In this episode, Phil takes Discord & Rhyme further down the spiral with an album that is a harrowing descent into one man's decaying psyche. If that sounds like a blast, you're in good company with the millions of people who bought Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral in 1994. It's one of the bleakest, most pitch-dark albums to ever achieve massive commercial success, and it still sounds great in 2025, owing to the coherence of Trent Reznor's sonic vision and ingenious production by Flood. Reznor has gone on to become an Oscar-winning soundtrack composer in the decades since this album, but it still stands as one of his signature achievements, and Phil has invited Rich and Mike along to talk about an album that, from top to bottom, sets out to make you hurt. Now doesn't that make you feel better?Cohosts: Phil Maddox, Mike DeFabio, Rich BunnellComplete show notes: https://discordpod.com/listen/159-nine-inch-nails-the-downward-spiral-1994Discord & Rhyme's merch store: http://tee.pub/lic/discordpodSupport the podcast! https://www.patreon.com/discordpod

Frankie Val, Zak “RedPill78” Paine, and Adel Zero reunite for a high-energy episode of Taking It Back, shredding through the latest political absurdities with their signature blend of wit, fire, and unapologetic commentary. The crew takes aim at the left's baffling glorification of violent criminals like MS-13's Kilmar Abrego Garcia, mocking the media spin and marveling at the America First movement's meme-making prowess. They dive deep into the Democrats' addiction to opposing Trump, even when it means endorsing human traffickers and chaos on the border. From comparing liberal dysfunction to addiction cycles, to mocking the desperate messaging flops of the DNC, this episode lays bare the collapse of a party that's lost the plot. They touch on Elon Musk stepping back from DOGE, the strategic timing of justice before the midterms, and how cultural wins, from food dye bans to 9/11 truth cracks in the Overton window, signal a shift. The guys also reflect on the psychological warfare demoralizing the base, emphasizing the need for strategic wins, narrative control, and unity on the right. It's a 360° dissection of political theater, elite detachment, and how to reclaim momentum, with some spicy banter and camera filter tips on the side.

When testifying at his trial, Teddy Kyle Smith said he thought he was shooting Enukins in self-defense when he fired his rifle at Chuck and Paul Buckel. Few believed him, but his testimony highlighted the inequalities of jury selection in rural Alaska. Sources My primary source for this article was the Audible Original production of Midnight Son by James Dommek Jr. I highly recommend this three-hour audiobook. This week we're talking about probably the most consequential album in Nine Inch Nails' history. The Downward Spiral was a monumental success, widely considered to be a masterpiece. The Fragile was largely panned as being too bloated and self-indulgent (even if it is their best album imo). After that Trent Reznor took a full 6 years to produce an album and it needed to be a hit. With Teeth is a sharp, focused, lean product compared to The Fragile, and because of that was a massive success spawning many of their biggest hits. If you're around our age and just a casual listener, most of the NIN songs you know are probably from this album. In the news corner this week we cover a viral tiktok of some white kids being obnoxious during a rap concert. So business as usual.Instagram - @MBFrecordspodAmanda's IG/TikTok/YouTube - @MothraLunaJason's Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/user/FrequencyShift/collection Theme music by SHADE08 x 80root on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bewQPpTnfgg&list=PPSV Hosted by Ausha. In this episode, John and Peter dive into the cracks forming in Western society—failing institutions, rising crime, and a loss of trust in leadership. They examine the energy crisis, the decline of national security, and the unchecked consequences of mass immigration, each part of the ideological shifts driving politics away from reason, and into chaos. Against the backdrop of history, they reflect on the great wars, the temptations of blind idealism, and the perilous trajectory of the present. From crime and drug policies to the shifting global order under a new U.S. presidency, they probe the forces pulling nations apart. Yet, amid the bleak outlook, they touch on the enduring search for meaning—where true hope lies not in fleeting political victories, but in something far deeper and unshakable. Peter Hitchens writes extensively for the press in the UK, he's been a war correspondent, and reported from Moscow towards the end of the USSR's time as a communist country. Peter has written many books, the latest being "A Revolution Betrayed: How Egalitarians Wrecked the British Education System" he is a very sought after commentator in Britain and Beyond.

Suzy Pepper Rollins - Boys in the Back: The Downward Spiral of Boys in School. This is episode 728 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Suzy Pepper Rollins is the author of 3 Books: Learning in the Fast Lane, Teaching in the Fast Lane & Teaching Vulnerable Learners. She has produced her first short documentary entitled "Boys in the Back" in which 4 educators provide insights on the downward spiral of boys in school. Suzy notes - We are in the midst of an urgent national boy crisis. Failing grades, low college admissions, high percent of office referrals. 2/3 of IEP's are boys, 70% of D's & F grades are boys…there are no silver linings in the research. More than ever, boys dislike school and see it as a waste of time. Our focus is Suzy's film - Boys in the Back. Great conversation! So much to think about. Before you go...
