Few embody this more than Prof. Alan Arthur Tratner, who helped organize the very first Earth Day in 1970 and has since built a global legacy supporting green entrepreneurs and inventors.Alan's work reminds me that bold action in the face of crisis can spark lasting transformation. In today's episode, he shared the story of rushing to the oil-soaked beaches of Santa Barbara after the catastrophic 1969 spill, an experience that moved him to tears and propelled him into environmental activism. “I broke down, fell on my knees and cried... and then I just said we've got to stop this. We have to find a way to do it,” Alan recalled. That determination led him to found Green2Gold, a unique non-profit incubator that has nurtured over 100,000 inventors, entrepreneurs and more than 300 non-profits focused on environmental and social responsibility. Alan's approach is rooted in the belief that innovation can solve the problems it helped create. “We invented our way into this mess, we could innovate and invent our way out,” he explained. One of the most compelling aspects of Alan's work is his early embrace of investment crowdfunding. He recognized that democratizing access to capital could accelerate the development of climate solutions. “Equity crowdfunding was the democratization of investing. No longer did you have to be wealthy or be in power... anyone in the world, accredited or unaccredited, could invest in an American company,” Alan said.Through Green2Gold's programs, Alan continues to champion breakthrough technologies in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and disaster recovery. His “Build Back Green” project, for instance, emerged in response to the devastating wildfires in Lahaina and now provides a blueprint for rebuilding communities in sustainable, resilient ways.If you're inspired by Alan's vision or want to learn more about Green2Gold's work, visit green2gold.org. For entrepreneurs and inventors seeking support—or anyone interested in investing in a better world—Alan and Green2Gold are showing what's possible when we put creativity and collective action to work for the planet.tl;dr:Alan Tratner shared his journey from the first Earth Day to launching the Green2Gold impact incubator. He described the critical role of innovation and entrepreneurship in addressing environmental crises worldwide.Alan emphasized the power of equity crowdfunding to democratize investment for green ventures and climate solutions. He highlighted the importance of perseverance, creativity and passion for lasting impact in nonprofit and business work.Alan offered actionable advice for aspiring changemakers to lead with purpose and build sustainable ventures. How to Develop Creative Problem-Solving As a SuperpowerAlan's superpower lies in the fusion of creativity, scientific thinking and practical experience. As he described, “I think that creative spark, that passion, you know, I try to give our entrepreneurs and our nonprofits the same feelings about... inventing in the fields that are going to make a difference.” He credits his background in science, art and design, as well as years of nonprofit leadership and invention, for giving him a “quiver of superpowers” that enable him to help others become problem solvers and critical thinkers.Illustrative Story:Alan shared how he has supported over 315 nonprofits and 100,000 entrepreneurs through Green2Gold by applying his expertise in nonprofit management, invention and funding. For years, he persisted with a wind turbine invention that was ahead of its time, waiting 45 years for the right moment to see it realized. He emphasized that passion and perseverance are crucial. “If you quit, you can't win,” Alan said, reflecting on the decades he devoted to innovations that now have renewed relevance.Actionable Tips for Developing Creative Problem-Solving:Treat your venture or nonprofit as a passionate career, not just a hobbyPut your whole self—brain, energy and opportunities—into your missionEmbrace challenges and persist through setbacks; don't give up if progress is slowSurround yourself with people who share your passion and driveThink entrepreneurially, even in nonprofit work, to build sustainability and legacyBy following Alan's example and advice, you can make creative problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileProf. Alan Arthur Tratner (Earthling):Founder /Chairman of Green2Gold, Green2Gold global impact Incubator---501 c 3About Green2Gold global impact Incubator---501 c 3: Helped found Earth Day and the first UN International Conference on the Human Environment. “Culturally, it's so important because a lot of experiences are just the same all over the world. Hotels, theaters, cinemas, music—it's so mainstream today that we all consume pretty much the same thing. But culinary-wise, there's still this chance to create and cook something that's so local on the level of experience that you can really understand and feel the landscape, the seasons, the culture, and the history of the country. So I'm super happy to be in that field because I think we're one of the last kinds of handcrafts that are still very present in the city.”We're in great company with Niklas Ekstedt, the Swedish Chef famously known around the world for reigniting the ancient way of cooking over fire in Scandinavia at his restaurant Ekstedt in Stockholm, where he has been recognized by The Best Chef Awards and a recipient of a Michelin Star. After an acclaimed culinary career as a young chef, Niklas found himself returning to his roots, curiously unearthing forgotten techniques and a sophisticated Scandinavian culinary heritage that challenged the Mediterranean supremacy he felt ready to challenge. What may have started as a small spark in his fire-forged restaurant ultimately created a movement where ancient methods meet modern gastronomy. In this episode, Niklas warmly welcomes us to savor a taste of this nearly lost artform, sparking our curiosity about what other ancient rituals we should unearth and giving us the courage to begin our own adventures. Top Takeaways[2:50] Amid the forests of northern Sweden, young Niklas's tastes were shaped by Sámi playmates, parents who embraced nature's bounty, and wilderness that would one day call him back to cooking by fire.[5:05] From his rural roots to culinary stardom, Niklas traveled through Chicago kitchens, befriended René Redzepi in Copenhagen, trained at legendary elBulli, then returned to Sweden where, barely into his twenties, he opened his first restaurant and was met with celebrity chef status…that is before he discovered his true flame.[9:30] In a secluded island kitchen outside Stockholm, Niklas found himself captivated by primitive cooking methods, discovering a forgotten Nordic culinary sophistication that would become the foundation of his revolutionary fire-forged restaurant.[16:05] Stepping into Ekstedt, guests embark on a primal sensory journey where crackling flames illuminate the darkness, birchwood smoke perfumes the air, and the kitchen's ancient fire elements transform seasonal Nordic ingredients into dishes that evoke both a forgotten past and an innovative future, creating an experience that transcends mere dining to become a connection with Sweden's culinary heritage.[25:20] Niklas continues to foster community through Tyge & Sessil, an intimate space celebrating hidden gem natural wines, and Hillenberg, a neighborhood brasserie where humble Scandinavian cooking creates an accessible entry point to his Nordic culinary philosophy. [28:00] See Stockholm through Niklas's eyes—travel metro stations turned art installations, discover museum treasures without spending a krona, go island hopping by boat, and embrace the Swedish “Allemansrätten” right to roam.Notable Mentions Charlie Trotter's in ChicagoNorwegian explorer & writer, Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki expeditionSkepparholmen Nacka outside Stockholm“Kardemummabullar” traditional Swedish Cardamom Buns for a daily “Fika” Alice Waters, pioneer of the “farm-to-table” movement in AmericaA Taste From AfarCookbooks by Niklas EkstedtEkstedt: The Nordic Art of Analogue Cooking Food from the FireScandinavian ClassicsHappy FoodVisit For YourselfEkstedt Website | @ekstedtrestaurant | @niklasekstedt

Send us a textIn 1973, in Stockholm Sweden, bank robbers took several hostages in their failed robbery. What emerged from that incident was an understanding that people can become sympathetic to those doing evil and actually support them in their evil. This is referred to as Stockholm Syndrome. In the spiritual world, this is nothing new as the Devil has convinced many to play ball in his court and go along with his rebellion resulting in many deceived people paying a horrible price for their ignorance. But in Christ we are made aware of the Devil's schemes and given the Holy Spirit to combat the Devil's deception. Sadly however, many victims of the Devil's deception sit in pews week after week living as spiritual hostages and don't even realize it. In Christ we are liberated from the Devil's chains and set free from sin. It no longer has power over us but if we are not careful is can still influence us as it sits crouching at our door continually.

Hello to you listening in Stockholm, Sweden!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I have walked, bathed and rested in many forests. Some with trees 300 or 400 years old. Others, less mature. Trees are wise in ways that can't be taught. As mortals perhaps the best we can do is wander among them in sacred silence, listen, learn, revere, and sustain these forested communities.Hermann Hesse wrote: “For me, trees have always been the most penetrating preachers. I revere them when I live in tribes and families, in forests and groves. And even more I revere them when they stand alone. They are like lonely persons. Not like hermits who have stolen away out of some weakness, but like great, solitary men, like Beethoven and Nietzsche. In their highest boughs the world rustles, their roots rest in infinity; but they do not lose themselves there, they struggle with all the force of their lives for one thing only: to fulfill themselves according to their own laws, to build up their own form, to represent themselves.... Whoever has learned to listen to trees no longer wants to be one. He wants to be nothing except who he is.”BONUS: Click to access the pdf: Trees: An Anthology of Writings and PaintingsYou're always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe and spread the word with a generous 5-star review and comment - it helps us all - and join us next time!Meanwhile, stop by my Quarter Moon Story Arts website to:✓ Check out Services I Offer,✓ Arrange your no-sales, Complimentary Coaching Consult,✓ Stay current with Diane as “Wyzga on Words” on Substack and on LinkedInStories From Women Who Walk Production TeamPodcaster: Diane F Wyzga & Quarter Moon Story ArtsMusic: Mer's Waltz from Crossing the Waters by Steve Schuch & Night Heron MusicAll content and image © 2019 to Present Quarter Moon Story Arts. Dr Nicolas Bazan is a world-renowned neuroscientist with a research lab in Stockholm Sweden and another here in New Orleans. When Dr Bazan was a guest on Out to Lunch, he pointed out that, compared to other fields of medicine, treatment for conditions of the human brain are at a primitive stage. For example, the current standard of care for Traumatic Brain Injury is “rest.” Part of the reason there's no medication for neurological conditions like dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinsons is the way pharmacological research is conducted. For obvious reasons, there are rigorous controls on the development of neurological drugs before they're allowed to be tested on humans. The only new medications that are allowed to be trialed by humans are ones that have proven safe in trials on animals. But an astounding 94% of these neurological drugs fail - because preclinical results on animals can't predict results in humans. It's with this is mind that Lowry Curley founded his revolutionary biomedical research company, AxoSim. AxoSim simulates brain cells, so drug developers can try out a drug on a human brain without having an actual human being attached to it. We last talked to Lowry when this was all just getting off the ground, in 2016, a couple of years after the company was founded in New Orleans. Today, AxoSim has two laboratories, 30 employees, 3 separate research divisions, and a bunch of industry-leading patents. The human brain is a delicate organ. That's why it's housed in a hard case: the skull. But there are some activities where even the skull and a protective helmet aren't enough to prevent the brain from getting injured. One of those activities is military combat. Veterans who lose limbs in combat have established pathways to recovery. But veterans with brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other neurological conditions can go undiagnosed. Veterans who struggle with these issues find themselves isolated and lonely – part of the reason for the high rate of veteran suicide. Here in New Orleans a program called Headway is setting out to solve these issues by placing affected veterans in a purpose-built housing development, called Bastion Community of Resilience. It's a $14m, five-and-a-half acre neighborhood of homes in Gentilly in which veterans with neurological wounds live among other veterans, and volunteers. We spoke with the founder of Bastion, Dylan Tete, back in 2016 when the site was under construction. Today Bastion is a living neighborhood and we're joined by it's Executive Director, Jackson Smith. For a medium-sized city in the south of the United States, New Orleans gets a lot of publicity. Most of it - even when it's generated by our own city and state agencies - focuses on what a great place New Orleans is to eat, drink, and listen to music. And, it is. But we're so much more than that. One of these days maybe we'll also be recognized for being the home of AxoSim, a company that's revolutionizing neurological medical research, and the Bastion Community of Resilience, pioneering healthcare and the welfare of military veterans. Out to Lunch was recorded live over lunch at Columns in Uptown New Orleans. There's an interlude on Lil Wayne's No Ceilings mixtape where he was this playing in the background and I really always loved the sound and the sample of Whitney… I had to bite it and run it for y'all man. This is Real Talk. Down here in Atlanta, had to do a little living Like an artist when they disappear when they're working on a new project. I had to do a little living and not only gather new material, but experience new things, travel to new places and connect with new people. But I got this very special batch of episodes for you. I've got platinum selling DJs, award-winning muralists, trauma specialists that boast 1.6 million followers on TikTok, entrepreneurs and business owners, rappers, journalists, coaches, chefs, sales men and women… I've got transplants, I've got locals, I've got people who joined me from Stockholm Sweden despite the time difference. I've got it all, and it's a beautiful collection of human beings and I'm finally ready to share their stories and this project with the world. I hope that these episodes inspire you, speak to you, that you connect with them and they resonate with you in a major way. Because at the end of the day, you are not alone. A lot of these guests are people who have never been on a podcast before, and I take the upmost pride in how well they did as a result of trusting me and feeling comfortable in that space to open up and share. I love it when people say, I've never told anyone this before, or, I never really connected those dots until just now, or this was therapeutic! Those affirmations are my why. That's the real shit. Every episode is a certified banger. Run it front to back and you will not be disappointed. Have a story you want to share with the world? Hit me at bennytomp18@gmail.com, or on social media @bennytomp18 or @realtalkwbennyt Shoutout Ikson for intro/outro music I've decided to go with the batch of episodes over dropping week to week because I'm the king of the binge. Benny the binger. Most of these are about an hour long, and I firmly believe that if the content if good enough, people will come back to it. And hopefully, if you enjoy one of these episodes and you're new to the show, checkout the backlog I have up on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. We're somewhere around 130 episodes at this point, I'm gonna serve y'all some new stuff here, let you discover the older stuff which are just as great, and then I'm gonna get back to work and have another drop for you later this year. In this batch of episodes, it's my pleasure to introduce the following men and women and their topics. I hope you enjoy these episodes half as much as we enjoyed playing em for you because we had a ball. Major shoutout to all my guests who came on and made time and shared everything they did. If you vibe with any of these episodes, please, drop a rating and a review wherever you listen to podcasts, and share them with two other people. Put ‘em on. Help me grow this show and keep building this community. I've got some more guests to find and people to connect with, so enjoy these, and stay tuned for the next drop. This is Real Talk. Enjoy, my friends.

With Chris Kapelios, Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Athens - Greece & Gianluigi Savarese, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm - Sweden. This HFA CardioTalk podcast episode addresses Clinical inertia and optimization of heart failure therapy. The data we have on use of HF medications come from registries and may not be generalizable to unselected, real-world populations. The proportion of HFrEF patients treated with optimal medical therapy differs considerably among registries (between 70% to >90% for a beta-blocker, 60% to >90% for RASi, 15-45% for ARNI, 30-60% for MRA). It is well documented that optimal HFrEF treatment leads to better quality of life, and reduction in mortality, HF hospitalizations and healthcare costs. Clinical inertia is the lack of treatment intensification in patients not on optimized therapy. Its manifestations may differ from country to country, but it is always present, irrespective of whether the approach to HF medication initiation is sequential or in parallel. Increase of awareness, collaboration of all healthcare professionals, and use of checklists and digital tools are among the measures we can apply to tackle clinical inertia.

Did you know that 70% to 75% of businesses today don't know that they're not supposed to be using consumer services such as Pandora or Spotify to play music in their business establishments? That's over four million businesses in the United States alone. Having a license from just ASCAP, BMI, GMR or SESAC will not cover all the songs on their playlists. There has to be a more inclusive and overall encompassing way to go about ensuring that the music you're playing in your restaurant or store is legally covered. Artists, along with rights holders of music are leaving 5 to 10 times of what they would earn in a traditional streaming service by not ensuring that they're getting paid for their music being played in a commercial environment. There has to be a way to educate not only the businesses, but also the rights owners of the music for such endeavors. Enter Lisa Farris. In the fall and winter of 2021/2022 Laura Cahill taught screenwriting to 8 young acting students from Kyiv on Zoom in English. Their last class was February 6th, 2022. The war started 18 days later. Most of the students fled their homes. Laura reunited with her students and started teaching them playwriting. "Journal or record your spiritual experiences and surround yourself with peers who will uplift you" is Logan Shulz's advice for gaining a testimony. Logan recently graduated high school in Maine and is leaving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Stockholm Sweden in July. Logan explains how his parents instilled in him a desire to "discover for himself" the truths of the gospel instead of forcing mandatory church attendance on him. This motivation to gain testimony helped him seek out spiritual experiences and a true love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Logan talks about "flipping the gratitude switch", finding a place of synergy in contention, and the miracles of journaling. His faith and dedication to the Lord's will is truly inspiring!
