted the vital role women played in the early Church, encouraging us to celebrate the diverse gifts within our community. Most importantly, we were reminded that, like Tertius the scribe, we are fully known and valued by our Creator—not by what the world says, but by the One who calls us by name.

Sermon The post He Knows My Name appeared first on Christian Center Church.
For the next few weeks. Our church is in a stewardship campaign. And it's not all about money. We are also talking about our stewardship of time, and how we use it to serve others, particularly those who really need help. Yesterday in our services here at the church, John Buckley, one of our members who is part of our Methodist Mens group spoke about our involvement and support of Parkview Mission. And I had the opportunity to record him for our online service that aired yesterday, and is still online btw. John is very committed to Parkview, and it was quite evident in his thoughts he shared. While I was editing, the song He Knows My Name came to me. It was, I believe, a reminder from God that regardless of who we are or where we are, He knows our names - he sees us when each tear falls. He knows because we are his children.

We are offered restoration for our souls (mind, will, emotions) in various places throughout the Bible. In this episode we take a detailed look at Jesus as Our Shepherd who tenderly attends to us (from Psalm 23 1:30"), Jesus as the Good Shepherd who voluntarily lays down His life for our restoration (from John 10 9:00"), The Lord will communicate with us in various ways order to renew us and give us peace (14:17"), As we consistently choose to follow Our Shepherd we are restored and our lives are transformed (15:58"), and Resources and Blessing (17:37). Here is a link to the worship song, "He Knows My Name" which corresponds to these insights from Scripture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXsiWoyjw60 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antoinette-t-cooper/message

Revelation 2:2-3 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary.” Jesus has commissioned the Apostle John to write seven different letters to seven different churches in Asia Minor. These churches needed to be encouraged as they were facing great persecution but they also needed to be rebuked. I believe by looking at the first words that Jesus said to each of the churches, we can find a great application for us today, both for our churches but also for each of us personally. Every letter to every church started out with the words, “I know your works….”. Seven times we hear Jesus saying, “I know”, “I know”, “I know”, “I know”, “I know”, “I know”, “I know”! This should capture our attention! Jesus knew what was going on in each of these churches. He said I know who you are. I know where you are. I know what you are doing. I know what is going on inside of you! We need to know that Jesus knows His church! He knows it better than anyone else. These church might very well represent seven stages of seven periods of church history but the specific message that we should take from these letters is the Jesus knows them each very well! We love to sing the song, “He Knows My Name” and that is true, but we also need to better understand that Jesus knows everything that is going on in my life. He knows every aspect of our life! He knows what going on behind the closed doors in the church and He know what is going on in the inner recesses of our hearts! Jesus not only knows our works that we are doing in His church, He know why we are doing them. He knows the motives behind the works. This should greatly encourage us but at the same time cause us to look deep into our hearts and remind ourselves that we can't hide anything from the eyes of the Lord. We should be encouraged and comforted by the fact that Jesus knows what we are dealing with in our lives right now. He knows if we have cancer before the doctor does. He knows if we have a blockage in our heart before the cardiologist does. He knows if we are about to get covid! Jesus knows what's happened in our family behind closed doors! He knows the very thoughts and intents of our hearts! He knows our secret sins! This should humble us and cause us to repent! But today we should be greatly encouraged that even still when He sees and knows all of our sins and failures, He loves us unconditionally and waits patiently for us to come to the Mercy seat and seek forgiveness! He still cares for us and is waiting to help us with every need we have in our lives! These letters also make it clear that Jesus is able to discern the true genuine followers of Christ from the outward professors who are in the church. Just because you are a member of a church does not automatically make you a member of God's forever family in Christ. And Jesus know this about us too! Today, if we will come to the Mercy Seat to find forgiveness we will not have to face our short comings and failures at the Judgment Seat later. Is the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart right now about something that Jesus knows about you and that you should ask for cleansing and forgiveness for? Remember, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) God bless!

Episode 11 Notes - Teach Us to Pray (Part 1)God values our prayers, more than we may think! Jesus’ disciples never asked him to teach them how to preach. But they did ask him, “Lord, teach us how to pray.”The Lord’s Prayer or The Disciples’ prayer is, in a sense, everybody’s chance to walk where Jesus walked - to put the feet of our souls where Jesus put the feet of his soul when he prayed. Each phrase of the prayer is intended as a focal point…or…a seed thought which can be expanded to a longer meditation/prayer around that point.Jesus is instructing us to address God as “Our Father.” This is profoundly important. These two words confer upon us a new identity… a new destiny and a new confidence. They tell us who we are and what we can expect from God.The Lord’s Prayer has been so familiar for so long that these words don’t startle us. But they would have in the time of Jesus! No individual and I mean nobody then, addressed God directly as their personal Father. To my knowledge, this invitation to address God as our Father in such an endearing way is utterly unique to the Christian faith.Author, Wesley Hill put it this way, “Any picture of God as “Father” that leads us to think in terms of domination and cruelty rather than of humble service and unending love is not a true understanding of the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ‘Who loved us and gave himself for us.’ ” So when Jesus invites us to pray, “Our Father…Our Daddy” he invites us into a similar loving relationship that he himself has had with the Father from all eternity past. We are invited to stand in a place beside Jesus before his Father…younger brothers and sisters before a common Father. We are being offered a stunning privilege. So, as you meditate and expand on this part of the prayer it could go something like this: • Hello, Dad. Thank you for making me a part of your forever family - I’m humbled and profoundly grateful. • Hello, Dad. Thanks that you are never too busy to give your full attention to me. That no need is too small, no circumstance too trivial that you do not care. • Hello, Dad. I want to be a good son and make you proud of me. My deep desire is to bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart. • Hello, Dad. I want to grow up to be like you…to reflect your goodness and your wisdom to all those who know me. • Hello, Dad. I surrender to your loving and wise leadership over my life. • Hello, Dad. I am confident that nothing, absolutely nothing can separate me from your love. • Hello, Dad. Thank you for the future you have in store for me. I know your dreams for my life . will one day become a reality. One big misconception about prayer: so often people think prayer is talking. For me the most important part of prayer is just being still and listening. I/you have a FatherHe calls me/you His ownHe'll never leave me/youNo matter where I/you goHe knows my/your nameHe knows my/your every thoughtHe sees each tear that fallsAnd He hears me/you when I/you call(He Knows My Name)

This week on the podcast, I’m chatting with Mia Fieldes, who I first discovered through another podcast. Whenever I become obsessed with someone’s story, I love to look them up, but Mia is a very private person. We start off talking about the pressure today to share everything while we’re in it. As my mentor says, we have to teach from our scars not our scabs. “You have to be okay with some things being hidden.” Mia is a Grammy-nominated songwriter who is from Australia and is living in Nashville with her husband. She has written songs for Hillsong, including No. 1 radio hits ‘He Knows My Name,’ ‘Chainbreaker,’ and ‘First.’ On this episode, we talk about pursuing God’s calling as well as staying connected to hope and keeping perspective in seasons of singleness. Pursuing God’s Calling “When I was really little, I really did think I was going to do something amazing.” She grew up as a triplet and remembers when her sisters would go to bed she would write letters to God saying, “One day I’m going to do something amazing for you. One day I’m going to write songs all over the world.” “Faith is incredibly hard and it’s incredibly easy.” Her mother was 22, single, and pregnant with triplets. She struggled with drug abuse, they lived in the projects, and they received food stamps from the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army noticed her mother had three little kids and so they brought them to Sunday school. There, Mia sang songs about Jesus and developed the foundation of her faith. “My mom was on the same journey as I was.” Staying Connected to Hope in Singleness “How do you believe God for something that is fully dependent on somebody else’s free will?” She spent a lot of time being single and didn’t even kiss a boy until she was 22. When she was beginning her first relationship, she realized that she was putting so much pressure on it because she had waited so long to enter her first relationship. “I felt a grace to be single.” You have to follow peace so that when you are in the storm your peace is your anchor. “Everyone told me marriage would be hard… and I thought ‘yeah but being single is hard.’” It’s all your perspective, but there is beauty in every season. “When you get to a certain age, people put limitations on you that God never does.” She notices that everyone seems to be fighting for a piece of the pie, but everyone gets their own whole pie. She got her own promise from God. Keeping Perspective We need to be optimistic. If we spend our energy complaining, we will get no closer to where we want to be. We will receive that negative energy back. “You create your world with your words.” Mia recalls the journey she went on with God guiding her toward a positive mindset and eventually her husband. “God plucked my husband seemingly out of nowhere.” “If you have to convince someone into something, then believe me someone will convince them out of it.” It’s easy to worry about the things you’ll have to compromise on, but when the right person comes along, you’ll realize there is no real compromise to be made. “It’s so important to go to God for yourself and get your own promise. Otherwise you will filter what God is doing with you through everyone else’s story.” “I don’t want the plagiarized version of somebody else’s story.” Mia says that her husband, Joren, has been healing for her. “God is writing a way bigger story than you can think about.” Top Three Things To Look For In Your Person Look for someone who is committed to change. A partner must also be able to handle conflict well. Communication! Mia doesn’t have a website, but she does have an Instagram! You can give her a follow at @miafieldes. How much emphasis do you give to what others think of you? "He Knows My Name" by Francesca Battistelli celebrates the names that God calls us. God knows us intimately, and because He is our Creator, He gets to name us. You are adored by God. Will you let Him search you, test you, and lead you? On this episode I discuss: Psalm 139 The Hebrew word for "examined" or "search" found in Psalm 139:1 The ravioli prayer How intimately God knows us David's prayer to God to search, test, point out anything offensive and lead "The Best Yes" by Lysa Terkheurst and her advice to "cut the but" Isaiah 41:10 Isaiah 54:17 Zephaniah 3:17 Psalm 119:105 The story of Gideon found in Judges 6 How God sees us and has already equipped us for what we need Additional Resources Lyrics and Story Behind the Song - New Release Tuesday Francesca's YouTube Video "Behind the Song" This Week's Challenge Psalm 139 is a great place to spend some time this week. You will begin to see how adored and how KNOWN you really are. If you choose to spend some time there, I challenge you to read this Psalm daily and in different translations so that you can let it really sink in. Perhaps, you're like me and characters of the Bible intrigue you. If that is the case, spend some time getting to know Gideon this week. His story begins in Judges 6, but to get perspective, you could start at the beginning of Judges! Whether you camp in Psalm 139, Judges or another reading plan you are currently on, PLEASE spend time in God's Word this week...you won't regret it!
