When the Modern Love podcast asked listeners how location sharing is affecting their relationships, the responses they got were all over the map. Some people love this technology. Some hate it. But either way, it has changed something fundamental about how we demonstrate our love and how we set boundaries around relationships. In this episode, the Modern Love team shares a few of their favorite listener responses. Then, host Anna Martin talks with Arlon Jay Staggs, a Modern Love essayist who has wrestled deeply with whether to share his location. At first, location sharing wasn't a big deal for Staggs and his mother. He took a lot of long drives, and it made sense for her to keep tabs on him. But when he realized his mother was watching his little blue dot too closely, and it was causing her stress when she needed peace of mind, Staggs decided the sharing had to stop. He just couldn't figure out how to tell her. And when tragedy struck his family, the stakes of his decision to share or not share became a lot higher.Today's episode was inspired by the essay “Every Move I Make, She'll Be Watching Me.”For more Modern Love, search for the show wherever you get your podcasts. https://trentstaggs.com/meet-trent/ AUTHENTIC UTAHN Trent is a classic Utah success story. Trent was raised in a family with nine siblings. His parents taught him the value of hard work, community involvement, continuous improvement, and personal responsibility early in life. He spent his elementary school years in Orem, graduated from Bingham High School in South Jordan, and served a mission for his church in Tahiti, learning to speak French and Tahitian. Working his way through college, he graduated from the University of Utah in political science and economics. He went on to earn his MBA from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. Trent understands that our way of life here is unique and effective, and under his leadership Riverton has become the best-run city in Utah. Trent was raised here, and lived almost his entire life here. He understands that Washington needs more of Utah, not the other way around.
Dana Staggs, President of Arrowmark Financial Corp., talks about how regulatory capital relief securities — bank-generated floating-rate notes that are currently producing yields of up to 15 percent — can function as an alternative investment. He notes that due to their emergence during the financial crisis of 2008, regulatory capital relief securities can also function efficiently in low-rate environments. Staggs says he believes the economy has "a lot of room to absorb continued declines in interest rates," and that banks are relatively healthy right now. However, he notes that concerns over potential troubles in commercial real estate can't be ignored.

The SLCO GOP sent out a candidate guide for the primary ballot that is causing concern, as it only included candidates that won at convention. Not any of the others that gathered signatures and will also be on the ballot…some who are also leading in the polls. D2 begins the show by comparing the Republican Convention to what's actually going on in the real world. The same convention that booed Governor Cox, voted to put Lyman on primary ballot by 67%. Meanwhile, in the real world, a new Deseret News Poll puts Cox at 62% support among likely voters. At the same time Trent Staggs received 69% of vote at the Republican Convention. But in the real world, Representative John Curtis more than doubles Staggs number -- 34 to 16. Why does the Republican Convention consistently miss the mark for candidates? Mike McKell, State Senator for Utah's 2th District, joins Dave and Debbie to discuss his concern for what the SLCO GOP is doing by only acknowledging convention winners in their candidate guide for the primary ballot.
On this episode of The Ty Brady Way, Ty is joined by Trent Staggs, a passionate public servant aiming to become Utah's next U.S. Senator. Staggs shares his journey from being a city council member in 2013 to becoming the mayor and his current Senate campaign. Trent discusses the challenges he faced, such as initiating a local police force to save taxpayer money, and highlights his commitment to public service over a career in politics. Trent also outlines his platform, which includes a strong stance on balancing the federal budget, banning congressional members and their families from trading individual stocks, and preventing ex-congress members from becoming lobbyists. Trent emphasizes his opposition to omnibus spending bills and his support for the Reins Act to rein in federal regulations. Trent believes in the importance of local governance and self-determination for communities. Throughout the episode, Brady and Trent discuss the significance of grassroots support and voter engagement in the political process. Trent encourages listeners to be informed and participate actively in their civic duties, stressing that real change comes from the involvement of everyday citizens in local and national elections.
