Everything is alright! In the latest episode of Columbia House Party, hosts Jake Goldsbie and Blake Murphy dive into Motion City Soundtrack's 2005 album Commit This to Memory. Not only did Commit This to Memory lock in a definitive, unmistakable sound that cut through the saturation of the genre for Motion City Soundtrack, it was also the first foray into production for blink-182's Mark Hoppus. While the hosts agree this album isn't necessarily Motion City's strongest, it is certainly the most interesting and most important. Find out more about Justin Pierre's personal battles throughout the writing process, Blake's personal battles with losing a labret piercing at Warped Tour, and which MCS album the hosts think tops the discography on this week's podcast. This week on the podcast we are joined by the Bayers' longtime friend, solo artist and the frontman of the band Motion City Soundtrack, Justin Courtney Pierre, to reminisce about CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE books. We discuss why this book series was the most interactive entertainment a kid could find in the 1980s and how it encouraged creativity in a way we didn't fully comprehend at the time. Along the way we dig into formative childhood memories, why Jonah rebelled against pencil grips to write in a way that has never once interfered with his life and Vanessa's guess-and-check chemistry class controversy that has led her on a decades-long campaign against a certain high-school teacher's reasoning. We dig deep into the new Dunkin Donuts' inferior new rewards program on a segment called CONGRATULATIONS, YOU PLAYED YOURSELF and explore how corporate profits and diluted coffee go down even smoother than a Peanut Butter Cup latte. We also talk CEO culture, frequent flyer point strategies and the slippery slope of stoichiometry. If you're looking for a podcast where the coefficient equals tons of laughs plus psychological insights, you've come to the right place. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
If you've come to this episode expecting a conversation hung around Justin Pierre's new, forthcoming solo EP Ghost World – his third so far this year, and out November 12th – then chances are you might be disappointed. Talking about that stuff with Justin was very much my intention, and yet a conversation between me and the sometime Motion City Soundtrack singer about topics much meatier, somehow, seamlessly transpired. I have to shoulder the blame for that – with his old band MCS, Justin's 2010 album My Dinosaur Life was a record that defines a significant quota of my life. This was my OCD album before I really knew that the thing that was wrong with me was OCD, certainly before I'd accepted it, and so a lot of what follows concerns mental health, spirituality, and personal growth; stuff that I've wanted to talk to him about for years and years. Because of this, we simply ran out of time for the music, though I'm sure we'll reconvene for a part two at some point down the line. Plenty of meat on the bone here, though! The James McMahon Music Podcast is a Spoook Media production. Spoook is also a record label, a promoter, a shop, a Substack - it's many things. Welcome back to the podcast that holds the record for playing the most shows without getting paid: Sinclairity A Dinosaurs Tale! This week, your charismatic hosts Ben Handupme and We're Gonna Need Another Timmy discuss the season 3 episode of Dinosaurs titled "Swamp Music." Basically some white guys wrote a parable for cultural appropriation in rock music and they did a sloppy job about it. However, we do a slightly less sloppy job about reviewing said episode, so maybe you'll get something out of this messed up world we live in after all. Besides, maybe you'll enjoy the following talking points: the difference between Underoath and From First to Last, the late Norm MacDonald, satanic metal bands that won't commit ritual suicide, Ysa disrespecting our artist endeavors, Kermit the Frog replacing Justin Pierre from Motion City Soundtrack, and the fact that every band is actually just Sublime. And hey, guess what? Sinclairity will be performing a live episode this year at Pre-Fest in St. Pete, Florida. Join us at Lucky You Tattoo on Tuesday October 26th and check out all the awesome bands that will be playing after us. Show will start at 6 PM, and we will include a link below that you can follow to buy tickets. Thanks! This week's guest for our Coolest Conversation is singer, songwriter, and guitarist Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack. Justin is a member of the newly formed group The Awkward Paws, who released a cover of "It Must Be Summer", a recent Coolest Song in the world. Justin tells us all about the project, the influence of Adam Schlesinger on his career, and his recent solo release 'The Price of Salt'. Join Justin Pierre with Mighty Manfred on this Coolest Conversation in Little Steven's Underground Garage.
Today Justin and I talk about his journey to where he is now and aiming to go. www.instagram.com/jus.pierre
With Motion City Soundtrack reuniting for a comeback tour in 2020 and the recent repressing of their 2010 classic, “My Dinosaur Life”, how could I NOT record an episode about it? Motion City Soundtrack have been one of the most important bands in my life and I would love to share my take on this album and maybe tell some interesting stories along the way. Huge shout out and thanks to Tony Thaxton (drummer) and Justin Pierre (lead singer) of (duh) Motion City Soundtrack for helping out with this episode by taking time out of their busy schedules to answer questions for me. So, sit back and take this nostalgic, some times painful but always fun journey with me as I break it all down! https://www.facebook.com/thevinylcountdownpodcast/ Check out the Facebook page too and give it like! From his mirthful neurosis, pop hooks and best-ever hair, Justin Courtney Pierre is positively unforgettable. On Cautionary Tales, Jason Pettigrew asks him one question and gets the answers to five more in return. From getting fat to losing weight, French New Wave Film, and why he won't talk to you after shows, Pierre's future doesn't freak him out but it does fascinate him.

Episode 68 - Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Pierre takes time away from cleaning his floors for a long chat with Shane. Recently, Motion City Soundtrack decided to call it quits after nearly 20 years of non-stop touring and putting out records both on indie and major labels. Justin and Shane discuss "retirement", his previous drug and alcohol problems, the struggles of singing and songwriting, the fake Silverstein/MCS beef on Warped Tour, and his upcoming solo record. This week we’re excited to be joined by Justin Pierre out of Minnesota. Justin was the co-founder and lead vocalist of Motion City Soundtrack, and with them released 6 albums between 1997 and 2015. The band’s songs gave thoughtful perspectives on mental health and self-doubt, and they recently wrapped up a farewell tour...but hopefully it’s not the end! Justin’s known for his very personal lyrics, trademark sideburns and glasses, and he also hosts a podcast with his wife called Book Narcs. He also makes short films and directs music videos, with some of his credits including work for Limbeck and Sing It Loud. In this interview, Justin talks about Motion City Soundtrack's longevity, overcoming his drinking problem, and why he believes it's important to support other musicians. Enjoy! Highlights: - Justin shares what he believes the secret to Motion City Soundtrack’s longevity is - Justin shares how MCS dealt with some big issues in the band early on - We hear how understanding and respecting each other... Ethan Hawke discusses insecurity, success, and failure as an artist. Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack talks about something pretty closely related to that: struggling with addiction and learning to love yourself.
Over a decade ago, Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Pierre was in the middle of recording "Commit This to Memory" — and in the middle of a battle with addiction. Needless to say, the influence on both was reflexive, but Justin didn't realize how true that was until celebrating the album's 10th anniversary.

For our first show of the new year, we're heading back to 2005 to chronicle Motion City Soundtrack's breakthrough album, Commit This To Memory. Released on June 7, 2005, the Mark Hoppus-produced album served as Motion City Soundtrack's coming-out party and established them as one of the strongest acts in the burgeoning pop-punk/emo music scene thanks to songs like "Everything Is Alright" and "When 'You're' Around." To celebrate the album's 10-year anniversary, MCS are embarking on a US tour, during which they'll be playing the album front to back. I caught up with MCS frontman Justin Pierre just days before the tour's first show to reflect on the album's creation, how his songwriting approach has changed over the years, and much more.
