You know what it is. Gone for a minute, but we back up in it…for now. Join us for our latest podcast episode, where your favs hater Xtian Aki and your friendly co-host Jay Light take you on an exciting journey through a variety of topics. We'll explore spiritual beliefs and ponder the whims of the universe—or God, for some—as we navigate through life's twists and turns. Ever wondered if a higher power might need a day off now and then? We discuss that and more, including the wonders of nature and some amusing mix-ups and revelations. But that's not all! We'll also delve into societal issues and high school memories, stirring up nostalgia along the way. From age disparities in relationships to the shift from in-person to digital interactions among today's youth, we'll cover a range of topics. And who knew a conversation about macaroni and cheese could lead to a lively discussion about foot health? As we wind down, we'll share candid stories about family pranks and reflections on mental health, as well as debate the merits of different high school scheduling structures. From profound mysteries to mundane yet fascinating details of life, we've got it all covered. So grab your headphones, your smoke, and join us for a mix of entertainment, straight silliness, and enlightenment! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/apartment420/message
Eric Wielo is an LA-based comedian and writer who wrote and appeared on Conan on TBS, and you can currently see on Up & Adam's on Max, as well as performing regularly at The Milwaukee Improv, as well as headlining and featuring over the country! In this episode, we continue the discussion Jay Light helped to start about spot pay for features and emcees in clubs around America, some of the bad habits that have gone on in the industry even post #MeToo, and our strange story of how we became friends when he helped reopen The World-Famous Hollywood Improv by hosting mics on their patio with names who I promise you will know, as well as the headliners doing their first sets in a year and a half. I get into my brief story of getting to follow Orny Adams on that patio which if you know anything about this business, I don't know if that'll ever happen again. We also discuss some of the events and politics of today, and so much more! Jay Light is a comedian and television writer originally hailing from the fine city of Dallas. He has written for a long list of TV shows. You can see Jay perform all over the country, including regularly at The World-Famous Hollywood Improv. He also hosts WRONG! A Dark Comedy Game Show which you can see in a city near you! A lot was discussed in this episode. Normally when I go into producing these, I have a vague idea of where it could go. This conversation pivoted quickly into a passionate discussion was Jay Light's argument to as why both comedians and industry would benefit from having a stand-up comedy union (a conversation I did not expect to have but boy am I glad we did!). We discuss how wages for features and headliners have remained the same literally since 1979 not adjusting for inflation one bit, how normalized it is for producers in LA to not pay comedians for ticketed shows with item minimums, the power of collective bargaining, the disappearing stand-up comedy middle class, a fairly recent and successful strike to get wages increased for club performers and emcees in New York City, and a lot more on the matter. I record these episodes on average a month before they are released, and let me tell you, they have shapped every discussion I've had with comedians going forward. Believe it or not, many of my peers have felt similar frustrations. That being said, Jay Light is smart, opinionated, fearless, and frankly, one of the most punk rock people I know in comedy. He is also an artist by every definition of the term and I've enjoyed watching him develop from when we first met. (which incidentally, I met him when he hosted a Potluck when he was a door guy at The World-Famous Comedy Store once-upon-a-time ago and we talk about that too!) We also talk about the power of taking risks industry are reluctant to take on creatives, the importance of giving back, the power of community, what community did for the Roast Battle, really why comics should always be writing and how so many have no idea how to write jokes yet, the difference between art and commerce in the social media era, and so much more! Roll up, Light up, and Tune into another episode of the Apartment 420 Podcast with your host Xtian Aki and Jay Light. Also known as Well Beyond Prepare yourself for an exhilarating journey into the realm of entertainment, crime, and existential questions. We promise you a whirlwind of laughter, introspection, and enlightenment in this episode of the Apartment 420 Comedy Podcast. We dissect the volatile world of showbiz, throwing the spotlight on the towering highs and the crushing lows, from child prodigies like Britney Spears and Chris Daniela to the enduring fame of stalwarts like Tom Hanks. You'll discover that age and time don't necessarily chart the trajectory of a star's career. We then plunge into the depths of the criminal justice system, analyzing its effectiveness through the lens of intriguing figures like Samuel Little, America's most prolific serial killer, and Doris Payne, the world-renowned jewel thief. Relive the fear and chaos of the Y2K scare and contemplate its profound influence on our lives. Prepare to have your belief systems challenged as we probe the eternal conflict of faith versus science, explore the origins of water, and question the existence of life beyond our planet. We wrap up with an introspective look at the evolution of the entertainment industry, particularly its impact on the value of artists and performers. From the adrenaline-pumped world of gladiators to the passion-fueled sphere of dance, we question how performers and artists negotiate their worth in an industry that often reduces them to commodities. We also peek into the world of dance education and the struggles faced by performers in paving a path for themselves. Make sure you don't miss out on this revelatory journey through the labyrinth of life, one laugh at a time. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/apartment420/message

It's Just One of Those Pods On the latest edition of Pod Yourself A Gun, comedian, Good Guy with a Gun, and host of the Blockbusting podcast, Jay Light joins Matt & Vince to talk about The Sopranos season five episode eleven, “Cold Cuts.” As Matt points out, despite AJ's absence from it, this is a real AJ of an episode of The Sopranos. It's like everyone in the episode feels like it's just one of those days where you don't want to wake up, everything's f*cked, and everybody sucks. Sort of the Nu Metal episode. Which makes sense as the gang agrees it's one of the worst episodes of the series (Low B+). Matt addresses some of the complaints from the mailbag episode about the autotune, and this week's Bada-B stories are pure Lieb vocals. Let that be a lesson to all of you - if you pay us enough money, we will do what you ask, but you gotta give us that scharole. There's also an argument in there about whether or not Christopher really thinks he could be a male model.
