Paris Chong and Geoff Whitman discuss his upcoming book project featuring his photography of Pearl Jam, an idea that originated from the band's management. Geoff, a longtime Leica user, mentions his inspirations like Jim Marshall and Danny Clinch, the latter of whom gave him advice to "be artful" while photographing the band. They also touch on Geoff's experience working with Pearl Jam, emphasizing how positive and supportive the band and crew are, contrasting it with stories of difficult personalities in the industry. Geoff reveals he's been to 150 Pearl Jam shows, shot a significant portion of them, and now gets paid to do so, which he still finds surreal.Show Clip from The Paris Chong Show with Geoff Whitmanhttps://youtu.be/FssHZQ9g-lchttps://www.theparischongshow.com

Shannon compulsively filmed his life during his unlikely rise to fame, from intimate family moments to hanging out with Guns N' Roses. This is our 200th episode! After four years of this podcast journey, we've reached a wonderful milestone that we'd like to celebrate with you all, and we're going to do that by covering the show that (finally) introduced us into the Gigaton era from the Sea.Hear.Now festival shortly after it's one-year anniversary. We'll talk a lot about the podcast milestone and what it means to us and kind of tie a nice bow on it surrounding what happened at this show, which was the first show that we attending representing the pod when fully established. But it's also about everything that led up to that weekend too. The lingering postponements carried over from 2020 left everyone asking a lot of questions - what kind of band would this be? How would the Gigaton songs translate live? What older songs will still be in the mix? The answers we received were a gateway into a new era of Pearl Jam where setlists would be constructed unlike anything we've seen before. We'll have a lot of discussion on the Gigaton songs, which will be tied into some things we've heard on this more recent tour run. But there are many memorable performances from this night including Present Tense, Wishlist with a Waiting On A Friend tag, Red Mosquito featuring Danny Clinch on harmonica, Better Man with a People Have The Power tag and a cover of Springsteen's My City Of Ruins. Host Will Dailey takes you on a musical tour of Asbury Park, New Jersey: the working-class, seaside city Springsteen made famous. But there was an Asbury before Bruce—the Asbury that made Bruce—and its history isn't all sun and sand. It's also a story of racism, injustice, and deadly tides. But also an American story of survival, revival, and redemption. Get a glimpse of what happens backstage, under the boardwalk, and behind the music as Dailey unearths the ghosts of Asbury Park...as well as the people who have brought it rocking and roaring back to life. A festival show is on the docket as we take a look back at the first night Pearl Jam performed at Austin City Limits in 2014. ACL is always an eclectic festival weekend, but this year had the band headlining alongside Eminem and Outkast, which on paper doesn't seem to be their scene. But the reunited Replacements would go on before them, which would lead to a nice tribute during the Daughter tag. While this is kind of what you'd expect from your average festival sets, there are moments worth going back to in this such as the extended intro version of Love Boat Captain, a touching dedication during the Come Back performance, and we get a Danny Clinch appearance on Red Mosquito. With apologies to all Texans who's state finally has representation on our podcast for the first time in three years, but also, someone might've called them sensitive.  Visit the Concertpedia: http://liveon4legs.com Donate to the show: http://patreon.com/liveon4legs

What's a blind melon? Like most weird band names, there seems to be multiple answers. We'll discuss two of them today, along with the rest of the band's legacy, especially Shannon Hoon. He wasn't around for very long, but he did enough living during that period to make up for it. He also documented almost all of it on video, giving us a rare, very detailed look into the life of a musician - and person - in the early 90s.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The majority of Pearl Jam fans know his story by now from the Let's Play Two movie - he arrived at Wrigley 4 days ahead of time to get in line, Danny Clinch and his crew documented it and we got to witness an all-time personal dedication as Eddie and the boys played Release for John second song in the set. We'll speak to him about some of the stories behind the camera and what was going through his mind both while waiting in line and being on the rail that night in 2016. Also, John has been on the front lines in the fight against Covid-19 and we'll discuss some of the things going on in his world. Bottom line is this - wear your fucking mask. It's time for the 2019 Christmas Episode of the MulletCast! Why is this the Christmas episode? Because it answers a very important question - What do you get the town that has everything for Christmas? Why you give it a world-class music festival over two days on the beach ofcourse! Tim Donnelly is the son of a third generation Elizabeth, NJ firefighter, and his bro is the 4th generation. Tim grew up the youngest of four around the jersey shore and was into music, hoops, boogie boarding, activism, and writing among other things. Tim worked on the Seaside boardwalk, was a badge checker, and a lifeguard. His experience as a badge checker has helped him evade his fellow checkers and to this day he has never owned a proper beach badge despite walking area beaches like a Kiss guitarist (that's "Frehley" for the kids out there). A piece Tim wrote about a drowning victim lead to his work with Body Boarding magazine and eventually a gig as the music editor at Surfer mag. Tim also did important work with the Surfrider Foundation, eventually bringing a chapter back to the Jersey Shore. Tim turned these experiences into working with some of the world's biggest bands at some of the world's best music festivals like Lollapalooza, Woodstock 99, Bonnaroo, and more, and he has helped friends, family, and strangers alike rebuild after Katrina and Sandy. In this episode you will hear about the early Sea.Hear Now that lived on the Asbury boardwalk and how Tim and his friend Danny Clinch went out and made Sea.Hear.Now the killer festival it is now...with a little inadvertent help from Bruce Springsteen along the way! For all you wiseasses out there that are going to comment on my shirt - that's right, I had a garbage can and a camera in the studio and was stealing any signs I could find about the 2020 Sea. Hear. Now lineup. All I want for Christmas is to be standing on the beach of Asbury Park next September on a moonlit night with my eyes closed while an epic Trey Anastasio solo rains down from the heavens over the Atlantic, but despite my sign stealing antics, Tim offered zero clues about next year's lineup. Whattaya say fellas, can we make this happen?! Get all the latest on Sea.Hear.Now at www.seahearnowfestival.com and follow @seahearnow & @donnellysea

We are joined by photographer and director Danny Clinch. Danny is the overseeing director of a new documentary, "All I Can Say," about the late Shannon Hoon... "Shannon Hoon, lead singer of the rock band Blind Melon, filmed himself from 1990-95 with a video camera, recording up until a few hours before his sudden death at the age of 28. His camera was a diary and his closest confidant. In the hundreds of hours of footage, Hoon meticulously documented his life - his family, his creative process, his television, his band’s rise to fame and his struggle with addiction. He filmed his daughter's birth, and archived the politics and culture of the 90’s, an era right before the internet changed the world. Created with his own footage, voice and music, this rare autobiography is a prescient exploration of experience and memory in the age of video. It is also Shannon Hoon's last work, completed 23 years after his death." - from the "All I Can Say" Facebook page.

Through his images he is able to share sides of our favorite artists that we wouldn't normally get to see. We so enjoyed learning some behind the scenes stories and getting some insight into how his shots come together. http://www.dannyclinch.com Still Moving: http://www.dannyclinch.com/shop/books/still-moving

For the past 7 years I have been trying to track down Danny Clinch.  Well, I finally had the chance to sit down with him for a very intimate interview recorded at his NYC studio.  For those who don’t know Danny, let me just say he has defined music lifestyle and advertising photos over the past 20+ years.  He is more than just a “music” photographer, he is a photographer who captures and shares images that tell stories.     There are sometimes interviews where I need to talk a lot, this was not one of them.  I was able to ask a question, sit back and listen to Danny share his entire world with us.  Listen to how he got started.  Listen to the dues he paid a long the way.  And listen to how he continues to evolve time and time again to stay relevant in an ever changing world.  This my friends, is a REAL RAWtalk, nothing was held back, nothing was glossed over, nothing was said with kid gloves.  You can pick up a signed copy of “Still Moving” right here. http://dannyclinch.bigcartel.com/product/still-moving-book   This weeks show PLUG was courtesy of AudioBlocks, VideoBlocks and GraphicStock.  They have been a major partner over the past six months who have afforded us the ability to take our shows and videos to another level.  On top of that they offer an amazing top notch service that we have been using for the past few years.  Give their services a try, if you are a creator, the tools they have with make your content that much better.  Get your trials right here. AudioBlocks.com/go/fro VideoBlocks.com/go/fro GraphicStock.com/go/fro   This week we say goodbye to Sutter as he has become increasingly more busy with his own personal work and no longer will be able to join us each week.  A BIG thank you for his work over the past year and good luck on your Alaskan adventure.     Stephen hits us with 10, count them 10 photo news stories.  As a note about this weeks show, we filmed four days earlier than normal since Stephen was headed on vacation for most of the week.  Any major stories that were not mentioned this week will be included in the next episode.   Be sure to subscribe for the podcast on iTunes so you can be noticed as soon as the episode goes live.  Thank you all for your continued support of the show and the companies who help keep it FREE.    Show Intro - 00:00:16 Sutter's Announcement - 00:02:40 Photo News - 00:09:43 Danny Clinch Interview - 00:39:20   Wheel of Fro - 01:31:30

My first official photography class was in 1997 when I was in 10th grade.  I recall a rack of photography magazines being near the teachers desk and one magazine always caught my attention.  On the cover was this Einstein looking guy holding a really cool “white” lens standing on the ice in front of the net.  The photographers name was Bruce Bennett and he has the destination of being the first photographer I ever looked up to.  I consider him to the most recognizable photographer in NHL history.     There wasn’t a week that went by where I read and re read the article in “Unique Photo” magazine where Bruce talked about being a hockey photographer.  From that point on I knew I wanted to be a Hockey Photographer and that Bruce was the one I wanted to emulate.    Well this week I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Mr. Bruce Bennett.  The interview takes place on the Philadelphia Flyers bench at the Wells Fargo Center before the opening night festivities.  This interview ranks up there with one of my favorite to this point.  Bruce and I share a love for photography and hockey and you will hear us tossing around random hockey knowledge and facts.  The interview starts at 32:23   Do you know what Kerplunk is?  If you don’t we start off the show with a quick game of Kerplunk.  What other vintage games do you recall playing when you were a kid?   Stephen brings us all the photo news stories of the week that you just might find interesting.  Stories include 2 million dollars worth of camera gear was stolen, a video time lapse with stacked video that will blow your mind, the donut selife is introduced and much much more.  Be sure to check the site for all the photo news stories and more.    We take a quick look at a new photo book that was just released by Danny Clinch called, Danny Clinch.  What a solid collection of images.  If you love music or love candid images for that matter this book is going to give you a thrill.  I am working on setting up an interview with Danny so if you can tweet at him and say you would like to see him on FroKnowsPhoto RAW talk that would be appreciated.  @danny_climch    We wrapped up the show with Gear of the week and the Wheel Of Fro!!!!     A big thank you goes out to Rode Microphone, Atomos, Allen’s Camera, all the companies on the Wheel Of Fro and you guys.

I love talking to Frank because It the kind of stuff you only hear if you were there .Frank Stefanko is a fine art photographer with connections to New Jersey performers Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen. Stefanko's seminal photographs, taken in the 1960s through the 80s, reveal the emerging careers of the two artists. In Franks own words,Summer of 2012: Danny Clinch and I had a Gallery Show in Stockholm, and Gothenberg, Sweden.*While in Gothenberg, Danny and I were invited to photograph Bruce Springsteen during his performance at Ullevi Stadium. When in Sweden, I hooked up with old friend Willie NIle.Over the last year, I have been asked to contribute my photography to several new books on Bruce ,"Talk About a Dream" by Christopher Phillips and Louis P. Traveled to Kauai, Maine, and Nova Scotia, to do more landscape photographs.I've also started a series called The Swamps of Jersey inspired from "Rosalita" by Bruce Springsteen. There's been said many things are buried and lost in those swamps. The Metropolitan Museum of Art used one of my Patti Smith photographs in their exhibit "Punk: Chaos to Couture" and The Smithsonian is using another Patti Smith photograph in their exhibit catalog at the National Portrait Gallery called "American Cool". Danny Clinch's photographs have appeared in hundreds of magazines and countless album covers over the years. He's made a career documenting some of the best moments in rock, folk, hip-hop, and beyond. So of course, he's crossed over with Bonnaroo on more than a few occasions. On this episode of The What Podcast, Clinch joins Barry and Lord Taco to chat about some of his best known work, including the iconic photos of Bruce Springsteen in the snow from his Letter to You album. He also tells his stories of shooting Taylor Swift for Time and how he's directly influenced Bonnaroo history.“I had a hand in telling Radiohead how cool Bonnaroo was, and that it was the closest thing to a European that they would see,” he recalls. “They were not so sure about doing it, and when they ended up doing it, they absolutely loved it.”Regarding Springsteen's own appearance on The Farm, Clinch noted: “I also had a lot to do with Springsteen sitting in with Phish that year. Bruce had come and done the festival and he stayed an extra day. He was watching Citizen Cope from the side-stage with one of his sons, and I wandered over to Bruce and I said, ‘Have you seen Phish before?' He said, ‘No!' I said, ‘Well they're tonight; those boys can play anything…' An hour later I ran into their tour manager and he said, ‘Hey Bruce just hit us up! I think he's gonna come and sit in, come over and photograph while they're rehearsing!'”Listen to The What Podcast chat with Danny Clinch here or watch it via YouTube.
