Doubt—it's that little voice that whispers to us in our trials. It says, "But what if God doesn't come through?" We've all heard it. But today, James warns us that doubt and the whispers of doubt can wreak storm-like havoc on our faith. And we will discover the right response to doubt is surprising, simple, steady, and strong. Welcome to the Daily Devo. [Don't forget at the end of the week, we will do a review of the entire chapter on the Vince Miller Show] If you are new here, we are excited to have you. Get your James Scripture Journal now. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. — James 1:5-12 In my life, trials have a way of turning my heart and mind toward a defensive mentality or a defeatist mentality. I am sure you are no different. When I encounter a trial, I either try to defend myself against the trial, using my own ingenuity to work my way around it or out of it. Or, if the trial goes on too long, I get this defeatist mentality where I want to give up. But this text says there is a far better answer to navigating our trials: It's to ask God [circle those words] for the wisdom we lack in our trials. I hate to say it, but this is the missing step that amplifies the drift of doubt. Too many believers live lives of secret self-exaltation. They spend too much time trying to work a way out of their trials or ruminating on the trials while they drift far into a sea of doubt. Instead, we should be humble, submissive, trust, and turn to God, who can provide wisdom for the trial. And if we do the latter, we are blessed and will receive the crown of life. When trials crash over you, resist the urge to paddle on your own ingenuity or sink into defeat. Instead, stop and ask God for wisdom—that's the step that anchors your faith and steadies you in the storm. Write it down, circle it, underline it: Ask God. Then trust that he will give it. Repeat it until it becomes a habit because your storm isn't the problem—it's how you face it. Your storm isn't the problem—it's how you face it. #FaithOverDoubt, #AskGod, #SteadfastUnderTrials Ask This: When faced with trials, do you rely on your own wisdom, or do you pause to ask God for guidance? How has doubt affected your faith during past challenges? What step can you take today to build the habit of asking God for wisdom? In what ways can you trust God more fully to provide wisdom during your current trial? Do This: Ask God. Right now! Pray This: Father, in my trials, help me to trust You completely and ask for the wisdom I need. Strengthen my faith so I can remain steadfast and receive the blessings You promise. Amen. Play This: Lord, I Need You.

It's George's second go-around on the songwriting carousel this week as - still live and in the same room! - JG and Andrew tackle I Need You. Is the song a step up from Don't Bother Me? Does the volume pedal (or waaaa-waaa WWAAAA WAAAAA bit if you prefer) work? And how often can the same points be made in a desperate attempt to pad out the running time? Episode 113- Join host Troy Saunders as he converses the guitarist, songwriter, singer, producer, mixer, engineer, entrepreneur and so much more David P. Stevens. The episode begins with a brief and light hearted conversation on David's early life in Philadelphia. He is the youngest of 4 children, who's parents both were educators and his father was the Pastor their church. David's father also had a funk band in which David's older siblings were members. He was too young to join, but this influenced David to start playing the guitar and sing. David explains his many moves in life from living in Nashville, Detroit, Philadelphia and eventually Los Angeles. Each move was to accomplish and new goal. Did you know that David's first album was a gospel album, released in 1999? It is no longer available for streaming. Troy and David discussed the reason for its unavailability and the possibility of re-releasing it.Through out the conversation Troy goes through David's vast catalog of music highlighting songs that touched him and or David. He started with David's first jazz release in 2005; the album "Timeless". They grooved to the title track. Another song featured was a beautiful song called "I Need You" which featured both David and Mitchell Jones of Commissioned. David tells how this collaboration came to be and how it was one of the highlights of his career so far. David's collaborations span the who's who's in music including Frank McComb, Maysa, Gerald Albright, Najee, Will Downing, LaToya Luckett, Carol Riddick (their collaboration "Love Is Still in Style" is also featured in this episode) Lin Rountree, Carl Cox, Steve Cole and sooo many more. David inspires to work with even more artist across all genres. Some the artists on his wish list include Ledisi, Deborah Cox, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor, Lalah Hathaway and more. Of course this episode would not have been complete without talking about David's latest album "Go". David once said that his album "Rouge" was his favorite release; but I think that "Go" has him changing his mind. The whole album is a masterpiece, so it was hard for Troy to pick which songs to highlight. He started with the jazzy remake of Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down" with Erin Stevenson on vocals. Evelyn is the blueprint; but David did a great job reinventing this R&B classic. Then Troy switched gears and played "Cozy"; a nod to the the great classic R&B slow jams from the 1980's. Another selection played was "Journey Home" which is bound to be a smooth jazz classic. For the next two songs Troy enlisted help from David; asking what were his favorites off of the album. David suggests "East Meets West" ( an old Norman Brown, one of David's influences, hit) and "Might As Well" ( A tune the starts off as a smooth jazz classic and by the end you are in the middle of a full gospel experience. They ended the episode with the latest single "Go" which features the man himself on vocals. This song is at home on any R&B station as well as on smooth jazz formats. David has a new video premiering on September 3 for this single. It will showcase David's acting, scoring and production skills. Look out for the premier on YouTube. This conversation covered so many topics. Too many to type here. Just tune in to hear more. Not only was the music incredible in this episode; but the conversation was filled with passion. These two men love what they do and it shows. Do you wonder why God isn't speaking, or you cannot hear his voice? Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller. This week, we are in 1 Samuel 14. I've titled this chapter "A Contrast Of Leadership Between Jonathan and Saul." We are in the latter part of Chapter 14, surveying Saul's leadership. We are still feeling the hangover that results from that stupid vow Saul instituted, but in the end, Saul builds an altar to the Lord, and then here is what happens next in verses 36-38: Then Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until the morning light; let us not leave a man of them.” And they said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” But the priest said, “Let us draw near to God here.” And Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you give them into the hand of Israel?” But he did not answer him that day. — 1 Samuel 14:36-37 Saul is pretty excited about this victory—I would be pretty high, too—because death was knocking at his door. But he wants to continue the campaign and finish them off, which probably would have been the case if they had the calories to do it. But before they go, in traditional fashion, he tries to consult God, but God doesn't answer, which bothers him. We have all been in this situation: We want to know what God wants us to do and even seek his counsel, but we don't seem to get the answer as fast as we want. And it's irritating because we are irritated with God's sovereignty. But there is more to this story. Verses 38-42 read: And Saul said, “Come here, all you leaders of the people, and know and see how this sin has arisen today. For as the Lord lives who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him. Then he said to all Israel, “You shall be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” And the people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.” Therefore Saul said, “O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O Lord, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped. Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was taken. — 1 Samuel 14:38-42 Saul does what any believer would do. He searches out the sin, preventing the voice of God, which is the right impulse. When God is silent, it is right to ask this question and deal with sin because sometimes sin prevents the voice of God or us from hearing the voice of God. The problem with Saul's search is that he will not like the answer. So the priest pulls out the Urim and Thummim, which are kept in his breastplate and rolls the divine dice. We are not exactly sure how this worked, but we do know this: it is the same process used for selecting Saul as King. But this time, the selection is not of a king but of a sinner. And the die falls to Jonathan. Tomorrow, we will see how this pans out. But for now, remember that every situation in this life is an opportunity to consult God. Sometimes, God's answers don't come in the timing we like or expect. The key is not to be irritated with God's sovereignty. We need to trust his sovereignty when he calls us to act and not act. And sometimes, when he doesn't answer, this is a good time to do business with our selfishness and sin. So do that today! #GodsTiming, #DivineSilence, #SaulAndJonathan Ask This: When you face moments of silence from God, what practical steps can you take to reflect on your own life and possible barriers to hearing His voice How can Saul's experience with unanswered prayers guide you in your own journey of seeking God's direction, especially when His responses are delayed or unclear? Do This: Seek his voice and search out your sin. Pray This: Lord, when Your voice seems silent, help me to trust in Your timing and seek my own heart for any barriers to hearing You. Guide me in dealing with my sin and selfishness, so I can remain faithful even in the quiet moments. Amen. Play This: Lord, I Need You.

Are you willing to swallow the hard truth? Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller. This week, we are reading 1 Samuel 3. I've titled this chapter "Into Our Silence God Speaks." Today, I am reading verses 15-18, it states: Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli. But Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.” And Eli said, “What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also if you hide anything from me of all that he told you.” So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to him.” — 1 Samuel 3:15-18 In the popular movie series The Matrix, the lead character, Neo, is given an option at the beginning of the film. He could take a red pill, enabling him to understand the truth outside the illusion of the Matrix. Or he could take a blue pill, allowing him to return to the illusion. Neo, of course, chooses the red pill, which opens his eyes to a discomforting truth. The life he had been living was nothing but an illusion. He was living a lie. This illustration fits here because Samuel and Eli have to swallow some troubling truths. But notice a few details about the two men. First, Samuel lay there all night, likely unable to sleep due to the troubling message about his mentor and feeling afraid to inform Eli about what God had said. Second, Eli calls Samuel as if he were a son, fully aware that God spoke to him but demanding to hear the truth about God's words. In a way, they both have a red pill to swallow. Samuel has to speak a hard truth. Eli has to accept a hard truth. I said this yesterday, but when God speaks, his truth is always a hard pill to swallow. God's truth declares that we are sinful, and then we have to accept the truth that we are sinful and need his salvation. Some people don't want to believe this truth. They prefer the blue pill. They buy into the illusion that they are good enough and that this life is all about pleasure and personal gratification. But ignoring the hard truth does us no good if we are going to be confronted by it at some point. If we are going to face judgment by God at the end of life, isn't it pointless to ignore the truth? Make today the day you make a change. Swallow the red pill, accept your sinfulness, and receive salvation and redemption before all you get is God's judgment. If this is you today and you are ready to make a change, pray this prayer along with me: God, I realize my life is ridden with sin. I accept this truth and need your salvation. I receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and his life, death, and resurrection as my means of redemption. I am ready to accept your truth and live by it all my days. In Jesus' name, Amen. If you prayed this today, reply and let me know. I would love to support you in some next steps. #EmbraceTheRedPill, #CourageousFaith, #FacingHardTruths Ask This: Reflecting on Samuel's hesitation to share God's message with Eli, consider a time when you've struggled to speak the truth in love. What steps can you take to cultivate courage and honesty in your relationships, even when it's difficult? In what areas of your life are you tempted to take the "blue pill" of denial rather than confronting uncomfortable truths? How can you actively choose the path of courageous faith, embracing God's truth, and pursuing transformation in those areas? Do This: Accept the truth from God, even when you don't like it. Pray This: Lord, grant me the courage to embrace the red pill of truth, confronting the uncomfortable realities in my life with faith and humility. May Your grace empower me to walk boldly in Your truth, trusting in Your redemption and transformation. Amen. Play This: Jesus, I Need You.

The Pals x Oliver Cronin Episode 268 Following the release of “Hello Goodbye” earlier this year, a sold out debut headline tour, and being nominated for Best New Artist at the 2024 Shure Rolling Stone Awards, Australian dark-pop artist Oliver Cronin keeps the momentum going with the anthemic new single “Burning House” via Warner Records / Warner Music Australia. Taken from his to-be-announced debut album, “Burning House” hears the Sydney based artist stepping into a pulsating synth soundscape that is reminiscent of artists like Justin Bieber. Layering the upbeat production with confident and romantic lyricism, Oliver Cronin sings about even if everything goes wrong that you'll be fine as long as you're with the person you care most about. "My producer Skimmy played me the beat for it the first day I got to LA, and I immediately knew I wanted to use it for the album. We got distracted making the rest of the album but every time we got in the car I'd get him to play that beat for me again. We got to the last couple days of the trip and we decided to give it a go, at that point in time I didn't have enough love songs on the record so we went into it with that in mind. The fun thing about the process of this song is there was absolutely no pressure because we had basically already written the whole album, so we could just fuck around and have fun and see what we came up with. I wrote it with Mason Dane, Dan Elkayan and Matt Hall and the song is about sticking by a loved one, your partner, your best friend, your ride or die really, through thick or thin. We knew it was something special as soon as we made it.” Says Oliver Cronin on the song. 2023 was a year full of highs for Oliver Cronin which saw multiple viral successes with his TikTok remixes and livestreams that have seen him amass over 670K followers on the app. Interpretations of songs like “Paint The Town Red” by Doja Cat, “Escapism” by RAYE, and “3:15 (Breathe)” by Russ have introduced him to a whole new audience, while his livestreams have seen him creating new music and candidly showing viewers his creative process. He shared a couple of singles including the hypnotic “Speed Bump,” the tropical-pop collaboration “I Need You” with Lil Xxel, and the summer anthem “1,2,3” with Topic which highlighted a well-crafted sound and an excitement to experiment. He also dropped the three-track EP after midnight (demos),which was a collection of unfinished demos he's written on live streams and ones fans were requesting. He featured on Connor Price's viral track “RUBY,” and Canadian rising star Lum's “Temptation.” On the touring front in 2023, Oliver Cronin joined Nessa Barrett on her sold-out Australian and New Zealand tour in December which saw him performing in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Auckland. He also performed at the inaugural SXSW Sydney. 2024 is shaping up to be a massive year for Oliver Cronin following the release of “Hello Goodbye” and “Burning House”, his debut sold headline tour, and he's currently overseas on a whirlwind promo trip in UK, Germany, America and Asia. Stay tuned for more exciting news soon. Follow him at @olivercronin & us @thepalspodcast / @yourpalrick @danigalarneau

Okay so…somehow this episode got really personal! Did I actually just reveal what I want my “Grandma” name to be, someday? Or, maybe it feels personal because this song, “Lord, I Need You”, that we'll come around today, is very dear to me! I'll talk about being a part of writing it around a table of dear friends, who have been more like brothers to me. But, I'll also give you some insight into being the only woman at that table, and in that community, for a very long time. It was both a privilege and a pruning ground that God used to grow me as a woman, songwriter and leader. I'll also begin a narrative that I'll carry throughout some of the other episodes this spring, about the very beginnings of God calling me to songwriting and worship leading. Rather than doors flying open and me, running with momentum, it was more a still—even sometimes silent and hidden—beginning. It was more that God had given me a deposit and a promise of something that was to come. But, of course, the way in which He'd have me carry that out, was to wait on Him to unfold the story in the way that only He could! I'll talk to you soon! The End of Evangelion[a] is a 1997 Japanese anime apocalyptic science fiction film written by Hideaki Anno, directed by Anno and Kazuya Tsurumaki, and animated by Gainax and Production I.G. It serves as an ending to the television series Neon Genesis Evangelion, which aired from 1995 to 1996 and whose final two episodes were controversial for their atypically abstract direction. The story follows the teenagers Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu, who pilot mechas called Evangelion to defeat enemies who threaten humanity named Angels. Shinji is subjected to the Human Instrumentality Project, a process in which human souls are merged into a single divine entity. The film features the voice actors of the original series, including Megumi Ogata as Shinji, Yuko Miyamura as Asuka, and Megumi Hayashibara as Rei. Shortly before The End of Evangelion's release, Anno and Gainax released another film, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth, which summarizes the first twenty-four episodes of the series. Like Death & Rebirth, the creators conceived The End of Evangelion as a duology comprising "Episode 25: Love Is Destructive" and "Episode 26: I Need You", remakes of the last two episodes of the original television series. In 1998, the overlapping films were edited together and reissued as Revival of Evangelion. The End of Evangelion was a box-office success, grossing ¥2.47 billion. It was honoured at the Awards of the Japanese Academy, the Animation Kobe, and the 15th Golden Gloss Award. The movie also won the 1997 Animage Anime Grand Prix, and received critical acclaim for its animation, direction, editing, emotional power, and screenplay, though some reviewers criticized its oblique religious symbolism and abstraction. Since its release, the film has frequently been cited as one of the greatest animated films of all time.[2]

Still, the truth that most figs pretty much consume wasps in order to become figs is undeniably A PROBLEM that we must reckon with as a species if we are going to continue to live on this planet. This episode was recorded Friday, March 15, 2023 in the Rat's Nest.—One more important thing (or two)! Are you an academic in art, design, or a closely related field? In this episode I will talk about the powerful concept of Process over Outcome where I will challange the traditional mindset of 'Winning is everything" (accomplishment/outcome) and explore the path for growth, improvement, resiliance (becoming/process). In this episode I will share one strategy to get grounded on the process-focused mindset starting with awareness and acklowledgment: understanding what our athletes can control and what they cannot, is a powerful way to decide where to put their focus, attention and energy. This is the first step to empower our kids to thrive both in and off the field. Join Stasi in a heartfelt conversation with singer-songwriter Christy Nockels. Christy shares her journey to discover God's role in her creativity while realizing that our gifts can sometimes hinder our true desires. It was when she found God in the ordinary moments that she realized that the only thing God wanted from her was that she be his and find her identity in that. Christy has made worship her way of life, and as she has surrendered to God, she has uncovered his tender path to his heart.…..SHOW NOTES:…..VERSES: Psalm 37:5 (NLT) — Commit everything you do to the Lord. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV) — For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Christy began writing music and singing in the church at a young age, as the daughter of a pastor in Oklahoma. She met musician, Nathan Nockels, in 1993 at the Christian Artist Seminar in Estes Park, Colorado and the two married in 1995.The couple would form the Christian music duo, Watermark, touring nationwide and recording five acclaimed albums, including seven number one radio singles from 1998 to 2005, before laying down their Watermark journey for the sake of their family. Christy and Nathan were also among those invited by Louie and Shelley Giglio to be a part of the very first Passion Conference in Austin, TX, in 1997, which flourished into a fruitful twenty years of the couple songwriting and leading for the PassionMovement. Christy's voice and heart can be heard on songs like, “Waiting Here For You,” as well as her songwriting featured on church anthems like, “Lord, I Need You,” and “Healing is in Your Hands.”Christy now records for Keeper's Branch Records, the couple's independent record label, where they've enjoyed releasing fan-favorites like Be Held; Lullabies for the Beloved. Christy also launched a podcast in 2016 called, “The Glorious in the Mundane,” which is intentionally focused on helping women in any season of life, find the wonder and awe of God in the moments of the here and now.Christy and Nathan live in Franklin, TN where they love to gather around the farm table and even make music with their three children, Noah, Elliana and Annie Rose. They also love to spend time making their home, affectionally called Keeper's Branch, a place of rest for all who gather there.Book: The Life You Long For: Learning to Live from a Heart of Rest https://wahe.art/4aVBEjLAlbums Mentioned:Be Held : Lullabies For The Beloved InstrumentalThis is the HourSongs Mentioned:Waiting Here For YouLord I Need YouBeholdAs For Me (Psalm 2)Be Thou My Vision: Used with permission by Christy Nockels at the end of this podcast…..Don't Miss Out on the Next Episode – Subscribe for FreeSubscribe using your favorite podcast app:Spotify Podcasts – https://spoti.fi/42SsOipApple Podcasts – https://apple.co/42E0oZ1 Google Podcasts – http://wahe.art/3M81kxLAmazon Music & Audible – https://amzn.to/3M9u6hJ

George Harrison's journey as a songwriter began later than his other bandmates. After delivering his first self-penned track for the band's 2nd album, he had to rely on a Lennon/McCartney song for the 3rd, and a Carl Perkins cover on the 4th. But by the time of the Help! album, he had 2 on the table, and found his abilities starting to really grow. With "I Need You," he drops the dour, bitter persona he is sometimes known for to deliver an open, honest, vulnerable track that's economical in length, has some gorgeous key changes, and features the band starting to stretch in terms of trying new sounds in the studio. George plays rhythm guitar on a nylon string acoustic, Ringo plays percussion on the back of a guitar, John (?!?!) delivers the back beat on the snare drum, while Paul delivers a really interesting bass part that eschews the normal root note bass mentality. The band aren't afraid to venture into new territory, and George seems unafraid to show his actual vulnerability and own real life turmoil, which all coalesces into a track that's better than people remember. This week, we're thrilled to welcome back the Queen of Beatles media, Kit O'Toole! Fresh from speaking on a whopping 7 panels at the Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans, we chat with Kit about her upcoming course on the British Invasion at Monmouth University (sign up here), the legacy of the Help! film and album, George's growth as a writer, memories of cds and cassettes, and so much more! Follow Kit on Facebook for more fun! What do you think about "I Need You" at 110? Too high? Too low? Or just right? Let us know in the comments on Facebook, on Twitter, or on Instagram! After 27 years as a contributor on ‘The Daily Show,' Lewis Black is finally getting the chance to host. While the comedian candidly admits that it took Comedy Central long enough to give him a call, he is set to take the reins as guest host for the week of June 20th. In his return to the podcast, Black drops his angry persona and reflects on his comedic legacy. He also talks about why he called his latest stand-up special ‘Tragically, I Need You'—available to stream today on YouTube—and weighs in on misplaced conservative outrage over Bud Light and Fox News' decision to fire “asshole” Tucker Carlson.
