On this episode of Tent Show Radio, Midwest folk group Good Morning Bedlam showcases their exciting sound & soaring three-part harmonies, then, acoustic musician Gareth Pearson, known for his distinctive fingerstyle techniques, captivates with his creative and innovative arrangements. Good Morning Bedlam has become an innovative force in the Midwest folk scene. Their shows are known for their contagious energy, with members careening about the stage. With tight soaring three-part harmonies, and thumping kick-drum, they captivate their audience night after night. Every song is a unique twist on what is generally dubbed as folk music. In 2019, the folk-rock band from Minneapolis, MN claimed the first-place title at the John Hartford Memorial Festival Band Competition and were finalists at the NWSS Band Competition. Their shows are known for their wild energy and stunning harmonies. They have played at festivals alongside artists such as Shakey Graves, Sam Bush, Jason Isbell, The Infamous Stringdusters, Trampled By Turtles and others. In 2021, the band ran a successful Kickstarter in July of 2021 for their much anticipated third full-length record ‘Lulu' where fans from around the world pledged a total of $34,000. Good Morning Bedlam has been featured on Bluegrass Today, Relix Magazine, Glide Magazine, and Paste Magazine. Now in 2023 the band is gearing up to release a brand-new EP titled Dear Day, Dear Darling in the Fall of this year. Referred to as "The Welsh Tornado," Gareth Pearson has emerged as one of the most exciting acoustic musicians of his generation. His distinctive style can be heard through his creative and innovative arrangements which cover a wide spectrum of genres including country/folk/classical/pop/rock/jazz/swing and bluegrass music, along with his own beautiful and often intricate original compositions, which serve in showcasing an enthusiasm and musical intuition well beyond his years. Influenced by guitar greats like Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel and Merle Travis, Gareth Pearson strays from the traditional style of the seated and motionless acoustic performances. An extremely entertaining and inspiring performer, Pearson exhibits immense love for the music he performs while he combines fingerstyle pyrotechnics, with explosive lead runs as his exuberant style denotes a mastery of the instrument very few possess. March was International Women's Month and I sat down with Anna Ayers, the General Manager at Brooklyn Bowl Williamsburg, for this week's episode of Roadcase. I talked to Anna not only about her role at Pete Shapiro's flagship venue but also chatted about her background in performing arts, the music business, and what it means to her to work in the unique environment at the Bowl, which features women in all major management roles. March 3, 1993 at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, Ilinois, may go down as one of the most important dates in modern Jam Band history. The Grateful Dead performed that night in the Windy City and said venue and noted promoter, club owner, philanthropist, activist and raconteur Peter Shapiro was in attendance, at the first Dead show he ever attended. He recently published a memoir of his life's work to date in a must read book “The Music Never Stops…” co-penned by Dean Budnick the editor at Relix Magazine. I've always been intrigued by Peter Shapiro's efforts to bring quality music to live audiences. Up until recently I've had a very general periphery idea of his accomplishments, but after reading his book, I needed to know more, directly from Peter himself… First song: Grateful Dead - 03-11-93 - Help on the Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower - Rosemont Horizon - Chicago, IL Second song: Phil Lesh and Friends - 07-22-13 - Pride of Cucamonga - The Capitol Theatre - Port Chester, NY Third song: Joe Russo's Almost Dead - 02-10-22 - Feel Like a Stranger - Brooklyn Bowl - Philadelphia, PA See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My guest this week is Nashville based tour manager, Joe Lentini. As of late, Joe has been touring the country working as the tour manager for Daniel Donato. Prior to joining Donato's team, he interned at Relix Magazine and the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville. This podcast episode was truly unique in the way it all came together. I was in Nashville playing a couple gigs in early March. On my off day, I went out to discover a new brewery. What I found was Southern Grist in east Nashville (highly recommend!). As I sat drinking my beer and writing in my journal, I noticed Joe sitting a couple seats down submitting setlists to BMI. I asked him what he did and we got to talking. He was just a cool dude. The kind of guy that knows everyone just by going out and being himself. Before I left, I told Joe about my podcast and that I'd like to interview him because I've never had a tour manager on. He immediately agreed and we made it happen! During our conversation, Joe and I chat about the culture of cosmic country, the ins and outs of tour managing, his tie dye business (Trippy Toes Dyes), and his love for plants. If you enjoy the podcast, please let others know, subscribe or write a review. 5 star ratings and reviews on Apple Music as well as subscribing to my YouTube Channel help me out the most!! It's almost impossible to be a fan of music and not know the name Peter Shapiro. Chances are you've heard of places like Wetlands Preserve, The Capitol Theater, and Brooklyn Bowl. You may even be familiar with Relix Magazine, originally launched in 1974, which focuses on live music, festivals, artist interviews, etc. If the aforementioned still doesn't ring a bell, I'm sure you know the names Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir. Peter Shapiro is at the center of all of those things and many more. He is also a master at creating the right “vibes” for the right moment. “When we are able to express ourselves, we can let go of different things that we've been through.” Kendra Muecke. There is no limit to what possibilities are available when it comes to art, and this is especially true in times of change and uncertainty. The entertainment industry which was especially hit by the effects of the pandemic proved this after they were forced to explore new possibilities to showcase the creations and connect with their audience. Our guest today, Kendra Muecke, was able to explore such possibilities and got to live an exceptional experience during this period. She affirms the importance of embracing and being confident in your art even in the most difficult of times. Kendra Muecke is a singer/songwriter, writer, actress, and published author from Houston, TX-based now in Los Angeles, CA. In today's episode, Kendra will be talking to us about how and what she perceives art to be and also how she has evolved in her art and managed to keep up with changes and the uncertainties in the current environment. Listen in! [2:46] I started doing professional vocal lessons, professional dancing, and acting lessons which became my everything. [3:13] I would go down to the theater several times a week and acted and learned all the songs and made friends. [3:20] Later on, I got into sports too but pretty much my entire life has been about acting, theater, and the arts. [3:32] Later on, in high school, I got into rock and roll music and philosophical questioning and spirituality, guitar and poetry too which has played a big part in my career. [3:41] I feel like art is the extension of my expression. [4:22] I would go through these experiences and make them part of my memory and that is where the song comes in. [5:10] 2020 was a total surprise. I had some tours booked but had to shift my mindset and postpone all the events. [7:23] I however decided to go ahead and switch to all online since I was already very active on social media and I had live-streamed a little bit. [8:15] I live-streamed over 150 shows last year and partnered with venues across the country and did a virtual live stream tour concert with people all over the country. [8:30] For people that were really creative about doing this, you might you probably reached audiences you wouldn't have. [8:55] I started to be known as ‘the live stream person' and so I got a lot of opportunities from people just by word of mouth because I was consistently showing up. [9:02] I am now doing a little bit of professional live streaming where I've been signed on by an agency to help grow another platform. [9:13] It gave us a reason to put a pause button on things and think and so a lot of my songs and moments came in particular from being at home experiencing this year. [9:52] I will talk about the song ‘Self-love Proclamation' since you talked about it earlier which I was recently nominated for three Josie awards. [11:00] ‘Self-love proclamation' is co-written with a lot of people in Nashville and is all about just ripping off the band-aid and saying this is who I am and I'm going to love myself for who I am and that journey to finding ourselves is evident in the song. [11:15] Commercial Break. [11:40] Song teaser [12:50] There are so many different things that come to mind, the first thing would be the healing element to art. [15:01] When we can express ourselves, we can let go of different things that we've been through. [15:08] I work sometimes with this nonprofit based in Los Angeles, called artists for trauma and is where people who have PTSD, physical, mental, veterans, emotional, spiritual healing, come together to do art and I think that encapsulates what art can do for us. [15:14] It's done that for me personally, just like dealing with, you know, different racing thoughts, or whatever goes on in my life, I'm able to channel that into the guitar or into a poem or lyrics, and let it go. [15:35] The next thing would be the cohesion of community thought that can be showcased through an event. [16:09] It is also a really good way to start conversations in a way that is accommodating to different perspectives. [17:16] Sometimes I think about how there's there is art written about the previous history, but then I realize that we are creating history every day. [18:31] I'm really excited to see people start to go back to concert venues and have those shared experiences because we've craved being together in those shared experiences. [18:58] It still may take a while but I think we're going to appreciate it even more now. [19:10] I watched a lot of live streams with different artists and put on a lot of different live streams with different artists. [20:02] The one thing that I've been going back to over and over right now is, only you know. [22:08] We can take advice and we can listen to other people and we can listen for clues from the universe but at the end of the day, it's about our own perspective and how we filter in. [22:14] This means this only we know our true north and our true path. [22:40] …………………………………………………………………………………… Thank You to our August Sponsor! Zig At The Gig with Bob Lord Bob Lord is a producer, composer, and bassist based in Portsmouth NH USA. In 2015 Bob was named one of Musical America's “30 Professionals of the Year: Key Influencers,” and as CEO of PARMA Recordings his work has been nominated for three GRAMMY Awards in 2019 and 2020. PLAYLAND ARCADE, Lord's debut solo album out on April 27, 2021, is a convergence point of the disparate elements from what clearly is a remarkably diverse career. Hard-charging prog-rock blowouts, atmospheric orchestral potboilers, gauzy jazz improvisations, retro instrumental pop, straight up foley – this is a producer's album through and through, and it reflects Lord's own artistic experiences in a kaleidoscopic fashion. The musicianship is as accomplished as it is audacious. Highlighted by Lord's molten, overdriven 8-string bass, the album features drummer Jamie Perkins (from the Billboard chart-topping group The Pretty Reckless) and keyboardist Duncan Watt (composer for “League of Legends”) with cameos by Ed Jurdi (Band of Heathens, Trigger Hippy), Andy Happel (Thanks To Gravity), and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, with percussion recorded in Havana, Cuba. Lord's resume is a particularly unusual one bolstered by some truly singular credits: with Pete Townshend of The Who, Bob co-produced the double album METHOD MUSIC by Lawrence Ball, released in 2012 on Navona Records and hailed by Pitchfork for its “wondrous, rippling, and startlingly tactile music.” He is also the music producer of WILD SYMPHONY, an orchestral suite composed by the #1 NY Times bestselling author Dan Brown (“The Da Vinci Code”) which accompanies the illustrated children's book of the same title released in 2020. The book is published in more than 40 countries worldwide. In 1996 Bob co-founded the award-winning group Dreadnaught, described by Relix Magazine as “the country's best 'pure' prog-rock combo.” The band has performed with artists such as John Entwistle (The Who), Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), and NRBQ, and their 25th anniversary album NORTHERN BURNER is set to drop in Summer 2021. It's so important and crucial that I love what I do, because I'm doing it all the time. Relish in all the accomplishments big and small. “I think maybe it makes us dig deeper into who we are and analyze what we really want in life, but to just dwell in self doubt, doesn't serve a purpose.” - Kendra She can make a new decision and turn it in an emotional realm and in a realm that makes more sense at the time. If we change where we are, then we change the future, and we change all those people's lives. And that changes like the face of reality. Instead of career and naming lights, I'm learning to regain a loving life just for living. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/hacksandhobbies/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hacksandhobbies/support

Originally from West Virginia, KOLE grew up in a musical family alongside his 5 younger brothers and sisters. He received his first major break at age 15, performing with Lacey Sturm, of Flyleaf. This would catapult him into pursuing a promising career in music. At age 18, he moved to California and began performing as a drummer gaining success in just a few years. He then decided it was time to focus on writing music for other artists and bands. This move would lead him back east to Pittsburgh where he eventually would meet a young producer, Caleb Thomas. Together they began to create the first major project of his career. KOLE's nine track LP titled CaH20, is set to release in 2021.
