Punk rock mainstays Unwritten Law should have been given Australian citizenship by now.Since first hitting our shores in 1996 the band have only toured the US more times, solidifying the love affair that has one so far as to Unwritten Law having one of their members live in this country full time.Best known and loved as part of the Warped Tour Festivals, Unwritten Law have struck the perfect blending of punk and hardcore, almost making the form of music an art form. And so it is Unwritten Law are returning to Australia once more, playing at Hotter Than Hell Festival dates as well as a select number of headlining gigs. Is Australia ready? We should be, but if there's one thing Unwritten Law have instilled in us over the years, it is to never expect anything from them. The band's resident Aussie, guitarist Scotty McLaughlin joined HEAVY to talk more."This is the shortest tour we've done in ten years," he laughed. "Usually we do a month here, but this is the quickest little thing we've done in a long time."We mention the Hotter Than Hell line up and the fact it almost has a Warped Tour kind of vibe about it."It does," he nodded. "I was looking up old tour posters from the 90s, and it's the same bands for the most part (laughs). It does have that old feel to it."In the full interview Scotty talks more about Hotter Than Hell, playing with other bands like Regurgitator, Less Than Jake, Jebediah, and The Bennies, playing their Black album in full and problems that come with doing something like that, their own headlining shows and how they will be different to the festival shows, what to expect from Unwritten Law live and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersLess Than Jake have played a massive role in the continued success of ska-infused punk since first bursting onto the scene in 1992.While their first two albums Pezcore and Losing Streak laid the platform for Less Than Jake, it was their 1998 album Hello Rockview that solidified their growing stature and propelled them from a band with great potential to a great band and fuck the potential. Featuring the huge tracks All My Best Friends Are Metalheads - which is closing in on 60 million spins - and History Of A Boring Town, Hello Rockview is the soundtrack to many a late Gen X or young Millennial youth.Known and loved the world over for their scintillating live performances, Australian audiences are about to receive their first visit from Less Than Jake in seven years when the band celebrates that milestone album this October and November with the Hello Rockview Tour Down Under. Not only will the ska legends be playing Hello Rockview in full, they will also be dragging The Bennies and Young Offenders around the countryside in a triple bill of excitement that should make up for lost time.HEAVY sat down with Less Than Jake vocalist/guitarist Chris Demakes to find out more, starting with why the band have neglected us out here for so long."Oh, geez," he smiled. "So, seven years by my account… was it 2016? Was that the last time we were there? I think it might have been 2017… shortly thereafter - because for a while there we were trying to get down to Australia every two to three years - four years tops - we'd try and get back down there for at least a festival or our own tour or something. Then of course we lost about two years with the pandemic, and now here we are. It took bands a minute - not to make excuses - but it took them out of the pandemic a second to start travelling overseas. We're glad to be back, and we hope it's not anywhere near as long next time."In the full interview, Chris talks about the tour and what to expect, playing Hello Rockview in full, difficulties they encountered translating the full album to stage, revisiting some of the older songs and the memories it brought back, why people connected with that album, the Hotter Than Hell shows as part of the tour, how much practice goes into Less Than Jake's live shows, compensating for an ageing body on tour, their latest single Broken Words, if it is part of a new album cycle and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

This week Tom & Zeus review the 1975 KISS Dressed To Kill Tour. This is SIOL's 8th KISS tour reviewed. This was KISS' 4th tour and followed the Hotter Than Hell tour. It began as the Dressed To Kill album was released on March 19, 1975. The tour in support of KISS' third album featured new KISS classics, like C'mon And Love Me, She and of course, Rock And Roll All Nite. The band had still not broken through commercially, but was starting to take off live with its raw energy. KISS began as openers and eventually moved to headliners with opening acts like Rush. The stage was still in its infancy compared to what was to come in a few years. The costumes began similar to Hotter Than Hell and then morphed into what we see on the Alive tour and album cover. The setlist consisted of what would eventually become the ultimate classic live album, KISS Alive! As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. They then rank the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour against the previous 7 tours reviewed so far. So take a stroll down back to a time when KISS was hungry to take over and then stay for the rant at the end of the episode... 50 years ago, the music world got its' first KISS, in the form a debut album by four young men who not only played hard and heavy rock, but had the audacity to wear makeup, over the top costumes, and platform shoes that made them seem bigger than life.1974's self titled debut album by Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter fired the first shot of KISS's kinetic sound and it was a mission statement that their unique brand of hook-filled glitter rock was not to be denied.  And just in case that wasn't enough for ya, later that year, they issued a second album, Hotter Than Hell.  Two albums by a new group in one year -- these guys were serious.I talked with Bakko (Cobras And Fire podcast) about the debut album and with Jeff Hogland about Hotter Than Hell, and we had a fun time talking about our favorite songs, trivia, and how these albums effected us in the days of our impressionable youth.  Both of these guys brought their own unique perspectives on the records and how these records helped to shape our appreciation of music.Check out Bakko on the Cobras And Fire podcast: https://cobrasandfire.com/

There is a place that will logically, scientifically, and Biblically be hotter. That place is HEAVEN!! How can Heaven be hotter than Hell, and what is the true nature of the torment that those in Hell will experience? We'll talk about it on this week's episode.

This week Tom & Zeus review the 1974 KISS album, "Hotter Than Hell.” This was KISS' 2nd studio album and the 19th KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Produced by the same two producers of the debut album a few months earlier, Kenny Kerner & Richie Wise, Hotter Than Hell was the first album that KISS did not have all the songs ready to go. Some of the songs were left overs from the previous album and also Wicked Lester, but some were created for this specific album. The album features a still hungry bad with contributions from all members. Of the ten songs, only three were sung by Paul Stanley. Ace Frehley had three writing credits, Peter Criss sang two songs and Gene Simmons sang 5 songs! The album was darker and heavier than the debut album and is noted for its tough sounding production. Many of the songs became KISS concert staples, such as Parasite, Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll, Hotter Than Hell and more. A couple of KISS' best deep cuts are also on the album. The album cover by John Van Hamersveld features a Japanese theme and photos from the legendary photo shoot by Norman Seeff. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed.
