Karin Volo didn't become the CEO and Chief Joy Bringer at Evoloshen, a personal and organizational development expert, an international best-selling author, and an inspirational speaker by normal circumstances. Her success was born from a nightmare. In 2006, Karin's life suddenly came to a crashing halt when she was arrested for fraud and was forced to sit in prison for 1,352 days. For almost four years, Karin was determined to stay positive, and when she was released, she understood that her purpose in life was to teach others how to do the same. In this episode, Karin explains how her work combines what she learned and her experience working in the corporate world. Once her name was cleared, Karin began to dig into research around what makes people hate their jobs so she could define the strategies needed to create workplaces people love and can therefore thrive in. Listen in to hear the five culture keys Karin has identified and outlined in her book, Engage!. Along the way, you'll learn how to define, scale, and measure culture. Karin Volo had a bad feeling about her first husband. Ignoring the signs, she went about her life until one day she was suddenly arrested. While incarcerated she started to reflect. Trust, forgiveness, and positive thinking became strong allies, not only for her but for many others that she met inside. Karin was finally pronounced innocent and release into freedom after being locked up for 1.352 days, ready to bring her newfound wisdom to the world. In this week’s episode I welcome Karin Volo. She is known as a chief joy bringer and CEO and is the founder of Evoloshen. Based in Stockholm Sweden she helps companies transforming cultures and delivering high performance. Karin has been recognised as a global leader and employee engagement expert on the Engagement 101 list and recently named in the Top 30 HR Influencers and the 15 Most Influential Women in HR lists. She talks about her three words: Inspiration, Joy and Evolution - she recommends the listener to find out their three words too. Her definition of success is a ‘personal question’ - moments of joy, creating amazing memories. We discuss happiness and success, which is also addressed in my book Principles of Success, based on the conversations I had on this podcast. Her life changed unexpectedly when she got tapped on the shoulders when trying to leave the US and was subsequently put into jail. She writes about her story in the book 1352 days, describing her experience how life changed from having a fantastic time in business and life, to being arrested without hadn't done anything wrong; having 2 small children at the time which couldn’t visit her. This flipped her life upside down. One thing she learned was to play a mental movie to herself over and over again to be freed; the visualisation and mental work helped her to stay sane, but also it became true. Her life changed from there, and she wrote a book called Engage which lead to the work she is doing now. Karin focuses on bringing joy to the workplace. She says, trust is the basis of a good work culture, and she has a strong desire for people to learn trust and the positive impact it has on the workplace; it leads us to discuss the 4 days work week, and how happiness is key to the workplace. We are discussing mindfulness and positive psychology. She is also a Certified C-IQ™ Coach and that’s where I first heard about conversational intelligence, and again this is something we speak about it in depth. Since the recording I incorporate aspects of that into my executive and productivity coaching too. For Karin it is important that we all understand the power we have inside ourselves, and her mantra is “Life is change - change is constant - growth is optional” Sign up for updates on her websites to stay in touch: www.evoloshen.com or www.karinvolo.com This podcast is hosted by Volker Ballueder (Ballueder Partners), an executive and productivity coach and growth consultant. Volker also wrote a book on productivity and life improvement #BeBetter. He just launched his new book Principles for Success, based on the interviews in this podcast. Karin Volo berättar vad det var som fick henne att överleva och till och med gå stärkt ur historien som för alltid kommer att prägla henne. Karin Volo, Chief Joy Bringer – Co-founder Evoloshen There aren’t many of these around! Karin Volo, co-author Engage! is joining us to talk about their new International Cultural Engagement Specialist™ certification programme. We’ve invited Karin onto the show to find out more about what is covered in their new engagement specialist certification programme and to talk about the reasons that they have created and launched it. As you may already know the Engage for Success movement takes a fairly benign view of commercial models, programmes or activity. In other words we are happy to talk about and share them within the movement but without any intention of ‘sponsorship’. We don’t usually stress this on our show pages, given we interview many gurus / service providers, but we felt that it ought to be made clear for this show that this isn’t our programme although we’re very pleased to have gurus, such as Karin, within our midst who are addressing learning needs in the space.
