Robert FleischmanHe briefly sang for Journey and co-wrote two of the band's best-known songs. His other credits include his piercing vocals on the cult-classic, glam-metal debut album from the Vinnie Vincent Invasion plus brushes with Asia, Michael Schenker, Genesis and Gene Simmons. Vocalist Robert Fleischman joins us to discuss his storied past, his latest album, “Emotional Atlas,” that time he got an encouraging two thumbs up from Beatles producer George Martin and an unforgettable outburst from a “pissy” Vinnie Vincent. This week we take a look at the studio catalog of 90's band Slaughter. Formed in 1988 by ex Vinnie Vincent Invasion members Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum, the duo recruited guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias before getting to work on their 1990 debut album 'Stick it to Ya.' Riding high on the success of singles such as 'Up All Night' and 'Fly to the Angels,' the album sold well and secured the band a slot on KISS' 'Hot in the Shade' tour. 1992's followup album 'The Wild Life' would show solid sales but telltale signs of a tide shift in the music business. Without major label backing, Slaughter would go on to release 3 albums for independent label CMC Records; 1995's 'Fear No Evil,' 1997's 'Revoluion,' and 1999's 'Back to Reality.' Mark Slaughter would go on to record two solo albums; 2015's 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror' and 2017's 'Halfway There' but Slaughter remains out of the studio. Will that change? Only time will tell. This week we pick our "best" and "worst" song from each Slaughter studio album. Joining us this time is Marc Alden Taylor of the Free Form Rock podcast. Car Con Carne is presented by Alex Ross Art. Support Alex's YouTube page at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTPXeCUinfh6RDdmcn1co9g Robert Fleischman's career has been fascinating. Most famously, he was brought in to be Journey's lead singer as work started on the “Infinity” album. He was only in the band for five months, before he was replaced by Steve Perry, but he left an indelible mark on the band, co-writing songs like ‘Wheel in the Sky” and “Anytime.” Robert also was the frontman for the Vinnie Vincent Invasion in the 80s, after Vincent left KISS. And in the early days, Robert was in talks to join bands like (no kidding) ASIA and Genesis. These days, Robert is an accomplished artist with regular gallery shows. He's also readying his first music release in a long time: “Emotional Atlas.” We cover it all in this episode, fueled by the amazing food of Bistro Monadnock (325 S. Federal). Their menu is fantastic, and the restaurant's vibe is perfect for after work food and drink, date night or dining out with a group of friends. Robert and I both went with the Bistro Burger (brioche, steak, butter, dijonnaise, red onion relish, gruyere, vargo bros pickle). It was absolutely perfect.

Slaughter comes to Smugglers Run in Wyandotte, Michigan this coming Saturday, but first, Mark Slaughter talked to me. It's been a while since Mark's been on Talkin' Rock, so it was great to get him on to talk about everything they have going on. He told me about the band, along with Dana Strum and Jeff "Blando" they're bringing drummer, Jordon Cannata. He's the young gun in he band as Mark explained. "What a great player! Young kid, he was born....on the day that our first record was put out." He talked about the many times Slaughter has played the Detroit area, including his first time through the Motor City with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. "We did two nights with Alice Cooper, this is in 1986, where we opened up and played Hell Night and Halloween, opening for Alice Cooper." Those shows were at the legendary Cobo Hall. He mentioned some possible new music coming down the pike. "It doesn't take us long to write the songs, it's just about getting us in the same room." We talked about drummer Blas Elias "Blas is and always will be a big part of the band." We talked about a possible upcoming bio-pic and what he's discovered that will be a part of that. He talks about his life in Tennessee and why he's there. He told a crazy story about a trip to Lima, Peru earlier this year. That story is nuts! Oh, and bodyguards ripping seats out of rental cars...yeah, you read that right. See you guys at the show this Saturday! -Meltdown https://www.slaughterusa.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

The Rock and Metal Profs: The History and Philosophy of Rock and Metal
Former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent burst onto the rock scene in 1983 when he was announced as Ace Frehley's replacement. With lightning-fast fret work coupled with a gift for songwriting, he wrote and performed some of KISS's most memorable songs of the early 1980s. Sadly, his tenure in KISS was short-lived -- he was kicked out of the band after just 2 years. His solo career was similarly erratic. After just two albums, The Vinnie Vincent Invasion imploded when vocalist Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum left the band to create "Slaughter", the massively successful hair metal act of the late-80s. Then, Vinnie Vincent vanished...for nearly 25 years! Vincent's compelling story is shrouded in mystique and tragedy. This episode was requested by listener Scott Carnegie!
