After the hellacious shoot that was Alien 3, not to mention disappointing box office returns, it would seem that Brandywine and 20th Century Fox were done with the Alien franchise, and were willing to call it dead in space. But by 1997, Fox still thought it could get more acid blood from the Alien stone. And in order to help with this feat, they would pull from the one region where Alien 3 was successful, Europe, to get director Jean Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen). Fox also had someone who created their show Buffy The Vampire Slayer by the name of Joss Whedon to pen a script that would somehow bring back Ellen Ripley from the dead in order to once again fight the xenomorphs. With Sigourney Weaver once again coming aboard, it would seem the pieces were all in place to make 1997's Alien Resurrection a return to form. But can admitted non Alien fan Jeunet and a pre Avengers Whedon bring the Alien franchise back to glory? Listen in as Garrett is once again joined by Matt and Adam to answer that question. And come back next week, as the boys take a break from the Alien franchise to start a special Halloween themed series. What can it be?

God lytting!
This month's Out Now with Aaron and Abe commentary track is finishing up the quadrilogy. Aaron is joined by Brandon Peters and Mark Hofmeyer to discuss 1997's Alien Resurrection, the fourth installment in the Alien franchise, from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Listen in to hear the group discuss what makes this entry stand out, where its legacy stands, the wide range of character actors involved, what Jeunet brings to the film, and more. There's plenty more discussion about the amount of slime and smoke in this movie, the excessive amount of hallways and corridors, the appeal of an alien hybrid, and lots of fun tangents as well. Dimanche 28 septembre 1873. 15H.

We take the whimsical streets of Paris for Jean-Pierre Jeunet's cult classic Amelie in today's episode, brought to us by our very special guest autistic film journalist Lillian Crawford. We take great pleasure in revisiting Amelie from an autistic perspective, finding neurodivergent expression in the heightened audio and visual richness of Jeunet's film. Amelie herself is a character who uses various autistic techniques to figure out the people she meets, by using objects and wordplay rather than direct communication to reach her understandings. Things are not entirely rosy: concerns are raised about the film's adherence to heteronormativity, as well as a lack of non-white characters, as well as its sanitised vision of a picture-perfect vision of Paris. Huge thanks to Lillian Crawford for bringing this film to the podcast. We've all become big fans of Lillian's writing on film, and we'd very much encourage you to seek her words out. It's Jeunet et Caro week with Delicatessen (1991), a film about the people living above a sinister delicatessen, all during the post apocalypse; followed by The City of Lost Children (1995), a surrealist fairy tale about a little girl, her friend, and their search for his brother. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Vẫn với đôi mắt to, long lanh, sáng bừng hi vọng, Mathilde chưa bao giờ ngưng tin tưởng là Manech còn sống.

Alien Resurrection is a movie that needs to justify its own existence to its audience especially on the heels of Ripley's ultimate sacrifice. But what better way to continue our heroine's story than to lean into the Christ metaphor and resurrect her with late 90s-era cloning hysteria? Jean Pierre Jeunet earns his audience trust in this film by striking a decidedly goofier tone in this bizarre/grotesque romp that ends up demystifying the alien while honouring the Ripley narrative in a surprisingly satisfying way. Once again we get a stellar ensemble of misfits and some very impersonate-able moments that will leave you thirsty for more. Aleks wears the dunce cap in this ep for losing his audio and causing the gang to rerecord the episode and then having crunchy audio in his re-recording, but he makes up for it by yelling a lot. The gang gives Ripley a fitting send off as they finally complete the Quadrilogy including an emotional tribute from Leila at the end of the episode. Ryan and Dave are back to dig up a cult satire perhaps best left buried, as Dave finally gets his revenge on Ryan for inflicting "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" on him, all those moons ago. With an equal parts disturbing and hilariously over-the-top Bill Paxton performance, Wayne Newton in a prominent role for some reason, and Judd Nelson before he disappeared off the face of the earth, this film was... certainly something. Also, Ryan detects echoes of Lynch and Jeunet in director Adam Rifkin's dystopian presentation, while Dave waxes nostalgic over the niche video store where he found this movie in the first place.

Esther Bourdages is an art critic, radio journalist, independent curator, and musician based in Montréal. She is an improviser of extraordinary sensitivity, bringing a playfulness to her tactile manipulation of vinyl records, sometimes outright mishandling them. This freedom to destroy is indicative of a resistance to structure and formalism, but Esther’s work can’t be easily dismissed as some sort of exercise in catharsis. Instead her approach to live improvisation is raw and expressive, and cultivated over decades of ongoing exploration. Much of her recent studio work is for radiophonic diffusion, often based on field-recordings and with a politicized context. We discuss her unique approach to vinyl, the history of Canadian artist-run centres, and the intersection of art and sound from multiple perspectives. - you get the point - så HAR filmen faktisk noget at byde på også.
A long awaited episode for Philosophy In Film, as we finally tackle the 2001 Jean-Pierre Jeunet Romantic Comedy, "Amelie". Chris fights through some technical difficulties and explains the concept of moral happiness, Alain argues that this is darkest movie we've covered yet, and Craig talks about Swiss Chalet. In a somewhat surprising turn, Alain shocks us all at the end of the episode... again. Featured Beverage: Hopped Mead from the Fallentimber Meadery. (Water Valley, Alberta)

Podcast nombre 84 travels to buoyant Paris and glides into the charming world of Amelie Poulain. Audrey Tautou dream girls it up as the title character, never quite falling into the trap of being too cutesy...or manic pixie-ish. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's direction is right on point (en pointe?) and kudos to him for making a film that's remained pretty timeless. Sony executive Becky D'Anna joins Martin for a conversation about love, happiness, and digital color timing. They look at how Amélie fits into the filmography of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and discuss its cast, visual style, and music as well as its enduring appeal. Our spotting session for Amélie is perhaps our most unique installment thus far. We endeavor to cover the entire soundtrack for the film, putting each piece in its time and place. Jeunet, Tiersen and the editorial team assembled a clever collection of 'needle drops' into a narratively compelling underscore. We progress track by track through Amélie's music, uncovering the spirit of the film and the soul of our heroine. From 40s era showtunes to carnival organs to club remixes to intimate original piano ballads, listening to the music of this film end to end is an aural delight. Breaking down each individual piece, we set the table for next week's full-length audio commentary. Jeunet and Caro's delightful delicacy "Delicatessen" is arguably the best post-apocalyptic cannibal comedy--ever. Combining a singular look, hearkening back to the silent era of great European cinema, with a wild and ultimately touching story of a clown, a girl and a butcher, "Delicatessen" does what perfect movies do--it pulls you in and, just for a time, removes you from your hum-drum existence.

For the first episode of season 3, Renan and Bill consider their second Jeunet et Caro film: 1995's THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. Featuring Ron Perlman in his first starring feature role (in phoenetically-memorized French!), six times the Dominique Pinon as Delicatessen, incredible constructed harbor town sets and all the water to go with it, Rube Goldberg-inspired sequences, and conjoined twins, CITY is a feast for the senses. So, how does it stack up against other Jeunet films? What makes it work (or not) as a story? How does it borrow from Charles Dickens? What tropes does it trade on? And what went wrong with Alien: Resurrection? This episode has all that, and more! With influences ranging from Chaplin and Fellini to Rube Goldberg and Terry Gilliam, DELICATESSEN by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and occasional co-director Marc Caro defies easy summary. Maybe you'd better just give it a try? Set in a single apartment building in a dystopic future France, Jeunet et Caro imagine a world of hidden connections, quiet desperations, quirky comedy, light-hearted cannibalism, and a roster of peculiar residents whose dependence on their barbarous landlord-butcher is challenged by an erstwhile clown still mourning the tragic death of his chimpanzee partner. We love doing our Listener’s Choice episodes — it’s a great way for our listeners to get us to finally talk about movies about which conversations are long overdue. Cameron Ryan, our 2014 Pony Prize winner, got to pick the movie this time, and ended up picking the fantastic black comedy “Delicatessen,” a movie that we both love but for whatever reason just hadn’t gotten around to discussing yet. So now finally, join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we enjoy another Listener’s Choice episode with one of our faves, the Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Marc Caro 1991 film “Delicatessen.” We talk with Cameron about why she chose this film and what it means to her, as well as the joy of winning the Pony Prize. We discuss the look of the movie — Jeunet and Caro each come from graphical backgrounds and, when paired with Darius Khondji’s beautiful cinematography, as well as the amazing production and costume design, created an unforgettable post-apocalyptic world. We chat about the indelible performances, starting with Dominique Pinon, a perfect choice for someone who was a former circus performer. And we talk about the nature of the story, a very upside down world with hell on earth and underground saviors. It’s a marvelous film that deserves to be talked about, so tune in! Hey! You know what would be awesome? If you would drop us a positive rating on iTunes! And we talk about the nature of the story, a very upside down world with hell on earth and underground saviors. It's a marvelous film that deserves to be talked about, so tune in! Hey! You know what would be awesome? If you would drop us a positive rating on iTunes! If you like what we're doing here on TNR, it really is the best way to make sure that this show appears when others search for it, plus, it's just a nice thing to do. Thanks!! We love doing our Listener's Choice episodes — it's a great way for our listeners to get us to finally talk about movies about which conversations are long overdue. Cameron Ryan, our 2014 Pony Prize winner, got to pick the movie this time, and ended up picking the fantastic black comedy “Delicatessen,” a movie that we both love but for whatever reason just hadn't gotten around to discussing yet. So now finally, join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we enjoy another Listener's Choice episode with one of our faves, the Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Marc Caro 1991 film “Delicatessen.” We talk with Cameron about why she chose this film and what it means to her, as well as the joy of winning the Pony Prize.
