Dr. Stephen Hargarten is a Professor of Emergency Medicine, Associate Dean for Global Health, Director of the Global Health Pathway, and Director of the Comprehensive Injury Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His research interests reflect an intersection of injury and violence prevention and health policy to address the burden of this biosocial disease. He was the founding President of the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research and has served on the Violence and Injury Prevention Mentoring Committee for the World Health Organization. In his conversation with Amelia and Kirk, he makes a compelling argument for considering firearm injury as a disease and a public health crisis. They discuss state and federal policies that can and do affect this primarily political disease. Dr. Hargarten also explains the use of a biopsychosocial model for healing from firearm injury and calls for medical educators to include firearm injury mechanisms, prevention and treatment in curricula. Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave's brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father's passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart,and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. That experience sealed his fate. Tyler Stone's Exclusive TDJS Mix presented by The DJ Sessions 8/17/22 About Tyler Stone -   Tyler Stone is a producer/remixer, DJ and vocalist who has built her career as one of the first female house music producers, and has achieved several top ten Billboard Dance hits with her distinctive style rooted in deep house, disco, and downtempo.  After receiving a degree in Jazz from Cornish College of the Arts, Tyler relocated to San Francisco to join the legendary Third Floor Productions where she cut her teeth under the tutelage of the masterful DJ EFX, and began showcasing her talents with some of Dance and Pop music's finest artists.  This lead to a string of releases and remixes under the name “Ms T” on numerous dance labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Eightball, and Henry Street, with name acts including Armand Van Helden, Robin S, Crystal Waters and Kimara Lovelace as well as N'SYNC.  As an integral part of the 90's San Francisco dance music scene, Tyler went on to open her own studio, Ms T Productions, and became the “go to” engineer within the house music community, working alongside such producers as Miguel Migs and Grammy nominated Jay-J and Chris Lum. Without skipping a beat, Tyler continues to push the envelope as a producer, lending her sophisticated programming to remixes and collaborations on reputable labels including Nervous and Aventura.  Her tracks continue to chart, and receive regular features and playlist adds.  Channeling the disco, funk and soul of her youth, and the house music of the early 90's, Tyler's tracks have a magic that draws you into the essence of the song.  “As a vocalist myself, I tend to pay special attention to how the vocals interact both rhythmically and melodically with the rest of the track.”  But make no mistake, at the core of every track is the beat, ready to groove your body at any BPM.
