@mihai-popoviciu-1, from #Sibiu in #Romania, is considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today. He was born in Romania in 1981 and was drawn to the fast-growing rave scene of the 90’s. He started producing music in 2001 being influenced by the techno and house virus and it took many years of experiments untill he came up with his first vinyl release on @gigolorecords by @djhellofficial in 2005. Since then he has steadily added chapters to his personal success story with solo projects and those with partners like @markushomm or @jaybliss. In June 2007, his EP "First Contact" was released on @levelnonzero by @pascalfeos. Mihai joined the @highgrade-records family together with Markus Homm in late 2007 and from then on the duo have had several successful releases on the Berlin based imprint like “Deaf Sniper”, “Lagoon” or “Urban Ballroom”. In 2009 the discographic activity of Mihai got very intense with releases on highly respected european labels such as Fear Of Flying, @huddtraxx, Bang Bang or @diynamic-music. The club hit Bis Co (produced together with Markus and Jay Bliss) was featured in all major dance charts across Europe and confirmed once again his fine producing skills. When teaming up with Jay Bliss the duo call themselves Hermannstadt Collective, a dj and producing team that has made big waves on the dancefloors all over the world with tracks like “Raw Fruit”, “Thirst Day” or “Safety Match”. Mr. Popoviciu is the kind of producer that likes to innovate and to allways refine his varied sound pallette surprising the audiance in the best way. About Vlad Bretan Artist biography: Constantly growing in the local scene, Vlad Bretan is a name you might be familiar with. Starting as a hip hop producer, moving towards Chicago House and finally ending into Romanian sound sphere, he gained recognition in 2017 when Seth Troxler played his edit of Kylie Minogue's 'Slow'. In 2018 he released his first EP at Basel based label 'Studio 405' releasing now a classic jam 'Intr-o Zi' played by many Romanian artists. That year he also won his first prize 'The up and coming artist of 2018' at the Sibiu DJ Awards. He became involved with music just before the turn of the Millennium. Romania, at this time, was still in post-communist transformation and an underground music scene was just beginning to bubble. Growing up in Sibiu, Transylvania, Iulian organised underground mobile raves for over two years. It didn’t take long for him to learn to DJ and earn himself a residency at Chill Out, a 300- capacity venue that quickly developed a cult status across Romania. He continued playing there all night long each Wednesday until 2008, becoming a well-known and widely respected selector on home soil. He’d also warm up for guests on the weekend provided he wasn’t booked elsewhere. It was a formative part of his career. During this time, Iulian also started Electrique Boutique with Markus Homm. Opening in 2004, it became one of the country’s first ever record stores — though it struggled because the scene was very much in its infancy. There were not many DJs in Romania and only a few of them were into buying records. It closed down in 2007. Yet it proved to be a valuable experience. Using this musical knowledge and the connections he developed, Iulian continued DJing and won various awards along the way. He began travelling outside of Romania around 2006, and he continues to play through Europe and the Americas today, showcasing a sound that sits somewhere between house and techno, with strong Detroit roots. He is signed to the Sunrise Booking agency. Iulian began experimenting with production in the late ‘90s while studying computer science. By 2005 he had started to take music production “seriously,” and his first release landed in 2008 as Hermannstadt Collective — a collaboration with Mihai Popoviciu and ToyGUN. His debut solo EP landed soon thereafter on Smoke City Music, presenting Iulian’s deep and organic sound. Further releases have since arrived thick and fast, including a 2012 EP featuring a Petre Inspirescu remix and a 2017 LP titled ‘Vrăjitorul din Orz.’ The six-tracker was the result of a “production spree” inspired by a two-year spell during which Cazan sought fresh inspiration. “I just felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again,” he explains. His 2016 ‘Paloșul’ EP as Iovan Iorgovan was written around the same period. Elsewhere, Iulian runs the Stomping Grounds label and the Vade Mecum sub-label. The former is focused on “timeless music,” hence it sees around only one release per year. Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of the Sleepwalkers Global Podcast. This week we are honoured to have another great artist on the show, who influenced the Techno scene since a long time already: Mihai Popoviciu! Mihai Popoviciu, from Sibiu in Romania, is considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today. He was born in Romania in 1981 and was drawn to the fast-growing rave scene of the 90's. He started producing music in 2001 being influenced by the techno and house virus and it took many years of experiments untill he came up with his first vinyl release on DJ Hell's imprint Gigolo Records in 2005. Since then he has steadily added chapters to his personal success story with solo projects and those with partners like Markus Homm or Jay Bliss. In June 2007, his EP “First Contact” was released on Pascal Feos' label Level Non Zero Recordings. Mihai joined the Highgrade family together with Markus Homm in late 2007 and from then on the duo have had several suc- cessful releases on the Berlin based imprint like “Deaf Sniper”, “Lagoon” or “Urban Ballroom”. In 2009 the discographic activity of Mihai got very intense with releases on highly respected european labels such as Fear Of Flying, Hudd Traxx, Bang Bang or Diynamic. The club hit Bis Co (produced together with Markus and Jay Bliss) was featured in all major dance charts across Europe and confirmed once again his fine producing skills. When teaming up with Jay Bliss the duo call themselves Hermannstadt Collective, a dj and producing team that has made big waves on the dancefloors all over the world with tracks like “Raw Fruit”, “Thirst Day” or “Safety Match”. Mr. Popoviciu is the kind of producer that likes to innovate and to allways refine his varied sound pallette surprising the audience in the best way. It's not a big surprise that Mihai's reputation as a DJ grew fast in the past years taking him to Europe's most important clubs and venues. His flavourous dj sets have a distinctive peronal touch delivering you a perfectly balanced mixture of groovy beats, warm pads and musical emotiones that will get you addicted.
